Sen. Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign says thousands of new donors are flooding into her corner in the wake of Super Tuesday, according to an update this morning.
The New York Democrat is hoping her supporters will cover the $5 million loan she made to her campaign a few days back.
Meanwhile, in his latest fundraising appeal, rival Barack Obama's camp offers their take on the meaning of the loan.
"This is a dramatic move," Obama campaign manager David Plouffe told supporters, "and a clear acknowledgement that our campaign has the momentum."

While Hillary's supporters try to dig Clinton out of the hole she dug, Obama has made an additional $6.8mil in donations since the polls closed on Tuesday night.

If Clinton II can't manage her campaign budget, how can she manage the federal budget?
Posted by: Bradley | February 7, 2008 9:05 AM
Having the candidates put in their own money is a sure sign that the campaign is in serious trouble. The country just doesn't want another Clinton presidency.
Posted by: Karen | February 7, 2008 9:07 AM
That only prompted me to contribute to her campaign and become involved. She needs to win since she has the experience to solve this country's problems after eight years of Bush's incompetence. Obama is all talk and no substance. If he wins, I will vote for McCain. He also has the experience to turn this country around. Obama is a rookie. This is not the time for an on-the-job training.

I find it impressive how much of Obama's contributions come from small donations - I LOVE IT! --and no lobbyist money - HA!

HILLARY CLINTON HAS BEEN UNFAIRLY RIP APART BY THE MEDIA.. THEY TALK ABOUT HER CLOTHES, HER HAIR, THE WAY SHE TALKS... AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED THIS IS A GENDER ISSUE..
MAYBE HILLARY ISN'T WARM AND FUZZY, BUT SHE'S WHAT THE COUNTRY NEEDS.
SOMEONE WHO WILL STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND GET THE JOB DONE..
LOOKING FOR CHANGE, VOTE HILLARY CLINTON, FIRST LADY PRESIDENT, THE TOWER OF POWER FOR 2008..

Hillary Clinton makes a salary of about$169,000 as a senator. She cannot charge for public speeches. She received $8 million from her book advance, minus taxes for a net of maybe $5 million. So from where is she taking the $5 million and maybe more to come? Is Bill participating? If Bill's profits from Kazakhstan are going to be funding her campaign, the public has a right to know all about it. Maybe the main question is: Does anyone in the media have the guts to ask the question?
Posted by: Garrick | February 7, 2008 10:32 AM
And as of Thursday morning Obama is over $7.1 million in new contributions! That's the REAL news - and it's all small donors. That to me is the real message right now: the country wants Obama to be the nominee. Don't forget he won more states and more delegates on Tuesday than Hillary did.

Katrina, the "no lobbyist" money thing is actually a boldfaced lie. Obama, instead, accepts the donations from lobbyists law partners.
According to WhiteHouseforSale.org he has had how many federal lobbyists bundle for his campaign? 9 total. Here they are:
Frank Clark employed by Commonwealth Edison from Illinois who works for the electric utilities industry is a bundler for Barack Obama and has raised more than $200,000.
Scott Harris employed by Harris Wiltshire and Grannis from D.C. who works for the lawyers and law firms industry is a bundler for Barack Obama and has raised more than $200,000.
Allan J. Katz employed by Akerman Senterfitt from Florida who works for the lawyers and law firms industry is a bundler for Barack Obama and has raised more than $200,000. He also is a member of the Florida Democratic Committee and Democratic National Committee, Tallahassee City Commissioner.
Robert S. Litt employed by Arnold & Porter from Maryland who works for the lawyers and law firms industry is a bundler for Barack Obama and has raised an amount that is not listed. Barack has not disclosed the name of this bundler. WhiteHouseForSale.org investigated and found it out.
Thomas J. Perrelli employed by Jenner and Block from from Virginia who works for the lawyers and law firms is a bundler for Barack Obama and has raised more than $200,000.
Thomas A. Reed employed by Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Preston Gates Ellis LLP from Virginia who works for the lawyers and law firms industry is a bundler for Barack Obama and has raised more than $200,000.
Paul N. Roth employed by Schulte Roth & Zabel from New York who works for the lawyers and law firms industry is a bundler for Barack Obama and has raised at least $50,000.
Alan Solomont employed by Solomont Bailis Ventures from Massachusetts who works for the Health Services/HMOs industry was the vice chair for John Kerry in 2004 and raised at least $100,000. He is now a bundler for Barack Obama and has raised more than $200,000.
No wonder Barack takes the position on single-payer health care that he does. You know the one where he says if he were building up a system from scratch he would institute a single-payer system. How convenient for the HMOs that he is saying that.
Tom E. Wheeler employed by Core Capital Partners from D.C. who works for the Misc. Finance industry (Hedge Funds?) was the vice chair for John Kerry and raised at least $100,000. He is now a bundler for Barack Obama and has raised more than $200,000.
So, in total, Barack Obama has had at least $1,450,000 donated to his campaign by federal lobbyists, federal lobbyists that he does not take money from.
More on the money he took from lobbyists in his earlier campaigns here: http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2007/08/09/pacs_and_lobbyists_aided_obamas_rise/
Obama's New Hampshire campaign chairman, Jim Demers, actually IS a lobbyist for a pharmaceutical company.

