Shortly before meeting today on a stimulus package to bolster the faltering economy, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Republican Leader John Boehner made brief statements to reporters.
As the press conference was breaking up, Boehner took the opportunity to direct what his spokesman says was a good-natured jest toward Democratic Leader Steny Hoyer (and not Pelosi, as an earlier version of this post indicated).
We'll just run the transcript (courtesy of the Federal Document Clearing House):
PELOSI: Good afternoon. Thank you all for coming. You came in to listen in on our session here.I'm very pleased to welcome the Republican leadership of the House to the speaker's office so that we can have a discussion of how we proceed in a bipartisan way on many fronts; particularly right now to put together a stimulus package that, again, has common ground, bipartisan support, one that we can work with the White House on that would be timely, targeted and temporary and that would make a difference immediately in the lives of the American people.
Mr. Leader?
BOEHNER: Madam Speaker, thank you for the invitation, and we're certainly glad to be here.
It's clear that middle-class families in America are facing a squeeze. Their incomes aren't rising, except the cost of the health insurance is going up, the cost of food is going up, cost of energy is going up.
And with a crisis underway in the housing market, I think it's appropriate that Congress respond, and I'm hopeful that we can come together in a bipartisan way to address the needs of the American people.
PELOSI: Thank you all very much.
Thank you, Mr. Leader.
BOEHNER: As soon as they put those cameras away, I'm going to flip you the bird.

Boehner is an idiot.

But remember, Mr Boner, YOU said those American lives are just a "small price to pay" in the big picture......

Of course Bonnie meant it. He is a no class low life.
But it's funny how suddenly he sees the economy clearly. He delivered a real tuff critique of the Bush economic record.
Next thing you know, he will be deficit hawk or something.

BOEHNER: As soon as they put those cameras away, I'm going to flip you the bird.
I bet that won't be the first time he saluted her that way.

"Mr" Speaker? Was this meant to insult her?
Boner needs to put that finger in a place Senator Craig would like to have it.
Any bets that part of the stimulation package Republicans will fight for will be their hard fought for tax cuts for the rich made permanent?
It is odd that Republicans had total control of all 3 branches of our government for 6 years and never concerned themselves about permanently fixing the Alternative Minimum Tax that hurts the middleclass. Guess if they would have fixed it they would no longer have something to hold hostage to blackmail Democrats into allowing them to pass their tax cuts for the rich.
Trickle down, trickle down, when were we supposed to experience this warm effect Republicans talked about when they gave their gift to the rich?

Did he cry? That dude cries more than my 4 year granddaughter.

I think any chance for these politicians to act human is a good thing.
The collapse in the ABS market is no different to the NASDAQ falling 71% under Clinton. Markets get ahead of themselves, and they pullback hard.
My Manhattan condo has tripled in value in the last 6 years. Did I rush out and take out second mortgages? No way.
I realize it's ahead of itself, but I'm still grateful. I'm just not greedy.
People gamed this housing market, and they shouldn't cry when their mortgage rate goes up. They should have gotten the 30 year fixed.

John Boehner is doing a good job. To call him Boner because of similar name is a left wing stupidity trick.
Many of these posts are childish and use stupid satire.
Boehner is a good minority leader much better than Queen Nancy or Dingy Harry Reid. Jerry White, Springfield, IL
