by James Oliphant, and updated

Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson today blasted MSNBC for a remark made by talk show host David Shuster about Chelsea Clinton's efforts in campaigning for her mother. Shuster, filling in for talkster Tucker Carlson, said Thursday that Chelsea was being "pimped out" by the campaign after noting that she had called panelists on "The View."

Here's the full exchange between Shuster and Democratic pundit Bill Press:

DAVID SHUSTER: Bill, there's just something a little bit unseemly to me that Chelsea's out there calling up celebrities, saying support my mom, and she's apparently also calling these super delegates.

BILL PRESS: Hey, she's working for her mom. What's unseemly about that? During the last campaign, the Bush twins were out working for their dad. I think it's great, I think she's grown up in a political family, she's got politics in her blood, she loves her mom, she thinks she'd make a great president --

SHUSTER: But doesn't it seem like Chelsea's sort of being pimped out in some weird sort of way?

Shuster reportedly has apologized, but Wolfson said today on a conference call with reporters that that wasn't good enough. "I havent received any phone call. I'm not familiar with any apology," Wolfson said. "Look, I think the comment is disgusting. Its beneath contempt. It’s the kind of thing that should never be said on a national news network."

Wolfson suggested that the campaign might retailiate against MSNBC by no longer agreeing to any further debates sponsored by the cable network. He also wondered if perhaps there is something anti-Clinton in the water. Last month, Chris Matthews apologized after suggesting Hillary Clinton benefitted because of how she was treated by her husband.

"I think at some point you have to question whether there is a pattern here at this particular network," he said. "Is this part of a pattern? Is this something folks are encouraged to do or not do?"

Update: Shuster apologized this morning, saying "last night, I used a phrase -- some slang about her efforts. ... [T]o the extent that people feel I was being pejorative, I apologize for that. I should have seen that people might view it that way, and for that, then I'm sorry." He is also expected to apologize again tonight on the Tucker program.

See what all the fuss is about:

And see what Emily Malcolm, president of Emily's List, has written in protest to MSNBC:

Malcolm's letter:

Phil Griffin

News Senior Vice President, NBC Television Network

& General Manager of MSNBC

30 Rockefeller Plaza

3rd Floor

New York, NY 10112

Mr. Phil Griffin,

For months, women and men from all over the country have been telling me about their anger at MSNBC’s treatment of women, especially Senator Hillary Clinton. Now, just yesterday, David Shuster talked about “pimping out Chelsea.” That is completely reprehensible.

I'm sending this letter today to let you know that the misogynistic pattern in the reporting by your network must come to an end. I know I speak for millions across this country when I demand that you take immediate steps and publicly tell us what you will do to eliminate this sexist and demeaning culture that has become so pervasive in your network.

Public figures are too often the target of vitriol and biased commentary. However, your journalists have repeatedly, and in now the most odious fashion, crossed the line with personal, sexist and demeaning attacks. The half hearted apology by Mr. Shuster this morning fails to even acknowledge the insulting nature of his comments.

Your tolerance for this behavior speaks volumes about the corporate culture of MSNBC. If you refuse to take action, women across the country, viewers, sponsors, and consumers can only assume your implicit endorsement of this type of sexist commentary on women and repugnant treatment of our children.

It's time for MSNBC to act.

Sincerely,

Ellen R. Malcolm

President

That liberal press!

First the Clinton's didn't want Chelsea speaking, even to 9 year-old "reporters." Then, when Hillary lost in Iowa, the Clinton camp decided Chelsea should "talk to anyone who will listen." So David has a point, although his language is rather salty.

What puzzeles me is why Wolfson believes he is entitled to an apology. He's a spokesman, for goodness sakes!

'"I think at some point you have to question whether there is a pattern here at this particular network," he said. "Is this part of a pattern? Is this something folks are encouraged to do or not do?"'

Duh! Come on, Wolfson. Of course it's a pattern. MSNBC, and Chris Matthews in particular, have been hardcore, Clinton-bashing, a$$holes for months.

And the rest of the MSM, including CNN, aren't that far behind. A couple weeks ago Wolf Blitzer had rush to cut that butthole Cafferty off as he started to launch into his own attack on Chelsea for no apparent reason other than he hates Hillary.

