The Swamp

by Glenn Thrush

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Hillary Clinton gave out a major hint this afternoon -- in the form of her weekly schedule -- of the diminished role South Carolina may play in her calculations, given Barack Obama's double-digit lead here.

She spent this morning in Columbia getting a mixed reaction at an MLK Day celebration and she'll attend tonight's debate in Myrtle Beach. Her next event in the state? Thursday, her staff now says. (An earlier version of her schedule indicated she would be returning to the state on Friday)

After the debate, it's wheels-up for Hill Force One. She overnights in DC and heads for California on Tuesday: On Wednesday, she wakes up in New Mexico, stages a rally, followed by a night flight to New Jersey; Wednesday she's in Jersey and NYC for a fundraiser and (we hear) a labor rally. She'll start Thursday in Gotham then head for SC later in the day.

The gaps in her Palmetto State schedule, staffers say, will be filled in by Bill Clinton, who will barnstorm the state on that days his wife is absent, possibly with Chelsea. "There is a Clinton on the ground every day through Saturday," said spokesman Phil Singer.

After Obama's awesome speech yesterday at Martin Luther King's church, Bill Clinton hasn't a hope. If he tries to attack Obama now, he is doing the very thing Obama spoke so inspirationally against. If Bill doesn't attack with his usual misrepresentation of the facts (ie, lies) he hasn't got a leg to stand on either. South Carolina is about integrity. The Clintons don't have it, and they know they can't win. Most likely Bill will try some charm slime, but its too late for that now.

I not so sure that isn't a good idea. This race flap has been fueled and continued more by the supporters than the candidates themselves. I would love to see these supporters of both candidates to stick to the real issues. Most people see this as pure crazy...and the right is lapping it up. Just ask Paulo who has to be one of the most racist people I've ever seen post here..and he is laughing at you fools. You bitch back and forth at each other like children. I don't see any race issue on the right...know why? They wouldn't have a black candidate on their side. Your candidate is one thing, but don't forget what PARTY holds your interests to heart. Grow up..get a life..and deal with the real issues.

I agree. The Clintons are skilled politicians but they have proven incapable of telling the truth. The reason why Obama has such a tremendous following and McCain on the Republican side is you will notice that both men are refreshingly honest in a career where most get ahead by lying. Obama is not just a good candidate he is America's last hope for redemption. Is this a monarchy or a dynasty. With 2 families control of the whitehouse for 20 years Im not all that sure.

Attached is a link to a video of an interview of Barack Obama by the San Francisco Chronicle's editorial board. It is quite long, but allows for indepth, thoughtful answers to pointed questions. The invitation is out to the other presidential candidates to meet with the SF Chronicle's editors. I hope they do.

"Carolina's not on Clinton's mind"

When I initially read this headline I thought it was referring to Bill's new intern.

The problem with liars is that they do not keep their campaign promises.

It is really baffles me how those who do not know the Clintons, except from what they have read online, call them names.

The Clintons are NOT CHEATS
The Clintons are NOT LIARS.

Hillary Clinton has not given up South Carolina to Barack Obama.

Inspirational speeches do not win elections, American voters want to see solutions to their problems in practical terms and not fairy tales.

A shocking result awaits Barack Obama in South Carolina.
We are taking the campaign from door to door.

"Life is not a fairy tale."

It kills me that some people just can't let Monica go. Are these people just against sex? are they just against the fidelity issue? With divorce at about 55% and infidelity probably higher ( of course not you ) or the people who say a BJ is perverted. It makes me wonder how many hypocritical men there are out there and how many unsatisfied women.

With divorce at about 55%

Sorry to go off on a tangent, but I cannot stand it when I hear people say that "half of all marriages end in divorce." That is just not true.

The divorce rate is currently between 30 - 40%. The divorce rate peaked in 1981 and has been dropping ever since.

Hopefully she'll skip the rest of the states and just go away once and for all.

When I think of Bill Clinton, I think of a liar and a pervert.

When I think of Hilary, I think of a ugly women who isn't loved by her husband.

When I think of the Clintons, I think of LIARS.

I'm supporting Hillary all the way. However, I respect everyone's right to vote for who he/she thinks is the best candidate. For me, it's Hillary. For others, maybe Obama or Edwards. We make our own minds. I think it is very democratic and progressive for our party to have a female and a African-American candidate in the race. I see it as a very positive sign not divisive at all. I have no wish to defend one over the other. Let the candidates battle it out among themselves. At the end of the day, whoever is the nominee will be the one I'm voting for, no matter it's Clinton, Obama or Edwards (although his chance is getting really slim by the minute).

