Prediction. You'll be hearing a lot more about her experience from Sen. Hillary Clinton on the campaign trail and in her ads while Sen. Barack Obama will continue to talk about change.
Why? Look, for instance, at the exit polling out of California. Voters were asked which of four qualities were most important in their vote: Did they vote most for the candidate who "can bring about needed change, cares about people like me, has the right experience or has the best chance to win in November."
Among the 24 percent of the voters who said experience was the most important factor in their vote, she trounced Sen. Barack Obama, 88 percent to 5 percent.
But among the larger percentage of voters—47 percent—who said that the ability to bring about necessary change was most important to their decision on whom to vote for, Obama won 59 percent to 35 percent.
In presidential races, effective candidates and campaigns usually take steps to shore up the candidates' weaknesses, especially in a contest that appears as close as the Democratic one does.
So expect to see Obama hitting hard the message that he does have experience beyond his three years in Washington while at the same time he continues to argue that experience isn't everything since it was seasoned hands who made the decisions that led to the U.S. difficulties in Iraq.
Meanwhile, Clinton is bound to continue to argue that she is the candidate of who can bring real change even though many voters clearly don't see her in that light.

Obama sure knows about change. Just look at what he's brought to Illinois. Stroger, Giannoulias, Blagojevich, Rezko, corruption. Which is a COMPLETE change from Rezko, Stroger, Blagojevich, corruption BEFORE he was in office.

While Hillary is not all that experienced as she would like us to believe, she now has the lead that will be tough to overcome. She lacks the charisma of Barack Obama, but her political machine has been working on this moment for years and it is a good one.
Still, many believe Hillary has too many negatives among all voters to beat John McCain (and still carries the highest negative numbers in recent history- many people do not like her). I wish Obama would win, as even some Republicans I know would vote for him.
Given a choice between Hillary and McCain, I would break tradition and vote Republican.

My prediction. Republicans have the time now to unite for November. Democrats are terrribly fractured. If Hillary wins, the blacks will sit home in November. If BO wins, white voters will support Michael Bloomberg if he runs as an independent. If not, white voters will support John McCain, Vietnam hereo, who is a moderate with views white voters will support. I am a democrat and this is how I will vote in November.

Ya know, Frank I think they are hiring over at the Department of Streets and Sanitation. Why don't you stop by. It would be a good career move for you.
"24 percent of the voters who said experience was the most important factor in their vote, she trounced Sen. Barack Obama, 88 percent to 5 percent".
Great news, Frank. Why am I not surprised?
"47 percent—who said that the ability to bring about necessary change was most important to their decision on whom to vote for, Obama won 59 percent to 35 percent".
Great news, Frank. Really knocked me off my chair with that one!
"effective candidates and campaigns usually take steps to shore up the candidates' weaknesses".
Really, Frank.
I think a job is open scheduling the garbage trucks. That way you wouldn't have to bother with the heavy work.
Like with the job you have here, you would just be handling the light stuff!

So, obviously, Hillary has previous experience which will bring our country change. We will see obvious result in Super Tuesday. Obama doesn't have previous expereince and how he is going to change without knowing right or wrong. It is gravely dangerous to our country. He can't run the office with support of other person help. He need to decide which is good for our country.
Posted by: andrew | February 6, 2008 11:24 AM
As the campaign rubbles on Obama will eat into the issues that convinced voters to play it safe and stick with Clinton. I am convinced Obama will be the Democratic nominee and will go on to win in November.
Posted by: Pat | February 6, 2008 11:30 AM
Again with the experience... What experience are you talking about?? She rides on the curtails of her husbands political success. Even now she does. She has done absolutely nothing to prove she is experienced and can bring change.
Obama is self made. has made it into the Senate 15 years faster than Hilary. to me that speaks of a prodigy, someone with REAL potential.
Hilary only does what ever she is told. Her story changes with every person she talks to. She says only what people want to hear. There will be 0 positive change if she is elected. Our country is just going to end up sinking that much further into the cesspool.

