Obama says nothing more to say about Rezko: The Swamp

The Swamp

by John McCormick, updated

MACON, Ga. – The morning after winning South Carolina's primary, Sen. Barack Obama said he has shared everything that is to be known about his relationship with indicted Chicago developer Tony Rezko.

obama%20on%20abc%20news%20this%20week.jpg

Appearing on ABC's "This Week," the Illinois Democrat and presidential hopeful also answered a series of questions about racial campaigning and his leading challenger, Sen. Hillary Clinton.

Obama was asked specifically about a paragraph in an endorsement in Sunday's editions of the Chicago Tribune that calls on him to "divulge all there is to know about that relationship."

The editorial continues: "Until you do, the journalistic scrubbing and opposition research will intensify. You should have recognized Rezko as a political seducer of young talent. But given that you've not been accused of any crime or ethical breach, your Rezko history is not a deal-breaker."

Obama responded by saying there is nothing more to say.

"This is a story that has been out there for a year and has been thoroughly gnawed on by the press, both in Chicago and nationally," he said. "Tony Rezko was a friend of mine, a supporter, who I had known for 20 years. He was a contributor, not just to myself, but Democrats, as well as some Republicans throughout Illinois. Everybody perceived him as a businessman and developer. He got into trouble that was completely unrelated to me, and nobody has suggested that I've been involved in any of those problems. I did make a mistake by purchasing a small strip of property from him, at a time where at that point he was under the cloud of a potential investigation. I've acknowledged that was a mistake. But again, nobody has suggested any wrong-doing, and I think at this point, it's important for people to recognize that I have actually provided all the information that's out there about it."

Host George Stephanopoulos then asked whether Obama would return any additional money he has raised during his political career that has ties to Rezko.

"Absolutely," Obama said. "What we've done is we've traced any fund that we know of that we think were connected to him, and if there are other funds that were connected to him that we're not aware of, then we will certainly return them."

In a morning news release, Obama's campaign noted several endorsements in Sunday newspapers across the nation, but not the one from one of his two hometown newspapers. Illinois is a Feb. 5 state, but one where Obama is expected to do well.

Besides giving his campaign a significant boost, Obama said he takes pride in the South Carolina win because more Democrats turned out in the state than Republicans did for their primary a week earlier.

Asked about a statement made yesterday by former President Bill Clinton that seemed to compare Obama with the Rev. Jesse Jackson, Obama disputed the comparison.

"Jesse Jackson ran historic races in 1984 and 1988," he said. "That was 20 years ago. What we saw in this election was a shift in South Carolina…People want change, I think they want to get beyond some of the racial politics."

Obama also stood by his recent past remarks about President Ronald.

"Ronald Reagan was able to get Democrats to vote for the Republican ticket," he said. "This is one of those moments where I think Democrats have the opportunity to do what Ronald Reagan did."

Obama also had kind words for another past president, but he stressed the past.

"Bill Clinton did an important service for the Democratic Party," he said. "He recognized that we needed to take the old traditional values of the Democratic Party…and update them for a new ere. I think Bill Clinton did important work in the 1990s."

On a reported possible endorsement soon by Sen. Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts, Obama said he had nothing to announce.

"I'll let Ted Kennedy speak for himself. Nobody does it better," Obama said. "We have certainly actively sought it."

End of story.

I wish this were the case...but..politics loves the smear campaign. They work, the weak mind and pundits love it. I believe the post from the trib the other day is a perfect example. A "photo" from who knows when with no where or what. Not really good journalism. The media will not print anything unless it has a conflict to it. Why do you think the Bi-lines always read "the battle for this" "The race to this"? It sells papers and that's good enough for them.

Correction: Obama says nothing about Rezko.

Stephanopoulos gave him a chance to put it all to rest, and the best Mr Harvard Law could come up with was "I made a mistake". Really?

But then he has had a 20 year or so relationship with a purchaser of political influence (and his associates)... so really, what can he possiby say?

What did you expect Obama to do? Discuss every lunch he may have ever had with Rezko? Conjecture about Rezko's alleged crimes? What if Obama is actually telling the truth? He's not going to sit there and make things up just to satisfy the ravenous press. And he's not going to spill every mundane detail, either. The men knew each other for 20 years. That doesn't mean they were best friends and knew each other's dirty political or criminal secrets. Get over it. There's nothing there. And let me say one more time...Whitewater.

No need for "Senator" Obama to say anything more about it. Afterall, past actions speak louder than words.

