Greenville, S.C. – Seeking to underscore his long held opposition to abortion and his credentials as a fiscal conservative, Sen. John McCain unveiled a key endorsement this morning from one of the most socially conservative members of the U.S. Senate.

Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), a family physician, staunch anti-abortion opponent and foe of pork-barrel earmarks, gave his imprimatur to the McCain candidacy, a day after McCain lost the Michigan primary to former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

As he works to win a second primary election – this time in South Carolina – McCain's chief competition is former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, an ordained Baptist preacher. And former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who just won the Michigan primary, could become more of a factor here if he gets a good bounce from his victory.

Coburn's endorsement is meant to reassure conservative voters that McCain stands with them on the issues they care about. And campaign officials hope it will help keep Huckabee at bay.

At a rally here, Coburn said that while all of the presidential candidates in both parties are talking about change, only McCain has spent his career effecting change.

"What we need in our country is somebody who has the courage, the will and the constancy to take on the status quo," Coburn said.

"Since I came to Congress in 1995, I have met one true reformer – John McCain. He has the unique blend of character, guts, and experience needed to transform Washington from the inside out," he said. "He is beholden to no special interest. He is guided by strong conservative principles, and committed to doing what he believes is right without concern for political consequence."

In return, McCain called Coburn "our beacon and our guide and our compass" for those trying to restore trust and confidence in government.

"Time after time after time I've seen Tom Coburn stand up to the most powerful members of the Senate," McCain said.

If Jill Zuckman knew anything about Republicans, she'd know that Coburn, while a reliable social conservative vote, is best known to Republicans as a sworn opponent of earmarks and pork. Coburn and McCain have worked closely together on these spending issues.

Does McCain feel you should be able to sterilize a patient without their permission also?

A president only impacts abortion through his selection of Supreme court justices. As long as he is conservative it will work toward anti-abortion. McCain is not a conservative. I would fear any Judge he may appoint.
A far more pressing issue is stopping the illegal invasion, and enforcing our immigration laws ... and McCain is pro amnesty.

"MCCAIN SPEAKS"

FORGET HUCKLEBEE, HE CAN'T OVERTURN "THE RIGHT TO PRIVACY." ROE V WADE.

HE CAN OVERTURN THE 22ND AMENDMENT, BUT I CAN AND I WILL IF YOU ELECT ME PRESIDENT.

WE WILL TAKE BACK AMERICA AND IT'S STRONG.

WE WILL CLOSE OUR BORDERS, GIVE EVERY PERSON BORN AFTER 1964 A FORENSIC DNA EXAM AND GIVE THEM A BIOMETRIC STRIP THAT ONLY THE GOVERNMENT CAN DATA MINE.

WE WILL MAKE SURE THAT THE ESTATE TAX DOESN'T GET DEFEATED BY MAKING SURE ANYONE BORN AFTER 1964 DOES NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO CHALLENGE HIS DNA BECAUSE HIS PARENTS WERE BORN BEFORE 1964 AND WE DIDN'T DATA MINE THAT YET.

SO ALL YOU EVANGELICALS WHO WANT TO PUT AN END TO YOUR WIFE'S MENTAL QUEST FOR EQUALITY, THEN YOU BETTER GET ON MY MIDNIGHT EXPRESS TRAIN TO ISRAEL, I MEAN ARIZONA.

BUT YOU WON'T HEAR ANYTHING ABOUT "ANTHRAX", WMD NOT FOUND.

JOE WHAT ABOUT THAT ANTHRAX ATTACK ON AMERICAN SOIL. MR. HOMELAND SECURITY!

Roger hasn't switched to decaf, I see.

There is no one in the U.S. Senate who has fought longer and harder to stop pork barrel politics and earmarking than Senator Coburn. He should be commended for his efforts to clean up our federal government.

If there ever is a biological attack ... I hope it is anthrax. Anthrax is not transmissible from person to person. There are many worse things that can be used that would infect tens of thousands ... even hundreds of thousands before CDC could react.
The illegals flooding into this country pose more of a threat with their third world deseases, than an anthrax terrorist attack.

I wonder if the anti-abortion crowd is refusing inocculations from disease to remain true to their cause. WI-38 is now used for the production of all of the Rubella Virus vaccine used in the Western Hemisphere. WI-38...is used today for the manufacture of most human virus vaccines produced throughout the world including those for poliomyelitis, rubella, rubeola, varicella, mumps, rabies, adenoviruses and hepatitis A. Over one billion vaccinees have received vaccines produced on WI-38 or foreign version of Hayflick's original WI-38. This cell line was of course produced from the fetal tissue of an ABORTED fetus. So let us know. Are you boycotting vaccinations in the name of pro-life? I suspect not.

"GLASNOS SPEAKS"

ANTHRAX IS OKAY IT DOESN'T SPREAD FROM ONE PERSON TO THE NEXT.

NO ANTHRAX IS A BIOLOGICAL AGENT, THAT WAS USED IN A BIOLOGICAL ATTACK ON UNITED STATES SOIL.

WE KNOW IT WAS OKAY WITH THE GOP AND THERE FEARLESS PROPHET KING GEORGE.

NOW WE KNOW WHY IT JUST WASN'T A BIG THING ON THE RADAR.

GLASNOS YOU WEREN'T THE SITTING SENATOR OR CONGRESSMAN THAT RECEIVED IT, AND IT WASN'T YOUR MOTHER THAT DIED FROM BEING EXPOSED TO IT.

PLEASE SEND FLOWERS NOT YOUR IDEAS!

Don't be an idiot Morris. Anthrax vs aome deadly strains of communicable deseases is like the difference between an attack using a rifle and a nuclear bomb.

Today, the following businessmen from Arkansas released a statement in support of former Arkansas Governor, Mike Huckabee: Scott T. Ford, President and CEO, Alltel Corporation; Warren A. Stephens, President and CEO, Stephens Inc.; Madison Murphy, Former Chairman, Murphy Oil Corporation; John Tyson, Chairman of the Board, Tyson Foods, Inc; and French Hill, Chairman and CEO, Delta Trust and Banking Corporation:

"We are a traditionally bi-partisan group of executives of several of the largest corporations headquartered in the State of Arkansas, each with considerable exposure to the Administration of Governor Mike Huckabee. Of late, Governor Huckabee has attracted what we believe to be unwarranted criticism regarding his business record."

"Our experience with Governor Huckabee indicates that he not only values greatly the freedoms of religion and liberty, but of the free market as well. He is an atypical leader who garnered the respect of not only the professional business community but of the working men and women across our State as well."

"When he became our Governor, he inherited our long sub-standard education system, infrastructure, and regulatory climate. Under his leadership, we were able to grow our businesses, increase our employment, reduce our litigation exposure and enjoy, along with all of our fellow Arkansans, a healthier economy, improved schools, updated highways, and new healthcare delivery facilities."

"In our support of Governor Huckabee's truly conservative, small government business outlook and his pragmatic, yet compassionate style of governing, we invite you to look past the shallow rhetoric of yet another campaign season to see what we have experienced first hand - that with the right political leadership in place, businesses and citizens can jointly prosper and as they do, they contribute so much more to the economic and societal fabric of a community than simply tax revenues."
