TIGERVILLE, S.C. – Gov. Mike Huckabee, the most vocal anti-illegal-immigration candidate of late, has now become the first in the field to sign the "No Amnesty" pledge from NumbersUSA, a self-proclaimed "immigration-reduction organization."
Huckabee signed the pledge Wednesday on the campus of North Greenville University, where he spoke to students at the Christian college. The pledge calls, in part, for no "amnesty or any other special path to citizenship for the millions of the foreign nationals unlawfully present in the United States.”
Through much of the campaign, other candidates, particularly Gov. Mitt Romney, called Huckabee weak on immigration, focusing on his support as governor for college scholarships for children of illegal immigrants in Arkansas.
"In all due respect, we are a better country than to punish children for what their parents did. We're a better country than that," Huckabee told Romney at the YouTube debate last November.
Huckabee has surely shifted the focus since then, such as earlier this week when he said that the government should put immigration on "hiatus" from countries "that sponsor terrorists."
On Wednesday, at an earlier stop in Travelers Rest – yes, that's the name of the town – Huckabee backed off that statement slightly, never mentioning the word "hiatus."
"I think we just need to do a more thorough job of insuring that when people come here and they come from nations that have been designated by the State Department as terrorist nations, that we are diligent in the background search," Huckabee said.

The previous responder has clearly not listened to Huck or he is simply willing to distort the truth. He should take a look at a long list of YouTube videos that show how principled and reasonable Huck is about religious matters. Huck has been slammed hard by the "old money crowd". Tiny facts about his record have been pulled out of context and made into stories that are no where close to truth. Take a look at the whole story and stop making stuff up that shows your own bias against those who believe that Jesus is our savior.

Immigration reduction? I thought the talking point was that Republics are agains ILLEGAL immigration, not immigration. So this pretty much proves my contention that Republicans will do anything to keep "different" people out of America. The Republican Party will do anything to appeal to racists and xenophobes.

Come on r., what do you think Huckabee is going to do, raise a magic wand and demand everyone bow down to Christ?! Get real! I've supported presidents who were almost atheist and one (Romney) who is a different religion, but I don't stay up nights thinking they'll force their religion on me. He has made it clear that is not his goal and referred to his 10 1/2 years as governor in Ark as proof. It's just refreshing to know that a leader STANDS for something, not moves for everything!

For the uneducated reading bill r's comments, understand this:
A president has NO POWER to amend the Constitution. In fact, the White House is cut out of the process altogether. An amendment must pass by two-thirds majorities in both houses of Congress AND THEN be ratified by three-fourths of the state legislatures. For those who failed math, that means 291 representatives, 67 senators and 38 state legislatures must approve an amendment before it becomes part of the Constitution. Anyone see any chance of that happening, even if Huckabee is president? If you do, got a bridge to sell you...
And regardless, if one wants to change the law in the U.S., there are more surreptitious routes to take than amending the Constitution. At least that puts everything on the table, for all to debate in a democratic fashion, rather than a reliance on judicial fiat or executive power to achieve one's goals.

I don't trust a thing Huckabee has to say.
He said three times, onece on National TV that he had a theology degree. He does not.
He said repreatedly that he has not pardoned murderers, he has pardoned 12.
He said the only proposed scholarships to high grade illegal kids; he proposed tuition break for all and financial aid for all entitled.
He said he was for tough enforcement of immigration, omitting to mention in Ohio his touch back amnesty plan which have them all back the next day.
This latest plan will take how many years to implement? Bet he drags his feet like Bush is doing. And he will implement his touch back scheme, make they visa candidates and all be back here again living off the USA taxpayer.

I think it is the Dems who are racists and those that support illegals. Our laws allow people from every country in the world to come here. The Dems and anti rule of law crowd just was Hispanics, which is a HUGE RACIAL PREFERENCE, discrimination and violates our Constitution.

America is going to head down a toilet unless we accomplish some things over the next few presidential elections. We have 2 major choices in the next few decades, either to increase our morality, or increase our net worth. Without either of these, we will fail and become another USSR like demise. Lets do both. We sell out to immoral acts, and to foreign industry daily. I say we put God back in our homes and politics. Even if you are an atheist, you can not argue that the good wholesome morals from faith prevail over the raunchy trash we are all exposed to daily. Our industries needs to stay here in our borders. We do not need to be slaves to another country (CHINA) for our materialistic way of life. Romney does seem like he has attachments to financial connections that have a foul stinch and the "kolob" mormon thing freaks me out. Mccain is a hero but he lacks the immigration gusto I need. Thompson needs to lay off and stop battering the one guy I think can do it. Huckabee has the morals, and the know how to put the IRS out, and bring in the "fairtax". Talk about an economic boost. I think he can turn the game around.

Mark - Great rundown on Huckabee's positions. How can anyone believe the Limbaugh rants after reading your synopsis? And how are we ever going to believe him again? Huckabee is a true conservative. If people would do a little digging on their own instead of listening to the headlines, they'll find the "experts" are twisting and misinterpreting Huckabee's record. For what reason? Just because they feel threatened by a man who doesn't run from his faith? Good grief. Huckabee has said many times that not once in the 10 1/2 years that he was governor of Arkansas did he attempt to pass legislation that would replace the Capital dome with a steeple. He doesn't impose his beliefs on anyone else. He governs. Conservatively.