The Chicago Tribune endorsement editorial claims Barack Obama has "not been accused of any crime or ethical breach" regarding indicted political fixer Tony Rezko.

NOT BEEN ACCUSED OF ANY CRIME OR ETHICAL BREACH?

What world do these people live in? Or are they that confident that such open untruths will be accepted?

In the real world, literally THOUSANDS of people have accused Obama of ethical breaches. To give but one example of many, see a Chicago Sun Times article at:

http://www.suntimes.com/news/425305,CST-NWS-obama13.article

Or this:

http://www.suntimes.com/news/metro/353829,CST-NWS-rez23.article

A 30-second internet search can find thousands of ethics accusations, accusations the Tribune and Obama assert never were made.

Since when has an indictment become a conviction in our country?

Give Rezko his day in court. Fitzgerald couldn't even convict the Bush team on anything more than a technicality. The press has given him far too much credit.

I was surprised Obama didn't at least try to make that case for his "friend."

If a friend of mine is ever indicted on charges that had nothing to do with me, I'd say he IS my friend and I'd ask everyone - esp. the Clintons who should know a thing or two about trumped up charges - to let him have his day in court.

But then he has had a 20 year or so relationship with a purchaser of political influence (and his associates)... so really, what can he possiby say?

Senator Obama has been charged with NOTHING, you can cry about it and be racist all you want to, sicko.

John McCain, Founding Member of the Keating Five:

Back in the old days, defendants in famous trials got numbers -- the Chicago Eight, the Gang of Four, the Dave Clark Five, the Daytona 500. McCain was one of the "Keating Five," congressmen investigated on ethics charges for strenuously helping convicted racketeer Charles Keating after he gave them large campaign contributions and vacation trips.
Charles Keating was convicted of racketeering and fraud in both state and federal court after his Lincoln Savings & Loan collapsed, costing the taxpayers $3.4 billion. His convictions were overturned on technicalities; for example, the federal conviction was overturned because jurors had heard about his state conviction, and his state charges because Judge Lance Ito (yes, that judge) screwed up jury instructions. Neither court cleared him, and he faces new trials in both courts.)

Though he was not convicted of anything, McCain intervened on behalf of Charles Keating after Keating gave McCain at least $112,00 in contributions. In the mid-1980s, McCain made at least 9 trips on Keating's airplanes, and 3 of those were to Keating's luxurious retreat in the Bahamas. McCain's wife and father-in-law also were the largest investors (at $350,000) in a Keating shopping center; the Phoenix New Times called it a "sweetheart deal."

Obama's relationship with Rezko will soon become his blue dress. Obama's response was not an answer, but a dodge. Rezko raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Obama's campaigns. They were tight as ticks. State Sen.Obama wrote to the Chicago Housing Authority supporting a multi-million contract with Rezko to build low-income housing. The place was so poorly built and maintained that residents went without heat for 5 months. They were Obama's own constituents, but he said he heard nothing about the problem! Obama could not afford the palatial mansion his wife wanted to buy. No problem. Barack called his slumlord/lawfirm client/ buddy. Knowing that Rezko was under investigation for massive corruption, he nevertheless went to Rezko for help. Rezko convinced the seller to split the house off from the adjoining lot. This reduced Obama's price for the house by $650,000. At the same moment, Mrs. Rezko bought the lot for $650,000. That way seller got all the money he wanted, and Obama got the home he wanted with a little help-$650,000 worth- from his friends. Obama, prevaricator that he is, left this inconvenient truth out of his answer. He reduced his description of the transaction to a deal with Mrs. Rezko to a purchase of a strip of the adjoining lot AFTER she bought it to help him out. He says that was a mistake. He never says that taking the $650,000 benefit from Rezko was a mistake. This is the kind of ethical conduct Obama wants to bring to the White House, I guess. All this is spelled out in the Chicago Tribune and Sun-Times articles which you can find on the net. Before the next Obama supporter calls "stupid" those of us who haven't been seduced by Obama, he/she should do some reading.

So, does that mean he's going to donate his house?

He should, seeing as how he got it for $300K less then the actual value of the home. To me, that's the same as cash, (as in payment, as in bribe).

That would include the 10 foot strip of land he later purchased for that home.

What's more interesting to me is how the Replubicans want Obama to win, which is why they're attacking Hillary, now.

They're afraid of Hillary because she can take them on.

If Obama gets the Democrat nod, the Replublicans are going to tear him apart.

Mark it. You'll see.

Nothing more to say about it?

Not gonna happen.