I am contributing today also.
I don't want a "Chewing Gum Jingle Man" (Hope for Change and Change for hope) as our president.
Is anyone really hearing what he is actually saying?
Posted by: DR | February 7, 2008 10:46 AM
Well let's not forget that John Kerry used his own personal funds, and even mortgaged his house to fund his primary run -- and he won. Clinton got my vote on Tuesday, and now she'll be getting some of my money too.
Posted by: Paul | February 7, 2008 10:53 AM
The Queen B thought the race was to end after Super Tuesday, that's why she's out of money. She spent it all believing the fight would have been done by now. Instead, it's going onto until the convention!
And, is "her" money coming from Dubai or elsewhere?
The Clintoons left the White House with not much money. Remember, their NY home was bought for them. Now, Hills did get the $8 million advance for her book, and that amount was BEFORE taxes. But since then, her income should only be that of a senator. Slick Willy does make millions a year in speeches. But are we to believe she "loaned" herself the $5 million? That $5 million is about what the $8 million book advance would be AFTER paying taxes on it.
Will the media investigate?

Obama took money from the spouses of lobbyists - Wake up people thats the same thing... He's getting off on a technicality.
Posted by: R. H. | February 7, 2008 11:00 AM
Why should the voting public have to fund the huge costs of getting elected? In the end the people who win end up in debt to big business and lobby groups, media groups etc. How can they start the job with all those people now expecting some kind of returns. Worse still...never believe for a second what the campaign mangers and spokes people say. They are media experts and spin doctors. Try and find a person who's policy matches yours and vote in accordance to that.

I am going to contribute $20 to Clinton because she can easily turn this into $200,000 by investing in cattle futures.
Posted by: Scott | February 7, 2008 11:12 AM
I made my first campaign contribution to Hillary today. We must keep our eye on the prize, the White House! At this point Sen. Obama is all talk and no substance. He will be too easy a target and easily demolished by the coming Right Wing Machine's attacks. That's why Obama is the right-wing media's darling right now and they want to coax us into making Obama our presidential nominee. Hillary has come through the right-wing's "machine" fire before and I think they're banking on Obama's not being able to.
Posted by: Jan Michaels | February 7, 2008 11:35 AM
We've got the Clintons exactly where we want them. Let's bury them once and for all.
Posted by: joseph pierre | February 7, 2008 12:39 PM
Why a loan? If she's that committed why have her supporters pay her back? All of your new donations will be going back into Clintons' pockets. And don't forget, we pay her salary too. Also, these people that keep accusing Obama of being, as the above post, "Chewing Gum Jingle"--get over it, there are specifics for those actually look and don't simply believe Clinton's talking points.

I donated to Clinton---AND AM DONATING MORE AFTER READING THESE NASTY OBAMA supporters comments on here.
How awful and dirty Obama and his supporters have become; showing their true character...what a turn off.

Whoever is giving money to Obama is down right stupid. It's like helping to elect another Bush. People! wake up and stop wasting your money. This is more like a cult than issues and experiences.

The American people need to wake up, wake fully up! Obama is the best candidate 360 degrees. Hillary knows that, her campaign knows that, half the American people know that, now the other half must know that. He has both the experience and the judgment and the abilities to make the change America needs, America wants. He has run the most brilliant of campaigns, better than the Clintons, better than the Republicans and he continues to run a stellar campaign. If he runs his white house like he's run his campaign, well, what can I say -- Bring Him On!!!! OBAMA '08!!

