DES MOINES--In the race for celebrity endorsements, where does Kevin Bacon -- who supposedly is just a few degrees of separation from every human on the planet -- fit in the grand scheme?
Right next to Democrat John Edwards, for starters, which is where he is set to appear to offer his endorsement this week.
But first, Edwards unveiled the support of actor Tim Robbins, who traveled with him around Iowa offering praise for his favorite Democratic presidential candidate -- and some fairly harsh praise for the mainstream media.
The press is missing the story in its political coverage these days, the "Shawshank Redemption" and "Bob Roberts" star said.
"What if instead of 24-7 coverage of the most recent pop star's fall from grace," he asked one audience, "we would see 24-7 reporting of veterans returning from Iraq? How do they feel about occupying a country and being caught in a crossfire of a civil war?"
There's too much gossip and not enough information, Robbins said.
Fair? Maybe. We'll ask Kevin Bacon when he gets here.

Comments
Robbins is right. The media have let America down, Big- Time.
Cororate America runs the media, and works against people like John Edwards, who attampt to advocate for the American people.
Corporate interests are what we are fed in the media, and people are distracted from thinking about their own interests.
That is the way the media keeps power.

Edwards is against big business, lobbyists etc, but how can he get his ideas THROUGH Congress when lobbyists etc still control it? What's his plan for circumventing their continuing influence on Congresspeople?
Where's the proof Edwards can put his ideas into actions? I can't think of a single issue Edwards has spearheaded or led through all the political machinations to success. He never even held any office, to include PTA, before his relatively easy win against NC's Forbes-dubbed "Senator For Sale" whereupon he soon abandoned his constituents and senatorial duties to campaign for himself, and then, after losing, has done nothing of significance for his own state, let alone national level.
Teddy Roosevelt (a Republican) might be the last person to make any significant dent in the corporate control structure. Yet he is notably absent from list of 'populists.' Doesn't that tell us something? Wasn't Teddy R an insider--someone who knew how to play the game, and had enough knowledge and influence to change it? Edwards has none of that.
We should elect people not just for their passion and ideas, but also for experience and references. As a North Carolinian and Independent, I supported Edwards the first time, but cannot give him a good reference this time.

wow Oscar,
Your post sounds just like.......John Edwards.
You ever think that most people don't like or buy into Edwards constant class envy and warfare?
It's easy to see.
Apparently you bought right into it as evidenced by your post.

nice to see a little celebrity endorsement-another myth, Hollywood is liberal-if they were really liberal they would be rolling out the red carpet for Edwards-their absence shows that Hollywood is corporate and is supporting the pro-corporate candidates-this means they are voting against the interests of average Americans-they want your money for their work, buit they don't care if YOU have a good job or anything else.
