The Swamp

by James Oliphant

The Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday made good on an earlier threat and voted to hold former White House official Karl Rove and the president's chief of staff, Joshua Bolten, in contempt of Congress.

The 12-7 vote came after the committee’s chairman, Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), ruled two weeks ago that Rove and Bolten had failed to comply with subpoenas issued by the committee in connection with its probe of this spring’s U.S. attorney controversy. Neither ever appeared to testify before the committee nor did they respond to document requests.

The vote wasn’t strictly along party lines. Republican Sens. Arlen Specter (Pa.) and Charles Grassley (Iowa) joined Leahy and the other nine Democrats on the committee in approving a contempt resolution, which will now be taken up by the full Senate.

“This is not a step I have wanted to take,” Leahy said at the committee’s executive business meeting this morning. The resolution lays the blame for the standoff between the committee and the White House at the feet of the president’s top lawyer, Fred Fielding.

Even if the Senate goes ahead and approves the resolution, you’ll want to hold off on printing your FREE KARL ROVE t-shirt. (Although you might want to go ahead and register the domain name.)

That’s because all a Senate vote does is refer the matter to the U.S. attorney in Washington, D.C. His name is Jeffrey Taylor. And his last job before this one was as a senior adviser to former Atty. Gen. Alberto Gonzales, whose machinations involving the eight fired U.S. attorneys started this whole business in the first place. Who says Washington is an irony-free zone?

Timely considering all the talk this week about the AG's office being in the most politicized ever.

America, ya ever get the feeling you've been ripped off???

Now what? Now Rove and Bolten ignore them, the White House says the Senate has no legal validity in making the charge, and the Senate backs down. What else? Do you REALLY expect anything to come of this?

Stonewalling to the end. These jokers are bigger criminals than the Nixon gang.

Justice moves slowly in DC.
We probably will not see real justice, until George W. Bush is out of there.

Rove and Bolten in contempt of Congress. According to polls, they're in good company. With the Gallup poll showing only 22 percent of the people approve of Congress, that means Rove and Bolten are among 249.6 million people who do not think much of Congress (78% of 320 million). Count me in, too.

John Lydon, I would say the Justice Dept. under Clintoon and Rambo Reno was more politicized.

Anyway, another witch hunt by the worst Congress in U.S. history.

But keep it up Dems. All you're doing is helping the GOP for 2008!

The Senate Judiciary Committee is going whippy, dippy do as RINOS Arlen Specter and Charles Grassley join screwball Senator Depends Leahy on his ego trip to crucify Karl Rove and Josh Bolten two honorable Americans which is more than can be said about Specter or Grassly.
This is sad because in the 80's Leaky Leahy leaked classified information to the Press. He hates America first.Just like Specter and Leahy.
The Washington D.C. prosecutor won't do anything so these nut cases are going to be fuming like only liberal Jackasses and the RINOS can do. Jerry White, Springfield,

"THIS IS WHY THE MITCHELL REPORT MEANS NOTHING"

BIG DEAL SENATOR. BIG DEAL, SO YOU RENDERED A MAN FOR OVER A YEAR IN PRISON AND YOU GOT WHAT!

TERRY SCHIAVO PART II. CONGRESS MUST CONVENE ON THIS IMMEDIATELY.

MEANWHILE CHERTOFF IS TELLING CONGRESS TO TURN DOWN ITS 'ORGANIZATIONAL CHURN' AND CONSOLIDATE IT'S OVERSIGHT BECAUSE THINGS LIKE THIS HAPPEN, AND PRESIDENT BUSH IS TIRED OF YOU INVESTIGATING HIS CULTURE OF CORRUPTION.

BASEBALL PLAYERS ARE ON STEROIDS. I HOPE IT'S NOT FOR RESPITORY REASON, HOPEFULLY THEY DID NOT TAKE PREDNISONE FOR ASTHMA.

OH WHERE OH WHERE HAS KARL GONE. LOUSIANA, MISSISSIPPI, TENNESSEEE, FLORIDA. JUST HANGING OUT WITH SARA, OR MONICA. MAYBE HIM AND ALBERTO ARE DELETING AND DELETING EMAILS FROM THE PRESIDENTIAL RECORDS FROM HOME.

MAYBE SENATOR MITCHELL NEEDS TO TAKE ON THE KARL ROVE HARRIET MIERS CONTEMPT OF CONGRESS AND HAVE A PRESS CONFERENCE ABOUT THAT.

NO BUSH/CHENEY CRIMES ARE UNDER PRESIDENTIAL EXECUTIVE KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT DANA. YOU TALK TO MUCH EXECUTIVE ORDER.

