On the 35th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, People for the American Way, the liberal interest group, is going after Sen. Susan Collins, the moderate Maine Republican, for siding with the Bush administration on judicial nominees.
Collins is up for reelection next year and PFAW wants to make sure Maine voters know she voted to confirm Justices John Roberts and Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court. The ad, narrated by the now-gravelly-voiced actor Kathleen Turner, is set to run next week on radio stations across Maine.
There's also a video version of the ad here. (You can tell it's an attack ad because Collins' picture is seen first in color and then fades to black and white.) In the ad, Turner says:
Senator Susan Collins says she’s pro-choice, but she voted for George Bush’s Supreme Court nominees.
Now, the Supreme Court is poised to dismantle women's choice piece by piece.
When it came to the Supreme Court, Susan Collins didn’t stand up for our rights. She stood with George W. Bush.
This week, tell Susan Collins to oppose judges who oppose Maine values.

Why don't you have another smoke and get back to playing transsexuals in sitcoms, Kathleen? The public can take care of this voting thing without your help.

"Sen. Susan Collins, the moderate Maine Democrat," Are you serious? Did you get paid to write this piece?
In case nobody told you, she is actually a moderate republican.

Not to mention that the new Supremes are all about the Imperial Presidency and Corporate rights over individuals. Read internal memo from J.D.

Every political figure to the right of Fidel Castro will be attacked by PFAW sometime in their career.
And there'll always be friendly reporters like James Oliphant to give PFAW's press releases and ads a million dollars in free publicity. At least, when he's not too busy giving free pub to moveon.org, HuffPo, and the rest of the tin foil left.

Don't take personal responsibility...just kill off an innocent unborn human life.
Times are going to change for the better since President Bush selected two very, very good justices.

dt,
(R) Susan Collins is going to lose her seat in Congress, you can bank on it.

The only good thing to come out of the Bu$hCo administration is that it's going to give the Dems a super-majority in Congress in 08, in that respect it almost won't matter if the Wingnuts get one of their pond scum candidates in the White House to replace W.

I could see how you would mistake, Jim, but they're right. Susan Collins is a republican. Let's end the subterfuge, though. No one fact checks or moderates this site.

Tom, facts and the ability to report responsibly and objectively are not part of Mr. Oliphant's resume. He only did this little item because he gets his marching orders from groups like Media Matters, moveon.org, People for the UnAmerican Way, etc.
Collins has been a solid senator. I don't always agree with her, but she is class, honesty and decency all the way around. It's a shame that sham groups like People for the UnAmerican Way have the ability to pull the nonsense they do.

Susan Collis is a Republican, but I'd hardly call her a moderate-- she votes with the GOP in the Senate more often than does Olympia Snowe, Maine's other senator, and Collins nearly always votes with Bush on important matters. She's not an ultra-conservative, but neither is she a moderate.
I do hope she loses to Tom Allen, but she is not a hateful person. I dislike most of her views, but she has shown herself to be a very upright and forthright person.
