The Swamp

by Frank James

ABC News is reporting that the woman whose question led to Sen. Hillary Clinton's emotional moment on Monday wound up voting for Sen. Barack Obama in last night's New Hampshire Primary.

According to the ABC Report:

Marianne Pernold Young, 64, a freelance photographer from Portsmouth, N.H., told ABC News that while she was moved by Clinton's emotional moment, she was turned off by how quickly the New York senator regained her "political posture."

"I went to see Hillary. I was undecided and I was moved by her response to me," Pernold Young said in a telephone interview with ABC News. "We saw 10 seconds of Hillary, the caring woman."

"But then when she turned away from me, I noticed that she stiffened up and took on that political posture again," she said. "And the woman that I noticed for 10 seconds was gone."

How ironic if the moment that some say may have contributed to Clinton's crucial win last night by increasing her share of the women's vote, was caused by someone who ultimately voted for Obama after apparently being repelled by Clinton's near-instant ability to regain her composure.

So was Hillary supposed to turn the whole setting into the View or something? Of course she had to regain her composure quickly. She struggled to do it for ten seconds. That's a long time.

Sour grapes. All this goes to show is that the woman wasn't a "plant" as some were suggesting. The moment was authentic.

But what else do we expect from a writer has all but stated he opposes Hillary if for nothing else because her husband was president.

I guess that proves she wasn't a plant...

Obama admits campaign/PAC donation links. Bad news for the Barack Obama camp and his politics of hope clean-guy image. The Washington Post reveals today that there was, indeed, close coordination between the Illinois senator's presidential campaign and his leadership PAC, Hopefund, in deciding which local, state and federal politicians around the country were to receive thousands of dollars in contributions from Obama's PAC.Such coordination appears to be forbidden under Federal Election Commission rules because it, in effect, would give a candidate another, less regulated financial fund to influence the outcome of his own campaign. But Obama officials express confidence they violated no rules. The Post's John Solomon reported the other day that Obama's Hopefund had distributed money in the early voting states of Iowa and New Hampshire to people like New Hampshire state Sen. Jacayln Cilley, who got $1,000 from Obama last summer. Six days later the Democrat in the nation's first primary state announced her endorsement of his candidacy because she said she believed in him.Likewise, Obama's PAC gave $9,000 to U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes, who was New Hampshire's first congressional member to endorse Obama. In the earlier story Obama spokesmen denied any connection between the PAC and Democratic presidential campaign. But today's piece alters that account and says the PAC has distributed $180,000 to groups and candidates in New Hampshire, South Carolina and Iowa and another $150,000 to similar destinations in states with primary balloting through mid-February.Bob Bauer, private counsel for both Obama's campaign and PAC, named names of those from the campaign who'd help select the PAC's recipients and professed confidence the Obama entities had met all FEC regulations. But Scott Thomas, a Democrat and former FEC chairman, says: "He is clearly pushing the envelope."

I wish she would have said she was going to vote for him when they were asking her all of the questions after the tears.

Clinton's "near-instant ability to regain her composure?"

Since this was a setup and the tears were phony, is it any wonder Clinton was able to shut off the weepy machine in an instant?

I like Hillary well enough -- as Sen. Obama states, "Hillary, you're likeable enough" and it's true. But we're interviewing her for POTUS, not a spot on Dr. Phil.

Where I have trouble with Sen. Clinton is substance. If she's going to play the "experience" card, what has she accomplished in the Senate?

I think there was some help creating the CHIPS program (as a result of trying to get the BIG health care plan put into place for two years of the WJC Presidency, this was a carry-over result. If she'd had notes, this should have been a slam dunk). Anything else?

Sen. Obama has accomplished the FFAT act with Tom Coburn, some very extensive lobbyist reforms with Russ Feingold, and some nuclear containment work with Richard Lugar.

What we (America) needs now is leadership and a new direction. Just say "NO" to Reagan/Bush, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton.

We're not a plutocracy or an oligarchy -- we're a Democratic Republic and we need to act like one.

Obama is the best candidate going -- head and shoulders above the others.

Marianne Pernold Young -- you did a good thing voting your conscience. Fortunately, the deligate count was 9-9-4 so no biggie. On to NV and SC.

I have 1 thing to say. A crying woman or man turns me right off.I want a President that is strong and able to with stand the testy people and What happens if a war breaks out? I do not think she is materal for strong leadership.A leader who can take critisam along with the glory. Not A wilted Flowers.

