COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa -- As Sen. Barack Obama travels along the Missouri River this evening, from Sioux City to Council Bluffs, he is being introduced by Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, someone the Illinois Democrat says is a leader in "one of the reddest states."
Kaine received help in his 2005 election bid from Obama. Now, he is returning the favor as Obama campaigns in some of Iowa's more independent and Republican areas. The governor is selling Obama as someone who could win a general election in the fall.
"If he were our candidate, we could get the 13 electoral votes in Virginia," Kaine said in Sioux City. "We could put the Virginia votes -- and other state's votes -- in the Democratic column and win this race. Virginia is a red state, but we've got a lot of independents and a lot of moderate Republicans who don't like what the Republican Party is doing."

I'm from VA and I think that Kaine and Obama are both great men. I would be thrilled to turn VA blue with a strong candidate like Obama. I'm pretty sure enough people here dislike Hillary enough to make sure she'll never be able to accomplish that. Edwards didn't seem to fare very well here in 2004 as the VP ether. With Kaine, and Warner, and Webb all supporting Obama, I really think we could make some more history together!
