The Swamp

by Frank James

Not to be outdone by the other candidates with their video Christmas cards, Sen. Hillary Clinton's campaign is offering hers up.

While the ads from Sen. Barack Obama and Mike Huckabee softpedal the whole campaigning thing, Clinton pushes the campaign pedal to the metal. The ad purportedly shows her wrapping gifts which just happened to be labeled “Universal Health Care,” “Energy Independence,” and “Bringing Our Troops Home.” (Who knew such good things would come in such small packages?")

While Obama and Huckabee declared a unilateral Christmas truce, Clinton just keeps going, Gen. George Patton-like, towards the target. The ad will no doubt give her fans more to like and her critics more to hate.

I don't know if I like her or I hate her. I can say that I like and hate the ad. One - it's creative (come on). Two - I don't know how I feel about keeping the mojo "going" even into the holiday's. I like the ambition, but I'm to over powered by the ambition....Okay so that's Huck, Obama, Hil....what about Lady Rudy? Will she be gracing us with a greeting. Preferably with a patriotic theme...maybe some guns hung around the Christmas tree. McCain a greeting from the hood passing out bullet proof vests to the children. Grand Pa Fred...Edward's greetings from McDonald's.

On one level these Christma's ads (not the ones I made up) aren't even all that memorable. On another level they are interesting because they have to take a non-political context and differentiate themselves from each other. So yeah you get a little bit of suggestive and a little bit of subliminal. A little bit more of how these candidates want to be perceived. It's innocent but interesting.

So what?

Now she's evil because she's running ads about what she will do for the country. And the Swamp has the nerve to contend it's not biased against Hillary.

If she ran the same kinds of ad as Obama and Huckabee you'd be accusing her of following Obama's lead.

I think this ad is brilliant; it is simple, well-done, not too overbearing and pitched just right. You go Hillary.

"OH GREAT GOP REPUBLICAN EVANGELICALS AND CHRISTIANS WITH YOUR IMMIGRATION STAFF PLEASE LET OUR PEOPLE GO"

MERRY CHRISTMAS, LETS ALL CELEBRATE THE LIFE OF CHRIST.

OH GREAT EVANGELICALS, CHRISTIANS AND PHAMACEUTICAL COMPANIES PLEASE LET RUDOLPH NOSE SHINNING SO BRIGHT THROUGH THE NIGHT DELIVER MEDICINE TO MY GRANDMOTHER FOR LESS THAN 300.00 A MONTH.

OH GREAT EVANGELICALS, CHRISTIANS, PLEASE SHOW CIVILITY WHILE PROFILING MEXICAN AMERICANS DOWN THE STREET.

OH GREAT GOP PLEASE CONTINUE TO CIRCUMVENT ALL CONSTITUTIONAL LAW SO THAT INDIGNANT IDIOTS IN AMERICA FEEL ME WHEN I SAY,
I DO NOT WANT THE SECRETARY OF HOMELAND SECURITY TO (strike "Attorney General, Secretary of Agriculture, Secretary of State, Secretary of Treasurer, Commissioner of Immigration and Naturalization," and insert "Secretary of Homeland Security";and...

OH GREAT SENATOR CLINTON PLEASE FILLIBUSTER THE HOMELAND SECURITY UNTIL YOU ARE IN OFFICE SO THAT WE CAN GET RID OF IT.

15 BILLION DOLLAR JOKE
87 BILLION DOLLAR JOKE

NOW THAT'S A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HOPEFULLY A GOD FILLING NEW YEAR.

Hey!

No more posts on Iraq? Oh, I forgot, there's only good news....Swamp can't be posting that news.It might hurt Obama's dovish chances.

Paulo

Go, Hillary! Bury the Islamic Obama!

Lala get a clue.

The ad is rubbish, because Hillary's lofty promises (like those of all politicians) are undeliverable. period.

If she is elected, it will mean 24 years of either a Bush or a Clinton in the White House-surely we can do better.

Plus she probably doesn't even wrap her own gifts-

Hey Moron,

Here's the "good news on Iraq that you were asking about:

GALLUP POLL = Iraq still sucks:

In spite of what the Wingnut (Fox Noise Channel, Rush etc) punditocracy would have you believe, American opinions on almost all aspects of the Iraq situation have remained largely unchanged. There has been some moderating improvement in attitudes, but the shifts are very small, and nowhere near what has been advertised. And, interestingly, most shifts appear to be in the Republican-leaning independents, who have a natural tendency to cluelessness.

-Who will do a better job with Iraq?

"Thinking now about the political parties: Do you think the Republican Party or the Democratic Party would do a better job of dealing with each of the following issues and problems? How about the situation in Iraq?"

11/30-12/2 Results:

Republicans - 38%
Democrats - 48%

-Was the war a mistake?