What about the letter he wrote on behalf of Rezko to secure stats funding for Rezkos company? How about how Rezko helped the Obamas buy their dreamhouse that they could not afford on their own? There is a lot more to answer for and he only wishes there is no more to tell.

Until the "breath of fresh air" explains why he wrote a letter on Rezko's behalf and accepted his political patronage this story will only grow. Obama needs to come clean if he's ever going to put this behind him.

Obama and Rezko didn't just know each other as casual aquaintances, they had a long standing personal freindship and financial relationship.

Then there is Obama's influencing the CHA on behalf of Rezko.

How all of that doesn't add up to an "ethical Breach" for the Tribune Editorial Board is a mystery.

35 years of "experience" and all that Hillary and her supporters have is to push this non-story. Obama has been forthcoming and admitted his mistakes. There's no accusation of any wrongdoing on Obama's part. The Clintons have their own history of shady donors, not to mention Hillary's brothers and the pardons. . . but let's not go there. Here's the real point: At every level of government Obama has fought for reforms to make government more open, accountable and democratic. Hillary, in all of her experience, cannot say the same thing and that is why she's running on smear and fear. I'll take the hopemonger. Go Obama.

It's amazing to me how Obama has gotten such a free ride from the media in this campaign. They report only the good about him, and the bad about Hillary. I am tired of this biasness. I couldn't also believe the hate that has been adopted by the supporters of Obama all over the internet "blogs". And these are supposed to be Christian people. Obama supporters have gotten as bad as the right-wingers. I have been a life-long Democrat and cannot support somebody that does not have the experience needed to be President. He talks in generalities and sound bites and doesn't give much as far as specifics. But I guess his supporters and the media just don't care. We don't need another learn -on-the-job President like we've had for the past 7 years. I don't want a "buddy" to be the President, but somebody who is tough and can get the job done.

Jeffy,

You have to be suffering from short-term memory loss to consider McCain's candidacy without laughing. In fact, the more you know of his record the worse it gets.

McCain is a one issue candidate (Iraq) and he's on the wrong side of that issue, after about two months of general election campaigning he'll lose all of his Independent support.

Bring up Rezko all you want, Sleepy McSurge McCain has his own rats nest to worry about and it will come out, bigtime.

So Obama wrote a letter on the behalf of the Rezko project along with 10 or 15 other pols...is anyone asking them about the letters they wrote? No there there. Now if you really want a story how about Hillary and Peter Paul?

Anyone who has seen the allegations against Rezko knows that the feds have mountains of evidence against him. His indictment will most likely end in a guilty plea. Innocent until proven guilty, yes, just like Michael Vick. Patrick Fitzgerald doesn't indict anyone that he doesn't have rock solid proof against. Expect a plea out of Rezko.

are you people actually serious? i dare you to name ONE POLITICIAN who has not had his/her hands tainted by money.

don't even make me remind you about the clintons.

i don't know much about law firms, but if you're a junior associate as obama was, you're basically doing stuff on behalf of the big dogs like writing letters, etc. he worked on this rezko project for 5-7 hours. gimme a break. that's less than one day of work so quit your whining.

If I didn't already know that, as usual, 3/4 of the anti-Obama posts on this thread were coming from "MJ" aka Leo T Juanito and his various fake post names, I'd be worried. I'm not.

Keep grasping at straws (Rezko) Republitards, I'm loving it.

OBAMA 08!!!

What strikes me is that the Chicago Tribune said that Obama should "divulge all there is to know about that relationship."

Now, isn't that a cop out? Isn't it the newspaper's job to find that out - if there's indeed anything else there? Obama says there's nothing more to add. If the newspaper doesn't believe him, the onus is on them to prove him wrong - and what a scoop that would be. But if, after all the effort they seem to have spent on this story, they've found nothing, then Obama must be telling the truth. He can't divulge something that doesn't exist!

Come on Chicago Tribune, prove that you're a real newspaper rather than just another of those yellow rags.

It's just amazing that this story keeps getting press.

Obama was a kid in a law firm working on whatever dribs and drabs of legal work that the more senior lawyers threw his way. It was his first job. He wasn't a power broker then. He was just cutting his teeth. He did a few hours of grunt work filling out forms and filing papers. That's it.

In the city where I live, the big wigs are out there every which way. There's probably not a Chicago politician who hasn't had some kind of interaction with Rezko.

