WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- The stockings are hung and the fireplace is lit, as the Obama family gathers to share some Christmas cheer -- with the voters of Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina.

Following the lead of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, the presidential campaign of Sen. Barack Obama plans to start offering some holiday thanks and optimism on the airwaves, rather than the less-festive talk of Social Security, Iraq and health care reform.

Set to start running Friday, the ad shows the four-person family as they sit next to a Christmas tree and cozy fireplace. Obama's two daughters get the closing lines: "Merry Christmas" and "Happy Holidays."

A spokesman for the Illinois Democrat declined to comment on whether the ad was filmed in his home in Chicago's Kenwood neighborhood, or a studio.

BRILLIANT!

What a beautiful family!

From Uganda, a Merry Christmas to you too!

A New Hope is being birthed into our hearts... around the world!

So, is there going to be some made up story about Obama's Christmas ad like there was about Huckabee's?

I got to see the Huckabee ad last night, that "cross" was a bookshelf!!

More made up BS from the media and the pretend "journalists" that make up the Chicago LIBune reporing staff.

Nice add--thanks barackboom is coming

Happy holidays to everyone!!

That's the best holiday campaign ad I've ever seen. There was no attack or swipe at anybody else, there were no hidden images or suggestive backgrounds. It was just a sincere message of holiday cheer. I knew there was a reason i liked Obama so much.

We need a little Obama right this very minute. Enough divisiveness!

A great ad. Very nice.

Certainly beats Hillary trying to be nicer, warmer, friendlier--but do you have ot try to do those things? Souldn't they come naturally.

This commercial is quite real, as opposed to making an effort to be something one actually is not,

Great ad. Both Huckabee and Obama have released sincere ads....Giuliani has embarrassed himself

I can almost picture what Bruce and John D will be righting about this story.

Let's see, it'll contain references to his middle name etc, etc, etc...

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all. p.s. For Christmas I'd like Bush/Cheney impeached and imprisoned!!!

All right, there you have it. Sen. Obama has declared that it is OK to sit in front of a Christmas tree and wish everyone in the country a Merry Christmas. Does this mean he is engaging in religious bigotry, hijacking the use of a Christian holiday for cheap and base political gain? Come on, now, don't try to deny it. Where was the menorah? The Kwanzaa imagery? Or the overt message to pagans and atheists that they are good people, too. I want to hear from all you folks who blasted Huckabee. Tell me why Obama's message is OK. Please.

I believe this rather fresh look and fresh outlook on our country is much needed. Obama has never been into bashing anyone, and that in itself says a lot about his character. A good character speaks volumes.

From Fox News: If you play Obama's Christmas ad backwards, you can see a Muslim crescent and the family says, "Praise Allah"

This is a wonderfull ad. I love especially those two little girls wishing me Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday. It is touching this ad. Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday to you too from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

God bless you Barack Obama.

A warm family setting and a beautiful message.

JB-Listen to the ad again; the message said a lot more than Merry Christmas.
Some people hear(or don't hear) just what they want to hear.
I grant you Huckabee's ad seemed sincere and I have no problem with it.

I do not like the way the Obama's allow their children to be used for political purposes. When he beginned his campaign he had to get Secret Service Protection because of the threats on his life. I think it's a shame that they allow their children on stage and to campaign with them. Shame on them.

Merry Christmas!

Wrong as usual John D.

There are no mistakes in advertising!!! Oldest adage in the marketing business. It was a bookshelf lit and set up to be a cross. Just like Joe Camel was a two genital male/female abomination!!! Before you correct me, you should know a friend of mine designed it.

Nicely done,

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to the Obama's and to you and yours here at
The Swamp.

Media coverage for Obama has been overwhelmingly positive much manufactured by reporters, but fails to inspire, suggested divisiveness in Washington stems from struggle of 1960s. that’s naïve. national crisis when Americans come together, politics has always been a divisive affair. Obama Has Not Won a Tough Contest, his ability to win in a difficult contest is reason for concern. Republicans will eat him alive ask John Kerry, Al Gore, or Michael Dukakis. Obama can't hope for change; you must fight for it. His first opponent, Jim Ryan, pulled out of the contest following the release of details from divorce. Obama has only faced ONE difficult battle for Congress against Rep. Bobby Rush. receiving only 30% and lost. Obama's inexperience hurt him.

His speech opposing Iraq war "I am not opposed to all wars. I'm opposed to dumb wars. War protesters have not been able to count on him, during his ballyhooed speech at the 04 Dem convention; he failed to decry the war, followed form and strongly supported John Kerry. When asked how he would have voted on Iraq resolution, don’t know said Obama. Since arriving in the Senate, Obama and Clinton have had identical votes on Iraq. His health plan, lacks a universal mandate, echoing his conservative peers, insists Social Security is crisis that needs immediate attention, not true, Social Security Trust Fund would run out 2046.

Obama Takes Black Voters for Granted, when a controversy erupted over the Jena Six. Obama chose not to take up the mantle of past civil rights leaders by not joining the Jena Six protest, Jesse Jackson (Obama supporter) said he's acting like he's white. Was a unique moment for Obama to show support for the black community, but didnt. Now he must explain to Democratic voters why he doesn't want to continue the fights of the 1960s -- included battles over civil rights, the antiwar movement, expansion of Social Security and expanding health care (Medicare). This is not the time for obama

Did Obama say "ourselfs" instead of the Standard English "ourselves"? Are you people literate?

Geographically Challenged Dumb Dumb Little Johnnie D, "the Joseph Stalin of Streamwood", you certainly are the expert on "pretend journalists".

I used to be able to tell the difference between the HRC posters and the Republican posters on this blog. That isn't possible anymore... perhaps because there really Isn't any difference. They are both equally terrified of losing their power and control over the American Public to a candidate who is Honest with the people... ya' Think? Barack Obama is genuine... he is The Real Deal we've been waiting for, for so long. Merry Christmas Obama Family!!! and Happy Holidays to All!

Very nice,
nice message,
nice family,
but I still think Santa is voting for ...

JOE BIDEN!

Anne:
Thanks for the heads up on the Obama Christmas video.
Outstanding!

So it's all ok for Obama to say Merry Christmas, not a problem, while if a white man like Huchabee says Merry Christmas, there's an uproar. Why? Is there some race problem here? I'm Chinese, and I think all people should be allowed to say Merry Christmas, black or white or yellow, without any problem.

I just want to add though, I personally think Obama is fine and we have his book at home. He's a good inspiration for us immigrants. However, it would be a great irony at this point for US and a laughing matter for the rest of the world to talk about, when US has a president in 2008 whose name is Hussein also, right after toppling Sadam Hussein in Irag and still is at war in Iraq. So we removed one and added one? And then his father is or was a Muslim also. All this just does not carry the best symbolic meanings for US, and will only make US look weird, not a superpower anymore. At this point when US is surrounded by negative opinions in the world, we can't just back down and look weird and funny. We need to look strong. We can't have our commander in chief with that kind of name sending army to Iraq. The image is negative on us. Presidency is not just government office, but a symbol of the country. It's fine for Obama to be vice president and I hold him highly with esteem, but to be the symbol of US might be a bit awkward to say the least for the country. I'm really sorry to think this way but it would surely be viewed in this way by many people outside this country. Sorry about this.

There is something offensive about politicians using religion and religious holidays to get votes. Also, in Obama's case his church celebrates Kwanzaa, and Kwanzaa alone. If you know anything about Kwanzaa, part of it's celebration says you should not also celebrate Christmas.

You shouldn't use religion and you also shouldn't turn your back on your traditions and pretend.
