Saturday Night Live's rendition of the Clinton-Obama debate.

by Rick Pearson

BOSTON — Hillary Clinton’s campaign has long felt that Barack Obama has been the beneficiary of favorable media coverage in the Democratic presidential contest while she has received harsh treatment.

But now her campaign is finding some comfort from a weekend comedy show and Clinton, herself, told supporters Sunday night that she has “this sense that finally my opponent is getting maybe a little bit of scrutiny.”

“How many of you saw Saturday Night Live?” she asked at a fundraiser in Boston, her campaign saying she collected about $500,000 for the evening.

The opening of SNL on Saturday night featured a spoof of Thursday night’s CNN/Univision debate from Austin, Texas, with the host and questioners proclaiming they were in the “tank” for Obama while Clinton’s role was marginalized.

A second skit favorable to the Clinton forces was a return appearance by former SNL regular Tina Fey back at her news anchor desk. Fey, paying homage to women in the news, noted the progress of women getting active in politics. “Women today feel perfectly free to make whatever choice Oprah tells them to,” she said as the screen flashed a picture of Oprah and her choice for president, Obama.

The SNL debate skit wasn’t parody to some major Clinton supporters attending the fundraiser.

“It’s about time somebody showed the bias of the media, the national media,” Massachusetts state Senate President Therese Murphy of Plymouth told a crowded auditorium about the skit.

Complaining that it is impossible to see a good news story about the New York senator in the newspapers, Murphy complained: “It’s all four pages of Obama and one page of what Hillary did wrong.”

Comments such as those helped stir the crowd. A pair of older women, walking alongside the chartered bus used to ferry reporters to Clinton events, began shouting at reporters and complaining they were unfair to their candidate.

Clinton, herself, told supporters that in her view, media scrutiny of Obama “wouldn’t have happened just a couple of weeks ago (but) people are starting to say, ‘Hey, you know what? We have two candidates. We’ve been a little more focused on one than the other in terms of asking the hard questions, looking at the record and let’s start looking at both of them.’”

Still, Clinton acknowledged later to reporters traveling aboard her campaign plane that she hadn’t seen the SNL skits. She said that from what she was told it “sounds like it was great, both of them.”

With little more than a week left before the March 4 primaries in Texas and Ohio that will decide the fate of her campaign, Clinton says she plans to become even more aggressive in challenging the front-running Obama.

Obama, in an e-mailed fundraising solicitation sent out early this morning, said March 4 “could be the decisive day in this campaign” and said “as we spending time on the ground” in both delegate-rich states, “we are gaining strength.”

But Clinton said, “We are going to emphasize more and more the experience gap” between herself, a former first lady and two term senator, and her rival, a former state legislator and first-term senator. Clinton’s efforts to ride the experience banner has had only limited success so far as she has struggled to find a message that will resonate with voters amid exit polling showing voters favoring Obama’s mantra of change.

But Clinton noted a pair of signs that were held up by a pro-union crowd at a late evening rally at a Houston labor hall on Saturday night—“We want experience not an experiment” and “The White House is no place for training wheels.

“All of these differences (with Obama) you’re going to hear a lot about the next eight days,” she said.

Just when you think she couldn't top herself she does, I will say that for her campaign. Her pro-labor stance makes her a puppet for them, yess boss!
Spinners will spin , that's what they are paid to do. She has no real response for "The Status Quo has got to Go" ! !

What is absolutely hilarious about this Democratic primary season is the Clinton hypocirsy. For years they stuffed affirmative action down the throats of America. How do you suppose they like affirmative action now? The question for all you Obama supporters is simple. Republicans have been hearing from Democrats for 8 years how wonderful the economy was in the 1990's with the Clintons in the White House. Why aren't you bringing them back?

Sen. Clinton is having a meltdown of Biblical proportions! I went to Catholic school and YEA all nuns are *******!

Yes, there will be media hand-wringing over their subtle racism in giving Obama a complete pass. Then there will be buyers remorse among the media and many Obama Kool-Aid drinkers when they realize a complete unknown is thisclose to becoming President. And then the media will shred McCain to pieces and again give a pass to Obama. Yes, that SNL skit was so funny - I'm going to puke.

Doesn't this sum it all up nicely? A lame candidate going down in flames finds comfort from lame SNL skits performed in a lame SNL season. Like the radio reporter said at another crash site, "Oh the humanity!"