I worry that news reports about Bill's affairs will sink her in the General Election. This was in the Post and the Daily News!

Clinton seen with new blonde

Mark Coleman In New York

BILL Clinton’s chequered love life became the source of fresh speculation yesterday after he was spotted with yet another blonde.

The former US president is reported to have shared an intimate dinner with Belinda Stronach, a married business woman.

According to reports, Mr Clinton, 56, wined and dined Ms Stronach, 35, the head of an international car parts company, in Toronto.

The pair have apparently struck up a cosy friendship and were caught embracing at the end of the evening.

"Clinton gave her a peck on the cheek before she got into her car," the New York Post reported. Another tabloid, the Daily News, pronounced that the two "had dinner and were seen embracing before they parted".

The papers said that the couple appeared to be fairly close, exchanging fond glances as they walked around the city.

Mr Clinton, who was in Toronto for a party honouring the musician Ronnie Hawkins, who has been diagnosed with cancer, twitched awkwardly with his mobile phone after realising that he and Ms Stronach, who was wearing a black dress and diamond necklace, were being followed by photographers.

The revelations are bound to renew consternation between Mr Clinton and his wife Hillary, to whom he has been married for 26 years.

Four months ago Mr Clinton was linked with another blonde socialite, Lisa Belzberg, 38, who is also a Canadian.

That is a good thing. Obamas race baiting has seemed ot work in SC but it will hurt him in most other states that do not have half of their voters black. I just cant believe that people are stupid enough in SC to really believe that the CLintons are racsist. I guess people really are that stupid. I am not a huge fan of the CLintons but to accuse them of racism is a joke and just shows just how dirty the Obama people really are. He won Iowa with IL voters and now may win SC by calling Hillary and Bill racists. Wow what a diff kind of politics huh? You obama supporters should be proud. But what else would you expect from a Cook County Hack.

Hillary and Bill Clinton are about as honest an any other politicians. Please don't delude yourself into making Obama a hero. They are both formidable and are locked in a tight race and that makes me proud as an American. I hope that it would you too unless you are one of those Obama types who hates to see him have to face a contested election. Just remember nothing that happens now will compare to what the Republicans will dish out. We need whoever wins to be ready. So let's stop whining and start winning! That means you, young people!

I think it's a very good idea for Senator Clinton to campaign in other key states this week. I think she can easily afford to lose South Carolina. I'm in California and most people here that I know personally have already cast their ballots for her, including in my household.

Both Clintons are hugely popular in California, and with a very large and supportive Hispanic population, I think it will go very well for her on February 5.

Thankfully you don't spend much time doing it.

Here...whether you can stand it or not.
The divorce rate in America for first marriage, vs second or third marriage
50% percent of first marriages, 67% of second and 74% of third marriages end in divorce, according to Jennifer Baker of the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology in Springfield, Missouri.”

After Obama's awesome comment about Reagan and "You are likable enough", anyone still think he is genious or smart?

Because of the way voters have been separating Party leaders(read Bush) from their supporters when it comes to blame.....we may see a much stronger Repugnant nominees this year than any Democrat ever envisioned. McCain and Guiliani/Huckabee/Romney are going to be tough to beat. Hillary can't beat them...Obama can. Personally I's like to see an Obama/Edwards ticket but Edwards would have to have a lot of courage to run on the bottom part of the ticket again.

Inspirational speeches do not win elections, but they do win over those who for various reasons vote with their emotions. They will be outnumbered in the end, I believe, but meanwhile they throw a monkey wrench into things. Senator Clinton may lose South Carolina due to some of these haters and immature voters, but she will win the nomination and be our next president. Why? Because people know that she has the intelligence, the experience, and the determination to get things done that the American people are worried about: the war; the economy; our diminished reputation abroad; healthcare; education; the erosion of a middle class; the nuts in the mideast who want to terrorize us and destroy Israel.

Look at her record; look at what she has stood for all these years. Look at how she has worked across party lines as a senator and will do the same as president. To those who claim she is polarizing, what Republican who worked with her in the senate has accused her of this? Those who vilify her are the ones who are polarizing. Besides the irrational Hillary bashers, they consist of those who want to hold on to power or those who are desperately seeking to grab it. The American people are sick of haters and dividers. They want government that works and leaders who know how to make that happen. Senator Clinton is that leader. Vote with your head, not your emotions.

It's a clear sign that the black political leadership has lost its following. This is going to be a fight between white women and blacks for the hearts and minds of "independents" and "Latinos." This could split the party in half and give the Repubs a victory after all.