I know a few of the big developers in my city. We're casual friends--we'll stop and chat or sit down and have a coffee when we run into each other. One has helped me out on a personal level through his connections--all innocuous, at least to me. If any of them have anything negative legally brewing underneath the surface, I wouldn't know about it. If something blew up, would I be culpable for simply knowing them? For allowing one of them to do me a favor?

This has gone on way too far. Obama has been honest about the facts and has done everything he can to rectify what has turned out only in retrospect to have been a misjudgement.

Can anyone say the same about the sleazy trail of scandal that has followed the Clintons for 35 years?

Give me a break!

justin,

So you're telling us that Obama is just one more political thief... that there is no prospect for "change" at all. That his whole career being financed by the likes of Rezko the slum lord, and Lobbyists like Winston and Strawn, Jeffery Peck, Rich Tarplin and others is just politics as usual... and Barack is all about politics as usual.

OK, got it.

Posted by: anonymous | January 27, 2008 7:58 PM,

Do a little research and you'll find that Obama's Rezko connection is far longer and more involved than that of a "kid in a law firm" doing the seniors' grunt work.

Give us a break.

I can't believe Obama is being treated as a "Savior". He wants to put the pioneers in civil rights out to pasture while he reaps the benefits. I hope people can see through this. When did he become black instead of "other"?

Have we all finally had enough of Hillary and Bill Clinton? Is the Democratic Party energized finally to that crescendo moment that propels all of America to those greater heights we all dream of?

Even in the aftershock of a decisive Obama landslide victory in South Carolina, Hillary and Bill are right back to the playbook of dirty tricks that we are all so accustomed to by now.

Bill Clinton's latest derision of Barack Obama; that Jesse Jackson won in South Carolina before, so let's look to February 5th when millions of Americans will weigh in on this election. As if to say South Carolina really doesn't count and those are the folks that voted for Jesse Jackson's failed candidacy.

And then there was Hillary, one sentence after her disingenuous congratulatory remark for Obama, proclaiming "On to Florida!". That's right, Florida. A state along with Michigan that the
candidates had already agreed would not become part of the delegate equation because of rules and scheduling. Kind of reminds me of what happened in Nevada with the Caucus locations on the Las Vegas strip.

Do you ever get the feeling that there is nothing the Clintons wouldn't do to get their way. I actually fear the Clintons almost as much as the other side. In this frightening brave new world, will we remain entrenched with the policies and tactics that are more closely analogous to the constructs of neo conservatism or will we free ourselves from the chains of fascism and
oppression, now and forever.

The Clintons must see the writing on the wall. America is fed up with all of their Rovian tactics.
Divide, conquer, triangulate and when finally no one is left standing another pathetic assertion of how we are all family in the end. Is there any doubt what the outcome would be with another Clinton Regime in the White House? How about NAFTA the sequel or another brilliant
Telecommunications Act.

When Barack Obama alluded to Ronald Reagan as a transformative figure in political history he was spot on. Caroline Kennedy in a very moving and eloquent editorial for the New York Times tells the
world unequivocally that Barack Obama is much like her father, able to inspire and unite a nation
once divided. Monday we will also hear from Ted Kennedy, as he will deliver another moment of
truth by endorsing Barack Obama's march to the White House.

I suppose Bill's next 'Hit Job' will be that Camelot was a fairy tale too. Sadly, the only fairy
tale was beleiving that the Clintons were half as good as they pretend to be.

I find "suspicion" in Sen. Obama's 20 year relationship with Mr. Rezko. Obama had stated in the South Carolina Debate that his relationship "stems from 5 hours of work" on a community development project. His statement is inconsistent with the facts... Furthermore, how can you have "a friend" for 20 years and not know anything about their professional dealings or their character... I'm not buying it!

Obama has looked into the heart of our times and identified what we have lost sight of. He reminds us.

Each one of us has a choice:

A choice to put our voice forward or be dictated to
A choice to be resilient or passive victims
A choice to seek for inspiration or be despondent in fatalism
A choice to revitalize and motivate our youth or encourage apathy
A choice to demand morality and truthfulness from our leaders or accept deception
A choice between finding a higher cause or hating each other for our differences
A choice to understand that we are stronger standing together than divided
A choice to go forward in hope or to continue in fear
Open your eyes…

Disbelieve the man if you will, but not his message. This is a call to voice. A referendum on where we go from here.

PS. For the people buying the anti-Obama Rezco spin, please be aware that these people are writing the history in a way that leaves out critical information in a bid to increase your doubts. For example, when one person in an earlier post said that the tenants did not have heating for 5 months - you may well find that the deterioration of the houses occurred some years after they were built, when Rezco became unable to maintain them. That is Rezco's issue - not Obamas. Rezco was a well known property developer for many years in Chicago and he helped raise funds for many politicians - Democrats and Republicans included. This issue is being inflated on Obama becaue of who he is.