Oh, the irony!
It is that "10 second" soundbite that might change the outcome of the primaries.

Congratulations to supporters of Senator Clinton.

I am, and plan on remaining an Obama supporter, but if she becomes the Democratic nominee I'll enthusiastically support her.

!GOBAMA!

Hilary is a HUGE faker who will do or say anything if it means getting her way.
I sincerely wish voters would educate themselves on her quasi socialist views and numerous corruption. For me it's
A B C (ANYBODY but Clinton!)

This just proves everyones point that the Swamp will go to any extent necessary to promote Obama. This is such a non story. I am not the biggest Bill CLinton fan byut he is 100% accurate in saying that his wife is being treated unfairly by the press while they give Obama a pass. Just look at the swamp and you can see it is true. Swamp writers are not journalists and have become, what real journalists considered the biggest insult to their profession, CHEERLEADERS. You guys should be ashamed of yourselves and start taking an unbiased look at Obama. There is enough there that shoule be investigated. HIs Rezko ties, missing votes and then attacking people for their votes, his voting record, his "present" votes on all controversial issues. He claims he is a leader but yet where is he when his state is in tatters and his party is doing nothing but fighting in Springfield and not doing their jobs. He has yet to say Anthing about what is going on in Springfield. WHy is Obama not being vetted like all other candidates are? Can someone at the swamp please answer that question.

So what did she want her to do, really let go and cry! Then the this woman and half of the country would ahve said Hillary was too weak and emotional and that's why she did not vote for her.Women have been accused of being acting too emotional and now another women faults her for NOT breaking down.

Let's see, since some African Americans dubbed Bill Clinton "the 1st Black President" I assume his attack on Obama should be considered "black on black crime." Did you see that Bill vehemently trying to slander Barack's character. Hillary said "I've been making change for 35 years" does it take that long...Someone needs to inform her that the presidency is only 8 years.
She gets the oscar award for the "whiner of the year" when she and BIll couldn't get anything on Obama, here comes the tears....if this chick whines when things don't go her way, how is she going to deal with the rigors of being the president of the United States...CHICK PLEASE!!
As far as the people who call Obama a "saleman" or "immature for the presidency" yet voted for Hillary after that remarkable (NOT) performance, tell me who got duped by a salesman!

...who cares. Voters vote for candidates because of issues, not emotional mood swings. Cant you find something of substance to write about?
BTW, HILLARY KICKED ASS!

Go Hill !

Crying has always been a strategy to Weep sentiments from others. We have seen it in courts of law used by criminals especially women. It is not strange that a woman who wants the presidency of this country by all cost will use this powerful weapon that Americans are easily preyed upon with it by a hand full of criminals.

Hillary Clinton and her husband had their chance to change this country. But as we all know they used the white house and the presidency for a pornographic spree. That moment was her time to excel in the leadership and salvation of this country; she failed to do so. She did not take good care of her husband’s matrimonial need, and left him wondering in the arms of a secretary employed to serve the state.

If she could not serve one man’s need how could she serve the needs of a whole nation? It is not only being a president that you could save a nation. Bill Clinton is getting older and needs more care than ever.

Hillary should learn how to take care of him rather than trying to save America. America have more competent young brains to save this nation. America does not have another chance to waste after eight years of war and terror.

I very much doubt that Ms. Young was torn between Obama and Clinton. She was clearly for Obama and I think she went there purposely to characterize Hillary in a negative light and she got something she didn't expect.
Sorry, Marianne, I'm a 65 year-old Democrat and have been around the block a few times and I'm not buying your song and dance.

I am so gald that Obama didn't look like Willie Horton because they would have really creamed him in Hew Hampshire. He still did rather great after-all in another all white state, and I don't think Clinton's tearing up(real or not) is going to work in the rest of the diverse states coming up.

When I saw the video of Hillary Clinton speaking in exhaustion, I saw that she was in many respects like myself, and I felt sympathy for her. But the fact that she is a bit like me (too stubborn, too adversarial, too prone to taking fair losses in a political contest personally) was not sufficient to make me want to vote for her. She wants that presidency for herself, with all her heart, and she will do anything to get it, so it seems. That is a scary thing. I want a president who can acknowledge that what is in his or her personal interest is not necessarily in the best interest of the U.S., or of the people in it.

Hillary has been in the public eye for over 15 years and we never saw that side of her, not even on 9/11. I can't believe the people of New Hamphire fell for it! I could tell it was a phony.