By the way, Hillary's up $8 million in donations since Super Tuesday.

I watch MSNBC and I'm a liberal. Chris Matthews is mostly a conservative who sometimes jabs a stick at other conservatives. Keith Olberman is a screaming liberal. Tucker Carlson is a disenchanted conservative. Joe Scarborough is a conservative. David Shuster sometimes fills in for some of these guys, would love to have his own seat, has been mostly balanced, but this comment was inappropriate. When a newsperson of any stripe starts throwing "pimp" or "whore" into the ring, they ain't gonna be a Charlie Gibson.

I saw the Shuster piece as it aired, and both as a news consumer and as a conservative supporter of Senator McCain, I disagree with his characterization of how the Clinton campaign is utilizing Chelsea Clinton. What she's doing appears to be entirely in bounds, and the campaign is going to great lengths to maximize her effectiveness and minimize the chances that she'll get trapped in the kind of "gotcha" moment that Shuster would doubtless love to trap her in. Shuster's mini-tirade is little more than yet another example of news media arrogance. Would be great if the press could get off the personalities and back to the issues.

Look, this is politics folks. If Hillary can't take a rude comment or the indignities of a campaign without crying like a baby, how can she expect us to believe she can handle the Oval Office?

The underlying hostility is barely concealed by Shuster.

"Unseemly"? "Pimped"? Chelsea Clinton is a 28 year old grown woman. It would be "weird" if Chelsea is NOT involved in the campaign.

Let's just agree that David Schuster's an idiot and move on from there. Anyone who says Chris Matthews is a conservative has obviously never watched any of his shows.

My wife and I are political junkies, I'll admit it.

MSNBC's reporting is heavily skewed in favor of Obama, especially with Chris Matthews.

That comment is absolutely horrible. One thing we don't like about the campaign is the rampant sexism that is allowed against Hillary; either by nasty emails or even press reporting.

But then to say that a family is "pimping out" their daughter?

The first "unseemly" comment points towards that it wasn't a slip.

MSNBC should make sure that they are allowing balanced reporting.

maybe chelsea can loan her moms campaign 5 mill

I cannot believe it. Some people with stoop so very low. How dare someone drag Hillary's daughter into this fray of cruelty. It is a wonder we have anyone running for office anywhere considering the way they're treated by the media. The media totally taints the facts and the people they want to win will likely win. I have never seen a more scathing bunch of conservatives! You should be ashamed.

This is nothing...

Have the Clinton people ever heard anything that the rightwing water carrier's (Fox Noise Channel, Rush Limpbaugh, Ann Cooter etc) have said about Chelsea?

Hillary is more of a Republican than any of the Republican candidates are or ever have been.

If Hillary had an (R) in front of her name and didn't have the last name of "Clinton" (Wingnuts suffer from Clinton Derangement Syndrome, which is sometimes fatal) she would already have the Republican nomination locked up.

Hey, Obama has Oprah pimping for him. Clinton having her daughter campaign for her is nothing compared to that.

A woman scorned is a very scarry thought. Especially one who could be in control of the most powerfull country in the world. She'll make Bush look like a choir boy!

Depends on what your definition of "pimped out" is. If her father can debate the definition of is, I think others can debate the definition of pimped out. The term has been used more frequently, and is part of the MTV crowds lexicon. The same group that that loved her father but does not support her mother. The commentator chose the wrong words, but it is not offensive as the Clinton camps is playing it up. They need to worry about raising money and less about being the target of the great every wing conspiracies.

By the way, Chris Matthews worked for Tip O'Neill. He is definitely not a conservative.

Matthews a conservative, give me a break? He used to work for Numerous Democrats including Tip O'Neill and ran once as a Dem, losing in the primary.

Shuster? On May 8, 2006, he proclaimed, "And I am convinced that Karl Rove will, in fact, be indicted". Doesn't sound like a conservative to me.

The treatment of Hillary Clinton (and now Chelsea) by the media has been despicable. Some of the things that are said on MSNBC and Fox News are utterly idiotic and one-sided. This is one of them.