Obama's speech (October, 2002):
Good afternoon. Let me begin by saying that although this has been billed as an anti-war rally, I stand before you as someone who is not opposed to war in all circumstances.
The Civil War was one of the bloodiest in history, and yet it was only through the crucible of the sword, the sacrifice of multitudes, that we could begin to perfect this union, and drive the scourge of slavery from our soil. I don't oppose all wars.
My grandfather signed up for a war the day after Pearl Harbor was bombed, fought in Patton's army. He saw the dead and dying across the fields of Europe; he heard the stories of fellow troops who first entered Auschwitz and Treblinka. He fought in the name of a larger freedom, part of that arsenal of democracy that triumphed over evil, and he did not fight in vain.
I don't oppose all wars.
After September 11th, after witnessing the carnage and destruction, the dust and the tears, I supported this Administration's pledge to hunt down and root out those who would slaughter innocents in the name of intolerance, and I would willingly take up arms myself to prevent such a tragedy from happening again.
I don't oppose all wars. And I know that in this crowd today, there is no shortage of patriots, or of patriotism. What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war. What I am opposed to is the cynical attempt by Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz and other arm-chair, weekend warriors in this Administration to shove their own ideological agendas down our throats, irrespective of the costs in lives lost and in hardships borne.
What I am opposed to is the attempt by political hacks like Karl Rove to distract us from a rise in the uninsured, a rise in the poverty rate, a drop in the median income - to distract us from corporate scandals and a stock market that has just gone through the worst month since the Great Depression.
That's what I'm opposed to. A dumb war. A rash war. A war based not on reason but on passion, not on principle but on politics.
Now let me be clear - I suffer no illusions about Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal man. A ruthless man. A man who butchers his own people to secure his own power. He has repeatedly defied UN resolutions, thwarted UN inspection teams, developed chemical and biological weapons, and coveted nuclear capacity.
He's a bad guy. The world, and the Iraqi people, would be better off without him.
But I also know that Saddam poses no imminent and direct threat to the United States, or to his neighbors, that the Iraqi economy is in shambles, that the Iraqi military a fraction of its former strength, and that in concert with the international community he can be contained until, in the way of all petty dictators, he falls away into the dustbin of history.
I know that even a successful war against Iraq will require a US occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined cost, with undetermined consequences. I know that an invasion of Iraq without a clear rationale and without strong international support will only fan the flames of the Middle East, and encourage the worst, rather than best, impulses of the Arab world, and strengthen the recruitment arm of al-Qaeda.
I am not opposed to all wars. I'm opposed to dumb wars.
So for those of us who seek a more just and secure world for our children, let us send a clear message to the president today. You want a fight, President Bush? Let's finish the fight with Bin Laden and al-Qaeda, through effective, coordinated intelligence, and a shutting down of the financial networks that support terrorism, and a homeland security program that involves more than color-coded warnings.
You want a fight, President Bush? Let's fight to make sure that the UN inspectors can do their work, and that we vigorously enforce a non-proliferation treaty, and that former enemies and current allies like Russia safeguard and ultimately eliminate their stores of nuclear material, and that nations like Pakistan and India never use the terrible weapons already in their possession, and that the arms merchants in our own country stop feeding the countless wars that rage across the globe.
You want a fight, President Bush? Let's fight to make sure our so-called allies in the Middle East, the Saudis and the Egyptians, stop oppressing their own people, and suppressing dissent, and tolerating corruption and inequality, and mismanaging their economies so that their youth grow up without education, without prospects, without hope, the ready recruits of terrorist cells.
You want a fight, President Bush? Let's fight to wean ourselves off Middle East oil, through an energy policy that doesn't simply serve the interests of Exxon and Mobil.
Those are the battles that we need to fight. Those are the battles that we willingly join. The battles against ignorance and intolerance. Corruption and greed. Poverty and despair.
The consequences of war are dire, the sacrifices immeasurable. We may have occasion in our lifetime to once again rise up in defense of our freedom, and pay the wages of war. But we ought not - we will not - travel down that hellish path blindly. Nor should we allow those who would march off and pay the ultimate sacrifice, who would prove the full measure of devotion with their blood, to make such an awful sacrifice in vain.
Lets turn the page,
VOTE OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT!
Posted by: FOR THE LOVE OUR COUNTRY | February 7, 2008 4:03 PM
If Obama is elected President, he will take office with as much, or more, experience as an elected official than any other president in the past 30 years - more than Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan
and George W. Bush; the same as George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton; and significantly more than Hillary Clinton.
Although he only has a few years in Washington, that is still more than either Ronald Reagan or Bill Clinton had - they came from their state's governor's mansion and had ZERO experience as an elected official in Washington.
So all that experience comparison is just nonsense.