OBAMA '08!!!!!!! Yes, We Can!!!

$500,000 donated to the campaign since midnight last night, $8 Million donated in the first 8 days of 2008 alone!!

The donors are shouting "Yes, We Can!" with their donations. Stressing the importance of not letting his SLIM loss in NH affect the momentum of this campaign in South Carolina, Nevada and states beyond.

YES WE CAN!!
SI SE PUEDE!!

America, let's do this.

Why does this surprise any one that Hillary's emotional outburst may have won her the election.

The whole liberal orthodoxy is based on emotion, not rational thought.

As the old saying goes "If you are 20 and conservative, you hav eno heart and if you are 40 and liberal you have no brains."

I wonder how well Barack Obama or John McCain would have done if they were "moved to tears". It would probably have been seen as a sign of weakness. Obama has been sincere from the beginning.

Obama has diouble digit lead in the polls the day before and loses by 3 point, a 13 point swing - does anyone else smell the sniff of fraud on the part of the Clinton machine?

Stop posting your recycle garbage every where over the web. Typical Billhill supporter....

Shanice you are right by saying

"Hilary is a HUGE faker who will do or say anything if it means getting her way."

To support your point, after all the numerous infidelities of Clinton she stayed with him hoping to one day be in a posing of great power. THAT DAY WILL NOT COME.

Terry,

You're sounding desperate.

Not that I blame you.

If I took a look at the approval rating #s of my parties president (25%) and right track/wrong track polling numbers that show my party getting their behinds kicked - I'd resort to meaningless cliches - just like you did.

Fake crying is endemic in the clinton family, See for your self

Frank James, the ABC story does not support your claim.

Petty carping Right Wingers. Can you ever get the straight skinny or is it always BS.

Immediately after the event, Pernold Young told ABC News she felt a connection with Clinton.

"She allowed herself to feel," Pernold Young said at the time. " I was surprised and I said, 'wow there's someone there.'"

"All my girlfriends say, 'how does she do it?' How does she manage, how does she look so great all the time, I'd like to know who her hairdresser is," she said. "I just like to know how she puts it all together and is still plausible, believable and in control."

Pernold Young said even though Clinton didn't win her vote, she still respects Clinton as a woman.

"I think she's a hard worker," she said, "Like so many of us women she's an overachiever."

It is very possible that the vote was rigged in Hillary's favor:

http://www.legitgov.org/nh_machine_vs_paper.html

The machine-counted votes gave Clinton the lead, whereas the hand-counted ones were consistent with the polls.

Put pressure on the candidates to demand a manual recount before this Friday's deadline. THIS IS CRITICAL TO OUR DEMOCRACY.

How many more elections do Diebold have to steal?!

That's why your team is losing Terry, your stuck on thinking that the Repubs are what they were 30 years ago and even with George Bush's massive failures slapping you in the face like a piece of raw meat, it doesn't seem to make you anymore able to understand that.

Trickle Terry, you are the very definition of insanity.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
~Albert Einstein

Actually, Terry, no matter what the age, liberalism and brains have nothing to do with one another. For example, the left dingbats think a .7 C temp increase over 150 years equates to a 33.26 F increase. Or, BC, who still thinks Cuba is totally engulfed by the Caribbean Sea, when in reality, any ding dong looking at map can clearly see that Cuba separates the Caribbean from the Gulf and Atlantic, just like the Virgin Islands separates the Atlantic from the Caribbean or the Yucatan Peninsula separates the Gulf from the Caribbean.

When it comes time to vote for the President, Americans won't vote for a women that cries in public or a black muslim, they'll vote for a man that will keep their taxes low and protect them from terrorism.
That debate is over..Vote (R).

I HAVE A QUESTION? WILL MS. CLINTON CRY WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH AS A PRESIDENT? And is CRYING REALLY Presidential! And by the way WHY IS BILL CLINTON taking up for Hillery with the press? Did Hillery Cry over Monica? I dont recall she did, so just howreal were those tears?

