ANDERSON, S.C. -- The battle for South Carolina is making Nevada look like a pillow fight. The Obama camp has been accusing the Clintons of distorting their record, particularly in stretching the candidate's mild-ish praise of Ronald Reagan to make it seem like Obama adored the Great Communicator.
Not to be outdone in the complaining-about-dirty-tricks-department, Hillaryland has posted a list of alleged Obama's nasty statements on NAFTA, Bill's paid speeches and the Clintons reported "20-year pact of ambition" to rule the universe.
"Senator Obama and his campaign have engaged in the very kind of political kneecapping and distortion that they now purport to detest," reads the intro.
Our favorite "distortion" is the very last one, which seems to be just a garden variety re-telling of L'affaire Rezko.
SEN. OBAMA FALSELY CLAIMED HE HAD NEVER DONE ANY FAVORS FOR REZKO. As a state senator, Barack Obama wrote letters to city and state officials supporting his political patron Tony Rezko's successful bid to get more than $14 million from taxpayers to build apartments for senior citizens. [Chicago Sun Times, 6/13/07]

Clintons, please, GO AWAY!
I have a headache...Clinton-fatique, anyone?

Dear Glenn:
Obama was representing the charities in the deals that you are tying to Rezko. Not Rezko. It was NOT a "favor" to Rezko; Obama was trying to get housing for senior citizens.
Posted by: Prantha | January 24, 2008 4:35 PM
Well at least now we know why Rezko would help Obama get a discount on his house. Obama was writing letters to secure funding for Rezkos company. One favor returns another. That is the Chicago way. Now someone (FBI) needs to investigate Obama illegally using his PAC to buy support for his presidential campagn. Maybe the Tribune writers could do their job and look into it, but I am sure Hillary will have to bring it up in order for the press to due their job.

typical clinton tactic - keep the lies flowing - each time one is responded to, divert attention to another one
by the way, hilLIARy, you self coronated queen of hypocrisy - NAFTA is fair game on every imaginable level
only creeps like the clintons would even try to insinuate that negative comments about such a major piece of legislation could possibly be off limits under any set of circumstances
the lies of the clintons are only matched by their audacity - but the clintons cannot handle ANY heat even on legitimate issues
so get the heck out of the kitchen, hilLIARy
you are certainly no leader but you are instead a mockery of the achievements of modern women and you are an unmitigated curse upon the middle class

Really, Swamp. That was your favorite of these? Here's mine:
"1) FACT -- SEN. OBAMA CLAIMED THIS MORNING 'NO ONE HAD AN INKLING' OF REZKO'S TROUBLES DURING THEIR RELATIONSHIP: Watch Sen. Obama's January 23 interviews today on Rezko here.
Sen. Obama said 'no one had an inkling he was involved in any problems' at the time of his relationship with Rezko. He was somebody who I knew and had been a supporter for many years. He was somebody who had supported a wide range of candidates all throughout Illinois. Nobody had an inkling that he was involved in any problems. When those problems were discovered, we returned money from him that had been contributed, and what is true is that I also purchased a piece of land from him. Everything was above board, and there's been no allegations that there wasn't. [CBS, 1/23/08]
Sen. Obama said, 'no one had any indications [Rezko] was engaging in wrong-doing.' Well, we have returned any money that we know was associated to Mr. Rezko and that is something that if there's additional information that we don't know about, we’d be happy to return the money. The facts are this. This is somebody who was active in politics in Illinois, who I knew. Nobody had any indications that he was engaging in wrong-doing. [ABC, 1/23/07]"
So he didn't read the newspaper articles chronicling Rezko's troubles for the year leading up to the first transaction? The first article appeared in July '04. He bought his house in August '05. Were it anyone other than Obama we might say they were blatantly lying.

The Clintons need a new playbook. They have over-used the tactic of accusing opponents what they are doing. Obama's problem is that he's too nice to "knee-cap" anyone. Maybe it's time that he starts, especially with the Clintons whose
attack strategy has always included hitting below the belt.

Good one Bigdawg. Rezko has been widly known for a long time to be an operator who buys politicians. There's no way that BO didn't know exactly who he was dealing with.
The public record alone is enogh to show that BO is lying. Furthermore, politicians knew what Rezko is well before the indictments and newspaper stories began.
As for donating the dirty money, the BO campaign has been notoriously slow doing that, waiting until the public pressure begins.