Bud....I feel like you do. I hate to see the bickering over this when we are all on the same side. I will say, however,
I don't see the party splitting over it. At the end of the day most will see that the alternative ( the right ) offers nothing that we feel important.

I am not an american, but i follow your governmental policy in the last 15 years. I do not understand why people of this country still have their support on the Clintons. What a mess, are you blind to know what happened when they were in power and how they put this country on a shameful scandal that shocked the world. The only thing they wanted is to be in power and to tell the world they can control the american people by their political power. It seems to me they will gonna make it again. Oh, comeon you people wake up, mrs clinton is the worse, if she will be elected, i can tell you, she will just shut her mouth and let bill, the liar, rule your country again from insight.

I certainly agree with you Judy Kilgore. You have said it so well! I second the motion that Emotional Speeches cannot win vote for real intelligent people. I invite everyone not to vote by bandwagon. I can see the sincerity, tact, spontaneity and intelligence of Hillary that could really lead America out of its present crisis. We need Hillary!

Thanks to Baltimore Sun for allowing us to post our comments here.
I invite you to view this interview of Hillary in NEVADA. This interview was impromtu----yet she spoke with substance and expounded on what she feels and what she hopes to do.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22688801/from/ET/

I hope many will conserve their votes and instead give it to Hillary. For the undecided, try to listen to this NEVADA interview which I linked below.

If I were a republican party boss, I definitely wish every democrat would vote for Obama in primary. After spending millions of dollars in trashing Clintons for almost 15 years, we still cant beat them down. What a shame! Let’s praise Obama now. He’ll be more easily defeated in the general election. Voters might like Democratic policies, but we can make them dislike the candidates personally. Look at Kerry! We are skilled in doing these, especially when we have saved ample bombs. Please just wait.

The planned Bill Clinton’s strategy is to attack to the bitter end Obama who is correct and morally strong to a point as to make him the candidate of only black folk of the USA. Bill is complaining that they most vetted than Obama. Of them the people of America know them quite well, they know that their couple can never serve as role model for anybody. What people are really about and desperately looking to be shown or told what the EXPERIENCE both are talking about, for up to now no one had ever grasped what such “experience” truly is. Bill and Hillary know better than everybody that in prevailing circumstances she can never be elected. So they are determined to spoil to the utmost the eventual Obama’s nomination or presidential victory. If is not Hillary let any of the republican hopefuls be the next president: So had the couple decided. The Obama candidacy represents the best of MLKs DREAM ! Obama’s triumph will be the redemption of Dr King legacy!

Well, Mr. Thrush and Swamp must have rethought the earlier version of this article which clearly sought to race bait. The earlier version included a passage that all but encouraged blacks to take Hillary's cutting her losses in South Carolina as somehow being dismissive of blacks. They'll resurrect later if advantageous though.

Sorry, Bill r. But it doesn't look like this race thing is going away anytime soon. The media won't let it.

Pio....I smell winger!

Pio! My long lost cousin. What country are you typing to us from? South Carolina? Good I'm up in Illinois.

"shokced the world"

Only an American would say that as only Americans , like those of other countries, would think the world revolves around them; everyone is attuned to their own politics better than the politics of others, even if it concerns super powers. I have lived abroad, and can tell you that the public is less concerned about the private lives of their officials than in America (for the most part as long as they do their job mistresses are a tradition), so it would be hard for the world at large to be shocked. Humored - You bet. Very very very humored by it.

Sorry, Bill r. But it doesn't look like this race thing is going away anytime soon. The media won't let it.

You may be right Biggdawg. It is ashame. Ever since news became 24 hours a day, they have left the issues behind for sensationalism. But I still have faith in the American people, and maybe this is what we need to do (growing pains). Imagine, we are on the verge of something 30 years ago no one would ever have thought. We've come a long way baby....

If obama win. I will be voting republican. I am being honest, I do not want to have a black President, I am sure I am not the only one and if I am I will still not vote for obama.

My posts continue to be censored by the SWAMP elite, but here it goes again.

Hillary has given up on the black vote. The Dem contest has not broken between white women and blacks. Latinos will break for Hillary and she will win the nomination. But with blacks staying home, the stage is set for a Republican upset if the Republican candidate - McCain? - plays it right.

Hector: I HAVE A fEELING THAT YOU JUST FEEL INFERIOR TO BARACK OBAMA. AT LEAST HE'S VERY WELL EDUCATED(ARE YOU???) i DOUBT IT!!! NO ONE REALLY CARES ABOUT YOUR SAD LITTLE VOTE, IF YOU EVEN HAVE YOUR PAPERS, THAT IS!!!

