The Clintons, pictured with Tony Rezko. Hillary Clinton said today on the Today Show that she has posed for thousands of pictures and doesn't know the man. Frame photo by MSNBC.
By Mike Dorning
CHARLESTON, S.C.--A photo has surfaced that shows Hillary and Bill Clinton posing with Chicago developer Tony Rezko, a Barack Obama contributor whom Hillary Clinton condemned as a "slum landlord" supporter of the Illinois senator earlier this week.
Clinton was shown the photo during an interview on NBC's Today Show this morning but told host Matt Lauer she did not remember meeting Rezko.
"No, I don't," Clinton told Lauer. "You know, I probably have taken hundreds of thousands of pictures."
"I don't know the man. I wouldn't know him if he walked in the door. I don't have a 17-year relationship with him," Clinton added.
During a presidential debate Monday evening, Clinton blasted Obama for his relationship with Rezko, telling Obama she had fought Republican policies as first lady during the 1990s while "you were practicing law and representing your contributor, Rezko, in his slum landlord business in inner-city Chicago."
The photo is undated but Lauer said NBC News believes it was taken during Bill Clinton's presidency.
According to a database of campaign contributions maintained by the non-partisan Center for Responsive Politics, Rezko made a $15,000 contribution to the Democratic National Committee in March 2000, the last year of the Clinton presidency. Rezko also made a $1,250 contribution during the Clinton re-election campaign in 1996 to a Democratic party account that funded activities in Illinois to help win the election.
As the leader of the party, President Clinton and the first lady were active fundraisers for the Democratic National Committee during his presidency. They frequently hosted events for signicant contributors and party fundraisers that often included a chance to be photographed with the first couple.
At the time, "soft-money" contributions to the party were not limited in the same way that contributions are to federal political candidates. The Clintons, drew heavily on contributions to the party to support the Clinton re-election campaign and later the Al Gore presidential campaign, just as Republican presidential candidates did with contributions to the GOP.
Lauer asked Clinton “if there's no such thing as ever being able to fully vet who you come in contact with, is it appropriate to make this kind of an attack on your opponent?”
But Clinton responded by pointing to the extensive relationship Rezko forged with Obama.
“There's a big difference between standing somewhere, taking a picture with someone you don't know and haven't seen since, and having a relationship that, you know, the newspapers in Chicago have been exploring,” Clinton said
Obama Communications Director Robert Gibbs said the photo of the Clintons and Rezko "reflects the fact that Mr. Rezko was clearly involved in a wide range of fund raising for both Democrats and Republicans."
Clinton spokesman Phil Singer noted that Rezko had not made contributions to any of Hillary Clinton's campaigns nor did he donate to Bill Clinton's presidential campaign.
"Tony Rezko has never contributed a dime to Hillary or Bill Clinton. They have no relationship with Tony Rezko," Singer said.
For years after Rezko befriended Obama in the early 1990s, he helped bankroll the politician's campaigns. Then, after Obama's election to the U.S. Senate, Rezko engaged him in private financial deals to improve their adjoining South Side properties. Those arrangements became a source of lingering controversy after the Tribune first reported them in November 2006.
Obama publicly apologized for his 2005 property deal with Rezko, calling it "boneheaded" because Rezko was widely reported to be under grand jury investigation at the time. Rezko has since been indicted on corruption charges unrelated to his relationship with Obama and is scheduled to go on trial on Feb. 25.
Obama has given to charities $85,000 in Rezko-linked campaign contributions, including $40,035 last weekend following a published report suggesting that Rezko funneled a $10,000 donation to Obama through a business associate. Aides to Obama say the senator had no knowledge of any such scheme.
Obama has been accused of no wrongdoing involving Rezko and has insisted that he never used his office to benefit Rezko.
Thus far, there is little in the public record to suggest otherwise, and the few exceptions that have come to light appear minor. On Capitol Hill, Obama once gave a summer internship to the son of a Rezko business associate on Rezko's recommendation. Earlier, as a state senator, Obama was one of several South Side political and community leaders who wrote state and city officials urging approval of public funding for a senior housing project involving Rezko.
But when Rezko pushed for passage in Springfield of a major gambling measure, Obama vocally opposed it.

Wow, talk about drive-by. Was Rezko a known crook when that picture was taken? How many pictures are there of Abramoff and Bush? Oh yeah, we don't know, the white house refuses to release them.
Still can't top the picture of Rummy shaking hands with Saddam Hussein. How many times has NBC shown that photo? None I bet. Same with the entire right-wing media.

I just couldn't be more disappointed in Clinton and Obama. I was obviously naive in thinking that we could have an election where the candidates stayed focused on issues and not get into all this other b.s. Edwards is getting my vote in the primary.

This is rich! I was wondering how long it would be before Billary would get caught up in this. And, we all know these photos come with a price. How can anyone still fall for the Clinton lies?
Posted by: George | January 25, 2008 11:49 AM
The next step for some enterprising reporter is to dig out how much money, if any, that Rezko has donated to the Clintons in the past.

BUSTED!!
I pray every day that the people of this country remember that the Clintons are completly full of it. Another four years with them will only remind everyone what we dealt with in the 90's.