IT'S STILL AN ON GOING CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION. SO CONGRESS, SAVE THE ORGANIZATIONAL CHURN AND LET BYGONES BE BYGONES.

I hated Janet Reno, so I can agree with you on that.

I would not agree with the rest of your comment. This administration has appointed more unqualified people than any in my life time. Not to mention the botched job they did at staffing the CPA (coalition provisional authority).

Now John having read your comments I know your not very open minded when it comes to the fact that republicans can be as incompetent as democrats. I like my politicians to find the best and the brightest. This President has not done that. That is not Bill Clintons fault. Put the blame where it belongs. Ever get the feeling you've been ripped off???

Example of incompetent Bush staffing at the CPA.

Pittsburgh, Pa.: Why didn't Bremer resist, more than he apparently did, when incompetent people were dumped on him? Did he know? Did he care?

Rajiv Chandrasekaran: Bremer was among those most frustrated with the recruitment process. Soon after Bremer arrived in Baghdad in May 2003, he concluded that his occupation administration needed hundreds more Americans with expertise in economic development, health care, education and other countless other specialties required to run a nation. When his repeated pleas to the White House for skilled professionals went unheeded, he dispatched one of his top aides to Washington to recruit staff for the CPA.

The aide, Reuben Jeffrey III, a former Goldman Sachs banker, approached the problem like a businessman would: He hired two executive headhunters to scour the government and the private sector for talent. They agreed to report within days to the CPA's Washington office, located in the Pentagon. But on headhunters' first week on the job, O'Beirne's staff issued them new orders: Clean out your desks and leave the building by the end of the day. The recruitment of people to work for the CPA, the staffers said, was O'Beirne's sole domain.

Although Jeffrey interceded and managed to keep them in the building, it was clear he had lost the turf war. The headhunters were told their roles were restricted to helping interview and process applicants who had already been screened by O'Beirne's staff.

Don't worry you conservative crybabys. Bush will grant them a pardons & let these traitors off scoff-free.

This would never happen under Ron Paul. There would never be the chance for corrupt officials to get involved in things the government has no business to get involved with in the first place.
This is what happens when lackies take orders from numbskulls. God I love the Three Stooges.

John Lydon, I would say the Justice Dept. under Clintoon and Rambo Reno was more politicized.

Of course you would. Everyone on the Swamp predicted it. We'd say you're completely out of touch with reality. Of course, the most politicized Justice Department in the history of the Universe was under the worst President in the history of the Universe - Richard Nixon. And how do vice president bu$h's numbers compare to his? Yeah, I thought so.

John D-

Why do you hate Federal agents?

You continually attack Reno for Waco. The Branch Dividians opened fire and killed Federal agents serving a search warrant.

Why do you side with the Terrorists? Why do you want ATF agents killed? Why are you against enforceing the law?

The contemptuous 'Turd Blossom' (Bush's name, not mine, Bruce.) is held contemptuous? No way! He is a uniter, not a divider!

Funny Turd Blossom anecdote;

There was an admiring story about 'Pooter Flower' (Bruce! I DID make that one up!!) on the MSM a few years ago singing the praise of his 'intelligence'.

The video that accompanied the talk talk showed him trying to have a cell phone conversation just after stepping off 'Marine One'. He was standing next to the idling turbo-fan engines. He had a finger in one ear and was screaming into the unfortunate device. Yes, even inanimate objects suffer under 'Manure Magnolia' . (Bruce!! Yet another variation! I am on fire, kids!)

Jerry White, the biggest nut case I see here is you.
How is it possible you cannot see the efforts of this administration to undermine our Constitution as well as the laws of this country in order to expand power for bush. Part of the efforts were the politizating of the Justice Department which reflects in the Federal Attorney scandal. This is what is all about.

Jerry, after you finish your "Dick and Jane" readers, please try to understant what you are posting about

"How is it possible you cannot see the efforts of this administration to undermine our Constitution as well as the laws of this country "

Because most normal people don't have BDS and buy into left wing spin and folklore.

Sorry to break it to you.

"Now what? Now Rove and Bolten ignore them, the White House says the Senate has no legal validity in making the charge, and the Senate backs down. What else? Do you REALLY expect anything to come of this?"

There a rational motto to live by - "unless you make everyone aware of your desires and a considerable effort yourself... you certainly won't get what you want unless you try and ask for what you want" !

Rove , Bolton and most of the Bush Administration should be held in contempt of court and due process of law. Shame on the unlawful Justice Dept for trashing the U.S. Constitution and leading by example that being a reprobate is somehow good and justified! ... and this is a realistic snapshot of "Greedy and unlawful Republicans"... no wonder there is a genuine class struggle at war with basic survival of the middle class here within America.
