Everyone making as much as $3,000 should expect a tax rebate under the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 that President Bush plans to sign midweek.

At least, that's what the president said today:

"I'll be signing this bill soon,'' Bush said at the White House today. "But if you're a taxpayer or if you're a -- got income, earned income -- credited income up to $3,000, you can expect money back. And if you're a business owner, you're going to get some incentives to invest. And so you ought to be planning on investing now.''

Actually, the rebates in the bill which Bush pushed through Congress and which both the Senate and House have swiftly delivered to his desk start with people earning at least $3,000 a year.

The rebates, at least $300 for an individual and $600 for a couple filing joint tax returns, will range as high as $600 for individuals and $1,200 for couples -- in addtion to a $300 credit for each child eligible. The nonpartisan Center on Budget and Policy Priorities estimates that a couple with two children and an income of $35,000 will see $1,800 in the mail this spring.

"It's going to help deal with the uncertainties in this economy,'' said the president, with the White House suggesting today that the economy is going through "a rough patch.''

Sort of like the president's remarks today.

Borrow and spend, borrow and spend. You can't trust Republicans with the economy.

I WAS WONDERING, WILL PEOPLE OWING BACK CHILD SUPPORT OR ALIMONY HAVE THEIR REBATES GARNISHED FOR THE REARAGES THAT ARE OUTSTANDING?

What about tax payers, making over $3000 dollars, who are dependent on there parents? (19 year old college student)

'Bread and circuses' were the norm in Caligula's Rome, too. He was famous for not only throwing money into crowds, but enjoying the sight of people being trampled.
(Caligula didn't consider burning human torches for parties as torture either.... similar to the White House's viewpoint towards water-boarding)

Next year we'll be paying taxes on this and Bush will be long gone...put it off this year but pay double next.

"What about tax payers, making over $3000 dollars, who are dependent on there parents?"

Wayne, please use the $ to take an extra class in English. I'm serious. The word you want is 'their', not 'there'. Sorry, but this is important in the business world.

But to answer your question, if you are classified as a dependent on someone else's 1040, then that person should get the rebate.

Is everybody stupid? Who do think is paying for all this?

The economy should be humming along in no time.

"What about tax payers, making over $3000 dollars, who are dependent on there parents? (19 year old college student)"

THEIR - what school do you attend again?

Now that the writer's strike is over, Bush can stop making goofs like this for the sake of helping out late night tv hosts...wait, what's that, he's been doing this kind of thing for 7 years? Wow!

If you are claimed as a dependent on your parents' return you should still get the rebate if you earned at least $3000. Bush's quote - "But if you're a taxpayer or if you're a -- got income, earned income -- credited income up to $3,000, you can expect money back..." If a illegal can get it, or someone on welfare can get it I see no reason why a hardworking student shouldn't get it.

I had to look it up -- Almost ten percent of Americans make less than $10,000 a year.

"BUSH SPEAKS"

OF COURSE I'M NOT GOING TO VETO MY STIMULUS PACKAGE.

I KNOW I SAID I WOULD SIGN IT LAST WEEK. BUT IT'S HARD WORK, AND I'M WORKING HARD.

I DON'T SEE YA'LL GIVING ME MY IMMUNITY PACKAGE DEAL FOR AT&T AND VERIZON WIRELESS FOR THE EAVESDROPPING, WIRETAPPING AND DATAMINING I ORDERED THEM TO DO ILLEGALLY.

SO AMERICA, JUST BE PATIENT, IF CONGRESS GIVES ME MY IMMUNITY I WILL GIVE YOU YOUR STIMULUS CHECKS SO YOU CAN GO OUT SHOPPING AND BUY MADE IN CHINA SO OUR CHINESE DEBT CARDS WILL WORK.

YA'LL NEED TO CALL CONGRESS AND MAKE THEM STOP ALL THIS "CONGRESSIONAL CHURN" OR "OVERSIGHT" AS THEY CALL IT AND GET ME MY IMMUNITY, YOUR STIMULUS RESIDES ON IT.