Imagine that! The Clintons associating with a slimy individual. What a shock!!
I'm no fan of Obama, but the next time Hillbillary attacks him for his associations, all he has to do is pull out a laundry list that starts with Whitewater and "currently" ends with that Chinese businessman who was recently arrested.

This is what she gets for giving Obama flack about doing 5 hours of document review as an associate at a law firm on a case that happened to involve a Company owned by this guy.
I wonder if Obama even knew what the guy did. Obama was a law firm associate, which means he had zero control over the work he did and likely knew nothing about the background's of his firms' hundreds of clients.
The fact that Clinton keeps bringing this up makes me thing less and less of her. Be realistic, lady, and nail Obama on something substantive.

Say all you want, Clinton campaign staffers. You opened this door. Now your candidate gets to be thrown through it. Maybe it would be better to just shut up about Tony Rezko. Obama's financial ties to Rezko do not extend beyond the home purchase/side yard issue, and there is not enough there for this to be a real issue, as troubling as some aspects of that deal were. The point is that since it's not evidence of wrongdoing, and as Obama has returned the campaign money, all you have is his association with the guy, and now we have Billary in a photo associating with him. Yes, they are associating with him. Not just anybody gets to be pictured with Billary. Don't duck it. Trying to tar Obama further on the Rezko issue will only tar you as well as Obama, and further damage the party's chances in November, though it's hard to imagine how much more damage you could do, going back all the way to when you wouldn't leave the White House so that we could run an incumbent in 2000.
Just keep on doing what you are doing -- you are hurting the party in the long term so that you may be nominated in the short term. And this is coming from someone who doesn't entirely trust Obama -- you guys are turning a lot of us off, in a way that is going to give the GOP nominee a leg up.
Your time is done, gone. Step away and let the party and the country move forward.
Posted by: Harry Bosch | January 25, 2008 12:01 PM
It certainly doesn't look good, but this still isn't a letter writing campaign and a sweetheart house deal like Obama got from Rezko.
It looks like one of those posed pictures at a democratic party event where someone like Blago or Obama would sell big donors a ticket to a dinner where they could "meet the president and first lady and get your picture taken with them."
Or maybe it's from one of those times that Bill and Hill rented out the Lincoln bedroom.

Typical left wing loon post, the Clinton's get caught with a thief and somehow the post turns into an attic on Bush. You idiots are something to behold.
Posted by: Big Kielbasa | January 25, 2008 12:01 PM
Doh...
Hilarious. Only Hillary could have set herself up more idiotically than this with the over the top scripted attack on Obama during the debate.
I admit, this is hardly something worth knocking a candidate for and I imagine there ARE hundreds of thousands of photos of the Clintons with strangers, but this just adds to the embarassment of her campaign to date (which so far includes Obama's kindergarten essays, third-party attacks she orchestrates through others, DUIs for her campaign staffers, etc.).
I'd say this kind of makes her dramatic salvo during the debate a bit of a wash.
Let's gather our wits and please ensure she is not elected people...

A photo is not a 17-year relationship such as Obama's with Rezko. Did Rezko get the Clintons a discount on their home also? Any of Rezko's relatives get jobs with Clinton?

Typical Obama antics. Needs something to try and cause problems. His association with Rezko is well known. Trying to divert attention from that. How can someone in thier position know everyone they take a picture with. It must be several years old, look at Bill's hair it is still mostly dark. Come on y Obama you can do better than that!!!! the