Mary Mary Mary-

The uneducated find it necessary to type in all caps in order to be heard. The uneducated tell others how much they are worth. I see that the message of Obama helping the poor and down trodden resonates very intimately and deeply within you.

Hector...The republicans would love to have you. Quite frankly, reading your post, I say don't wait till then.

Oh this was even better.

"Barack spends as little time as possible answering this ridiculous stuff and does it in a very DIGNIFIED WAY, unlike Hillary practically SHRIEKING and Bill losing his cool... like HE has any businee running HIS MOUTH ANYWAY!!! I don't know about anyone else, but I just CANNOT picture Hillary dealing with other coutries. Barack is much more cool, calm and collected - not to mention PRESIDENTIAL!!! Think about it fellow Americans.

Posted by: mary | January 21, 2008 7:07 PM "

"spend little time on ridicules stuff"
"shrieking"
"loosing cool"
"running mouth"
"can not deal with other countries"

You should know Mary. You should know.

Hillary is the best person for the job. If you look at her accomplishments and compare it to Obama's, it's no contest. She wins it by a landslide. Take a look at their bios on their websites. Experience does matter. There's too much at stake.

Mary - I may not be educated but I can vote and my vote weight as much as yours. Also, please do not judge people just because they do not like a black President. Because if I have to judge you the way you wrote you are way uneducated.

She can board HellForce One all she wants but here she goes again with this downplay tricky stuff of theirs. She did it with Iowa she did it with New Hampshire saying they were going to lose so she would leave and go elsewhere, saying that Obama would win and she didn't have the chance there, her way of gaining sympathy from the women, yuk, she did it with 2nd and 3rd quarter fundraising, saying that Obama would outraise her just for her to come out with her fundraising totals on the same day he was unveiling his speech. So this is all gimmicktry, game and dirt by the Clintons. They are just not to be trusted. I pity the Americans who are backing this woman and her husband for another whitehouse run. You think we are in bad shape now, huh! Wait and see it'll be the biggest American travesty, they will make George Bush look like Jimmy Carter because frankly I think Bill Clinton is either on anti-depressants or needs to be.

THE DIABOLIC CLINTON COUPLE AT WORK

The planned Bill Clinton’s strategy is to attack to the bitter end Obama who is correct and morally strong to a point as to make him the candidate of only black folk of the USA. Bill is complaining that they are the most vetted than Obama. Of them the people of America know quite, lot, they know that their couple can never serve as role model for anybody. What people are really about and desperately looking for is to be shown or told what the EXPERIENCE both are talking so loudly about really is. For up to now no one had ever grasped what such “experience” truly is. Bill and Hillary know better than everybody that in prevailing circumstances she can never be elected. Never Bill Clinton third run. So they are determined to spoil to the utmost the eventual Obama’s nomination or presidential victory. The diabolic Clinton couple’s machines had always well and successfully coordinated dirty tricks effort when they decided to smear, and retaliate against, Monica Lewinski Paula Jones, Juanita Broadrick, Kathleen Wiley, Jennifer Flowers, Sally Perdue, Dolly Browning and many others etc. The Clintons knew that Hillary would never be elected. Now Oprah W. is at the top of the list of their new victims. This diabolic duo with James Carville as surrogate strategist successfully convinced their African Americans cronies to believing that that Bill is blacker than any black African American who ever existed on the US soil.

They don’t care even if some African American leaders and ‘friends’ cautioned them against the backlash, knowing such a reaction will never occur, that is why the Clinton couple had, from the start been engaging political campaigns that are long on sleaze and short on substance. They also know that Barack Obama cannot, and will never match their strategy of sleazing. Their strategy is to harass Obama to the bitter end till he got totally exhausted. They keep repeating: If is not Hillary, let it any of the republican hopefuls be the next president: So had the couple decided. They know that the successful Obama candidacy represents the best and true realization of MLKs DREAM! Obama’s triumph will be the redemption of Dr King legacy about harmony and concord among the US citizens of all colors, beliefs! As General Colin Powell said Obama is not candidate because he is black, but as a US citizen, a candidate who happens to be black. The entire world is witnessing a former president deliberately playing the game of a person “completely out of control”. The strategy had always worked. Bill got a second term in the White House. Even when he left the WH his approval rate rocked. The couple knows that it needs not alienate the African American community that they believed had historically self-alienated themselves.