OK, "Thomas Pleck", State of Illinois "Law Associate" [chuckle] please share your "research" with us. (This should be hilarious!)

Meanwhile, I have done some basic research (actual research, "Thomas Pleck", not the pretend stuff) about Barack Obama. Anybody else can do the same: spend half an hour on Google and you can learn about Obama's record, who he collects his money from and of course his long-term relationship from Tony Rezko.

This information can be had from mainstream news organizations (newspapers, magazines, broadcast)... usually the ones accused of having a Liberal bias, by the way.

**(Ms. Obama, vice-president for external affairs at the University of Chicago Hospitals, putting out feelers indicating she'd like to get some corporate management experience.” As if working for a hospital that charges uninsured minorities 5.4 times as much for drugs as Whites with insurance isn’t enough cold hearted corporate experience. Plus she cause hundreds to loose their 11.hr jobs she said to be more efficent)

In 2005, she was also elected to the board of directors of west suburban Westchester-based TreeHouse Foods, which calls itself the nation's largest pickle and pepper supplier. For that, she received $12,000 and $33,000 from a subsidiary.
On Nov. 26, it announced plans to close its La Junta, Colo. plant, a move that claimed the jobs of 153 workers, most of them Hispanic — a big blow to a rural town with only 9,500 residents. The jobs paid a starting wage of $11 an hour, good pay for the area. I share the sentiment. Companies that pay top execs tens of millions a year while squeezing the little guys on the production line or in the back office are destroying middle-class America.
Which raises a question — not about corporate values but about Mr. Obama's values. Specifically, while Mr. Obama bashes Wal-Mart, why does his wife, Michelle, make $45,000 a year serving on the board of a Chicago-area company that pays its executives a very hefty amount of money while laying off mostly minority workers in an economically deprived area, a company whose No. 1 customer is — you guessed it — Wal-Mart? In early 2005, Texas-based Dean Foods Co. spun off its processed-food subsidiary into an independent company, TreeHouse Foods Inc. Stock in Westchester-based TreeHouse began trading on June 15, 2005. Elected to its board of directors on June 6 of that year was Michelle Obama, who receives $30,000 a year plus $1,500 per board or committee meeting she attends. That totaled $45,000 in 2005, according to Mr. Obama's Senate ethics disclosure. Ms. Obama got 7,500 stock options this year, company filings show. At the current price of TreeHouse stock, she has a paper profit of about $60,000 on the options.

Jay, it seems I need to spell out the obvious:

1) The fact that Obama wasn't personally responsible for the heat is an evasion. The point is that he sold out his constituents -- people who were vulnerable and particularly in need of a responsible, ethical representative in government.

2) Your pointing out that Rezko has bought other politicians besides Obama is no defense of Obama. In fact you're reinforcing my point -- that BO is just another corrupt pol.

Taking campaign contributions from someone who turns out to be a bad guy happens, They all do it on occasion. The Difference ehere however is significant. Obama knew Rezko was corrupt when Obama took the money. Obama not only knew Rezko was corrupt but he was doing real estate deals behind the scenes with the guy. On top of that Obama then proceeded to be dishonest to the voters about it all on national tv during the SC debate claiming he only did 5 hours work with Rezko. Obama is not what he portrays himself as, and he's a lawyer, wake up people. Obama has alot of great ideas and things to say, but I see a vote for him like a vote for a guy 'because you can sit and have a beer with him' Bush had alot of things to say about change and fixing America too once, and we see where that got us.

With all due respect for Mr. Obama and the campaign he has run I'd have to agree he has alot of good things to say, who can argue with that? but the major difference is, Obama has nothing really but his words so far, what has he actually accomplished? nothing much in his 2 very short years in the Senate. He skipped on 130 Senate votes, no one does that and gets things done, seriously. Change happens when you TAKE ACTION and sitting back and not voting 130 times, is not taking action. You know I have nothing against Obama's ideas, but Hillary and Edwards both have alot more to back up their promises. One step at a time, I think Obama is an impulsive choice and the wrong choice for what America needs right now. Change is great! of course it is, we ALL want change and no one wants it and can make that change happen more effectively for what we all need to restore America right away quite like Hillary Clinton starting on her first day in office. Hillary has my vote and support all the way and John Edwards is my second choice, I wish Edwards would be Hillary's running mate in fact, those two would be just awesome together. I would consider Obama another time but he is way too young, untested and inexperienced still for what we need done now. Do the right thing and vote for what we KNOW will work at a time in America's history when we cannot afford to lose another another child, another job, another business, another family, another home, another day. Hillary already knows exactly what to do and how to do it, you cannot just promise that or say 'yes you can' make change, it takes hard work. You have to actually have the skills and know how to get it done like Hillary absolutely does. Bottom line, you don't hire an amateur to do a professional job. Vote for Hillary for real serious, immediate change, she is the sure thing and she will not let us down.