Guilt by association. It's a well-known political standard that, until recently, didn't apply to Sen. Obama. To find out that a picture exists of the Clintons with Rezko is less than shocking. I was surprised that the Clintons would even bring up Rezko and Obama's ties to Cook County, since any corruption charge they throw at Obama only boomerangs back 10 times on them. Funny stuff.
Posted by: JB | January 25, 2008 12:16 PM
MJ, donors typically get to take their photo with the First Couple at fundraisers or "appreciation dinners". My parents have a similar photo with the 1st Bush prez & Barbara. No, I don't know that Rezko gave money to the Clintons, but knowing what we do of his many past contributions to various politicians, I would be surprised if he didn't give something.
Point is, she shouldn't be trying to throw that mud around.....it's ridiculous coming from her & Bill.
Posted by: Erik | January 25, 2008 12:18 PM
As long as we're pointing out hypocrisy...the comment that launched the "slumlord" discussion was Obama attacking Clinton on her being a corporate lawyer for Wal-Mart.
Obama's Wal-Mart cheap shot is especially interesting because Michelle "Pickles" Obama sat on the board of a food processing company that makes hundreds of millions of dollars off of Wal-Mart. Forgot that part, hey Obama?
While Pickles took home $50,000 a year plus stock options for showing up to a couple of meetings a year, the men and women on the pickle canning machine at Treehouse Foods make, what, $10 bucks an hour?
Obama is every bit as hypocritical as Clinton supposedly is, although I don't know whether Rezko got the Clintons a discount on their NY home like he did with Obama in Chicago.
Posted by: Robert John | January 25, 2008 12:18 PM
Bruce Y, I take it you live in some loony left fantasy world too? That Rumsfeld-Hussein photo has been shown all over the media for years now. Anyway, when that photo was taken, Iraq was a quasi-ally of the U.S. against Iran. Maybe you are not old enough to know or maybe you're just plain ignorant, but from the time of the Iranian hostage crisis, the U.S. supported Iraq over Iran.
Anyway, while not one to defend the Queen B, to show some photo is rather ridiculous. Politicians get their pics taken all over the place and with people from all over the place. Look at all the photos at Harry Caray's of politicians, actors, news media taken there and elsewhere.
If there is a financial connection, then we have a story. This photo is not one.
Posted by: John D | January 25, 2008 12:19 PM
A financial connection? Are you kidding ? How do you think you get those pictures ? A substantial donation to the Campaign or the DNC. That's how.
A better question to Clinton is what about Norman Hsu ? A convicted felon and fugitive at the time he was raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for Clinton, had his own Ponzi scheme going. Clinton even defended him at first before his fraudulent past was exposed. Rezko has been convicted of nothing, and just like Bill Clinton before his conviction for perjury in federal court, is entitled to a presumption of innocence.
Posted by: Clarence Darrow | January 25, 2008 12:19 PM
Oh Bruce, "right-wing media," that's rich. Please tell me you don't actually believe the media is softer on Bush than any other liberal. Please tell me you don't really think the media is biased toward conservatives. Better stick to what you know best, specifically those things that don't involve truth and reality.
Posted by: Mark | January 25, 2008 12:21 PM
Uh, big deal. One picture doesn't mean anything. As a matter of fact, I have a picture of Bill Clinton and my developer-friend too, back from 199-something, when Bill wasn't a President yet. I bet Bill doesn't remember taking this picture either. Big deal. That was a nice try though to make Hillary look bad. They really are fishing...
Posted by: George Bush | January 25, 2008 12:24 PM
Get real. I've taken photos with public figures who neither know my name or anything about me. If I turn out to be a crook are accountable. A photo that's at least eight years old does not equate to a 17-year, close, financial relationship.
Before Hillary mentioned Rezko, Swamp was perfectly content to never mention his name, even though Obama has had a long relationship with this crook. Rezko was one of his earliest backers and has raised tens of thousands of dollars for OBAMA HIMSELF - NOT THE DNC, Swamp. He built slums that housed those for whom Obama claimed to be a voice, and Obama even wrote letters of support enabling him to do so. He entered into a questionable real estate transaction with Obama (one which Obama his called boneheaded), and now Obama is lying about even knowing Rezko is under investigation at the time he had these dealings. Swamp was content to sweep all of that under the rug.
But then Hillary forced the issue out into the open after Obama sancitimoniously knocked her for serving on WalMart's Board. And now the best that Swamp and the MSM Obama apologists can uncover is a undated photo, one of thousands that politicians take all the time and a campaign contribution to the DNC, not even to Hillary OR BILL.
Post the many photos I'm sure exist of Rezko and the Obamas.
You know, even if Rezko had been a Clinton pal also, which he wasn't, that still does not detract from Obama's hypocritical "holier than thou" politics. After all, he's the one who's been canonized as great wonder who doesn't practice politics as usual, not the Clintons. If nothing else he should return his halo.

How can the author claim that there is no evidence against Obama helping REzko. I would say using your influence as a Sen and writing a letter in order to help Rezko's co' receive $14,000,0000 is pretty strong evidence. Woudlnt you? Also somehow miraculously Obama paid $300,000 under the asking price for his home at the same time Rezko bought the adjoining property for over the asking price. I bet Dorning will write that off as a coincidence. Also I love Eric ZOrn claiming it is very common for people to pay under the asking price. However not mentioning that a $300,000 drop in price is not very normal. Clearly Dorning is an Obama supporter like most swamp writers and this is just a ploy to try and spin it into Obamas favor. IN reality however if you can prove that HIllary helped Rezko get gov business like Obama, how Hilary and Rezko had private real estate deals together like Obama did, and how Hillary expanded her land with the help of Rezko like obama. There is a huge diff between taking a pic with someoen and having a shady business relationship with someone who basically is your number 1 financial supporter. Obama is a cook county democrat in the worst sense of the word.

Maybe the country will get lucky and the piles of cash and fear-mongering the Clintons use to control the media will stop being effective and they'll finally do their jobs as news reporters.
Maybe I'm just wishful thinking.

Am I the only one who remembers this is the exact same excuse President Bush used to explain away the photograph of him with Jack Abramoff? Come on, people. We know the truth. Bush knew/benefitted from Abramoff, and the Clintons knew and benefitted from Rezko and the contributions that his "slum landlord business in inner-city Chicago" allowed him to donate to the Democratic Party under the Clintons' leadership. What's good for the gander is good for the goose, Hillary.

I used to be a Hillary supporter and the thought of a woman President could change the American landscape (WAIT!) but the Clinton's tactics are typical American Foli-tics and belong in the decades of years gone by. The candidate who I have moved towards is Obama who seems to have the honesty to ask the American people what they want and the integrity to admit if he makes a mistake. Something Billary has never done. Obama 08

This is hillarious! The only dirt she can come up with against Obama and she's smiling like she just won the lottery standing next to Rezko. Just some random photo huh Hillary?? It's nice when dirty politics backfire. It's sad that in politics, it's not how good you are, it's how much can you discredit the next guy. We should all be better than this.