It will come down to a convention decision between HRC and BHC. I believe the delegate numbers will barely carry HRC once her campaign does a little arm twisting and gets the delegates from Florida and Michigan to be counted.
I think Bloomberg is waiting for Obama to come in second and then see if he'd be willing to be his running mate. That would steal independents and members from both parties in a potential upset. Bloomberg would satisfy many voters looking for someone with a strong financial background and a moderate conservative while Obama could serve the country in diplomatic circles repairing and restoring America's standing on the world's stage as VP are tasked to do.

It was sad to see how many older people in Minnesota voted for Obama just because everyone said Obama! Obama! a vote is more than a name or charisma, is abouth competence and problem solving. If he wins the nomination, will have a Republican President.

I believe that Obama wont win for the simple fact that todays world is still racist!! He has all the characteristics of a great president...hillary is a decent canidate but not as good as Obama if doesnt win i wont be surprised but ....everyone deep down knows he should be the 2008 to 2012 president

Phil: If the final candidates were Bloomberg, Clinton and McCain the race would be difficult to call. However, I can't see Obama agreeing to run on an Independent ticked.
However...Bloomberg would no doubt make certain the public was aware of the people he'd invite to serve in his potential Administration, and I expect Obama would be near the top of the list.

Clinton's experience gave us a health care disaster, conducted in secret during the first year of bill's reign. In the ensuing eight years, the clinton's managed no health care reform; why expect hillary has a plan now. The words hillary's health care plan and wage garnishment belong in the same sentence.

I'm a democrat and previously thought I would be happy with either candidate. As this campaign continues, I find myself questioning how BO will affect change when he's so inexperienced. Remember his response to the side yard purchase- basically he admits it wasn't well thought out event. How could he be so naive? Oh yeah, it's because he's so naive. I wonder if Michelle nagged him to go through with the deal despite his better judgement.

I find Obama's platform troubling.
How can you profess to be the individual who will "change" the U.S. economy when you have no common frame of reference with which to perform these supposed changes. Obama has only 3 years in the Senate and no other record. You cannot be an effective "change agent" without an existing knowledge base that is founded on experience.
Obama has never served in the U.S. Millitary; however served in an eastern military regeme. He is not an african american; however, is professing to be one.
These anomolies equal a "puppet" with Kennedy and Kerry pulling the strings.
Obama is credited by Kennedy as being a speaker with "finesse." Well take a look, fellow citizens, at the different types of personalities who are finessee communicators: politicians in Europe and Asia, trial attorneys, and sales persons, to name a few. All of these individuals are known to be accomplished rhetoricians who speak with "finesse." I would not; however, want any of them to be president of the U.S.

