Media mogul Bob Johnson apologized to Sen. Barack Obama today for his recent public remarks about the senator, which many took as a reference to Obama's drug use as a teenager.

An aide said Obama accepted the apology for the comments, which Johnson made a few days ago while on the campaign trail for Sen. Hillary Clinton, Obama's rival for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Johnson, founder and former head of Black Entertainment Television, was defending the Clinton family's record on issues of concern to African Americans when he referred to behavior Obama disclosed in his memoir "Dreams From My Father."

Johnson's original statement went like this:

"As an African-American, I'm frankly insulted that the Obama campaign would imply that we are so stupid that we would think Bill and Hillary Clinton, who have been deeply and emotionally involved in black issues when Barack Obama was doing something in the neighborhood that -- and I won't say what he was doing, but he said it in his book -- when they have been involved."

On Thursday, though, he apologized personally to Obama. He also explained himself in an interview for CNN's "Situation Room," according to a transcript released by the network.

"Sometimes in campaigns you get carried away in your zeal to support your candidate," Johnson said. "And you say things that are inappropriate and not proper for a campaign that should be based on the issues.

"And that is why I issued this personal apology to Senator Obama, I know Senator Obama. I have a great deal of respect for him. And I'm glad that his campaign has responded and accepted the apology."

It's easy to fall into swift-boat mode after two elections with the slimy little toad, Rove pulling the strings. Dems learned to play the game too, now dialog is dead in this country.

Let's all hug it out!

Bob Johnson(D) should apoligize for his remarks about the former admitted illegal drug user, Barack Obama(D), who's running for President of The United States. Though a true statement, it was un-democratic.
Why can't all you liberals just get along!

"BET founder sorry for remarks about Obama"

It's a little late now Mr. Johnson, you sounded more like Swamp tard Paulo than a wealthy, respected business man. Better luck next time chump.

OBAMA 08!

I know Barack Obama is the best candidate running for President that's why I feel obligated to lie about him and racially smear him. Karl Rove told me to do it because our party (GOP) has become a worldwide flipping joke and I'm a scared little puppy.

OBAMA 08!

Hmmm...that's funny. Billary had told us that their millionaire vacation buddy was not talking about drug use--they said he was referring to Senator Obama's work as a community organizer. So why should he apologize for that?

Yuck! How much slimier will the Clinton campaign get?

Paulo,

Go light up a doobie and find some love, bro. Your hate and bigotry is a real downer.

Jeff,

Not even group hugs (sarky one) are going to help after what Krugman calls "The great unraveling", occurs.

should apoligize for his remarks about the former admitted illegal drug user...
____________________________
Once again, pillow shows us his lack of education, his English illiteracy, and his complete lack of understanding logic. "former admitted"? So he has "unadmitted" drug use? That would make him NOT a drug user based on your definition, and above your quite apparent contempt. But what do you expect from an apocalyptic, World War III-agitating, Orwellian, NRA-genuflecting, wide-stanced, FOX News-humping, fear mongering Bushevik?

In agreement with James R. He's exactly right! Why hasn't anyone in the media pointed out the fact that according to Hillary (during their most recent debate) BJ--aka Bob Johnson (former head of the "respectable" television network which regularly references and glorifies misogynistic imagery and "suggested" drug users--can you say Snoop Dogg??? all day long for minor children to witness) was not talking about drug use when he insulted Mr. Obama. Supposedly, according to her, he was referring to Senator Obama's work as a community organizer. Yeah, right! No one's pointing out her obvious attempts at covering up yet another truth! I'm so over the Clintons....can't wait for Senator Obama to take his rightful place in the Oval Office. Maybe it'll be used for something other than sexual gratification by college co-ed interns, this time!!!!!

Here, here, JoAnn. This is a perfect example of people living in glass houses. I'm surprised the Clintons have the nerve allow any of their cronies to make such "judgements" about ANY other individual. Not this from the man who "didn't inhale", or from a money-grubbing, mega media millionaire who's "concern for the Black community" has never reared it's ugly head anywhere NEAR his network, BET. At least as a community organizer, Barack Obama was moving towards bettering his community. Can you say the same, Mr. Johnson? Let's air some of your dirty laundry and examine some of your youthful mistakes. What? You NEVER made a mistake in your youth? How admirable.