All the media is for Obama. He is all fluff, lacks substance.

Hillary 08!

This comment was not the first that was out of line. There were also snide remarks when Dorothy Rodham was campaigning. Barbara Bush can campaign for her son but Dorothy can't for her daughter. Everyone else can have their children with them but Hillary. I was watching the show and I don't remember any apology.

If she's going to be succesful at "helping dear mom" she needs to tart herself up a little. Not sure if Chelsea get her "looks" from Hillary or Bill? Oh, it doesn't matter.

meh. Why do we even listen to these self-promoting talking heads for anything?

The Bush Twins have been lambasted relentlessly by the so-called "Mainstream Media", with no apologies issued. Nor should there be. Once the children of candidates start campaigning for their parents, they are fair game.
If Hillary can't take the idea of her daughter drawing a little fire, then perhaps she shouldn't throw her out their like cannon fodder in the first place.

Does that make Oprah a pimp for Obama?

We can't tolerate any more Clintons. I urge all of you to come to Obama! He's the leader for change, and he offers wisdom, hope and salvation from the mess we're in. I'ma a liberal but, He reminds me of Jesus in the New Testament...

Matt. 4: 19
19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

Obama 2008!

What is happening to America. I am surprised at the people who do no think this is offensive - must me the Obama crowd.

Pimping may be part of Obama and his peoples vocabulary but not Americas'. May be Obama, Mayor Daley and other Illinois politicians should pimp their daughters or at least have local TV reporter say such a thing let alone a national one.

Shuster is just another conservative who, like a jr. high-schooler makes ridiculous characterizations hoping to cull others into group-think. Did someone say: this is politics - deal with it? More like: this is news casting - BE RESPONSIBLE!

So? CNN is known as the Clinton News Network. Every time I turn around there's a Clinton campaign spokesman on or a Clinton-hired consultant billed as a "CNN contributor." Yes--I did look one of those contributors up and saw that he's worked for the Clintons for some time.

A few times lately when I've watched MSNBC I've had to check to see if I'm not on Fox. The only fair and balanced coverage I can find anymore seems to be on Comedy Central. The sexism in many cases is very subtle, but Hillary is definitely being held to a different standard than her male counterparts. I am even more impressed that she keeps forging ahead. Chelsea's a wonderful representative and I'd rather get a call from her than from the Bush twins any day.

Chris Matthews may be the biggest lib in Washington, and that is saying something...

Dear Drama Queens:

Please stop getting insulted over every darn wisecrack by every pundit. This guy's comment was stupid, but hardly offensive.

Talk about the issues, please.

Shuster, Matthews, Carlson and company are the result of the long, slow watering down of talent and professionalism that is accepted by media journalism today. There are no Huntleys or Brinkleys or Murrows to be seen or heard. You now have clowns in expensive suits.

Where is Jesse Jackson? Let's boycott MSNBC.

If someone had said I was pimping out my daughter, I'd probably take a swing at them.
Do you have a daughter?
How would you feel.
Shuster acts like a true scumbag, and is no better than Imus. At least Imus is supposed to be humor. Can't we get this guy off th air?

First of all, Chris Matthews is a Conservative? Secondly, the Chelsea remark by Shuster reflects his clear aversion to all things Hilary, and his unabashed intent to nitpick for the sake of creating controversy. You are correct: he had no problem with the Bush girls being "pimped-out" 8 years ago...As for an apology? certainly NObobody, not even a Liberal, for God's sake (can you stiil say "God"?) seriously believes the remark characterized Chelsea as a whore, or that there was ANY sexual connotation in his remarks.

Hilary plays the "now you're picking on a woman" card shamelessly, which is why you cannot win an argument with her. If you win, you lose, because she is a female, and shame on you, you big bully.

How ludicrous to suggest that she is thin-skinned and has been emotionally traumatized by such vicious political rhetoric!

But one surmizes that life will be far easier once she is the President. The media would NEVER pick on the Predsident?

Chelsea is 28? Heck, I am getting old.

Chelsea and her parents drug her into the fray, not the press........

