Will Kerry embrace help Obama? Maybe: The Swamp

The Swamp

It isn't really a big surprise that Sen. John Kerry is endorsing Sen. Barack Obama.

It was Kerry, of course, who placed Obama in the national spotlight at the 2004 Democratic National Convention by choosing the senator from Illinois to give the keynote speech.

That speech, with a vision of a unified nation that eschewed partisanship, won wide acclaim and helped to make Obama one of the nation's biggest celebrity politicians.

Kerry has expressed pride in tapping Obama for that convention role. So it logically flows that he's now trying to help Obama get to the next level by trying to be a kingmaker.

It's hard to know how much the endorsement will help Obama. Kerry does have fans in the Democratic party. He has a huge database of names and e-mails from the 2004 campaign, so that should certainly help in the Obama campaign's fund-raising and grass-roots organizing efforts.

But many of those former Kerry supporters are probably now committed to Sen. Hillary Clinton,. How many of them will be swayed by Kerry, who knows?

Also, a lot of Democrats are ambivalent to downright dismissive of Kerry, seeing him as a weak nominee who was unable to defeat an unpopular President Bush, who was gaffe prone, and who waited too long to counter the Republican swift-boating of his Vietnam war record.

Still, usually it's a net plus to get the support of a leader of the party, indeed, the party's last national leader during the previous general election. So Obama will take it, especially since it may make the difference if the race remains close.

John Kerry's endorsement means nothing.
If a candidate gets a Chamber of Commerce or Labor endorsement from known entities it helps because they supply precinct workers, cash etc.
But, personal endorsements are not transferable as voters dismiss these out of hand.
Kerry lost his endorsement means nothing.
Not only that he is so mean spirited that people shrug him off. Jerry White, Springfield, IL

The same media people who assured us of the Obama landslide in New Hampshire are now pontificating about the Kerry endorsement and its effect on voters.

It takes some chutzpah for reporters to keep predicting things after their recent predictions have been proven so wrong.

As usual, Frank has his facts wrong. In 2004, Bush was NOT an unpopular president. He wasn't the most popular, but he wasn't unpopular. His approval rastings were around 50 percent.
Frank, is it possible for you to report honestly and without bias?

There are many within the Democratic party, myself included, who are not willing to support Hillary for a lot of reasons.

I view Kerry's support for Obama as a positive.

Given the animosity toward Hillary, how can it hurt him?

Who really cares?

I agree with Frank that Bush was unpopular even back in 2004. War had been always the best tool to unite a country if you looked at the human history. But Bush started a wrong war. That's how he got only 50%, and the rate dropped ever since.

I am a lifelong Democrat with a negative view of Hillary... so much so that I will likely vote against her in the general election if she gets the nomination (sorry, but it's true).

That said, only John Kerry is as divisive, polarizing and, frankly, as weak as Hillary and this endorsement will likely hurt Obama (I mean, c'mon, the guy couldn't even stand up for himself and defeat an unpopular incumbent in '04).

So what is someone like me to do? Vote with a party that I feel has abandoned me by offering me only two, unqualified candidates by the time I vote in a primary?

We Need Another Option!!!

Again, why didn't Kerry just poison Obama? It would've done less damage to his campaign.

I care. And l think it is a good thing for Barack Obama to get this endorsement from Kerry and l believe it will be a plus to Barack.

Barack Obama '08

Little Johnny D,
George W. Bush didn't win in 2004 because he was popular. If that was true the argument to vote for him would not have been, "you can't change horses mid-stream". It would have been "vote for me because you like and trust me".

As a 22yr old African-American lifelong party loyalist currently enrolled in grad school, I support Sen. Clinton and Sen. Kerry. That said, he should have remained neutral in this matter. Now I have severed my "John Kerry" emailings and letters, but I still respect him and his past military valor.

Vote Clinton 2008

RNC Gadfly Bruce,

Speaking of people who don't predict so well.

Tell us again about your predictions before the '06 election?

Have you picked a candidate yet? C'mon you can do it!

Kerry's support WILL help Obama because Hillary's win in New Hamshire was NOT legitimate - Kerry's support will undo much of the momentum Hillary obtained by cheating in New Hamshire

HILLARY CHEATED PURE AND SIMPLE - THAT IS THE ONLY LOGICAL CONCLUSION - this is from an independent -
the answer is rather clear if you think about it - but unfortunately, too many people are jumping to conclusions without thinking - Occam's razor gives us the overwhelmingly most likely conclusion of exactly what happened in New Hamshire - one thing and ONE thing alone can and does explain what happened - How could nine different polls switch 15 points in 30 hours for one candidate only ?????? THE answer is - THEY CAN'T !!! therefore, the answer is rather clear -- HILLARY CHEATED - WELL SORT OF - SHE CHEATED BUT SHE DID IT LEGALLY (NEVERTHELESS HIGHLY UNETHICAL AND SOME DEMOCRATS LIKE KERRY KNOW IT AND ARE SICK OF IT)

the polls were not wrong
but they polled only the people IN New Hampshire -- not realizing that many people who voted for Hillary were not in NH at the time of the polling

Hillary sent thousands of voters from NY and parts North (and south and east and west) to register in NH - but since they do not actually live (or work) in NH, they were not a part of the polling - but then these "registered voters" did show up to vote for Hillary (of course ! who else is smart and devious enough to take advantage of every loophole ??) - it was very, very easy to do because NH law is so incredibly lax on establishing residency in order to register to vote in a primary !!!