Good Morning Everyone! As you can see, Senator Obama has much more LEGISLATIVE EXPERIENCE than Hillary. Looks like Hillary has spent her senate day names postoffices & buildings! Hillary has not INITIATED one bill!!
"Senator Clinton has based her campaign on an erroneous claim to greater legislative and administrative experience. Former President Clinton talks up her role in his administration on the campaign trail but pointedly refuses to release any documents that would provide greater details on her actual activities there. It is broadly understood that Hillary spearheaded the response team that staved off Republican attacks and spun the many scandals of the Clinton years. As to her Senate record, no one in the press has had the diligence to lay out her record for the public to assess.
Senator Clinton, who has served only one full term (6yrs.), and another year campaigning, has managed to author and pass into law, (20) twenty pieces of legislation in her first six years.
These bills can be found on the website of the Library of Congress (www.thomas.loc.gov), but to save you trouble, I'll post them here for you.
1. Establish the Kate Mullany National Historic Site.
2. Support the goals and ideals of Better Hearing and Speech Month.
3. Recognize the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.
4. Name courthouse after Thurgood Marshall.
5. Name courthouse after James L. Watson.
6. Name post office after Jonn A. O'Shea.
7. Designate Aug. 7, 2003, as National Purple Heart Recognition Day.
8. Support the goals and ideals of National Purple Heart Recognition Day.
9. Honor the life and legacy of Alexander Hamilton on the bicentennial of his death.
10. Congratulate the Syracuse Univ. Orange Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the championship.
11. Congratulate the Le Moyne College Dolphins Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the championship.
12. Establish the 225th Anniversary of the American Revolution Commemorative Program.
13. Name post office after Sergeant Riayan A. Tejeda.
14. Honor Shirley Chisholm for her service to the nation and express condolences on her death.
15. Honor John J. Downing, Brian Fahey, and Harry Ford, firefighters who lost their lives on duty.
Only five of Clinton's bills are more substantive.
16. Extend period of unemployment assistance to victims of 9/11.
17. Pay for city projects in response to 9/11
18. Assist landmine victims in other countries.
19. Assist family caregivers in accessing affordable respite care.
20. Designate part of the National Forest System in Puerto Rico as protected in the wilderness preservation system.
There you have it, the facts straight from the Senate Record.
Now, I would post those of Obama's, but the list is too substantive, so I'll mainly categorize. During the first (8) eight years of his elected service he sponsored over 820 bills. He introduced
233 regarding healthcare reform,
125 on poverty and public assistance,
112 crime fighting bills,
97 economic bills,
60 human rights and anti-discrimination bills,
21 ethics reform bills,
15 gun control,
6 veterans affairs and many others.
His first year in the U.S. Senate, he authored 152 bills and co-sponsored another 427. These included:
**the Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006 (became law),
**The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act, (became law),
**The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act, passed the Senate,
**The 2007 Government Ethics Bill, (became law),
**The Protection Against Excessive Executive Compensation Bill, (In committee), and many more.
In all since enter the U.S. Senate, Senator Obama has written 890 bills and co-sponsored another 1096. An impressive record for someone who supposedly has no record according to the spin meisters and mindless twits. I challenge Clinton supporters to name a single legislative accomplishment that demonstrates her superior experience.

Obama is all hype and hasn't really done anything, and please dont say he is a prodigy because he is young and became a Senator earlier than Hillary because the only reason Obama was Senator is because the previous Senator was in a mess and he took over IL but hasn't really changed anything there. You Obama supporters say Hillary's experience is based on Bills legacy but you fail to mention how many bills and issues she pushed forward and with bipartisan support so she can bring about change and has the experience and knowledge to do it. Obama is just banking on the young because they dont know any better and dont really care for politics they just want someone likeable like a populararity contest in High School/College and thats not how you choose a President.

What I find funny is that two senators, Kennedy and Kerry, who have been in DC for how many decades and NOW they think we need change there? What have they been doing all those years if they don't like the way politics are in Washington?
Both leading candidates have good and bad qualities (don't forget about Mike Gravel). What I would like to see is a little less voting on "electability, charisma, color or gender" and more on what these people REALLY have accomplished. That won't happen unless the reporting "changes".

hilary's experience is in corporate law, usually on the wrong side of common people, and her position was not earned, it was a reward for bill being governor, with her most notable achievment turning 1000 dollars into 100,000 in one year of very shrewd " investing". Following that, she spent eight years as first lady; using that logic, Nancy Regan or Laura Bush are as qualified as hillary. In all her time campaigning, she has not offered one definative answer to any question posed. Instead, she makes a speech and tells us that she is for health care for all, better schools, a strong economy, national security; well who isn't? And by the way harvard PhD, we get it, you're smart.
Posted by: robert | February 6, 2008 1:07 PM
The media has bought in to this experience mantra. I guess Laura and Barbara Bush along with the Bush twins are all qualified to be President. Since they all lived in the White House and was close to the sitting President. Heck, Barbara Bush was married to a Vice President for eight years, the President for 4 years, the mother of a President for 8....put her in the oval office right now!!!! She is clearly the most qualified person based on Hillary's logic of having the most experience due to being married to a President and living in the White House. Gimme a break !!! If it was about experience Biden, Richardson and Dodd would be the fully supported by all of Hillary's supporters and Hillary herself. Did her experience and knowledge prove worthy when she voted to authorize force. No, her experience gave you poor judgment and political manuvers. Her experience does proves worthy when she lies about the reasons why she voted for the war, who actually authored the resolution she voted for, the context of the Levin AMDT, planting specific questions in the audience and misquoting her political rivals. Ready to lead on day 1....more likely ready to lie on day 1.

