Bush: Congress needs 'to do their job': The Swamp

The Swamp

by Mark Silva

President Bush, accusing Congress of "obstruction'' in its delay of new legislation for terrorism surveillance, and delays in war funding and other spending bills, called on leaders today to finish their work before adjourning for the holidays.

Bush warns that the Defense Department will run dry early in the new year if Congress does not act on supplemental war funding -- and he is demanding it without the strings of timelines for troop withdrawals. Excessive spending bills will meet the same fate, he said: Vetoes.

"Congressional leaders need to do their job,'' Bush said in a statement from the Rose Garden this morning. "If they send me an irresponsible spending bill, I will veto it... The end of the year is nearing fast, and Congress has little to show for it.''

Bush also warns that action is needed to prevent the Alternative Minimum Tax from capturing more middle class taxpayers next year.

"Congress continues to delay action,'' he said. "The longer Congress delays action, the longer Americans will likely wait to get their tax refund checks next year.''

"At a time when many Americans are struggling with home mortgages and health care costs,'' he said, "the last thing they need Congress to stick them with.. is a tax increase.''

Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.), chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, offered this reply to the president today: “A sagging economy has left American families struggling on the homefront while thousands of American troops are risking their lives on the battlefront. This morning, the President called on Congress to approve plans for more the same. The status quo might be acceptable to the President, but this Congress will insist on a new direction.''

Funny, that a "man" that has done nothing to better the US over the past 8 years now ranks on Congress to do their job. Thanks GOP - you gave a real winner in W.

"The longer Congress delays action, the longer Americans will likely wait to get their tax refund checks next year.''

The politics of fear. This may be a new low but then again therre is still one very long year to go.

These liberals have clearly turned the efforts of Surrender in Iraq and destruction of our countries economy as there primary tactics to defeat the republicans.

They have not accomplished one thing of value in 12 months, ( unless you think that the minimum wage increase was of value, I don’t it’s a farce, if they wanted to increase wages they would take a stand against illegal immigration)

These liberal democratic leaders are betraying their countrymen for there own self interests.

Throw them out!

RJ, Bush has done plenty to better America in seven years. Unfortunately, the Demoncratic party is not interested in bettering America, just making it worse.

All year the Demoncrats have had a chance to fix the AMT problem; instead they have whittled their time away with frivolous Henry "Nostrilitis" Waxman investigations. But the Dems want tax increases anyway. That's why the vow to roll back all Bush tax cuts, such as the child deductions and those who were in the 15 percent tax bracket beingt brought down to the 10 percent bracket. And, Charlie Rangel is pushing for a $1 trillion tax increase.
Course, here in corrupt Illinois, we have the Dems pushing for sales tax increases, gas tax increases and other increases that affect the lowest wage earners the most. Pretty darn typical of the Demoncrats.

The job they need to do is start impeachment proceedings against Cheney and Bush.

Johnny D:

Please give us proof that the Democrats would roll back the child deductions.

And Charlie Rangel is pushing for the tax increase to pay for the war that W has pushed off on future generations. You know, the $600 billion bill that will come due sometime in the future?? I guess as long as you conservatives don't see this in the present, it does not exist.

CJ:

How did the Democrats ruin the economy?? This did not happen in the last 12 months - it has been building since the time that the GOP was in charge.

And tell us all the things that Bush has done to improve America in 7 years?? If things are so great, why is the housing market collapsing?? Why are Americans more pessimistic about the future? The only people who aren't are the multi-millionaires who got all the advantages of the tax cuts, and companies like Blackwell that get paid millions of dollars to kill civilians in Iraq.

The Dems have done pretty much everything they have said they would. This do-nothing, self-righteous, fear mongering president has vetoed everything that would have this country headed in a positive direction for the first time since late in '00.

13 months and counting!! Can't come soon enough!!

Cheryl, please tell us whast Bush and Cheney can be impeached for?

I agree with you Cheryl, except they are too late and too weak, I have given up on those Pelosi Wimps.

"...please tell us whast Bush and Cheney can be impeached for?"

If you don't know by now, you're too stupid to educate. As was thankfully dead Rep. Hypocrite.

I have never heard a President wine so much about not getting his way. With the estimates of at least 20% of the money wasted or unaccounted for in Iraq you would think that this CEO president could better pick staff that could better plan and account for our tax payer money. He is inept.

John D.

I'll leave LOTS of other things out of the charges.

Bush, and this administration have left no doubt in anyone's mind that they have authorized the torture of various people. That in an of itself, is a high crime and misdemeanor in the US, and has probably broken MANY treaties that the US has been a signator to.

Comments?

I think that not only should bush and his gang of thugs be impeached.. but ALSO they should also be kicked out of this country and be allowed to return. i cant wait until bush is out of office and all the facts really start surfacing on how crooked this guy and his thugs are. I look forward to watching bush spend some time in prison during the twilight of his life.

