COLUMBIA, S.C. – The mood at Huckabee HQ is nervous, as early returns show the former governor trailing Sen. John McCain.
It's not yet doom and gloom around here, as only about 15 percent of the votes have been released. Also, cheers go up occasionally, as Huckabee's numbers climb. The crowd applauded when Thompson was on the tv's talking about supporting 2nd amendment rights.
Stacie Ward, a Huckabee supporter here, is like many SC voters who, with the lack of one issue dominating the debate in the race, voted based on personality and appeal.
"I think they're all OK, but I think he has the best character," she said of Huckabee.
"I just find him personable, quick-witted. You can trust him, that's most important."
Former SC Gov. David Beasley just took the stage, saying he's not worried about the numbers.
"We're going to have a victory here tonight," he said. "So just hang tight it might be a late night."
Beasley said the numbers being reported are not from areas of the state where Huckabee was expected to do well.

Fortunately, we are all free to vote as we choose. But I really wish some folks would take a bit more time to look at the issues instead of hating someone and bashing his character based on the sound bites they read about him in the media. I can't help but wonder how many of the persons who blog their venom against Mike Huckabee have ever seen him speak (via video or in person) and have ever even looked at his Web site. He is obviously very intelligent, very articulate, and not the stereotypical "hick" that he is accused of being.
If you don't like his stance on the issues, that's your business. But can't we be civil in the way we refer to candidates we don't agree with?
p.s. He is only 52. If he is "gone" for now, I doubt he's "gone" for good...

Huckabee for President 2008!!! Listen, I'm sick of people trying to down Mike Huckabee like he's some evil dictator looking to make the world believe and be as he is. I'm sick of people downing him because he believes theres a God. So what if you don't believe what he believes! He's not trying to make you believe what he believes. Mike Huckabee is a Christian, that believes that every life should be considered equal(that's yours too). He believes that our government's idea of taxes is wrong and that there is no fixing it, so we should scrap it for a national consumption tax called the "fair tax", that doesn't tax us on our income but on our spending, which promotes saving and wise spending. Now, I could go on and on about what good things he has proposed and supported, but I'll leave it at this. Mike Huckabee is not someone looking to make you someone your not. He's trying to make this country something we are all proud of, a place of equality, a place that gives every person a chance to be somebody. Some of you are so quick to judge! Go to MikeHuckabee.com and click on the "Issues" tab, you'll find out the truth about Huckabee. I hope some of you actually care about doing the research before slamming someone

That's where you are so wrong. When you say you want to change the constitution to be in Gods standards, how in the world can you possibly say he doesn't want to make you believe? You are just plain wrong and can't even see it.

bill r., Tim's right. Huckabee won't make anyone believe anything against their will. It's just that, if we change the Constitution to align with god's values (whatever the hell they might be) and you don't agree with that, you'd be free to be a disbeliever in prison.

How about we expose Huckabee. He's the one who ordered all of the hard drives and electronic backup systems in his office be destroyed when he was finishing his Governorship in Arkansas (this began after a file was leaked disclosing that he and his family had used emergency political funds for personal items, such as food and expensive clothing). The new Governor had to spend $400,000 of his budget to get all new computers and other systems due to the damage.
Yeah, Huckabee's not hiding anything. Also, his FairTax plan is a joke. Just like everyone else, he raised taxes and increased spending in Arkansas when he was Governor. He doesn't believe in or understand free trade policy, and worst of all, he wants to take away freedom of religion and turn this country into a theocracy modeled after his own personal beliefs.
Huckabee is a danger, and so is anyone who votes for him, as far as I am concerned.

Huckabee won't win the primary, but I'm fairly sure he'll be McCain's running mate. Which will nicely unite the party under a moderately conservative ticket. Which I think will be pretty hard to beat.

Those kids in the picture are awesome. I am a supporter of Huckabee as well.
