The Swamp

by Mark Silva

All the attention on Florida's presidential primary election on Tuesday is focused on the Republicans, because the Democrats agreed to forgo campaigning here when the Democratic National Committee penalized Florida for staging an early primary, with the national party vowing not to count Florida's delegates at the Democratic convention in Denver.

But today, the highest-ranking Democratic state official in Florida is calling on the party to reconsider in the final days of a heated Republican campaign in the Sunshine State. She plans a lunch-hour press conference to show a letter she will send to the DNC urging the party to permit a campaign here in the closing days of a heated Republican primary contest.

Polling has long portrayed, and still portrays, Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York as favored among Florida's Democrats. With the prospect of Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois potentially winning South Carolina's Democratic primary on Saturday, Clinton probably would like nothing more than quick three-day swing through Florida to highlight a win here and counter the Obama factor heading in to Super Tuesday's multi-state contest on Feb. 5.

"She has a base down here,'' says Dario Moreno, a political scientist at Florida International University in Miami. It's solid enough to withstand an Obama victory in the Palmetto State, he says, and solid enough to serve her well in November, should she become party's nominee.

hillary gollum clinton and gollum jefferson clinton are obsessively seeking to regain their "precious" power back

they shriek and beg;

give us our precious

give us our precious

our answer - no - you couldn't handle the power the first time and your obsession now (and willingness to lie about obama so frequently and casually) only proves it all the more

so they will sleek around - and lie, cheat, beg, strongarm FOREVER to regain their "precious"

we'll do them both a favor and say no

by telling hillary gollum clinton and gollum jefferson clinton, "NO", we'll be doing the United States of America and the rest of the free world a giant favor

to vote for the gollums would be a hate crime against the earth

Mrs. & Mrs. Obama have tried to use race as a defensive mechanism to deflect any criticism of Obama on any issue during the campaign. This strategy has begun to backfire both with demorcrates ordinary Americans. Is why you have obama crying foul last few days.
Why does Michele Obama constantly draw distinctions between white and black voters? I thought her husband's campaign was supposed to be color-blind. Thanks to educated researching voters. We are seeing that Michelle Obama is dragging her husband by the nose using RACE. Michelle Obama said that "as a black man, you know, Barack can get shot by "a white racist going to the gas station."black America needs to wake up, According to Mrs. Obama, her husband isn't polling better among African-Americans because blacks think "others" are better. I wonder: what would the reaction would be if a white Republican suggested that African-Americans didn't support black candidates because they doubted that blacks could do it and they believed that someone else "was better"? It gives [blacks] very little credit to suggest that the decision [not to support Obama] is based solely on a psychic lack of faith. No seems to recall Mrs. Obama campaigning for Michael Steele. I don’t recall her saying blacks must vote for Kenneth Blackwell because he’s black. I don’t recall her calling for support of Justice Clarence Thomas." She is optimistic about his chances in South Carolina primary because black will be first factor in that election. South Carolina has become a must-win state for Obama who has lost the essence of his candidacy as the first black man to run as himself. Even a win in hotly contested South Carolina on Saturday is seen as actually hurting Obama because watching blacks block vote for Obama and his wifes insistant racist remarks is triggering a white/minority backlash.

We had a miraculous victory in Iowa," Michelle Obama said. "Ain't no black people in Iowa! Obamas constantly talking about color. With blacks, they should vote for him because he is black. Anything they don't like is racist against him. "

Can you say Reagan Democrats if Hillary get the nod? I will certainly pull the level for the republican candidate if she wins and I am a staunch democrat. How many of you feel the same way? And I live in New York...

The decision should stand. To change it now would be very suspicious.

I'll take McCain over Hillary and Day!

little t resident clinton basher,

for all their faults, the clintons back in the whitehouse would bring a great deal of international respect back to this country. respect and dimplomacy that has been squandered endlessly for two terms by the worst president in history.

picture the middle east if there were peace between israel and palestine. no president has come closer to brokering it than wjc. something i think he could achieve given another chance.

and enough with the lotr garbage, it's neither funny nor cute.

But I thought voting rules were secondary to the belief that no one should be disenfranchised. How can this not be?

I honestly think Hillary Clinton is the best person for the job. It takes a Clinton to clean up after a Bush! The country is in such a mess right now, we need a capable, experienced person to fix the problems. A man with only 3 years (!!!) of federal govt experience is in no position to suddenly be elected the chief, ultimate leader of federal powers (Sorry, Obama). I don't know any job where you get to be chief of the entire industry - leader of free world - after just three years! We need Hillary!

to john e - aka gollum

so at least you admit that this is all about nepotism on the part of the clintons

I wish I could jest - but the stakes are too high and you are wrong to assume I am trying to be funny with the LOTR analogy

it is an accurate allegory that speaks to the heart of what the clintons are really about

gollum jefferson clinton and hillary gollum clinton are seeking their "precious" power back - if you watch them at all with an open mind you will see their obsession easily

but the sad part is their dishonesty at extreme levels even against their own speaks to the blight that they are