Wow. The difference in media coverage has been so stark and obvious, I sometimes wonder if the Obama "fans" have had time to get their eyes and ears out of the clouds and actually do a little research on the subject. She "pesters" while he "challenges", when she is up by 200 delegates it is a "near tie and virtual dead heat", when he is up 60, it is a "blowout" and "it's over". Come on folks, even if you are blindly in love with your man, at least try to be open-minded on what has happened in this country. A media "lovefest" with Obama, an artist who paints with words, and a crucifixion of Hillary, because she is a strong, accomplished, hard-working woman with a plan. Just look back at some MSNBC tapes and you'll see the ridiculous "coverage" by our so called media. If she doesn't win this on her experience and we elect another "likable" candidate who will "unite the country", I am going to move. Goooo Hillary - you rock!

Hillary B 5150!!!

He most certainly does need more scrutiny, all the candidates do. I did notice though that Obama supporters are getting particularly vulgar and childish in their comments to various online blogs and news sites the last few days. It's tough when the tables start to turn, isn't it? Perhaps you aren't hoping enough?

It appears obvious to me that the major news organizational "spin-doctor's": Fox News, CNN, MSNBC; Mr. Russert, Chris Matthew's, are all in favor of Hillary Clinton. These shows all feature stories with the Premise: How can Hillary Beat Obama? In fact, the moderators for the most recent debate chose questions to ask the candidates based on Hillary's aqusation about Obama. Every show is devoted to: How can Hillary win and overcome Obama? What things should Hillary focus on to weaken voters perception of Obama? Then, you had Ralph Nadar interviewed on Meet the Press, and they asked him what he thought of Obama; not what he thought of Hillary. Nader said some damaging things he felt Hillary should use against Obama; for example, he mention Obama was pro-Palenstine when he was a State Senator. I never heard that, but I'm repeating what Nader said. In other words, bias, racism, is being used very subtly here. And, I have noticed that these same "talking heads" refer to Obama as a "evangelist", magica, spiritual, heavenly. The stereotype hear is a poke at Black Clergymen. Since the Black Church was the only Public Forum African Americans historically could be free to speak their minds many intellectual leaders came out of the Black Church. Martin Luther King. The stereotype is Obama is a preacher like Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton; but, he has no intellect to be a President. This is very unfortunate and I know people with common sense and picking these biases up. You know, when Abraham Lincoln ran for president he was the least experienced of all his opponents; yet, he became one of the greatest American President's of all time.

"The question for all you Obama supporters is simple. Republicans have been hearing from Democrats for 8 years how wonderful the economy was in the 1990's with the Clintons in the White House. Why aren't you bringing them back?"

ANSWER: Overall excellence among Democrats. We can go from better to best, without recycling one family since 1980...

Never would have imagined that the smartest woman in America and the first lady of the first black president would have ever been treated so shabbily by the liberal media and those who would otherwise be supporting her now if the Hope and Change Messiah had not come along. Personality and glossy rhetoric seems to just trump everything in the surreal world that democrats operate in, even when it torpedos one that has been so faithful to the cause. Come on you guys, you all are all about fairness. Give your fellow Socialist a break.

This merely means that GE wants to ensure McCain gets in. He is anti telecomm reform. Hilary or Obama would be for that--I hope--because of John Edwards' media reform plank. No meltdown from Hilary--merely demanding, and finally receiving because of her demand, an examination of Obama's health care plan. His Harvard economist is WRONG--if the health care plan fails we will NOT get a second chance--it needs to be done right the first time. We can demand our congressional reps and senators (even those running for office end the war funding now, stop the tcom spying immunity that affects everyone on this blog and the journalists producing it (courage!) and pass health care during and in spite of this ridiculous election season. Then we can pollice the vote so republicans don't steal it (I wanna see SNL do something funny about that) and then get the instant runoff second choice ballots in play for next time.
Glad SNL saw through not Obamamania--but the media laziness regarding the issues. I got no problems with kids being excited--but while they're paying attention, let's educate them too.

The funny thing is that Obama really is being given a pass- and people in his home state could care less that he refuses to represent us at all while galavanting about the country, campaigning for president since before he was elected to the senate! The most glaring evidence is with the most recent NIU tragedy. Dick Durbin, the "senior" senator from Illinois, has been there for us through thick and thin, but Barack "Jesus Christ" Obama is nowhere in sight, hasn't come home to visit at the school, and has proven just how useless he is. Keep walking on water, buddy.

If she can't manage the personalities in her campaign staff, how on earth will she do, when managing the world?