A big part of Obama’s contrived sainthood is that he is somehow "above" or "different" from the Washington establishment that is supposedly Clinton.
In reality, Obama very quickly wove his senatorship into the web of institutionalized influence-trading that afflicts official Washington. He quickly established a political machine funded and run by a standard Beltway group of lobbyists, P.R. consultants, and hangers-on.
For the staff post of policy director he hired Karen Kornbluh, a senior aide to Robert Rubin when the latter, as head of the Treasury Department under Bill Clinton, was a chief advocate for NAFTA and other free-trade policies that decimated the nation’s manufacturing sector (and the organized labor wing of the Democratic Party).
Obama’s top contributors are corporate law and lobbying firms (Kirkland & Ellis and Skadden, Arps, where four attorneys are fund-raisers for Obama as well as donors), Wall Street financial houses (Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan Chase), and big Chicago interests (Henry Crown and Company, an investment firm that has stakes in industries ranging from telecommunications to defense).
After being elected, Obama immediately established a “leadership PAC,” a vehicle through which a member of Congress can contribute to other politicians’ campaigns—and one that political reform groups generally view as a slush fund through which congressional leaders can evade campaign-finance rules while raising their own political profiles.
As John Kass said in the Chicago Tribune last week, "As we wait for Obama to transform our politics, let's hold our breath and see who turns purple first."

To the few pathetic souls here who think that this tars the Clintons and/or clears Obama, I'm about to rain on your parade:
Obama has a very long financial relationship with Tony Rezko. Clinton doesn't.
And some folks here have conveniently forgotten that it was Obama who dragged this campaign into the sewer to begin with.
PS: There seems to be 2 very different "Jeffs" posting here.

Seriously? Is this all the Obama camp can come up with? I have a picture with Hillary and I'm a Republican. She has no idea who I am much less who this Rezko guy is.
Face it Obama supporters. He isn't the golden boy you think he is. The only reason he doesn't have more scandals is because he hasn't been a national politician as long as the Clintons.
The Rezko deal is bad. Even my Democrat husband is willing to acknowledge it. Obama is no different than any other politician but he's somehow managed to snowjob a lot of Democrats into thinking he is.
Of course he took money from Rezko because it helped him get elected. And of course he did a deal with him to make money on his house. He's looking out for himself.
And of course his wife took a massive pay raise at the U of C after her husband became senator. They're politicians...this is what they do. To think otherwise is naive.

Clinton supporters don't see the big deal. They can't believe it. Just like they don't believe voters in the general will remember the unseemly side of the Clinton Years. Just like they don't believe attacks on Obama are alienating half of the democratic party. Just like they don't believe the vote was for the war.Just like they don't believe people remember Hillary saying young people think "work" is a four-letter word.
The rest of us, meanwhile, can't believe what we're seeing.
Methinks Hillary needs a reality check.

It is so sad that Obama supporters can even make an arguement about this. Then again they do think by saying "present" you stand for something.

If you are going to point out a fake hypocracy with the Clintons why not call Obama out on his. Oh thats right I forgot that would not coincide with your objevtive to get Obama elected. Obama is a fraud and is going to lose once they get to the other states. Unless every other state has a majority of black voters like SC, Obama is going to lose.

Wow, as handled by finessers like Obama and Bush? Telling everyone that everything is ok so they do have to CHANGE anything (except get a copyright on the actual word 'change'?)
Obama is a Republican in Democrat clothing. The reason so many are agonizing as to whether he is 'black' enough is because - he isn't.
Or humanitarian enough, or experienced enough, or even present enough for the job he currently holds.

Before anyone gets all upset about this, whether you're in Clinton's or Obama's camp, if you have every gone to a dinner where a prominent politician is the keynote speaker, you can have your picture taken with said politician. So Rezko paid X amount of dollars to attend a dinner where the Clintons were and had his picture taken. So what? The question to ask is: did he give a large amount of money to the Clintons for any special interest? Geez, I consider myself a liberal Democrat, but I had my picture taken with Colin Powell a few years back. I am sure any spin doctor could create a stupid and senseless story out of that! And if you asked Powell if he remembered having his picture taken with me, I can pretty much guarantee you what his answer would be!
Posted by: Janstress | January 25, 2008 2:12 PM
During a presidential debate Monday evening, Clinton blasted Obama for his relationship with Rezko, telling Obama she had fought Republican policies as first lady while "you were practicing law and representing your contributor, Rezko, in his slum landlord business in inner-city Chicago."
TWO, no make that THREE POINTS:
1. Clinton seems to forget that prosecutorial zeal doesn't mean conviction.
2. Did Rezko ever give any money to the Clinton campaign(s)?
This latter point may be the tipping point. If Rezko gave to Hill/Bill, then any attacks on Obama are plain hypocritical.
3. What about that guy that Bill pardon - Marc Rich?
The hypocrisies oozing from the Hill/Bill camp are amazing ("Am I the only one in the United States of America who likes both George W. Bush and John Kerry?" BC 11/04).

This picture doesn't surprise me one at all. Why aren't the Obama people bringing out the Dubai connection with the Clintons? I can't believe the people of this country are that naive to think that the Clintons will be different than what they were in the 90's. That alone should remind you of what a wasted vote it would be. I wish there were an alternative candidate. I like Obama and will vote for him, but it would be nice if there was one more person out there to represent the Independent Vote! (And I don't mean Michael Boomberg either.)