I smell another attempt to get sympathy headlines on the eve of the Saturday primaries. Nothing riles up women more than thinking their "daughters" have been disrespected. Now, I'm sure they'll be voting in solidarity for Chelsea tomorrow. Give me a break -- how old is Chelsea -- 12??!! When you put yourself out there and you're an adult, you need to be tough enough to handle the detractors.

Please find some real news; not the fake kind the Hillary campaign is great at scaring up on the eve of primaries!

She's 27.If your going to drag her out there and use her,you better be able to take the heat.

Anything to avoid the issues.

If the 'pimped out' phraseology had been used on Republicans or conservatives who would have thought an apology was needed? It's only because it was mentioned in terms of Chel C that an apology was even necessary.

BTW, it's good she is helping her mother.

I watched this as it happened, and it shocked me a bit. I am a big fan of David Shuster, I hope he apologizes and think he will.

I will say this though, MSNBC is way more balanced, even skewed a bit right than most news channels. CHris Matthews voted for Bush, Tucker is a trust-fund libertarian but mostly aligns with conservatives, Joe Scarborough is no liberal while Keith Olberman is certainly a liberal.

How predictable. Hillary Clinton is looking for ANY reason at all to get out of debating. This lame excuse will work just fine. This politician seeks Office without feeling the obligation to defend her stances on just about every issue. So far, all we know is we'll be penalized if we don't succumb to her Socialist medical coverage. I'll gladly pay a fine - no one will be that involved in my own welfare, thank you -STAY AWAY FROM ME!

That "apology" is a total cop-out. He's apologizing for other people viewing his comments as prejorative or offensive... and for his failure to anticipate them. How classic. Clinton camp was at least right to call them on his lack of apology... He certainly hasn't apologized to Cheslea or her mother!

I cannot believe it. Some people with stoop so very low. How dare someone drag Hillary's daughter into this fray of cruelty.

Posted by: jb | February 8, 2008 3:23 PM

I also think the comment was extremely inapropriate and crossed the line.

However, the Clinton's "dragged" Chelsea into this by the very nature of the career they have chosen. And she is an adult. Chelsea doesn't have to be out there if she doesn't want to.

For the most part ya'll run your mouths with little or no accountability.
The butthead you employ who made the remark about Ms.Clinton's daughter is the reason a lot of people now rate media personnel one step below attorneys and one step above child molesters.
As for the accountablity, I can and will switch channels.
Have a Great Day
Jim Lewis

What a low blow by Shuster! If nothing else Chelsea can start playing the victim as her mother does. Let's see at 27, Chelsea will be just the right age to run for President as her mom ends her 8 year term. Just think of it, 16 more years of Hillary and Bubba. I can't stand it!!

It's interesting that the Clinton camp will vigorously defend themselves personally, but when it comes to issues they either hide or go lock stop.

The Clintons will take a stand to advance their personal power. They will not take a stand on the issues:

Anti-war? No, we supported the republicans. Didn't support our troops with funding? No, we funded the republican proposals. You want health care for all? No, we actually just want to put more of it in the hands of private insurance companies that funded our campaign.

If they were so vigorous as to defend the democrats issues and stand up for real principles, maybe the Clintons would be worth voting for.

The only feasible reason a democrat would vote for Hillary is because she is less likely to err in picking nominees for the supreme court, than McCain who committed himself to picking right wing idealogues who won't give much consideration to the facts before them, or the procedural safeguards that give the constitution meaning and power.

"Pimped out" well, what is so wrong with that phrase? Did her father go through an impeachment proceeding and do you remember why? Poor kid is going to have a tough time living with her parents' egos.

"[T]o the extent that people feel I was being pejorative, I apologize for that."

What a great non-apology apology! I'll have to remember that. Congrats, Mr. Shuster.

David Shuster has usually been a pretty decent guy but this comment is WAY WAY WAY out of line as so many of Chris Matthews' comments have been. Joe Scarbrough is also obnoxiously sexist.

I saw Schuster's "apology." It was the same form as Matthews' "apology" last month. If anyone was offended I'm sorry they were offended.

I could forgive Schuster if he gave a sincere apology but I can't live with this crap.