...oh and Alma, older voters stuck with Clinton...they seem to want to keep to the comfort of the past quagmires they're familiar with.

how could anyone figure that hilLIARy won ??
only with monkey math could you come up with that
or else you could just lie about it - but clintons would never lie would they ??
HilLIARy lost the delegate count on super tuesday therefore Obama is the winner
the delegates are all that matter
the fact that Obama also won more states is irrelevant
the fact that Obama won 2 to 1 in some states that are 99% white is cool but irrelevant
committed delegates are THE main and ONLY objective towards winning the nomination and Obama won more of those
therefore it is clear that HilLIARy lost
that is settled as historical fact;
obama won super tuesday
anyone who says otherwise is a distorter
what I want to know is what experience does HilLIARy have that obama doesn't IF you leave out hilLIARy's vicarious experiences as a "wife" ??????
oh yes, she worked on "behalf of children" once long ago
so did every member of my extended family - but I don't write them in as US president material
HilLIARy is all style and no substance
even if hilLIARy had experience - which she doesn't - experience isn't always "all that" - some of our best presidents had little experience with politics prior to becoming president - some of our more troubled presidents had loads of political experience before becoming president
but let's just look at hilLIARy's argument one more time
if , as HilLIARy says experience matters so much, then you better vote for MCCAIN because he has much more experience than HilLIARy and obama combined - that is an endorsement for MCCAIN which HilLIARy Clinton is making for MCCAIN herself

Andrew, the informations below belies Hillary's claims of "experience". What has she done? Named postoffices, buildings, and greeted football teams?
How does that help NY? She has NOT initiated or passed any bills of her own. I would say Hillary's 35 years of experiences are in lying, distoring, and deceiving to get what she wants!

That's strange, CNN did a poll on just this percentage and they found that "change" won out 4 to 1 over "experience". Experience was down at the bottom of the rung.
Posted by: RuthieM | February 6, 2008 4:51 PM
"Experience" The Facts:
Senator Barack Obama
1996-2004 (Illinois State Senator)
2005-2008 (United States Senator)
12 Years of Elected Office Experience
Senator Hillary Clinton
2001-2008 (United States Senator)
7 Years of Elected Office Experience
(FYI – George W. Bush had 6 years in office before the presidency)
Barack Obama is more experienced to be President of the United States.
35 – 7 = 28 years of zero elected office experience for Hillary Clinton.
Again, what 35 years of experience is Hillary talking about?
Here are the remaining 28 years –
8 Years (Lawyer)
12 Years (First Lady of Arkansas)
8 Years (First Lady of the U.S.)
28 Years of Zero Elected Office Experience
Since when is 20 years of being a first lady relevant experience for being president?
Posted by: Philadelphia | February 6, 2008 7:36 PM
food for thought (for anyone with an open mind)
a) hilLIARy's "experience" is IFFy at best (compared to most candidates including obama) - one might accurately describe her "experience" as VIRTUAL
b) even so - history has shown that political experience does NOT automatically make for a better president
c) but IF in FACT it REALLY is MAINLY about political experience above all else as HilLIARy keeps insisting, then anyone who gives hilLIARy any credibility at all should take her advice and vote for McCain - who has hilLIARy beaten by YEARS in terms of ACTUAL political experience in elected office