How does that imply that they knew he was a shady character involved in illegal dealings, and despite that took his contributions in exchange for political favors?
It doesn't, and there is no issue.

Unfortunately, every politician likely has ties, in one way or another, to unseemly people. That said, considering the extensive ties that Clinton has to corrupt people (Hsu, McAuliffe, Rezko)is it really appropriate for her to make it an issue?
Posted by: Sarah L, Fayetteville, AR | January 25, 2008 2:31 PM
If any of you know anything about politics, photos such as these are taken at every fund raiser. I'm sure many contributors have had their picture taken with Barack - he could not name everyone of them if he was asked to. I have photos with many politicians from many fund raisers I attended. I would never in a million years expect these people to know who I am or if I am a corrupt individual. Use some common sense out there.

Why are the Clintons making such a big deal out of this when one of their main donors, Norman Hsu was indicted a few weeks ago? And why are being given a free pass on this (and their legions of shady donors who slept in the Lincoln bedroom). Since Hillary wants credit for her time in the White House, then she need to bear culpability for the financial shenanigans of that time as well.

You do have to give Clinton credit for keeping the focus on Rezko, she has a lot more to worry about with her major fundraiser Norman Hsu, who has already been sent to jail. I don't believe the Clinton campaign has donated or returned the monies he raised either.

Clinton and Obama show their true colors. Do we really want Jerry Springer behavior in the White House? Can you imagine these squabbling babies negotiating with foreign leaders.

Obama is no better, rezko has contributed over $85,000 to Obama, and got him a price-break on his home; they have had a 17 year relationship.
Obama has done nothing since being an elected official;he voted "present" 150 times while in the Illinois senate, way to make a stand and cast a vote for your constituents! he has been absent 60% of the time since elected a U.S. Senator, wow! he brings such rich experience to the people, how anyone thinks he is ready for the White House is beyond me..
Vote GOP!

Now you know how Nike feels after having Michael Vick promote it's products. In the infamous words of Donald Rumsfeld:
"Reports that say that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns -- the ones we don't know we don't know."

Opps.
Obvisouly this is taken at a fundraiser and the Clintons have no idea who they're posing with.
The bigger issue is campaign financing. With so much money in the system, at some point everyone's had a Rezko or Hsu on their donor list.
Rather than fling mud, maybe it's time Clinton and Obama start talking about finance reform so we can keep the big money out of the process.

Snalg, you are incorrect. Plenty of folks (all Clinton cronies) went to jail over Whitewater. The truth is because Clinton was president, there wasn't enough on him and their role to bring a sitting president to trial. The fact is prosecutors found lots wrong about the Clintons and did not absolve them of any crimes, just not enough to make a case for a jury. Big difference.

For “We the People” it’s a real sad time that our election process has proven to be a sham. I personally know the Clintons (and Bush’s and others) are involved in a huge Federal Criminal System that is being artificially protected for those involved. How I know may interest you…..
I was in a family for more than 26 years who joined a huge criminal system when I first married. Their job within this group is to launder “Drug and Gun Running” money straight into property using Mortgage fraud with Big Banks. The Clintons, Bush Family and others are directly involved in this system. It makes what was happening in Mena while Bill Clinton was Governor a child’s toy. Plus, Clyde O’Connor who was an owner/pilot of one of the Drug jet planes that was busted last year carrying TON's of Cocaine happens to be my ex-sister-in-law’s brother. Everyone on the Internet is looking for the “money man” behind Clyde and I know for fact he is my ex-sister-in-law’s husband, my ex-brother-in-law. Please note that the “Gun Running” part has already been in the news with Chiquita and Drummond however what many don’t know is that both of these companies plus others also are/were shipping in huge amounts of drugs. In the 90’s, Chicago alone was getting a weekly $100 Million dollar shipment of drugs that was split up with Florida and New York as well. That amounts to more than $5 Billion per year and there were other huge weekly shipments going elsewhere! Guess who has been feeding our kids cocaine for all these years! You’ll be shocked to know what the money is being used for and who all is involved!
As far as Rezko, this is personal for me as I fear that my youngest son is linked in with Rezko’s illegal activities. The Federal Criminal system that the Clintons are part of, are blocking everyone from surfacing the real truth with the crimes involved.
Hillary and Bill opened the wrong closet this time!!
A friend of mine with another past experience and I would be willing to help Obama if he needs it. This could be something we are all looking for.

The Republicans are the only ones who benefit from this whole kerfluffle. It isn't so much about Obama or Clinton's character as it is about miscreants such as Rezko who insinuate themselves with the powerful to try in insulate themselves from official scrutiny. From what has been reported, it seems to have been a one-way transaction - Rezko has given political money, but what has he gotten in return? An 8x10? A handshake? And now - several federal indictments - with no political protection. Hilary's handlers shouldn't give the Republican's any more help - there is no substance here, but like Swiftboat, you can't explain it away in a soundbite, and through repetition it will take on a life of its own.