Chelsea Clinton is a very shy young woman and who would not be after the way she was treated by the media. Remember Limbaugh's comment about the family dog?

MSNBC needs to send these guys out to make sincere apologies and then clean up the whole act.

People MIGHT see "pimped out" as perjorative? Either this guy is the master of the "non-apology" apology, or his daughter has some interesting "dates".

Lets just get big sticks and bash the snot out of each other.

Why is Barack Obama "pimping" out his wife Michelle? She is above 28 - right?

This nonsense is exactly why we dont have qualified people to run the country. For a couple hundred thousand dollars you can be president and have everyone talk about you...it goes with the territory. If you cant hack the comments, you cant run the United States!

I would love to know who is really financing the Obama Presidential bid.

The really best candidate is Hillary Clinton.

The fracture that has occured may be resolved in November when a Republican wins the national vote.

Now thats what I call a real political train wreck.

As far as the Chelsea Clinton issue it is just one imbecile mouthing off.

Let's get it on with the debates.

first of all lets all grow up. these terms are used by everyday people all the time. Slang is slang and whats the big deal. Aside from that there is no way any of us afford any tax and spend liberal in charge of our country. Just look at how they hosed up the rebate program, turned into a welfare check for many. I am from Illinois, Obama has done nothing. He is nothing but talk, no action. There are far better democrats out there. He is clearly in it for the race card. They are so desparate to get the white house back they run a black knowing that many blacks will vote for him no matter what. Of course no one wants to admit that, as it may offend someone...oh well...too bad.

Matthews has been accused of being both a liberal and a conservative depending on which of his views he's espousing that day. Why don't we just call him a rampant attention hog and call it even?

David Shuster has usually been a pretty decent guy but this comment is WAY WAY WAY out of line as so many of Chris Matthews' comments have been. Joe Scarbrough is also obnoxiously sexist.

It was a cheap shot, but much ado about nothing.

(Wingnuts suffer from Clinton Derangement Syndrome)

LOL! Great comment and oh, so true.

I'm stymied why Clinton's 8 years of peace, prosperity AND fiscal responsibility are so terrible compared to Bush's past 8 years?

Any wingnuts care to clarify?

Because MSNBC leans so far in support of "O'Bama" we in our household will never watch it again. Maybe the Clintons should pull all advertising from NBC???

The term "pimped out" is more slang than a reference to requiring her to prostitute herself for money.

Since the campaign's trying to position her as being able to speak to Gen Yers, perhaps they should spend a little time reviewing Urban Dictionary.

By definition, being "pimped out" means Having excessive embellishments or ornaments, particularly of the flashy kind, ie feathers in fedoras, black canes with silver handles, multicolored mis-matched shoes, and colorful crushed velvet suits. Preferably worn simultaneously."

I think the argument could be made that she's embellishing her mother's campaign.

Get over it, people. If he had said "whore her out", then I think the campaign could be offended. But pimped? She should spend more time acquainting herself with the American people instead of spending it fundraising then they may actually understand how people speak.

MSNBC have disgusted me and many of my female friends. From the beginning it was evident that Chris Matthews and D. Shuster, J. Scarborough, O'Donnel are just caught up in the Obama mania. Obama is just not experienced enough to take on this country which is mired in two wars, a debt load that is rotting the country from the inside out, a recession, ect. The USA is facing some fierce problems that will call on the next leader to be able to call upon every American to sacrifice to keep our nation from becoming as desperate as did the USSR when economics caused it to fail. Go Hillary!

If a white man had called her that and she was black then all hell would have broken out. 2 sets of standards would have been in play here. I think Schuster was wrong in his wording. Admit it then get along with life.

What a "MessNBC" strikes again. Shuster is incredibly biased towards the left. The Clintons are simply not far enough to the left for Shuster. The other day Mika Brzezinski suggested to Shuster that had he been forced to attend CPAC this week he would have "broken out with the hives." He did not argue the point and in fact chuckled indicating clearly he agreed with Mika's assessment. He has said some incredibly irresonsible things on MSNBC. It is amazing that "MessNBC continues to present Shuster as a "reporter" when in fact he should be labeled a commentator with an opinion. Certainly there must be several other "reporters" with much more talent and objectivity than Shuster that would love to report on politcs for Matthews and Company. As for his comment on Chelsea - it is simply another example of his mouth working ahead of his brain.