"LONG LIVE NANCY PELOSI"

AND STOP SAYING THAT ROGER, JUST CALL AND GET MY IMMUNITY OR DEFINITELY NO STIMULUS FOR YOU.

I stand corrected. If you are a dependent on someone else's return, you won't get the rebate. Also, you're parents won't get the additional $300 child rebate if you are over 17 (child tax credit rules apply). So you are totally screwed. However, Grandma and Grandpa will get the rebate even if they didn't earn a nickel since their Social Security counts. Another shaft for the workers of America.

I am a single mom of 6 who makes only 21,800 a year. Does the rebate increase based on the amount of income you made, i.e. $3000.00 would be maybe $130 for a single individual and increase from there? How does this work for persons with more than 2 childen? Will they issue the rebate according to the children claimed on your tax return? Will this have to be claimed on your 2008 return as income?

Swamp note: The minimum for anyone qualifying, which you apparently do, is 300 dollars. There is an additional 300 dollar credit for each child. The minimum, without the children, runs from 300 up to a max of 600, based on income. so, while this is not legal tax advice: you'd seem to be in the range of 300 to 600, probably toward the higher end, plus the credits for kids. In May or June, they say.

I plan to stimulate the economy by donating money to the Democrats. Thanks George!

Thanks alot. I appreciate the information. I think that I will put the childrens money into savings for them. That would be a nice boost to their savings accounts. I would also love a new pair of shoes. I don't know about that economy boost though. For all of the hard working people out there who will have a nice rebate to look forward to, spend wisely.
Ditto
Thanks George!

And now the preeminent voice of conservative capitalism in America speaks, and it's not good news folks...

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB120269228578457765.html?mod=hpp_us_whats_news

Just proving the liberal media bias myth is exactly the myth it really is. If the WSJ says there's doom and gloom, there is doom and gloom.

I currently collect SSDI and work part time. For Year 2007 I made under $3000
would I still receive the Stimulus Rebate>>>

Mark, where you in a particularly cranky mood to make an item on an errant remark? You and I both know Bush meant folks can get back as much as $3,000 depending on dependents and income.

You gonna tell us you never made a mistake?

And to anonymous, how do the working folks get screwed? Even folks who pay NO federal income taxes will still get a $300 rebate. Any single earner up to $75,000 will get a $600 rebate and couples making up to $150,000 will get $1,200, with additional amounts for dependents. Seems like "workers of America" will do pretty well.

And you Loony Numbnuts do realize this bill was passed by the Democratic Congress too? Or did Bush "trick" them into doing that too??

Who needs the writer's strike to be over when this bafoon of a president gives all the material comedians need?

By the way, conservatives were all besides themselves yammering about how great this economy is just a short time ago. Are you guys really that dumb?

I think the democratic lead Congress passed this legislation - so don't pin this entirely on the Republicans. Isn't this what you libs want - the guy make $10K getting the same tax break, in dollar terms, as the guy making $100K?

Speaking of misspeaks (or was it what he really meant):

http://blogs.suntimes.com/sweet/2007/02/sweet_column_obama_regrets_was.html

BrianZ - Ask yourself why these folks are not making more than $10K per year

How the working, taxpaying people get screwed it like I said. People who earn money and pay the taxes give it to those won't don't. A dependent who earns $10,000 and pays income tax should get the rebate before someone who doesn't earn a dime. Also, those earning more than $75 don't get a rebate. I guess if you not really working if you make more than that. I the Bimbo president makes his utterance that "if you're a taxpayer, er uh um, got income, earned income, credited income up to $3000, you get money back" What a complete moron. The man can't even speak in complete sentences. He can't compose on thought.

I'm a stay at home mom of two children, yet I made $3000 over the last year by babysitting - I claimed this on our tax return and therefore am paying taxes on it. Should I expect a rebate as well... or just $600 for my husband and the additional $600 for my kids?