THE MEDIA HAS BEEN RIPPING HILLARY ALL THESE TIME! THEY ARE EXPERTS IN CHOOSING A PRESIDENT FOR US. But I just donated money to Hillary yesterday because I knew her experience and track record counts very importantly. I KNEW what Bill Clinton has done for the poor because I saw it with my own eyes, how the poor on 47th street, Chicago turned their life around. At that time I was a non-voting resident and I can witness this. I now understand why the under-class, the lower working class voted for Hillary. Because we know. The middle-middle class, upper middle class liberals, young people, etc. like Obama because they like his talk that warms their hearts, makes them feel like they are with the poor, thus they can make the nation better. The difference is they can afford an on-job training president and we cannot!! We are already at the bottom, any failure will drive us off the cliff. We know that! So, all ye good liberals, so much for your support for us. By the way, why should I send a democrat to the White House who already said he will work with the Republicans? Didn't the Republicans already have more than their fair share in the House? Why are some democrats so afraid of losing to the Republicans when this time around the Democrats could have the White House given to them in gift wrap if they just unite? Didn't someone say we should not be afraid, and that we should have hope, and that the time has come, and that we should claim our destiny??

Did anyone see this - very apprpriate: When a sexist idiot screamed "Iron my shirt!" at HRC, it was considered amusing; if a racist idiot shouted "Shine my shoes!" at BO, it would've inspired hours of airtime and pages of newsprint analyzing our national dishonor.

Hope is very vague.
Change is very vague.
Rhetoric doesn't move us forward, music videos and having a good personality doesn't gain our respect around the world.
Name one thing Obama has done, besides make a healthcare plan, in mirror image of her plan because he knew if he didn't have one, there was no way he could compete with her.
Right after she released her stimulus package idea, he released his.
What will he do when he can't copy Hillary anymore? The true leader.
Posted by: Chris | February 7, 2008 7:48 PM
I just donated $1500.00 to her campaign fun.
Obama-mama might've won more states, but look at those states: North Dakota, Alaska, etc. Do they mean anything? No. Do they make an impact? No.
Hillary won the biggest state: CALIFORNIA. In addition to NEW YORK & NEW JERSEY.
question: why doesn't Barack Obama ever introduce his sister?? Could it be because she is MUSLIM?? The man is a crack smoking, freak. There's a video on youtube about him getting oral sex from another man.
Posted by: Chris | February 7, 2008 9:06 PM
You can say what you want. . .but keep it clean. Obama and Clinton will both make great President!
But Hillary is more experience and will get Universal Healthcare done!
Just remember Democracy. Get up and vote! Don't let things put you down. Don't say it won't make a difference if I go or not go vote! If you elect someone with your beliefs, things will change for sure! And, that's what they don't want you to know!
Posted by: Lou | February 7, 2008 11:02 PM
Obama has nothing to offer this country but flowery rhetoric. Wake up! He talks and talks but still isn't saying anything!! Maybe because he doesn't have anything to say! He doesn't have any experience. I am donating to Hillary.

Hillary is crying "whoa is me", I now have to dig in my own wallet to pay, (while waiting coquettishly for others to grab theirs to pay). This...an embarrassment to the empowered female. Hillary...your strategy worked, you sucked them in once again. Crying wouldn't have worked as well this time. You are good at using your "female ways".

The more this campaign goes on and the more we get to know Obama, the more I'm leaning Republican if Hillary doesn't win. Obama has not been honest about his campaign financing, the more money he collects the scarier he is, he was not honest about his relationship with indicted Rezko slum land lord, his land deal with Rezko, and his relationship with Odinga is scary.
Posted by: marie | February 8, 2008 3:02 AM
I think Hillary is doing well in the race, despite being low on funds. Hillary may not have the charisma that Obama has and that may be the reason why she is low on funds, but she has the appropriate skills to be the one of the greatest presidents.
Posted by: Mikey | February 8, 2008 3:20 AM
From the first time I ever heard the Name Hillary, the press in particular the Right Wing has crucified her, yet she has overcome all that and continues to show her love for this country and all the people in it. Oh how welcomed a woman that not only does not succumb to the Republicanegativity, she continues to grow stronger and is willing to show just how much she believes in her own abilities by loaning her own money. As for me,.. I'd rather have this experienced woman in the White House, knowing that she is neither a whiner or a whimp and that if anyone can clean up the mess that the Republicans have made of this country she can.
Question??? Out of all the negative Hillary and Clinton bashing... who did you vote for... Bush or Gore,... then Bush or Kerry? The possibility of another another macho male??.. what kind of change is that? I am not bashing Obama,... I like him, but I don't believe that it is HIS time,... unlike the Obama supporters who show thier support by bashing the Clintons, especially Hillary.