You know, there are very few things that make me as proud in life as my Child. Sarah is a 15 year old honor student, a sophomore member of the Girls Softball team, a volunteer aide at the nursing home her mother provides physical therapy to, and she's a tenacious and gifted debater. And therein lies my downfall, because she's much more intelligent and and insightful than I am, and having been raised to see things as they ARE rather than how others would have her see them, she is not easily fooled by the machinations and manipulations of media pundits, marketers, or even politicians. so when she comes to me laughing almost hysterically at Hillary Clinton's emotional "MOMENT" I was taken somewhat aback. I raised her to be a realist, NOT a cynic. But she quietly reminded me that she has FORGOTTEN more about turning on the emotion (at the tender age of 15) than Hillary Clinton will ever know. At this point I advised her that in order to exhibit heartfelt feelings one must actually HAVE them, and that she should therefor not judge Hillary too harshly. To this point Sarah merely laughed even harder and pointed out that the only people who wre fooled by Hillary's "Crocodile Tears" were the gullible fools who WANTED to be fooled (And of course the EXTREMELY wealthy and privileged New England Aristocrats who will be looking to Hillary to protect their interests (ie: their illicit profits that come at the expense of poor working families that their holding companies regularly overcharge and defraud). Sarah further explained that Hillary was in a real jam (Sarah is somewhat of an expert at getting clear of problems by playing the emotion card) and needed to come up with something to get the voters to see her as something more than just a cold, hard fish, "Well it worked like a charm" I replied, she won by 3 percent. And Sarah had to admit that the ploy did indeed gain her the victory, but then added Hillary would be smart not to try to pull it off a second time, because she's not a very good actress. You can after all fool all of the people some of the time...

According to the Swamp post below Hillary's statement lasted at least one minute, 39 seconds, not ten seconds as this woman claims. It actually lasted longer, but Swamp cut some of the footage. But who cares? It was authentic. Hillary was sincere.

In other reports this same silly questioner who supposedly voted for Obama said she was "smitten" by him. Groupies grow older too, I guess.

Thank goodness the rest of New Hampshire voted on substance....

Where do Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama stand on the issues of Police Torture of African-Americans and Racial Bias in the courts.

We need to know before we vote for them in Chicago. African- Americans know who Sen. Obama stood with in the case of Aaron Patterson vs Jon Burge, he stood with the man who covered-up the torture as Cook County States Atty. ( Mayor Daley )

Margaret Trawick, 7:17pm. I think this is a really fair and candid comment. I hope to hear your voice again.

I wish Bush would have showed 10 seconds of emotion...maybe like after Katrina.

The writer's analysis, although a common one repeated many times, is just plain wrong.

I am convinced the only factor responsible for this was a brief demonstration at an appearance of hers by some oafs chanting about her getting back to the ironing board.

The event, hardly noted nationally, is said to have been well broadcast in New Hampshire. Coming shortly before the vote, it undoubtedly caused a swing with women voters who generally like Obama.

You might think those ironing-board oafs were executing a clever Republican plan to promote Clinton indirectly since I am sure she is seen as the more vulnerable ultimate opponent.

Why would anyone call Hillary Clinton's shedding tears crying?

This nation is going crazy. The truth is that a great deal of men in the US cannot stand a woman of high intelligence, strength and high caliber. Period!

Hillary Clinton for President 2008 to make history. Obama is neither black nor white, but a mixture. How would you call that a history-making should he win the race?

Tears, tears and lies. The so call emotional display by Hillary clinton. The shameful attacks by her husband Bill Clinton swayed the voters of new hampshire. I will not vote for her in the general election if she is the democratic nominee. People need to wake up.

I'm waiting for Senator Boy Wonder to have one of his daughters run out on stage during one of his speeches crying and ask why daddy has to spend so much time away from home and daddy will say "honey, daddy has to save the world for you and your sister."

I think Bob has an interesting point on the possiblity of the Clinton's stealing the NH primary.

Doogie,

President Bush's approval ratings are over 50% higher than the 25% that you stated. If you can't follow my math, have Trickled On help you.

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/political_updates/president_bush_job_approval

Tricled On,

When you get to 20, this might make sense to you if you ever hold a job that does bot require the phrase "would you like fries with that?"

The true winner at NH had in fact never been Hillary Clinton but the Republican hopeful who will ultimately emerge from the caucuses. All republican hopefuls are praying God every night and every day to have Hillary as the democratic nominee so as to have their dream come true. For, they know in advance that the torrent of tears will never save her. Heir lachrymal or tear glands will prove to the world how very long ago they have dried out. Obama had never aggressed Hillary, he had all along the campaign remained positive, correct and gentle. While the Clinton couple had engaged political campaigns that are long on sleaze and short on substance. The People of the USA are not as stupid as the Clinton imagine, They cannot be duped indefinitely. OBAMA WILL UTIMATELY PREVAIL
