COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Bobby "Mr. World Series" Richardson, who spent 11 years with the Yankees, has endorsed Gov. Mike Huckabee's presidential bid.
The news of a largely-forgotten and statistically mediocre infielder hitter from yesteryear – Richardson played from '55 - '66 – wouldn't usually mean to a campaign's roster, but Richarson's life after baseball makes him a great, uh, catch for Huckabee in South Carolina.
Richardson, who was born in Sumter, S.C., became a born-again Christian later in life and was the baseball coach for many years at Liberty University, the Virginia school founded by the late televangelist Jerry Falwell. Richardson is well known in the South Carolina evangelical community, often speaking at churches -- a fact that could prove critical for Huckabee come Saturday's primary here.
"As someone who always wore the number 1 on my jersey, I am here to let everyone know that Mike Huckabee is truly Number 1. I hope voters all across South Carolina hit a homerun on January 19th by voting for Mike Huckabee in the South Carolina Republican Primary," Richardson said in a statement.
It's a good quote, but perhaps not as clever as the most famous one about Richardson made by his manager Casey Stengel:
"Look at him. He don't drink, he don't smoke, he don't chew, he don't stay out too late, and he still don't hit .250!"

I wonder which one will be offered the
'Minister of Thumb Screw and Xtian Reconciliation' cabinet post?
An American Inquisition; who could have predicted?

Bobby Richardson? Largely-forgotten and statistically mediocre??
Att: Mr. Jason "Dont call me Costanza" George: Not everyone is a Star Wars or Trekkie geek; us baseball trivia dorks have been around a heckuva lot longer than the Space Age. He wasnt called "Mr. World Series" for being a 2nd stringer on the Chicago White Sox you know...
However....
"As someone who always wore the number 1 on my jersey...."
Now I always figured Bobby Richardson to be a Republican. Why? Because he is born-again? Nah, he has trouble with the truth.
This lifetime .264 hitter (sorry, Casey, he batted over .300 in 2 seasons) wore numbers 17 and 29 his first 3 seasons because Billy Martin wore #1.
*I hope voters all across South Carolina hit a homerun on January 19th by voting for Mike Huckabee"
Also, everyone knows you hit a home run every time you eat Oscar Meyer far-free bologna..The Official Bologna of the Carolina Mud-Cats.
not Mike Huckabee.
As Yogi Berra would say: You can look it up.

The Republicans can't seem to get a celebrity endorsement from someone who hasn't been washed up for at least 20 years...and that includes Grandpa Fred.

He's got to ask for applause?

Great endorsement for a great candidate!
We love Mike Huckabee too!

There is something you guys who recently commented are forgetting. This is not about celebrity endorsements from who's who. Mike's endorsements are not paid for with flaunting monies. Mike's endorsements are the god honest pledges of true Americans. This is about people standing up for a man who is going to change America.
I just watched Governor Huckabees speech after the Michigan Primary. Wow. I have never seen a more compassionate, caring man that loves America and her people as much as he does. If you have time, please watch it. He is what America is about.

It is said that we "judge others by the company they keep"! It appears that Mike Huckabee is surrounded by some pretty nice folks who believe in his candidacy for President of the United States. Yes, Bobby Richardson did bat over .300 in at least 2 seasons, but, he was really known for his fielding expertise as well. Good endorsement, Mike, and we know you keep pretty good company. Go Huckabee!

God bless Mike Huckabee

It is sad desperate Fred Thompson is attempting to hide his weak accomplishments and old age by expressing himself forcefully against Huckabee!

Huckabee has made more progress with almost no resources than any candidate I can remember.
Fred Thompson is probably a little too used to life as an actor when he has a couple of moments of "Action!" and then goes back to his trailer for a couple of hours while they set up the next scene. He wakes up from hibernation just before (some of) the debates, attacks someone or looks for a one-liner and then goes back into the woods.

Richardson is a seven-time All-Star and the 1960 World Series MVP won five Gold Gloves and three World Series rings while starring at Second Base for the New York Yankees.

How come nobody asks me who I endorse? Oh, wait. I'm just a voter. That doesn't count.

The lengths that the media will go to belittle not only Mike Huckabee, but also those who support him is amazing. I grew up in the New York City area in the 1950s and was a big Yankee fan. Bobby Richardson was a great player. He was to the Yankees of the late 50s and early 60s what Phil Rizzuto had been before: their sparkplug. Bobby always came through in the clutch. Casey Stengel referred to him and his double-play partner, Tony Kubek, as my "milk shake boys" because they were clean living in a clubhouse full of tough guys. Mickey Mantle loved Bobby Richardson, who spoke at Mantle's funeral in 1995. The name of Bobby Richardson still thrills the hearts of millions of Yankee fans who remember that wonderful era.

FRANKLY, A VOTE FOR FRED THOMPSON IS A WASTED VOTE. HE'S SO LAZY, BY JULY HE WOULDN'T EVEN WANT TO CAMPAIGN. IT WOULD BE A VERY EASY WIN FOR THE DEMOCRATS. WE NEED A GIUY WITH VISION AND ENERGY. WE NEED MIKE HUCKABEE

Huckabee is SCARY.
"I believe it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living God," Huckabee said Monday night in Warren, Mich. "And that's what we need to do, is to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards, rather than try to change God's standards.
He will change the Constitution to suit his believe in the bible and force his way on every one in this country. What happen to separation of church and state? Pretending to preach sermons to congregations for campaign purpose is unethical.

I thank you Mike, for standing proud for God.
What can I do for you?