Bottom Line:
Like all of you. I know that health care is the most critical, and important issue facing the American people. Now, and in the coming elections. And like the vast majority of the American people, I want HR 676 (Medicare For All) passed into law NOW! "Single payer, Tax Supported, Not For Profit, True Universal Health Care" free for all as a right. Like every other developed country in the world has. See: http://www.house.gov/conyers/news_hr676.htm
“HR 676:
For church goers: less money to insur. companies and more to the church- lots more.
Srs on Medicare: save way over $100/wk. Because no more medigap, long term care & dental insur. needed. No more drug bills.”
But if we the American people fail to bring enough pressure on our current politicians to get HR 676 passed into law before the elections. We will have to identify, and replace all the politicians standing in the way of passage of HR 676. And, I think the best first place to start is with the politicians that blocked the bipartisan SCHIP bills for the kids. Passed by congress twice.
But what about the President. It was Bush after all that blocked the bipartisan SCHIP bill passed by congress to assure more health coverage for Americas kids. So which of the presidential hopefuls do I think will be most supportive of implementing the demand of the majority of the American people to have HR 676 (Medicare For All) passed into law immediately!
We have some very fine presidential candidates who would make good presidents. But none of the top Presidential candidates directly support HR 676, the only true Universal Health Care plan. So I am supporting Hillary Clinton. She is the only top candidate that has ever actually fought for universal health care before.
I have enormous admiration, and respect for Hillary Clinton. She fought a pitched battle against overwhelming odds back in 1993. To prevent this disastrous health care crisis that is now devastating the American people, and America. She fought so hard for the American people that she risk almost completely destroying her husbands presidency. I haven't forgotten her heroic effort. If any Presidential hopeful for universal health care deserves my support, it's her.
Also, if we the American people fail to bring enough pressure on our government to give us HR 676 which we all so desperately need NOW! Then we will need the most skilled politician we can get on our side to broker the best health care plan for the American people that we can get. Though it will be less than we need, and less than we deserve. The politician I think to best do this is Hillary Clinton. The Clinton's are probably the most skilled politicians in American history.
The insurance industry, and medical industry that has been ripping you off, and killing you has given Hillary Clinton so much money because they fear her. They have also given Barack Obama so much money because they fear Hillary Clinton. They think they can manipulate Barack Obama against the best interest of the American people better than they can manipulate Hillary Clinton. There is no race issue with Hillary Clinton. The Clinton's are the poster family for how African Americans want white people to be towards African Americans.
As always, African Americans are suffering, and dieing in this health care crisis at a much higher rate than any other group in America. The last time there was any significant drop in the African American death rate was when Bill Clinton was president.
My fellow Americans, you are dieing needlessly at an astounding rate. In higher numbers than any other people in the developed world. Rich, and poor a like. Insured, and uninsured. Men, women, children, and babies. And we the American people must stop it. And fix it NOW! Keep Fighting!!! Never! give up hope. There are millions of lives at stake. Bless you all... You are doing great!

The whole race thing is being exaggerated by the Clinton campaign in order to fuel a backlash by white voters who are on the fringe.Plain and simple.Rezko is under federal indictment and there is no mention of Barack Obama in any of the proceedings. It is a non issue being seized by people with no real ammunition. America is tired of,ploys and schemes,
half truths, lies and innuendo. Barack Obama is noew running against Bill and Hillary and I wish him the very best of luck. I join the new wave of American voter that supported the Clintons in the past but will not vote
if they are our nominee in this election. We need Obama not the DRAMA !

As a social psychologist I find it interesting how the Clinton's set things up.
-They stir up the race issue by unnecessarily making a comment about MLK (which did not make sense to make that distinction between MLK and LBJ, because Obama is both grassroots and lawmaker), blame it on Obama, then promote the race issue in South Carolina (to undermine an Obama win and seek to polarize majority whites to their corner). By doing so they seek to swiftboat Obama's message of unity.
-Their supporters seek to over-rule the Democratic National Parties earlier decision to have caucus sites on the Las Vegas strip once the Culinary Workers go Obama's way, and when the Union backlashes in a radio ad to a scenario of their making they attack both Obama for it and accuse the Union of being strong arm - with even Clinton supporters coming out and casting aspersions on the 'legal' status of union members to vote (i.e. they're full of illegal immigrants). They stir up, prior to the caucus, stories of union members putting the strong arm on workers to support Obama, and then instruct precinct captains to do whatever is necessary to prevent Obama supporters from taking part in the caucus - very undemocratic behavior.
-They distort Obama's words and even when the media has established the distortion as well as Obama face to face with Hillary, they put out an ad which perpetuates the distortion.
-They continually seem to be putting plants in their audience (Iowa, and most likely the pastor in SC just recently) to create false consensus or deliver scripted responses.
-They have vigorously been putting out such distortions and attacks against Obama since New Hampshire and when Obama seeks to clarify the record and take them to task Bill whines about being 'knee-capped'.
-They complain about a national ad that will get screening in Florida but the buy was for screening in South Carolina - but even before Obama made that buy they had been inquiring about venues and buys in Florida - so again it would seem to be using the stance of accusing the opponent of behavior that justifies their own under-handed and pre-determined behavior.
It seems they continually use a pattern whereby they create an issue then claim they are the victims.
Well, my goodness, why would you support these people? Shouldn't the people that run your country be people that set a good example and can be looked up to?

Lisa, that is just not true. I support Barack Obama and frankly appalled by these Rezko comments. The Swamps right wing slander nuts are out in force. That said, even though I agree the Clintons play hardball and sometimes swing below the belt, they have plenty of people like myself who will vote democrat this election cycle. Mainly because the republicans have done such a terrible job over the last few years. Politics is a contact sport. p.s. nice try. Somehow I doubt that Hillary is monitoring the Swamp to have the epiphenomenal insight, that Lisa's bidding is all that counts. Have a great weekend doll.

"Has anyone seen this photo?

Li Williams
A photo, and we know politicians routinely take photos with thousand of people they don't know, does not equate to a 17-year relationship with the crook. It does not equate with doing a real estate deal with the crook when everyone knew an indictment was imminent and then going on national television and lying about knowing of his troubles. It does not equate to writing letters of support in favor of projects that turned into slums -- slums that housed people in the very district whose voice you claimed to represent.
I'd venture to guess there are a heck of a lot more photos with this clown and the Obamas than that one photo.
I have a photo of myself with Desmond Tutu from years ago. I simply shook his hand took a photo and moved on. He didn't even get my name and wouldn't have a clue who I am if he saw me today. Would it impugn him if I later turned out to be a crook?
This deflection doesn't cut it.