All the talk about how rough the Democratic presidential race is becoming is absurd. Considering that Hillary Rodham Clinton is running to restore the personalities and policies of the 1990s to the White House, it is astonishing how gentle the debate has been.
Imagine if at the next presidential debate Barack Obama — who is agitated about what he calls Bill Clinton’s misleading criticisms — cocked his head, smiled ruefully and, in Reaganesque “there you go again” tones, said something like this to Hillary Clinton: “You know, I admired some aspects of Bill Clinton’s presidency. But let’s recall that it was precisely these sort of too-cute-by-half statements that caused him to be reprimanded by a federal judge and stripped of his law license. Senator, you may want to go back to those days and that style of politics, but I think most Americans are ready to move on.”
Had you forgotten that Bill Clinton voluntarily agreed in the closing hours of his presidency to be disbarred and pay a sizable fine in the fallout from the Monica Lewinsky scandal?
No doubt most Democrats have forgotten — which is testament to both Clintons’ indefatigable talent for framing political debates on their terms, rather than those of their opponents.
Obama’s strategists would probably say that engaging a popular former president in such a direct manner might backfire. But recent days would suggest that Obama’s alternative is also backfiring.
He has wandered into a tactical battle — over who is behind what radio ads or robocalls, or over the correct interpretation of stray quotes — with the best tactical politicians in the business.

Hillary had a relationship with Walmart. Hillary did'nt Pass the bar exam in NY. The Clintons left Carl Hubble out to hang. If Hillary would have turned in documents concerning Whitewater or The National Travel Office, there would be no Ken Starr. And what about Norman Hsu? The picture cost monet to take--Rezko paid it. Rezko contributed to Bill Clinton's re-election campaign. At a Clinton funraiser for the DNC, Rezko donated $15,000. Hilarity and Slick Willie have some explaining to do. He bought a property from one of his companies over 10 years later.
Meanwhile, who did Hillary represent as a corporate lawyer?

Rezko co-defendant donated to Clinton supporter Rendell
Tony Rezko ... popped up prominently into the national political discussion only this week when during a heated exchange in a South Carolina Democratic debate Hillary Clinton accused Barack Obama of having been lawyer for the "slum landlord" Rezko. ...
But big as the country is, its politics is also a small world. So when former Philadelphia mayor and Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell endorsed Clinton earlier this week, some folks wondered if Rezko had helped Rendell. Sure enough, the New York Times found that when Rendell was also head of the Democratic National Committee in 2000, Rezko delivered $15,000 to the national party.
Although there is no known direct Rezko donation to Rendell, a review of the governor''s campaign finance reports by The Times'' intrepid campaign finance expert Dan Morain does reveal a definite connection. Back in September of 2005 Rendell took $1,000 from Ali D. Ata of Lemont, Ill.
Now who, you might ask, is Ali D. Ata? He turns out to be a Rezko co-defendant in one of the federal indictments pending in Chicago. The government alleges that in February 2004, Ata, then executive director of the Illinois Finance Authority, signed a letter that helped Rezko fraudulently obtain a multi-million dollar loan. ...

Prove the picture's not fake? Hillary didn't have the benefit to see the picture when Matt Lauer showed it to the Today show audience. I wish she would have saw it with the TV audience. We haven't had a 'Deer in the Headlights' moment yet, and it would have been fun to see the expression on Hilarity's face, and to see how she talks out of it. Oh yeah, she's trying to do that now.

Since when does meeting someone "17" years ago equal a "relationship." Sen. Obama himself called it a "boneheaded" move. At least he admits he used poor judgment. Sen. Clinton hasn't come close to apologizing about any of her boneheaded associations with the likes of Hsu, Whitewater....etc. I'm not surprised the Sen. Clinton supporters want to make a big deal out of the Rezko's association with Sen. Obama. Just like Sen. Clinton, they inflate everything! Spinning words (like "35" years of experience) are the Clinton's calling card. I am so sick of her outright distortions of the truth and her vicious attacks on Obama. Yes, it's clear that she will do anything to get elected. Is this really the person you would like to be our next president? And just why are we listening to former President Clinton anway? Didn't he look us right in the eye and say "I DID NOT HAVE SEXUAL RELATIONS WITH THAT WOMAN!" How soon we forget!

Hee hee hee...I just LOVE the way Hillary hangs herself with her own tongue. I'd say she's at a strategic impasse, how do you sling mud and allege wrongdoing when you're by far and away the BIGGEST offender yourself? Her and Slick Willy wrote the BOOK on sleazy, back room illegal deals. And let's not forget the insider trading, sales of sensitive technology for campaign cash (could be considered Treason), money laundering, and don't forget the laundry list of "Sexual" offenses committed by slick Willy over a period of about twenty years. I just hope the Obama gives up the high ground and lets the B#&%h have what she wants. when it comes to checkered pasts and skeletons in the closet it isn't even a fair fight. Obama can beat her to DEATH, literally chew her up and spit her out, and frankly I admire his restraint to this point especially considering what a soft target her history and background really are. Yes when it comes to integrity I think the difference is night and day. Gonna be a long hard year for Hilly N Willy.

As per usual, Hillary is full of it. If she wins the Dem nomination, I will find it in my heart to vote for anyone else. Rudy seems honest by comparison. She is George W. Bush lite. Same political gamesmanship. Same precedent for lying to the American people. I wouldn't call her a step backwards, because how could things be worse than they are now? But it is approval of the status quo. A vote for Hillary is a vote for "four more years." Corporations before citizens. Corruption before truth.