IT IS SOMETIMES SAD TO SEE BLACKS BRINGING DOWN THEIR FELLOW BLACK MAN, I FIND IT SO PATHETIC AND SAD FOR AN EDUCATED MAN TO SPEAK IN THAT MANNER, SHAME ON YOU BIG BOY, SHAME ON YOU

What hypocrisy from the Right! You now have in the Oval Office a " dry drunk" Well, for those of you unfamiliar with the term, "Dry drunk is a slang term used by members and supporters of Alcoholics Anonymous and substance abuse counselors to describe the recovering alcoholic who is no longer drinking, one who is dry, but whose thinking is clouded. Such an individual is said to be dry but not truly sober. Such an individual tends to go to extremes.*

"Dry drunk" traits consist of:

. Exaggerated self-importance and pomposity
. Grandiose behavior
. A rigid, judgmental outlook
. Impatience
. Childish behavior
. Irresponsible behavior
. Irrational rationalization
. Projection
. Overreaction*

In J.D. Hatfield's book, FORTUNATE SON, Bush later explained:

"[A]lcohol began to compete with my energies....I'd lose focus." Although he once said he couldn't remember a day he hadn't had a drink, he added that he didn't believe he was "clinically alcoholic." Even his father, who had known for years that his son had a serious drinking problem, publicly proclaimed: "He was never an alcoholic. It's just he knows he can't hold his liquor."

So here's to ya'll!

...... and it's time for the (black) men and women who have been on the scene for years to stop fighting change, and rest on the fact that they are seeing their labor come to fruition. If not, they will look like old fighters embarrassing themselves in search of glory days.

Roland S. Martin

Can't people ever just keep their mouths shut for a change?

Bob Johnson is a hypocrite! He promotes drugs abuse, violence and the exploitation of women on his 2nd tier network for ratings. BET and Bob should be concerned with the images and music that they promote to our youth. How dare he attack another so that he can in political favor.

Looks like the men in Hillary's life still believe that, 'she'll buy anything' - and she does! She falls for it every time. Not good attributes for a presidential candidate.

I am surprised by Bob Johnson's behavior and choice of words, but given the crowd he is hanging around: Mr. "I didn't inhale", Mr. I did not have sexual relations with that woman", " Let me tell you something, I had nothing to do with this lawsuit and you want to go public with your not being concerned with the mortgage foreclosure crisis", etc. It is no wonder that Bob and those who get to close being to behave just like the Clintons.

And Hillary with, " I am not gone to be a stand by your man baking cookies; then she pretends to suffer humiliation when it gets out that she is standing behind a serial philanderer and only feigns being the suffering wife because it was confirmed what Gennifer Flowers told.

I find it amusing that the Clinton camp makes such a big deal about Obama's drug use. Remember their claim that it wasn't an important issue back when evidence of Bill's drug use came to light. But of course he didn't inhale. (Right, just like he never had sex with "that intern".)

Anyone BUT Clinton in '08!!

Billary's attempt to cover BJ's obvious lie, coupled with their current union busting speeches to the Culinary Workers Union in Nevada (but not to Teachers or SEIU of course), and their attempt, via lawsuit, to disenfranchise voters because the CWU endorsedo Obama, really expose they for the liars they are. I never wanted to believe it. Bill was my boy. No longer. Now he is Bill the Shill.

OBAMA IN 08!!!!!

If one is going to be president...one should fully expect past behaviors--particularly illegal ones--will be brought up. Why is everyone so afraid to hold leaders to basic standards? Why is it off limits to discuss and analyze? Since when is past drug use not an acceptable topic of conversation? We ignored this past behavior in George Bush and look what we have? People need to get off the PC wagon and take a closer look. I'd be saying the same thing if Hillary revealed she is a former drug or alcohol user. While it should be discussed openly, however, I'd like to spend more time focusing on real issues.

African Americans are the only ethnic group that cannot come together as one. Hate and envy rule our lives. We as a people will never move forward in this country. It is sad!

I wish this would die as quickly as it came up. We need to focus on the real issues that will help replace the leader that we have to deal with now.

But the overall point Johnson made was correct.