Another hit of heroin, just one more please.

Here's what many Americans will do; Charge up their 'share' now with the intention of paying down their card when the swag arrives. When the swag arrives they will spend it instead of paying down their card.

We are saving our cut.

Re. '..as much as $3000..'; Everything the man says will end up in a joke book.

Don't forget Terry, that Sen John McCain also made a "soldier's lives wasted in Iraq" comment. Why didn't you mention that? Maybe you don't remember because the so called liberal media ignored it while they went after Obama.

John D, still think there is nothing wrong with the economy? Just 2 weeks ago you were mocking "doom and gloom" Lefties who in your words would be unhappy with anything less than another Depression because we were pointing out the troubling signs of the fraudulant Bush economy. You have zero credibility. Good night.

Is this going to be simply added to your tax return if your eligible? Or will it be a separate check altogether?

Swamp note: separate check

DO SENIORS WHO NORMALL WOULD NOT FILE A RETURN HAVE TO FILE IN ORDER TO RECEIVE A REBATE.

Save, Save, Save:
Not only with this rebate but also with all income. Pay yourself first and send the money lenders packing.

There, now you have the secret.

I not real excited about the Stimulus Act. For tax year 2007 I paid in $74,000 in federal taxes...so my responsibility is to help fund the rebates.

Okay When deciding who this money will go to do they use the total income, adjusted gross income, or taxable income or possibly the EIC.
Although Im know this is the same as in '00 right after he was elected then we got eight years of the shaft at home and abroad; and while we sit at ~6,000,000,000 dollars in the hole and the 130 million that'll get this will add ~another 300,000,000 dollars to this.

ALL THIS ASIDE
I need the money so with the above info wil someone tell me if I'll get it??

I know the taxes will go back p next year under McCain or a Democrat.

I work with legal immigrants from Vietnam and they would like to know if they, as tax paying citizens, will be eligible for the refund.

I made a little under $3000, but also had a dependent, and am married but filed separately. I didn't get a refund for Federal taxes, nor did I have to pay anymore taxes for 2007. So, am I correct in understanding that I "will not" get a rebate?

Several of you need to go back to English class........there's a difference between "their" and "there" and between "your" and "you're".

Where do people think these tax stimulus checks come from? From all of us who pay taxes, of course. So our President isn't throwing money around....he's giving it BACK to us.

Does anyone know the maximum amount a (1) person can make in order to collect? or (2) a family filing jointly can make in order to collect this tax stimulus rebate?

What is the cap?

I MAKE UNDER 30,000 A YEAR, IN I HAVE TO CHILDREN (AGES 5 AND 9). I ALSO GET EIC. HOW MUCH I'M I EXPECTED TO GET BACK.

What about Peace Corps volunteer's who are making less than 3000K a year like myself? Do we get any money?

If I am married and work but my wife does not work But we file jointly with me as head of house hold will we get 1200.00 back even though she does not pay taxes but I do.

How much would you receive if you are still paying on your 2006 taxes. Can they take the rebate as payment??? That would be great.

Here's a Section 179 calculator http://www.crestcapital.com/tax_deduction_calculator you can use to compute tax savings on various equipment costs.

What if someone started working mid novemember, so didn't quite earn $3000 within the year? would i still be eligible to get a rebate? i Made about $1900 between november and december.

This money is going to help people buy gas and smokes. It targets people who make less than poverty level income. It is a form of socialism. I'm all for it. I'm a socialist at heart. Learn to love this revolving door because you pay for it. I also feel that this was set up so that special interest groups can profit.

What if you were unable to work the whole year. Didn't make enough to have to pay taxes, but Had deductions I couldn't use because of an illness.? I feel I deserve the rebate. I have paid in every year before????

I received my Rebate today but it was only 1200. I filed jointly with my wife and I have two children. Will I get an additional 600 later for my children?