HERES OBAMAS EXPERIENCE! Barack Obama and his fellow state senators considered more than 175 pieces of legislation on a frenetic day in March. Of those measures, Obama voted "present" 31 times! did not show up to vote in the senate often in his short time there, missed 130 votes! will not answer any reporter on how we would voted at the time. But his record after fact shows he supports the war, voted twice in 2006 against bringing America's troops back home. He votes for war appropriations giving our money to Halliburton and Blackwater. His latest bit of posturing S 433 allows the Bush Administration to suspend any troop withdrawal!!!!Which if not suspended, still keeps the troops in Iraq for a long time to come? Obama when faced with tough choices always gave in to pressure from the Bush administration or corporate lobbyists. Such as Obama voted for Bush's energy bill, sending more than $13 billion in subsidies and tax breaks to oil, coal, and nuclear companies. Obama voted with Republicans to allow credit card companies to raise interest rates over 30 percent, increasing hardship for families. Obama voted for one of Bush's top priorities - expanding Nafta to South America - even as President Bush obstructed all the top Democratic priorities. Obama voted with Bush to make it harder for ordinary people to hold big corporations accountable when they do things like sell toxic toys, poisonous pet food, or just plain rip you off. Obama was the Senate's biggest Democratic advocate of subsidies for liquid coal, even though liquid coal produces twice the global warming pollution of the crude oil it's meant to replace (Obama "backed off" this position after being pummeled by environmentalists for several months, but still voted for increased subsidies, albeit with conditions)Obama, a Hamiltonian believer in free trade and supporters of globalization has lent his support to the "Hamilton Project formed by corporate-neoliberal Citigroup chair Robert Rubin and other 'Wall Street Democrats' to counter populist rebellion against corporate tendencies within the Democratic Party. Obama provided assistance to pro-war candidates (such as Joe Lieberman). Obama voted for "business-friendly 'tort reform' bill that rolls back working peoples' ability to obtain reasonable redress and compensation...from corporations!!! Obama considers single payer universal health care too socialist and has stated that he prefers voluntary solutions. He has no substance. He has provided no solution to any problem until Hillary, Edwards or even Mitt Romey publically expresses theirs, then he copies, He’s been constantly negative with everyone.

Im not voting for Obama because the media is oushing, anyone supportung Obama dont know much about him. Obama said he goofed on votes angered fellow Democrats in the Senate when he voted to strip millions of dollars from a child welfare office on Chicago's West Side. But Obama had a ready explanation: He goofed! Also announced he had fumbled an election-reform vote the day before, on a measure that passed 51 to 6. The next day, he acknowledged voting "present" on a key telecommunications vote. He stood on March 11, 1999, to take back his vote against legislation to end good-behavior credits for certain felons in county jails. "I pressed the wrong button on that," he said. Obama was the lone dissenter on Feb. 24, 2000, against 57 yeas for a ban on human cloning. "I pressed the wrong button by accident," he said.
But two of Obama's bumbles came on more-sensitive topics, he backed legislation to permit riverboat casinos to operate even when the boats were dockside.
The measure, pushed by the gambling industry and fought by church groups whose support Obama was seeking, passed with two "yeas" to spare -- including Obama's. Moments after its passage he rose to say, explaining that he had mistakenly voted for it.
Obama would later develop a reputation as a critic of the gambling industry, and he voted against a similar measure two years later. But he was clearly confused about how to handle the issue at the time of his first vote, telling a church group that he was "undecided" about whether he backed an expansion of riverboat gambling. And, months earlier, he had voted in favor of a version of the bill.
Obama's vote sparked a confrontation after he joined Republicans to block Democrats trying to override a veto by GOP Gov. George Ryan of a $2-million allotment for the west Chicago child welfare office. being responsible," said Sen. Rickey Hendon, accusing Obama of voting to close the child welfare office.Obama replied "I understand Sen. Hendon's anger, I was not aware that I had voted no on that piece of legislation.

Hillary Clinton: GRIDLOCK FROM DAY ONE!!

Jack,
You have left out important context about the mistaken votes in the ILL legislature --
During his eight years in state office, Obama cast more than 4,000 votes of which 1/10th of 1% needed to be corrected.
Correcting the record is common practice in the Illinois Legislature, where lawmakers routinely cast numerous votes in a hurry.
Tommy Vietor, an Obama spokesman, said the mistaken votes were not meaningful. "In Illinois, legislators often have just a few seconds to cast a vote, so after thousands of votes they're bound to make a few mistakes,"
THE REAL STORY HERE is that in each case, Obama owned up to the mistake and corrected it.

Question for Obama supporters.
1) Why is Obama so generic with his message of change? I believe change is different, better policies, not empty rhetoric.
2) What makes you think he can bring change? He has done absolutely nothing to bring any kind of change and has only 2 years as senator. He clearly is not qualified to handle the most difficult job in the entire world!