And, you Loons continue to deny that only hate flows through your veins and arteries?

Still, not one Loon can state a reason for impeachment. Dogjudge brings up "torture." Even there, that is not an impeachable offense. If any torturing did occur, how is that a high crime and misdemeanor? Also, breaking a treaty with other countries is not a high crime or misdemeanor.

Apparently we did waterboard Kahleid Sheik Mohammed, the real mastermind behind 9/11. He also provided informatin that helped prevent other terrorist acts from occurring. Waterboarding Kahleid or saving thousands of American lives. I'll choose saving Americans.

Bush: Congress needs 'to do their job'

Yep, W. is going to hold his breath until he turns blue if he doesn't get his billions upon unaccounted for billions for his war occupation of choice in Iraq.

The Chimp want's to keep this going until Jan 09 when he can run away back to Crawford, Tx. and leave his self-made mess for the new Democratic President.

http://bushspeaks.com/home.asp?did=142

The misunderstanding here seems to be; Who increased taxes? Was it the person who spent the money, on credit, which has to be paid back, or the person who authors the bill to pay it back?
If the government spends money, it must allocate the funds. If the government spends more than it has to allocate, by borrowing, it has to somehow raise the money to pay off the loans.
My question is how do we pay back what we borrowed if we do not collect it in taxes?

If Bush is so concerned about the AMT why didn't he fix it in his first six years when he had the rubberstamp congress?

It's just another sound byte and a chance to scare people. He could care less.

" If any torturing did occur, how is that a high crime and misdemeanor? "

Torture and conspiracy to commit torture in the US or overseas are illegal under Federal law.

Torture can be punished by the death sentence, conspiracy by life imprisonment.

http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/html/uscode18/usc_sup_01_18_10_I_20_113C.html

Clearly torture and the conspiracy to commit it is a "high crime".

I for one will not bother to watch this circus. It's going to be Bush whining about how everyone else is playing politics and he is the only interested in doing the right thing... change the record, this one is getting old.

What if he gave a press conference and no one came? Do you think he would get it then? Probably not, I'm sure they would fill the room with stooges like FEMA did.

Surrender what?
If you're so worried about "surrender" why don't you crawl out from behind you keyboard and sign up for your beloved cluster@#^ in Iraq?

We've proven that we can OCCUPY a small country like Iraq and nothing else, big deal.

You Wingnuts don't seem to understand that our military is at the breaking point, we can't stay over there at this strength level and babysit forever, plus we can't afford it.

The Republicans in this adminstration were going to invade Iraq and multinational oil companies (Halliburton) were going to receive oil revenues for building infrastructure right from the very beginning, no matter how much they charge and how long they take. It was always about the money for the Republicans and it still is.

We have NO Iraqi military, NONE, only an American one.

Here's a good look at how "swell" the training of the Iraqi military is coming along:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfSwS4OO51w

The corporate profits will go directly to the share-holders (Republican croonies), without having a 'security' expense line in the ledgers. Anybody checking Exxon-Mobile stock?...Mission Accomplished, Wingnuts!

The national debt — the total accumulation of annual budget deficits — is up from $5.7 trillion when President Bush took office in January 2001 and it will top $10 trillion sometime right before or right after he leaves in January 2009.

You're bloody well right Johnny!!!!!!!

"Apparently we did waterboard Kahleid Sheik Mohammed, the real mastermind behind 9/11. He also provided informatin that helped prevent other terrorist acts from occurring. Waterboarding Kahleid or saving thousands of American lives. I'll choose saving Americans.

Another statement based on No Facts whatsoever.

As for charges...

How about lying to congress and obstructing an investigation.

Or War Crimes (yes torture is a crime)

Or authorizing domestic spying.

He took an oath to protect the constitution and he has used it as TP instead.

John D.

I don't need to repeat what AJF has stated.

You don't seem to realize how by posting things such as torture not being a crime tends to marginalize ANY credibility that you might have.

It's great that you think Bush and the Republicans are great, that's your option.

It's quite another thing to blindly support possible criminal action and then state that it's simply partisan tactics.

Please go back and read John Dean's book, "Conservatives Without Conscience". It just MIGHT make you understand how the Germans let the Nazis take over their country.

John D,

Once again you infer that if we object to YOUR incessant need to isolate and vilify the left as being hateful, then it must mean that we completely deny being hateful. NO STYLUS GET A NEW RECORD TO PLAY! When you tell us we're hateful, we're just telling you, you shouldn't be talking!! WE aren't commenting on whether or not we hate. We just don't think you should be the one to pontificate, Castro.