"In view of the developments since we first sent our troops to Iraq, do you think the United States made a mistake in sending troops to Iraq, or not?"

War a mistake - 58%
War not a mistake - 39%

-Is "the surge" working?

"Based on what you have heard or read about the surge of U.S. troops in Iraq that began earlier this year, do you think the increase in the number of U.S. troops in Iraq is making the situation there better, not making much difference, or is it making the situation there worse?"

Better - 40%
Not Much Difference - 39%
Worse - 20%

-How is the US doing in Iraq?

"In general, how would you say things are going for the U.S. in Iraq: very well, moderately well, moderately badly, or very badly?"

Very Well - 8%
Moderately Well - 35%
Moderately Badly - 43%
Very Badly - 21%

-Will the US "win" in Iraq? (whatever that means).

"Which comes closer to your view about the war in Iraq? You think the U.S. will definitely win the war in Iraq. You think the U.S. will probably win the war in Iraq. You think the U.S. can win the war in Iraq, but you don't think it will win. OR, You do not think the U.S. can win the war in Iraq."

Definitely Win - 15%
Probably Win - 22%
Can Win,But Won't - 20%
Cannot Win - 37%

-How long do we stay in Iraq?

"If you had to choose, which do you think is better for the U.S.: to keep a significant number of troops in Iraq until the situation there gets better, even if that takes many years, or to set a timetable for removing troops from Iraq and to stick to that timetable regardless of what is going on in Iraq at the time?"

Stay Until Situation Gets Better: 38%

Stick to a Withdrawal Timetable: 59%

- How much confidence do you have in the current Iraqi government?

"How much confidence do you have in the Iraqi government to meet the goals the United States has laid out for Iraq: a great deal, a fair amount, not much, or none at all"

A Great Deal - 2%
A Fair Amount - 30%
Not Much - 42%
None at All - 24%

There it is, despite recent rightwing spin most Americans realize that Iraq is and has been a great big clusterfreak, thanks again Republicans!

Iraq critics speak (justifiably) of the never-ending war.

Now we have a never-ending presidential campaign.

This is a great Christmas greeting. It brought a smile to my face. She is running this campaign with grace, humor, and a lot of guts. Rock on, Mrs. Clinton!

Please shoot me now....

I like the previous episode where Sandy Burglar climbs down the chimney, quietly tip toes into the children's rooms, and stuffs the children's piggy banks in his pants in order to pay for all these wonderful gifts.

It Christmas time promise them everything to get their votes.
Hillary, it is too late.
Obama is true change and Christmas Future.
Hillary is Christmas Past

the truth is, this is by far the most creative of all of the holday-themed advertisements. proof yet again, that our girl Hillary is just a step ahead of everyone else.

Paulo,

Any reduction of violence in the Crescent is good. I am happy for the troops and the Iraqis.

But there is a long way to go to any kind of pull out, a disaster looms around every corner, literally.

Let's see where we are in a year before we declare Mission Accomplished again.

JMO, but the current improvement does not justify the initial rush to war with Iraq.

Christmas!? Christmas??!

Haven't you been doing your part for the war on terror by going to the mall?

The tear-down has already started of the Xmas stuff, and Valentine's landfill crap is already taking over.

Thrillary is so yesterday by Feb 14 standards.

Thrillary is so next week yesterday! Hasn't she been to the mall? The Xmas stuff is already being torn down and replaced with Valentine's day landfill crap!

Catch up America; Christmas is already over.

Hillary's playing the Grinch Who Stole Christmas. She'd do a whole lot better with some messages of peace and good will. Of course, it would all be phony, but what else is new? By the way, great editorial cartoon in today's Tribune with Hillary caught up in the Clinton Smear Machine and Bill walking away.

Great ad Hillary. U go girl. smash em. get em. get your intelligent ass into the White House. Plz win in Iowa, just so that all this crap is OVER.
Hill 08!!!!

So now we will be treated to the soft gracious side of Hillary. I can still remember the treatment General Petraeus got from the gracious Hillary during the recent Senate hearing. General Petraeus, a great leader having to take guff from a phony Hillary. My blood boils at the very thought of this confrontation.

Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii to Barack Hussein Obama, Sr., a black MUSLIM from Nyangoma-Kogel, Kenya and Ann Dunham, a white ATHIEST from Wichita, Kansas. his parents divorced, father returned to Kenya, mother married Lolo Soetoro, a RADICAL Muslim from Indonesia. Obama attended a MUSLIM school in Jakarta. He takes great care to conceal the fact that he is a Muslim. He is quick to point out that, "He was once a Muslim, but that he also attended Catholic school." Obama's political handlers are attempting to make it appear that he is no longer Muslim. Obama attended a Wahabi school in Jakarta . Wahabism is the RADICAL teaching that is followed by the Muslim terrorists who are now waging Jihad against the western world. Since it is politically expedient to be a CHRISTIAN when seeking major public office in the United States, Barack Hussein Obama has joined the United Church of Christ in an attempt to downplay his Muslim background.

