GREENVILLE, S.C.--Hillary Clinton is running a little late for her speech here this morning, but her local supporters are finding ways to keep the crowd entertained.
Rep. Fletcher Smith of Greenville vamped for a while on the state of education policy, and on the need for health-care reform, and also took a minute to ruminate on recent criticism about how Bill Clinton has been handling himself on the campaign trail.
Some critics have suggested the former president pipe down a bit, but Fletcher disagrees.
"I am so proud of Bill Clinton," Smith said. "Any man who does not stand up for his wife does not deserve to have a wife the caliber of Hillary Clinton."
And anybody who thinks differently, he says, should be on notice that "Fletcher Smith has Bill Clinton's back."
This was followed by a surprise performance by a local singer, unexpectedly called out of the crowd to perform "Amazing Grace" a capella.
"Well," she said nervously before she began, "at my church we always say, 'Be ye also prepared.'"

Comments
fletcher smith is clearly and accurately attacking bill clinton's complete lack of character (or hillary's - or both)
this high ranking south carolina democrat says
"any man who does not stand up for his wife does not deserve to have a wife the caliber of Hillary"
knowing what bill has done in this marriage, then fletcher's accurate attack is clear - bill clinton sure as helllll does NOT deserve a high caliber wife
so is he saying hillary is NOT high caliber or is he saying bill doesn't deserve her - it pretty much has to be one or the other
the only other possibilities are that fletchie is either demented or a bold-faced liar
none of this speaks well of hilLIARy or her supporters
the truth is that only God knows if the clintons deserve each other as spouses
but now that the clintons have let their lying "true" colors re-appear, it is all too apparent that America with all of it's faults doesn't deserve such a terrible fate as having these two slimeballs back in office
what a sham
a vote for hilLIARy is a HATE crime against America
if fletchie smith, want to have the back of an honorable man, he needs to back Obama
Obama is twice the man bill will ever be (and in America's eyes, so are several republicans)
hiLIARy used to be a woman candidate fighting to empower women
now she's just a pawn for bill's craving to get back in office, just like lurleen was to george c wallace back in alabama, just like monica was a pawn for bill's other craving
hilLIARy is now a very bad female role model
and she CANNOT win without bill campaigning vicariously and vociferously and with venom for Obama - a decent man
she cannot win without negative campaigning against a fellow democrat - straight out of the politics as usual handbook
she's shown herself as the phony she has always been
I do not see how any self respecting female can support her
newsflash - many women are NOT supporting hilLIARy nor her philandering caricature of a spouse
take your blinders off all of you clinton lovers
your numbers are dwindling and rightfully so
to the possibility of bush/clinton/bush/clinton we must all say "no"

"I am so proud of Bill Clinton," Smith said. "Any man who does not stand up for his wife does not deserve to have a wife the caliber of Hillary Clinton."

Why are all the Obama supporters suddenly critisizing Bill for stumping for his wife? It is not a the Clinton's problem that they do not have a prominent former president to support them...