Furthermore, it was very easy to cover up this CHEATING for three rather ordinary reasons 1) there were many non-NH people in NH covering the event for the press along with out-of-state celebrity watchers as well - trying to cover the media frenzy or simply trying to get a glimpse of Obama or Chuck Norris or Katie Couric etc. (i.e. lots of out of state license plates were already in New Hampshire and therefore new faces and high numbers of visitors were expected), 2) there was already (as anticipated) a large number of highly publicized newly-registered legitimate voters (and like the press/tourist issue mentioned in number one above, this would also have the direct effect of drawing far less attention to new faces at the voting places as would ordinarily be expected) and 3) the press is much more likely to ignore this probablilty than to research it properly due to their prior Clinton allegiances -- for all of their love of Obama/Mccain/Huckabee and other great "stories", the press as a whole certainly does not hate Hillary and would be hard pressed to do the in depth research that could be done to prove Occam's razor to be 100% right about HILLARY'S "CHEATING" IN NEW HAMPSHIRE - if they (the press) were to "catch" Hillary doing what she did, it would cause irreparable harm to her campaign (not to mention embarass democrats, women in general and New Hampshire voting officials) - many female members of the press are rather obvious about supporting Hillary and have been for a long time.

HILLARY CHEATED - END OF STORY - THIS IS THE ONLY LOGICAL CONCLUSION - THE LOGIC MAKES THIS SO CLEAR AS TO REMOVE ALL REASONABLE DOUBT - HOWEVER,THERE IS OTHER EVIDENCE - BILL CLINTON'S BOLD PREDICTION IN ADVANCE THAT THIS LAST MINUTE DEVIATION FROM THE POLLS WOULD HAPPEN IS HIGHLY SUSPECT (THIS FROM A GUY WHO LIVES HIS LIFE BY POLLING DATA AND WHO PRIDES HIMSELF ON BEING RIGHT ALL THE TIME) - BILL KNEW IN ADVANCE !!!!! THIS WAS PLANNED MONTHS AGO -- AND ALSO THERE ARE ANECDOTAL ACCOUNTS OF LEGITIMATE NEW HAMPSHIRE VOTERS WHO SAW WHAT HAPPENED BUT ARE BEING IGNORED BY THE MAINSTREAM PRESS

in a way it is a credit to Hillary that she was the only candidate smart enough and bold enough to CHEAT in this manner - but, then again, sinking so low underscores her complete lack of character and the Clinton obsession for power (for those of us who still believe such traits are not admirable in a leader)

AND BY THE WAY, THE "TEARS" OF HILLARY WERE SINCERE, GENUINE AND TOTALLY REAL -- BUT HILLARY WAS CRYING ONLY BECAUSE SHE ACTUALLY THOUGHT FOR A MOMENT SHE MIGHT ACTUALLY LOSE IN NEW HAMPSHIRE BECAUSE SHE HADN'T "REGISTERED" QUITE ENOUGH VOTERS WHO LIVED OUTSIDE OF THE POLLING AREAS TO OVERCOME OBAMA'S IMMENSE LEAD IN THE POLLS (AND CERTAINLY NOT BECAUSE SHE CARES FOR THE FUTURE OF THIS COUNTRY. HILLARY DOES CARE ABOUT HERSELF AND HER FUTURE AND SHE CARES PLENTY ENOUGH TO LIE AND CHEAT HER WAY TO THE TOP.

WHEN HILLARY CRIED SHE SAID, "I SEE WHAT'S HAPPENING" - WHAT SHE MEANT WAS SHE THOUGHT OBAMA'S LEAD WAS INSURMOUNTABLE EVEN WITH THE CHEATING SHE HAD PLANNED BUT THE CHEATING TURNED OUT TO BE JUST ENOUGH TO WIN NEW HAMPSHIRE -

ONE QUESTION REMAINS ..................................................................................

WILL HILLARY'S LUST FOR POWER, FUND RAISING TACTICS AND CHEATING BE ENOUGH TO BEAT HER MORE HONORABLE OPPONENTS FOR THE NOMINATION AND ULTIMATELY THE PRESIDENCY ???

you decide

John D.,

Dubya wasn't unpopular because his popularity poll #s were above 50% in some polls - so says you.

And this constitutes a victory?

Dude, you're killin' me!