It's sad when the media is making more news with their unprofessional behavior for the sake of ratings than the candidates discussing the issues that matter to all of us.

yes, having a male pimp "pimp out" a female prostitute is a lot better of a thing to say about a young woman speaking in support of her mother on the campaign trail than implying she just has loose morals by saying "whored out." Idiot.

To those who have no taste, class, or family values, and who are used to hearing and using gutter language everyday , this remark is not offensive. Nor is it offensive to the deranged Hillary- haters out there. To the rest of us who are sane and civilized, it is extremely offensive. Certain elements in our country are becoming more and more like members of a third-world country.

I find it interesting that Ellen is so upset by the way Hillary Clinton is treated when, on a regular basis, MSNBC continually lampoons President Bush on several of their shows.

Doesn't he deserve the same respect as Hillary?

jb,

"I cannot believe it. Some people with stoop so very low. How dare someone drag Hillary's daughter into this fray of cruelty."

What about how the liberal press has treated the Bush twins?

That was a dumb thing to say. At least it was on MSNBC, so only about 4 people actually saw it.

Navin wrote: "Pimping may be part of Obama and his peoples vocabulary but not Americas" In case you were unaware of this, Navin, Obama's "people" are Americans. Did you have some other ugly insinuation you wanted to make?

Who cares about the comment? You people and Hillary and 'em are SO sensitive. Hillary should have much thicker skin by now.

I urge all of you to come to Obama! He's the leader for change, and he offers wisdom, hope and salvation from the mess we're in. I'ma a liberal but, He reminds me of Jesus in the New Testament...

David shuster and chris mathews are media whores. They are pimped out by the corporations which makes a progressive running against republicans who are in corporate pockets like playing a basketball game 5 against 8. There is nothing evil about just greed...which is why the dems when they win should clamp down on media monopolistic tendencies.

I remember when the Clinton Machine, which is known for dirty dealings, trashed an Intern by the name of Monica Lewinsky, from coast to coast. She was someone's daughter. Granted, two wrongs don't make a right – but, "But doesn't it seem like Chelsea's sort of being pimped out in some weird sort of way?" in no way rises to the level of the affront the "Clinton Camp" is making it out to be. Personally, I believe a spatt with the Clintons could only help MSNBC's ratings. America loves and has come to expect this kind of thing. Try not to grovel too hard Dave.

First, for all that say this is a ploy for Hillary to get good press. Well it was Schuster making the comment last night and the Clinton team responding today.

Second, for all the Obama supporters defending Schuster you just make yourselves and Obama look bad.

Third, can anyone get what the outrage would be if Schuster had said that about Michelle Obama or Oprah?

Fourth, obviously a lot of people care as the campaign has gotten calls and many women's groups are calling for Schuster's head (he has been suspended per Washington Post)

Everyone is wigged out becaise of the chelsea clinton comments but it was fine when the media trashed the bush twins.

This is about the glass ceiling. Hillary is standing up for something much larger than her daughter's reputation. She is standing up for all women. And yet you criticize her for not having thick skin? I'm glad she's mad and she's saying something about it. Women's voices have been shut down for too long. The Bush twins get lampooned all the time too. Yet, nobody said anything about Romney pimping out all of his sons. Because it is different for men.

Do we really want our children growing up listening to reporters and press like this? MSNBC should be ashamed. The media today is just disgusting. I remember when their used be journalistic pride.

More sleazy personal attacks on the Clintons by the media ! What else is new? So Chelsea is being "pimped" now, real nice slander towards women, wow, you "reporters" should be ashamed! this is very common with these tabloid quality reporters on MSNBC and CNN too. They should ALL be suspended like Mr. Shuster, what a hack.

GO HILLARY!!!

WE LOVE YOU CHELSEA!!!

Bill and Hillary Clinton are touchy about the word "pimped" since Bill was pimping Mr & Mrs. Lewinsky's daughter Monica. I guess for the Clintons saying "pimped" is worse than actually pimping.

