DAVENPORT, Iowa -- Illinois' senior senator is out on the trail today with his junior colleague, Barack Obama, whom he introduced this morning with his trademark deadpan.

"You were expecting another Illinois senator?" Sen. Dick Durbin asked a crowd of several hundred at a stop here. "He's on his way."

Durbin, who serves as the Senate's majority whip and is a friend of Obama, recalled being at a meeting about a year ago at Chicago's Union League Club, where he said he had a "heart to heart conversation" with the younger senator and urged him to run.

"This man touches our hearts. He gives us hope," Durbin said.

When it was his turn, Obama made a point of thanking "the senior senator from Illinois."

(He also explained why he was making do without a stage on Wednesday. The truck carrying the equipment hit a deer on the way to that event."We feel bad for the deer," Obama said. "We feel bad for the truck.")

As a former Illinoian all I can say I feel sorry for
Obama.Dick Durbin is an embarassment to Illinois. He really should find a new career. I really wonder when the good people of Illinois will wake up and see this man for what he is. That being a racial left wing democrat.Who just happens to be one of the problems with Congress.

Paulie,

What does that say about the sorry state of the Republic Party in IL?

I'll tell you what it says, the GOP is in such a sh*t hole mess that they can't find anyone who can even compete with Senator Durbin.

OBAMA 08!

John Dyslin for US Senate in IL!! Mr. Dyslin is a hardworking conservative American who knows what he believes and can reach across the aisle and compromise to get things done for all of IL and America.

You've said it very well John E.Let me add that if Durbin is beatable, how is it that the Great Illinois Repugnant Party has yet to find a challenger?

The very few wing nut posters here seem to be at a lost when it comes to discussing their own party.

Maybe Clarence Darrow, the wise one who believes everything Tricky Dicky said has a solution for a Repugnant to challenge the very beatable Durbin.

I can't support this guy Dyslin,he's a socialist according to Terry, because he supports all that tax payer money Bushie gave to Africa to fight aids.

That's socialism isn't boys?

Welcome back, Loon!

Lil Johnny D'TradeRagBoy has missed you.

Senator Durbin he is great. He should be the senate majority leader instead of Harry.

Thank you Senator Durbin for urging Senator Obama to run. You knew a true leader when you saw one.

Do you think Durbin is trying to get the "troop vote"? I'm sure all the comparison to Nazis will do him well.