What a short memory people have. When the Clintons were in power they cleaned up the mess of Reagon/Bush and brought back the middle class, even while fighting off the rebublican witch hunt of white water. Now as far as the "liberal media" all you have to look at is the way Bush was treated Bushes CRIMES to the 24/7 treament of the witch hunts. Now it's happening again with the attacks on Hillary. For Obama supporters, watch how the MSM attacks Obama if he gets the nomination. They will help Obama become the slime machine's Osama Bin Obama. The Muslem connection will bring him done. Do you really want four more years of republcan rule?

I just wanted to say with all the smart, intelligent people in America and MSNBC it surprises me that anyone would fall for such a planted photo. Matt Lauer at MSNBC, are these the same fools who the Virginia Tech killer used to spread his message of hate. They never learn. Okay, let me state the obvious and remind everyone to use their common sense. Most of us have taken photos with celebrities or vips where ever it may be. Who is the photo most important to? You or the party "you eagerly" wanted to take the photo with? Tell the truth now ....this isn't an Obama or Hillary question. So you would be the only person that would find value in such a photo. So put yourself in the place of Rezko in this Clinton photo, why would the Clintons care they are the celebrities in this photo? Conclusion, the photo belongs to Rezko or one of his family members or one of his "buddies" who conveniently planted the photo a day before the South Carolina primary. MSNBC you sure do enjoy being used don't you???Obama the Oreo 08

Clinton should be slammed for her personal attacks. She has been focusing on them rather than the issues. She much rather keep the government running status quo and proves it by using the same Swiftboat maneuvers as her counterparts did in '04.
Do we really want a country that has been ruled by the same 2 families for 24 years? Sounds like a monarchy to me.

How could the "White House" capture all of the negatives of all of the pictures of the President with Abramoff or anyone else for that matter.
Second, if no media outlets have reported on the calls for impeachment, then how the heck do you know about them? Are you a staffer in Congress? I would bet that everyone that has posted here knows of the calls for impeachment. And if you believe in a right wing media, I guess you believed Hillary's lie that all of the accusations of Bill's infidelity (with Monica) were a "vast right wing conspiracy and a pack of lies". I saw her as did most spew this out on all off the am news programs and it now has been admitted that she was aware of the truth at that time. You might just belong on the left wing whacko hall of fame!

bruce y - Don't you think that almost all pictures of political figures are taken by journalist/media photographers having nothing to do with the White House? How can the White House suppress a photo when it belongs to someone in the public domain -- they can't.
As for your diatribe about the Rumsfeld/Hussein photo, that was taken in 1983 when Rumsfeld was a poltical attache representing the president on an official visit to Bagdad upon the U.S. "normalizing" relations with Iraq. Perhaps you don't remember that Iran and Iraq had a brutal war (yes, chemical warfare was used - a weapon of mass destructon)in that era following Iran's holding of over 100 US citizens and diplomats for 444 days ending in 1980. So we backed the Iraqis in that era 24 years ago. Of course that was after we backed the Iranians (The Shah's regime before Khomeni).
Notably, the picture you reference is of a political appointee doing was he was asked to do in the normal course of his goverment position, not posing because he either thought highly of Saddam or liked him or took money from him. I fail to see any parallel.
As for calls for impeachment, how do we all know about them if the media hasn't reported on them? You say that the media should "call for impeachment" -- that's not the media's role. They are supposed to report the news, not be advocates of any position, philosophy, etc. Granted, they still stray from objectivity, but that's part of what gets in the way of people reading and interpretting facts for themselves.
As for flat out lying, how about your beloved Hillary appearing on national TV (all three network morning news shows) and proclaiming that the accusations of Bill's infidelity with Monica was a "vast right wing conspiracy". It later was admitted that she knew of the "affair" before she made those appearances and statements. We aren't seeing the media dredge up those ugly facts are we? (and I don't think they're particularly relevant now anyway)
I am not an Obama supporter, nor an Edwards supporter. In fact, at the moment it's hard to get at all excited about candidates from either party. So please don't paint me with your broad brush as having an agenda. I merely think that, like politicians, bloggers should include the context for their positions or points.

OK, let me see if I have this right. A photo of Bush and Aberrmoff is grounds for impeachment, but a photo of Bill and Hillary with the "slumlord" is innocent?
Isn't this a double standard?

MICHELLE OBAMA IS A WALMART CONSULTANT.
ENOUGH SAID. HYPOCRITES!

