CHARLES CITY, Iowa – Sen. Barack Obama and Sen. John McCain have won the endorsements of the Boston Globe, an influential newspaper that circulates widely in the first-in-the-nation primary state of New Hampshire.
The newspaper announced the endorsements on its Web site this evening in advance of the Jan. 8 New Hampshire primary.
The editorial board wrote that Obama, an Illinois Democrat, fulfills America's need for "a president with an intuitive sense of the wider world." It said McCain, an Arizona Republican, ''has done more than his share to transcend partisanship and promote an honest discussion of the problems facing the United States.''
The Globe's endorsements come just hours before The Des Moines Register, the largest paper in the first-in-the-nation caucus state of Iowa, is expected to announce its endorsements.
The Globe said Obama's diverse and international life experiences were a plus. "The most sobering challenges that face this country — terrorism, climate change, disease pandemics — are global,'' the board wrote. "America needs a president with an intuitive sense of the wider world, with all its perils and opportunities. Barack Obama has this understanding at his core.''
Noting that Obama, if elected, would be the nation's first post-Baby Boom president, the Globe addressed his relative lack of Washington experience compared to several of his Democratic rivals. ''It is true that all the other Democratic contenders have more conventional resumes, and have spent more time in Washington,'' the board wrote. "But that exposure has tended to give them a sense of government’s constraints. Obama is more open to its possibilities.''
McCain was praised as a straight talker and called an antidote to the "toxic political approach'' of the last two presidential elections.

Obama okay, but McCain I dunnoooo. T'would be an interesting general election campaign. A war hawk and Bush pander against thoughfulness and wisdom.

Both candidates are truthful and would be admired for their integrity! Though McCain is too hawkish and too Bush-like!

McCain has the best chance at winning the general election. No one else in the GOP can compete against a democrat. Giuliani might have a shot but
if McCain can get past the primaries he has the locked in the White house for the GOP. I don't know if primary voters are thinking ahead to November yet because they should be.

"Bravo!" to the "Boston Globe" for recognizing that Senator Obama is our best hope for restoring America's good reputation in the world, and our security here at home. As a nation, we are fortunate indeed that this good and talented man came along at just the right time. Senator Obama was first elected to a major public office more than a decade ago, long before the U.S. Senate was even a gleam in Hillary Clinton's eye. Senator Obama's qualifications and experience leading up to his run for the White House stacks up very well against-- and, in some cases, exceeds-- those of previous candidates who became some of our greatest American presidents. He is ready to lead our nation from Day One.

Empty Suit vs Leadership (I don't a;ways agree with, but leadership nonetheless)

"McCain was praised as a straight talker and called an antidote to the "toxic political approach'' of the last two presidential elections".
John McCrazy quit being a "straight talker" back in 2003 when he hitched his wagon to George W. Bush and his pre-emptive war in Iraq.

This 2007 field has to be the worst ever field of Republican Presidential candidates in history.
Dan Quayle would have looked good in this field. Jeffry Dahmer would have been a solid second-tier candidate.
Republicans looking for a Presidential candidate in 2012 should remember "When you get to the bottom of the barrel, stop digging!"

It is amazing the Boston Globe could endorse Obama just based on his own biography and on his own words. Contrary to people’s perception, Obama went to private school all his life except his years in Indonesia. His grand parents could afford to send him to prestigeous Punahou prep school all the way up to private college. Obama is really smart to portrait himself as somehow coming from the south side of Chicago. The press is treating Obama as some rag to rich miracle simply because his skin color. Because of skin color, no hard questions can be asked at all. He wrote everything down already in his own book, didn't he? If Obama is a white man, can you imagine anyone will pay attention to a first term senator? The republicans, however, won't be so timid because they are being called racist anyway so what they got to loose?
John McCain vs. Obama, really contradictory choice. The eastern liberals really lost their touch, yet again.

What I find telling about the endorsement of Obama is this:
Despite the fact that you have a journalist writing the endorsement, there is absolutely no way to hide the fact that Obama is a lightweight and lacks the experience necessary to run the country. All the Boston Globe were able to highlight was Obama's "intuitive sense of the wider world". And all this because he lived in Indonesia when he was 6 years old. In touting his leadership, they pointed to his position on the nuclear proliferation treaty.
Contrast with McCain's and Hillary's endorsement where they talk about the achievements and the accomplishements of both politicians. If I were Obama, I'd be embarassed by the very thin endorsement.

Ralph Malph,
George Bush, Dick Cheney and company had tons of experience and they've been nothing but a complete disaster not only for this country but for others as well (Iraq).
Without the Bush name, W. would be working the nightshift at 7/11 right now.
Yep, these are desperate times for the desperate Republican Party who see the future and realize that it doesn't include them.
Goodluck Senator Obama, you have my vote!

If the Boston Globe, a newspaper whose Leftist bias makes the DNC Swamp look moderate, thinks McCain is their favorite Republican, that's a good reason for Republicans to look elsewhere.

I have read the statement of the Boston Globe on the endorsement of Senator Barack Obama and like Obama, it's all claims without facts.
What international experience can Obama claim in foreign policy and global perspectives?
The Editorial Board of the Boston Globe are ignorant of the following facts.
"Obama Talks the Talk, But Where’s the Walk?" http://www.atlanticfreepress.com/content/view/3039/81/
FACTS DO NOT LIE
Now compare the facts on Senator Barack Hussein Obama with the following facts on Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Obama is a light weight and if selected will bring down the Democratic Party and large loses in the Senate and Congress. Listen if you want to have a chance to win select someone who is strong.

Boston Globe endorses Obama! HUH!!!
What did he do so far in life??? Noone gets a CEO position in 3 years of experience!!!
If media would be staying out of this , people would have found the right candidate! As Senator Kerry lost, Obama will be the exact same looser!

For the first time in my life time
we have an opportunity to elect a presidential candidate that is solely dedicated to be a president for all the people including every man woman and child irregardless of their race, sex or party affiliation.
God Speed John Mc Cain