Chelsey is older than Monica Lewinsky was at the time Bill "pimped" her. Seems like a double standard.

This WAS a stupid and calculated thing to say.

Sexism runs rampant even in the comments to this article. Please realize this in judging the wonderful truth-telling issues-reporting (pha!)media... sexism is more accepted than racism. This doesnt work in the Clinton's favor.

By using that hip hop phrase "pimped out" I think his IQ has gone down approximately 60 points. I thought he had more of an education than one that was gotten from videos.

Give her a beret and she can ... just like when Monica was several years her junior.

Well, at least Mike freely admits a desire to worship Obama, without trying to hide it like other Obama novitiates.

Mike don't listen to Jerk Butthead, he thinks things are great under Republican control, he want's more war for the little people and more cash for the rich white doughy croonies like him.

These (R) guys are going out with the trash on Jan 09.

The term "Pimping may be part of Obama and his peoples vocabulary but not Americas"???? Hmmm... quite a racist comment. tisk tisk

First she wants debates, her campaign sends out attack lines on Obama until he responded. Now that the debates are on, Ms. Clinton is getting cold feet to debate. Of course she does not want to debate in Ohio and risk her lead. How pitiful! First they played the race card and looks like they are playing the gender card right now to get all the women riled up. Why? They need money from ordinary women. They are tapped out from rich women, to whom they went first.

Insult the current President of the United States and MSNBC usually finds a way to promote you....but insult the Clinton family and you get suspended!!! Any bias at that network?

The "Pimped Out" saying is a horrible saying used anytime someone is out selling something. I know I've used it before when someone is on TV pushing there new book, you say their are pimping their book. I don't think this guy meant they were exploiting her as a female. Not defending the guy, just trying to explain.

Interesting comments about CNN and MSNBC. I'm an Obama supporter and I love MSNBC becuase they do seem so kind to Obama. I don't watch CNN anymore becuase they do seem to favor Clinton.

A no class comment from a no class jerk.

Shuster, the only unseemly thing in that whole report is you. I hope you enjoy the time-out in the corner MSNBC gave you. You obviously don't know MSNBC's demo. No doubt you having your own teary moment right now. Maybe you'll "find your voice."

Chris and his gang need to go of Mr. O, Mr.T have lost it. please find their replacements Mr. Chris is in lobve with Mr.O.

Chelsea Clinton is a college graduate for chrissake. From Stanford, no less.

Why do you suppose the Clinton campaign does not want Chelsea to speak? Even to that young school newspaper reporter?

Perhaps "pimping out" is not such a bad characterisation of how the Clinton campaign is trying to exploit Chelsea.

But then Hillary seems to think she can cry her way to the whitehouse.

And guess what? It worked! -- at least, before the New Hampshire primary.
Do you seriously believe Hillary will not continue to play this card?

I remember another no class jackass, Rush Limberger called her the White House dog, when she was in her early teens, a very awkward age.

He showed his true colors there.

Look at her now: An accomplished young woman.

Look at Rush now; A turd in an expensive suit.

Disgusting. What would have been the response if he'd used this comment in regard to Barak Obama's children speaking on his behalf?

They are pimping her out. They are having her call superdelegates. They had her call the idiots on The View.

I hardly see why calling them on their crap is a sin. And I think MSNBC is ridiculous for suspending the reporter.

David Shuster is an upstanding individual and topnotch news commentator. He made one mistake using a slang word. He should not be suspended for this one word misuse. He is always complementary to candidates'children and excels above and beyond in the honesty department.

There's something about the showy, narcissistic way all three of the Clintons are going about this campaign that invites critical commentary. They are larger than life - and twice as ugly, as my mother would say - every time they get on stage, anywhere. Such a contrast to the understated grace and humility of Barack and Michelle Obama . . . which is part of their appeal as voters look to bring back civility to our out-of-control society.

You had B. Clinton doing whatever he wanted to with other woman in the White House and other places.
You had H. Clinton standing by her man B. Clinton knowing this had been going on for a lot longer then the White House. Wonderful feminist.
So what's the big deal. They have been using people then denying it for a long time. Don't you get tired of it.