Hillary All the Way!!!!!!

Some news that will make the Rezko issue stay alive and well in the campaign.

To everyone defending Obama and saying Rezko is innocent until proven guilty. Moving money offshore in what could be preparations to flee the country are not the actions of an innocent man.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-rezko-arrested_webjan29,0,2320595.story

If y'all remember. George Stephanopoulos is a Clinton supporter. That was one of the most political bias interviews I have ever seen. It appeared that the Clinton campaign people gave him those questions to ask Obama. What George was most concerned about was if or not Sen. Obama would return the money. Now if thats not Clintonian, I don't know what is.

Are you kidding?

Oracle called Obama doesn't have to explain anything. All he has to do is to say "it has been discussed", end of story.

Where and how did Obama make enough money to pay for a multimillion dollar home.

"After law school, Obama taught for many years at the University of Chicago Law School and helped organize voter registration drives. He also joined the civil rights law firm of Miner, Barnhill & Galland".

Didn't know teaching law at University of Chicago is such lucrative job.

Somethings are not adding up but the big media is scared of Obama

I believe this is a story waiting to happen. Difficult for me to believe otherwise with so much association between the two in such a short period of time and particularly with the beginning shortly before Obama began a move toward political involvement.

I would hope not, it would be nice to see a clean politician for a change.

2) Your pointing out that Rezko has bought other politicians besides Obama is no defense of Obama. In fact you're reinforcing my point -- that BO is just another corrupt pol.

Jay,

Let it go, you're trying to talk rationally with a socio-path with an extreme racist hatred of Senator Obama...although I have to admit, watching this moron hypervenilate over Rezko makes me laugh.

Let's see how long we can keep him going ;-)

Jay,

MJ is a rightwing lunitic fringer, he's not changing anyone's mind on the non-Rezko situation with Obama other than his fellow Republican Party members who are already pre-programmed to think that way anyway. He likes to think he's important.

"He should, seeing as how he got it for $300K less then the actual value of the home.

My recollection of this is that Obama got the house significantly less than the ASKING price, not the ACTUAL VALUE of the property (that being because, also according to my recollection, the property was admittedly overpriced and had sat on the market for a while).

I can list my house at $175Million if I want to, but that doesn't mean it's WORTH $175Million. And if YOU decide you'll offer only $100 for it and I accept that offer, then the ACTUAL VALUE of that home is $100.

Bring that up as a bribe when you get some evidence that there was some kind of kickback from the seller, or that Obama somehow coerced the seller to accept his offer rather than that of a higher bidder.

Thanks!

Scott,

Nice try Scottie, but sorry... Trying to paint me as "rightwing lunitic fringer" (sic) simply won't work. Nothing I have written bears that out.

So, would you care to address the facts with which I and others have made you so uncomfortable? No? I didn't think so.

PS to John E: I'm very impressed with your new title!

What percentage of people taking this so-called scandal seriously do you think are sitting in Clinton volunteer (paid or otherwise) centers, typing away at any blog or news article involving Rezko. It's called "astroturfing", fake grassroots. An acquaintance of mine works for a company like that, they've worked on creating artificial popular opposition to taxes that affect big business, and the same company worked for Spitzer's campaign and now Clinton's. I don't know if they're astroturfing about Rezko but I do know the Clintons are paying at least one such consulting firm to do that sort of work.

John W. Adams,
Showing these clowns analogies that explain perfectly the point you are trying to make won't work for these ideologue hacks. If McCain's Keating 5 history is not an issue, I don't know why Jeff is manufacturing outrage over this non-story. Perhaps he can explain.

We're trying to get past the politics of personal destruction, Roveites. Debate some issues, damn it! Lets call the Keating Five and Rezko a tie and move on.

Man, the Obamabots are in full-blown shrieking denial. Who cares? they say. Doesn't matter. I'm not listening, lalalalalala.