And John D you'd torture anyone in hopes to save American lives. That's the problem. Right now you have the Sheik, and you have promising results from torture. The administration is happy to provide you with an example that proves their case. It would be much more credible for the administration to pull out all the stops and not only provide you with the torture that lead to favorable results but torture that lead to no results. All instances of torture being used and where that lead. Yet I know you are always satisfied with owning up to half the truth. The rest is the left's fault.

Cheryl, please tell us whast Bush and Cheney can be impeached for?

Johnny Doughnuts,

Spying on Americans

Lying to Congress

Waging an uncalled for Pre-emptive War

Torturing Prisoners

Operating Secret Prisons

Ignoring Per-9/11 Warnings
---------
GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS!

Did I miss anything?

John E:

Don't forget Treason for exposing an undercover CIA agent.

To follow up on the remarks from "The Left"... If you are OK with torture then you are OK with other foriegn governments/entities torturing US personnel.

Oh, boy, look at all the finger pointing!

The Democrats!
The Republicans!
Impeach Bush!
Surrender!
OCCUPY a small country!
Bush whining!

I think we had better stop pointing fingers & start addressing that which is eating our country alive. We had better start figuring out how to work together. We better learn how to define "bi-partisan teamwork", and do it fast.

We as a country have BIG problems!!!! Let me give you a few pop word problems that come to mind, that are eating our country alive.

Price fixing.
Cost of living.
Forclosure.
Credit.
Stock jitters.
Recession.
The oil/auto cartel(see price fixing, above).
Health insurance.
Drug pricing (see price fixing, above).
Imports from China.
Loss of jobs to foreign countrys.
American political paralysis.
Political corruption.
Lobbying and special interests (see political corruption, above).
Campagin's that preach smear tactics and not platforms.
Paralysis in our judicial system.
America's standard of living.
MANY,MANY MORE.

But you all just keep pointing fingers. Soon we all will not have a country to bother about.

You know that most of it has been sold to those you send all your money to, because of your NASTY Silverado habit, anyway.

You can easily discredit me. Just point out a word I mispelled, above, and CONTINUE ON! What the heck, its only our country!

I agree with Cheryl and why don't we take it a step further. No only impeach B & C but charge them war crimes and atrocities. We would have done it if another country did what we just did to Iraq. Milosevich and Hussein are no different than Bush and Cheney. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Cheryl, please tell us whast Bush and Cheney can be impeached for?

Be careful what you ask for John D!

1. Violating the United Nations Charter by launching an illegal "War of Aggression" against Iraq without cause, using fraud to sell the war to Congress and the public, misusing government funds to begin bombing without Congressional authorization, and subjecting our military personnel to unnecessary harm, debilitating injuries, and deaths.

2. Violating U.S. and international law by authorizing the torture of thousands of captives, resulting in dozens of deaths, and keeping prisoners hidden from the International Committee of the Red Cross.

3. Violating the Constitution by arbitrarily detaining Americans, legal residents, and non-Americans, without due process, without charge, and without access to counsel.

4. Violating the Geneva Conventions by targeting civilians, journalists, hospitals, and ambulances, and using illegal weapons, including white phosphorous, depleted uranium, and a new type of napalm.

5. Violating U.S. law and the Constitution through widespread wiretapping of the phone calls and emails of Americans without a warrant.

6. Violating the Constitution by using "signing statements" to defy hundreds of laws passed by Congress.

7. Violating U.S. and state law by obstructing honest elections in 2000, 2002, 2004, and 2006.

8. Violating U.S. law by using paid propaganda and disinformation, selectively and misleadingly leaking classified information, and exposing the identity of a covert CIA operative working on sensitive WMD proliferation for political retribution.

9. Subverting the Constitution and abusing Presidential power by asserting a "Unitary Executive Theory" giving unlimited powers to the President, by obstructing efforts by Congress and the Courts to review and restrict Presidential actions, and by promoting and signing legislation negating the Bill of Rights and the Writ of Habeas Corpus.

10. Gross negligence in failing to assist New Orleans residents after Hurricane Katrina, in ignoring urgent warnings of an Al Qaeda attack prior to Sept. 11, 2001, and in increasing air pollution causing global warming.

Forget anything else Bush wants congress to do. They need to get on the international economy and monitary stick. When, in the history of the U.S.A., was the American dollar ever lower than the Canadian dollar--as it is currently in the Cheney/Bush admin? And look at our dollar in relation to the pound and euro. We are in extremely deep doo-doo folks. Cheney and Bush have ruined America. We all need to fly our American flags upside down--right now. It would be a way to tell the world that we are Americans in distress, and that we are just trying to survive this egomaniacal administration. And Bush is now playing with mortgages--do any of us trust another Bush with a savings and loan issue?

If it means getting control of the country back, I'm certainly willing to wait for MY refund.