Recently free ride for Obama from political press and it feels besieged it has to bat away incessant questions with Obama's significant shifts/ flip flopping on issues such as Patriot Act, Defense of Marriage Act, Fast Track trade authority and benefits for same-sex couples. Given how little experience, campaign doesnt want any focus on his record, clearly raise questions about his electability and serves reminder about how little the public knows about his positions. Illinois chapter of the National Organization for Women, Obama said he would vote to repeal the Patriot Act. In 06 Obama voted for the redrafted version of the Patriot Act that made only minor changes. On Defense of Marriage Act Obama answered No, to the question: "Do you support repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act. On Fast Track authority, which requires Congress to vote yes or no and without amendments on pending trade deals, Obama opposes Fast Track authority. Benefits for same-sex couples, Obama said he would need to evaluate the fiscal impact before extending Social Security benefits to same-sex couples. Obama is involved in a suspicious real estate deal with an indicted political fundraiser, Antoin Tony Rezko. Obama also linked to an alleged influence peddling scandal and was nabbed conducting campaign business in his Senate office, a violation of federal law. In addition three political aides on Sen. Barack Obama’s payroll are registered lobbyists for dozens of corporations, including Wal-Mart, British Petroleum and Lockheed Martin, while they received payments from his campaign, according to public documents. The Oprah Winfrey endorsement might have generated a lot of press for Barack Obama, but not a lot of impress, particularly among younger women, a poll released Wednesday shows.

A Lifetime/Zogby poll of women shows that of those 18 to 29, almost a third said they were less likely to support the Illinois senator because of the Oprah support. Older women, over 65, also showed they were ruffled by Ms. Winfrey stepping "out of her pew," as the daytime diva herself described it. About 17 percent of older women said the endorsement made them less likely to support Mr. Obama. Barack Obama was faced with a difficult vote in the Illinois legislature — to support a bill that would let some juveniles

Oh, doesn't she look so presidential? Oooooo, and she's giving us such nice gifts! How delightful!! Now which box has the switchblade in it for my opponents? If she doen't make it to the White House, I think Hollywood is in her future, or maybe a Martha Stewart type show on homemaking tips.

Gerald,

because you write it, doesn't make it so.

one can praise clinton, edwards, bidden, or whoever else without stooping to such things as spreading lies about other candidates.

obama is not a muslim. i hope you're not a clinton worker, as we've seen 2 of them fired / resigned in the last few weeks for stating the same things.

always be informed:

Paulo, Please go to Iraq and take a picture of youself standing next to the toppled Saddam statue in Baghdad. You can block off your face but send it back to us along with a picture of you returning safely to the US. Baghdad is not safe until you do this.

I'm mad at Oprah she needs to stick to doing her talk show & selling book & leave the politic alone. She trying to sell Obama ASK YOUR SELF WHY. SHE THINKS MONEY CAN BUY ANYTHING. Even the president candidate .

Hillary Clinton has produced the most nauseating campaign commercial I've seen so far from any of the Democratic candidates.

In the spot, Clinton is wrapping gifts and attaching cards to each of them. One card says "Universal Health Care." One says "Alternative Energy." Another says "Bring Troops Home." Yet another says "Middle Class Tax Breaks." At the end, Hillary acts (keyword: "acts") a little flustered, saying to herself, "where did I put universal pre-K?" "Ah! There it is!" she exclaims awkwardly.

Is this supposed to be inspiring? How exactly do political gifts, a.k.a. payoffs or bribes, appeal to the better nature of our nation? A leader inspires people to work together toward common goals and objectives.

In contrast, this television advertisement amounts to crude, low brow pandering at its worst. Bah humbug, Hillary!

Oh good Universal Health Care. Now we can have hospitals like the ones in Cuba. And not like the private ones for wealthy like Moore filmed but ones with people dying with flies on them. But she made sure it covers illegals while they are cutting out some of the help Vets get.
And the guy that was supposed to be hyping Hillary thinks he can help by saying Bill has had more black women than Obama. I guess he ran out of young interns that he could convince them he was in love with them.

She's not evil because of her ad. she is evil because she and Pelosi are part of stealing the money that was for the fence. She's evil because she wants amnesty and the North American Union.

Oh yes Islamists treat their women so well. I know they would just love to negotiate with Hillary.

Aren't any of you people who are praising Hillary worried about amnesty and open borders or what it will do to America?

When Bill was running he and Hillary were Oprah's darlings. But let a black man run and she is right there. She is a reverse racist