Despite protests to the contrary, Saint Obama the Uniter has actively sought an opportunity to inject race into the 2008 campaign leading into the South Carolina primaries. He couldn't find it, so they first went with "fairy tale" being racist to describe one of Obama's positions. Hardly racist. Then his campaign picked up on Clinton’s MLK comment and misinterpreted it. He needed to trick African Americans enough to anger them, while distancing himself enough so as not to be obvious to whites, Hispanics and other. He needs to keep in mind, however, that if the race is held out as a reason to vote FOR someone, it must also be a valid reason to vote AGAINST someone. He can't have it both ways. Obama is a major con man. But we already know that here in Illinois. We're still waiting for our lofty dose of "change" he promised us.

So we're pushing Obama's drug use under the rug when it was brought out in full spotlight with Bush? No way, I'd never vote for Obama, he is a crook.

NOBAMA!

Well, the Clintons are using the old tactic of "divide and concore" the Black community and its leaders. I wish the old guard (Black) would just SHUT UP and let Barack set his own course, Please!

DD

WOW! Now you can't even quote from someone's own book? Talk about sticking together!

It is so ironic that we are unable to learn from the example of Bob Johnson.

Here is a man who allowed his passion, his loyalties, his preferences to get the best of him.

He subsequently maligned someone unfairly and with mocking hate.
It is a mistake that I have made, and aren't many of these posts identical in nature?
I think Jesus said a number of fine things about judging others when we stand in judgement ourselves; the greatest irony we commit on ourselves.

Bob Johnson. That BET mess you started years ago in the name of a "Black Net Work" was nothing more then trash then and still is. It was explotation of young black artist and a way for big bucks into your account from trying to make it mass. More minds have been posion by BET then saved by Mr. Obama work or whatever your reference in the community at the time. Get back under your rock and take MJ with you.

Johnson should not have been making innuendos. He should have been direct or kept quiet. Like it or not, illegal drug use is illegal drug use--for all Americans. It is putting yourself above the law. Change the laws--fine. But don't tell me that any candidate is above the law. Does Obama's writing about an illegal act, or admitting to it, make it invisible, or a subject forbidden to be discussed? Why rewrite or edit history? If Obama wrote about drug use as a teen or young adult--then, at that time Obama had disregard for the law. OK. And, didn't he make light of those actions recently by saying something like I DID inhale?--What would have been the point? Obama and Bill Clinton--admitted to drug use. They are both attorneys now, and know it was illegal. Have either of them submitted a bill for legislation to legalize some drugs that are currently illegal? I'm not aware of any.

Obama said he did not want to get into the mechanics of the presidency--that he won't be the one "to make the trains run on time" OBAMA wants to be DON QUIXOTE--the impractical idealist. Bush also did not, and I believe still does not know the mechanics of things. He was too lax--leaving things up to Cheney? Inexperienced people making decisions about high ranking DOJ positions? Brownie? Bremmer? The British government--so he said--the 16 words? That is why things have gone to hell on so many levels in America. Please, no more ineptness. We need someone who passionately desires to know what is going on in, and outside of America, and how things work. Obama is NOT the one for this. (As Bush was never the right one) Obama has only been a senator for two years--and what has he done? I am bothered that he is green--inexperienced. And, look at his votes, and lack of votes. Was he MIA for some important ones? FISA? Votes are the bottom line. Voting "present" in the senate is not helpful there. It takes help away from Americans in the real time of the vote, only to protect the person for some presidential bid later. That seems selfish.

Bob Johnson is nothing more, in my opinion, than another “bougie” house negro who profits off the peddling of filth and ignorance to his people under the masquerade of “black entertainment."

Bob Johnson is nothing more, in my opinion, than another “bougie” house negro who profits off the peddling of filth and ignorance to his people under the masquerade of “black entertainment." What credibility does he really have. It's Black people like him that continue to keep Black people on the plantation.

Racist black voters can trash anyone they please, can't take it when the shoe is on the other foot. However, it's a pleasure seeing the wife of our "first black president" attempting to kiss black butt and them shoving it back in her face. Can you see 4 years of the Obama presidency where white American must watch every word for fear of offending. Every criticism will be considered a racist jab. Meanwhile, he would be tossing in the white towel (oops, sorry)in every foreign policy arena. Wake up America.