I love my country too much to be silent

the fact that you criticize my allegory shows that it fits well enough to touch a nerve with the clinton faithful who are so willing to overlook the faults of these two "gollums"

I merely paint the truth with my metaphor

I am so sick of this. If Clinton ends up winning the primary, I will not vote for her. I am definitely loyal to Obama, but if he did not win, I was willing to vote for Clinton since she was a democrat....but after her unethical acts, lies, and dirty republican ways, I have lost all respect for her. I cannot believe that she is willing to do what ever it takes to win, even if it means tossing morals and dignity out the window. How could any one want somebody like this as our President. Clintons (both) are acting like Republicans with their dirty tricks. Has anyone even thought that it seemed like Bill Clinton was running for President, instead of his wife. I am extremely disgusted, and am starting to lose all faith in Washington. I have always never trusted any candidate until Barack Obama. Barack has literally got me "Fired Up, and Ready To Go." I have never been politically active until I heard Obama speak. He truly could inspire and motivate the entire country. It is a shame that somebody from his own political party could treat him so badly.

While I don't like Hillary at all (I'm a Republican), I think it is a major mistake to throw out Florida in the Democratic Primary. In 2000, the state was of paramount importance to the general election. If Hillary is the favorite in Florida, the fourth most populous state in the union , it should definitely count for something.

I am a Florida Naitive, living in Georgia, who also would have supported hillary clinton at one time, but I am a staunch African American supporter of Barack Obama. I spoke with my congressman, John Lewis, and informed him that his support of Hillary has pushed me out of the Democratic Party. I will vote in the Primary as a Democrat for Obama on Feb. 5th, and plan to vote as an independant for him in November, and if Hillary has the nomination, I will vote for the Republican candidate. I have spoken to many friends who have also gotten completely disgusted with the establishment of the DNC, and if they want Hillary, I would rather be in the GOP.

lil' t,

i'm not john e. i drop in here occasionally and get tired of reading your obsession with all things clinton.

as i stated, for all their faults, they would be a far better choice than any republican running and would bring a great deal of respect back to this country on an international level. wjc came inches from brokering peace in the middle east, which was something he put on his agenda well before he became potus. w attempting a last minute deal, under guard from 10,000 israeli police was nothing more than a photo op and lame attempt at salvaging something out of a shameful and failed presidency.

you are right, the clintons are power hungry and the stakes are high. which candidate, in your opinion, would serve our country better in a year? keep in mind the inevitable recession and wars that will still be unsettled.

btw, intentionally or not, sauron was eventually destoyed because of gollum. plus smeagol had that lovable side.

As a Floridan I know we need change. I see everyday elderly people being denied health coverage because of ability to pay. Hillary Clinton nor Barrack Hussien Obama are going to get the insurance companies out of our healthcare. If you want change don't let big media pick your president for you. Vote Dennis Kucinich, look up his policies vs any of the candidates and then you will truley see change happen.

..ONLY THING SHE'S EVER RUN......IS HER MOUTH !!!

Funny how everybody keeps saying they (the Clintons) would be a better choice. Bill Clinton is not running for president people. There is only "she" not "they".

Has anyone noticed how the right-wing press, all the wingnuts at Faux News, have changed their tune about Hillary Clinton. Historically, they have always hated her. Not so anymore....they actually seem to be promoting her. The strategy? The republicans know that the numbers in this election are not in their favor. Hillary is known to be one of the most divisive figures in the american political landscape (48% of the electorate say they would definitely NOT vote for her). She also has plenty of dirt of her own that has yet to surface in the mainstream press (A federal judge has ordered the conservative producers of the new documentary 'Hillary, the Movie' not to promote the film until AFTER the primary—how convenient. Also, search YouTube 'shocking video hillary', parts 1 and 2). So the republicans put a veteren, do-good centrist like McCain in the lead with all those hard-earned (wink) GOP dollars. Bam. The party gets their base, the middle AND the white house.
Hillary is just a power hungry decoy. No more dynasties, please.
Obama is our only chance.

John Edwards is the only candidate worthy of the nomination. He is the only candidate who has remained true to the ISSUES. He was the first to set the agenda on health care and the economy and the other candidates followed, largely borrowing his ideas. The media is fixated with Obama vs. Clinton but John Edwards is the only candidate committed to fighting for ordinary Americans. There are 3 candidates here, and John Edwards is my choice. It is time to take back our vote, our future, vote for John Edwards 2008.

Little unknown facts about hillary clinton....So i get tasked to clear a room with my K-9....apparently i didn't do it quick enough because she walked in during my search......what came out of her mouth next pissed me off.....QUOTE" WHY IS THE HELP IN THE SAME ROOM AS ME" END QUOTE.....so i said in a low voice...fine let her find the bomb. Just my 2 cents of the clintons...they think they our royalty..and expect to be treated as such.