MSNBC HAS BEEN OUT OF CONTROL FOR MONTHS! THEIR REMARKS, ESPECIALLY CONCERNING SENATOR HILLARY CLINTON, HAVE GONE BEYOND RUDE. WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF SOMEONE INTIMATED THAT OBAMA WAS "PIMPING" HIS WIFE OUT! I CAN HEAR IT NOW!! RACIST, BIGOTRY, HEADS WOULD ROLL. I FOR ONE AM SICK OF WOMEN BEING TREATED LIKE SECOND CLASS CITIZENS AND BEING THE OBJECT OF SEXIST JOKES AND COMMENTS BY THE MEDIA. MSNBC IS OFF MY LIST PERMANETLY!

it is disgussing. MSNBc and the News Media in general have to respect the dignity of all American no matter who they are, how they look, or the way they walk or think. I see it nowadays, it is a pattern. I am asking myself: WHAT DID THE WRONG THING THE CLINTONS DO TO THIS COUNTRY? they are AMERICNAS like everyone else. WHAT DO THEY DO WRONG TO THE NEWS MEDIA IN GENERAL. THE NEWS MEDIA IS SO OUT OF CONTROL NOWADAYS, THEY DO NOT HAVE RESPECT HONEST PEOPLE. I WANT YOU ALL TO REMEMBER: AMERICA IS FOR EVERYONE, EVERY CITIZEN, NOT FOR A GROUP OF PEOPLE. PLEASE LITTLE RESPECT.

The term was not directed towards Chelsea, but towards her parents and her mothers campaign. The Clintons are ruthless and will do anything to get what they want. Of course, a daughter is going to want to support her parents. However, Hillary's organization should have enough decency to keep their daughter out of the fray. Maybe the lack of Hollywood's support is pushing Clinton into a corner. Chelsea is the likeable Clinton.

There is never an excuse for using the words "pimping out" on anyone! It shows poor class and unprofessionalism. The media needs to keep people who report the news professionally and accurately. The people who want to exploit others for the sake of their own careers are not quality people or quality newspeople and are in the wrong business. Help them to the door so they don't hurt others. I am personally tired of the media trying to cause issues between all the candidates and the voters. The candidates are making every effort to run an amicable race--could the media do the same? Lynn

David Schuster should know better! If Imus cant call someone a "happy headed hoe" then Mr schuster cant say that chelsea is being pimped out.

Fair is fair!

NBC and MSNBC in particular have seemed to have an anti-Clinton slant for several months now. This latest comment is especially disconcerting coming from those who call themselves respectable and unbiased reporters.

A third-rate reporter on a third-rate network that often fails to register on the Neilsens can't afford to piss off anyone. Each viewer potentially is one rating point. Don Imus was fired for less. Barnicle, the plagerist, needs to follow.

Chelsea is obviously uncomfortable being in the public eye, that much is clear; though the term "pimped out" may be a bit much, that's basically what is going on here people. Senator Clinton is a remarkable woman, but to say that her campaign has not "Marketed" Chelsea to appeal to young voters is just crazy.

You know, my problem isn't with phrase "pimped out." True, it's damned distasteful, but it's just a phrase. What I find ridiculous and offensive is the press taking perfectly normal activity - in this case, a family member helping with a campaign - and implying that it's something corrupt, questionable - "unseemly." Why does the media CONSTANTLY do this with the Clintons? And NOBODY else?

Hillary Clinton's daughter is helping out with her mother's campaign. So? Why does this jackass Shuster seem to think that there's something wrong and "unseemly" about that?

Whats the big deal? billy clinton is pimping that sow hillary for the presidency and the both of them are pimping chelsea..very clintonesque!

vicki,

That was 'nappy', not 'happy'...

Clinton's need to get over it, they are yesterdays news.Bill
is Americas #1 pimp

It's just a phrase, figure of speach, get over it.

I honestly think it was just a slip of the tongue. But, I have been noticing that the media is way too Pro-Obama. Like I mention in many of my post, Obama has been getting good press for the last two weeks. Something is strange going around. . .how can someone be so Holy?