"But big as the country is, its politics is also a small world.
Ata of Lemont, Ill."
Martin Edwin "Mick" Andersen
What's your point? The MSM dug like hell to try to protect Obama, and all they found was a Clinton supporter - not Clinton herself mind you - received a $1,000 donation from someone who knows Rezko? I'm guessing this reporter offered no information on how much this "codefendant" gave to Obama - DIRECTLY. That would have been interesting information, but information the MSM will suppress.
You have to love this Obama slimeball and his supporters, including media. Months ago he and his minions worked behind the scenes to get the media to highlight Norman Hsu. He tried to do it while keeping his fingerprints off the matter. But the media ultimately fessed up that Obama's camp was indeed pushing the story. Hillary, on the other hand, forthrightly put Rezko out there after Obama tried to sling WalMart mud at her, since Lord knows the MSM wasn't about to. At least she didn't take the sneaky route this guy did.
If only the mainstream media spent as much time vetting this guy as they do trying to prop him up at all costs. I mean, "Hillary knows a guy who got a contribution from a guy who knows the guy Obama was in cohoots with. So she's just as guilty as Obama, and this mitigates Obama's misdeeds".
What a joke! Sadly, I don't think I can bring myself to vote for this guy if he gets the nomination. This primary season has turned ridiculous.

I am a Republican but I'm rooting for Hillary. I would like her to win using the win-at-all-cost tactics that the Clintons are known for. Nothing else will galvanize us than a Clinton victory on the Democratic side. Our toughest opponent would have been Edwards but I am delighted that he does not stand a chance.
Also, I would like to see the N.Y. Mayor, Blumberg, get involved as well as to split the Democratic vote.
Moreover, I would like to see more subtle and reckless statements from Billary about African-Americans to alienate African-American voters. In this way, McCain wins hands down. Go McCain!!!

This is lame. If this all OBAMA campaign can do, they will lose for sure.

No report on Norman Hsu, Hillary's contributor who bundled $850,000.00 toward her campaign?

Following the Dan Rather "forged document", which nonetheless was factual, I don't think NBC would have feature this damming evidence of the slickers and the "Slum-Lord" together.

Plus, Clyde O’Connor who was an owner/pilot of one of the Drug jet planes carrying TON’s of Cocaine that was busted last year happens to be my ex-sister-in-law’s brother.

Obamabot,
I guess if you don't like the real facts you just make up your own, right?
The Clintons did not know the slum lord. Obama did.
The Clintons did not accept money form the slum lord. Obama did.

MJ,
See how easy it is. Thank you for helping make a very serious point. Politicians lie, people lie for Politicians, and the press doesn't ask the hard questions to "ALL" the Presidential candidates.
I don't care about the photo, even the money. What I do care about are the lies, and the amount of PRESS, Sen. Clintons husband is getting.

This is ridiculous. As even Pat Buchanan has pointed out, candidates stand in a room while a slew of supporters troop through for pictures. They have hundreds of these taken every year. (Heck, my brother is a Republican and he has a picture just like this one). This means nothing. Rezko is not a major donor for the Clintons nor did he help them buy a house AFTER he was under investigation for corruption.
As for Norman Hsu, he donated to a lot of Democrats, including Obama, but there is absolutely no evidence of any close personal relationship with the Clintons. Every candidate out there has some donors who are less than clean, but that is no reflection on them. That is a reflection on us Americans who are too short-sighted to insist on publicly funded elections and cheap television ad rates. If we really care about this we will stop blaming the candidates and start fighting against money in elections.
As for Obama and Rezko, his willingness to allow a man UNDER INVESTIGATION FOR CORRUPTION (the main problem) to help him buy his house raises big question mark about his judgement and his hubris. Obama even denied knowledge of the investigation when he was first asked. He seems to think that he can do what he likes and still be above reproach. The way the media is treating him with kid gloves, he just may be right.

Matt Lauer had a knucklehead move. Hilary had a great and truthful answer back. He must have been playing to the uneducated voter. The president and 1st lady take a lot of pictures. What does that picture have anything to compare with Obama having a relationship with Rezko. I was extremely disappointed in Matt Lauer. He might as well be a tabloid reporter trying to make a juicy story out of nothing. I lost a lot of respect for him as a reporter as I'm sure a lot of other people did as well.

The White House DOES have a staff photographer. It is these photos they are withholding. As for other comments made by others about my post, my only point is that one photo of Hillary and Rezko means nothing. Show me five more. Show me evidence of an actual conversation between them.

Possibly he was one of the thousands of people that the Clintons rented out the Lincoln bedroom to over the course of their 8 years in the white house.

Rezko's attorney, until recently, was Myron "Mike" Cherry - a long time big money "bundler" for the Clintons. Cherry and the Clintons also have mutual connections through IPA, the firm against which the EEOC has filed sexual discriminstion complaint.
It all smells fishy and, probably goes bsck to the Clintons' dirty tricks!

Ben said: A photo is not a 17-year relationship such as Obama's with Rezko. Did Rezko get the Clintons a discount on their home also? Any of Rezko's relatives get jobs with Clinton?
This means nothing.

We all know that the Hillary Clinton political campaign is closely scripted and the daily press releases reflect the Clinton dodge ball concept of political strategy and their innate ability to get away with their tactics they believe to be if not high impact at least necessary.
The Clintons' battle is of course personalized to attack Barrack Oboma from every conceivable direction and somehow they know that Oboma cannot respond to all of their escalating attack points and therefore he will slowly but surely seem to be inadequate to the task of being the Democrats Presidential Candidate and succumb to their terror tactics.
The Clinton machine has many assets including Bill. He can say or do anything in behalf of the Clinton machine including raising money for his foundation from foreign interests whose names he refuses to release to the Federal Govt. and whose objectives oppose our laws and interests. Seems like the same old Bill to me.