Us Obama supporters don't put anyone on a pedestal! We just want
to elect a Democrat President in Nov that can bring Americans together and end the grid lock
in Washinton D.C.

PS I will always be a fan of SNL.

Referencing current SNL skits for your stump speeches? Um, okay.

Betsy: "if the health care plan fails we will NOT get a second chance--it needs to be done right the first time."

So are you endorsing Barack when you speak of getting it right the first time? THe first time for Health Care Reform was performed under the guidance of your Warrior Queen Hillary who united the Democratic and REpublican congress against her.

Or were you speaking about getting it right about the vote to go to war? Or the hard line stance on Iran?

The Warrior Queen's claim to fame has been all too often in her "comebacks."

Even during this campaign, she was outstrategized, outspent, lost more states, insulted more voters, and continually changed both staff and positions.

THanks for the endorsement though.

Strut2K: You're selling out your heroes for polish and no substance. Amazing what back-stabbing liberals will do to each other...In politics my friend, it's not "what have you done for me lately?"..it's "what have you done?" Let your hero Obama explain that...

Good idea! Let's scrutinize...

HILLARY VS. OBAMA LEGISLATIVE RECORDS:
During Obama's (8) eight years in the Illinois State Senate, he sponsored over 820 bills - 233 regarding health care reform, 125 on poverty and public assistance, 112 crime fighting bills, 97 economic, 60 human rights / anti-discrimination, 21 ethics reform, 15 gun control, 6 veterans affairs. IN ADDITION, DURING HIS FIRST YEAR IN THE U.S. SENATE, HE AUTHORED 152 BILLS AND CO-SPONSORED ANOTHER 427. THESE INCLUDED:

*The Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006 (became law)
*The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act, (became law)
*The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act, passed the Senate
*The 2007 Government Ethics Bill, (became law)
*The Protection Against Excessive Executive Compensation Bill, (In committee)

Since Obama entered the US Senate, he has written over 890 bills, and co-sponsored another 1,096. A VERY IMPRESSIVE RECORD, FOR SOMEONE WHO SUPPOSEDLY HAS "NO RECORD."

Hillary Clinton, who has served six (6) years in the U.S. Senate, and claims to know how to "get things done" has somehow managed to pass only twenty (20) pieces of legislation:

1. Establish the Kate Mullany National Historic Site.
2. Support the goals and ideals of Better Hearing and Speech Month.
3. Recognize the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.
4. Name courthouse after Thurgood Marshall.
5. Name courthouse after James L. Watson.
6. Name post office after Jonn A. O'Shea.
7. Designate Aug. 7, 2003, as National Purple Heart Recognition Day.
8. Support the goals and ideals of National Purple Heart Recognition Day.
9. Honor the life and legacy of Alexander Hamilton on the bicentennial of his death.
10. Congratulate the Syracuse Univ. Orange Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the championship.
11. Congratulate the Le Moyne College Dolphins Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the championship.
12. Establish the 225th Anniversary of the American Revolution Commemorative Program.
13. Name post office after Sergeant Riayan A. Tejeda.
14. Honor Shirley Chisholm for her service to the nation and express condolences on her death.
15. Honor John J. Downing, Brian Fahey, and Harry Ford, firefighters who lost their lives on duty.

ONLY FIVE (5) OF HILLARY'S BILLS HAVE ANY REAL SUBSTANCE:
16. Extend period of unemployment assistance to victims of 9/11.
17. Pay for city projects in response to 9/11
18. Assist land mine victims in other countries.
19. Assist family caregivers in accessing affordable respite care.
20. Designate part of the National Forest System in Puerto Rico as protected in the wilderness preservation system.

The Jr. Senator from Illinois does need to be vetted asap.
This is not an election for American Idol or Dancing with the Stars. This is not a popularity contest. It's not "Amway" or "Tupperware" we are joining. This is electing someone for President of the United States!

When Obama Fever finally subsides and the Democratic Party faces sobering November, EXPERIENCE will play a key factor in the general election and foreign policy and security will once again take center stage.

More scrutiny....Obama has had his scrutiny. Senator Clinton needs hers....Whitewater/Failed Health Plan when she was 1st lady/ Failed NAFTA/ and her position on her philandering husband as president who caused Al Gore not to get elected. Do you really want an embarrasing dynasty like the last Bush dynasty. And do you really want McCain who will extend the Bush Administration policies......

You Could Be Voting your Rights Away!!!

http://www.naturalnews.com/022707.html

I'm sorry but Eddie Murphy would have been a funnier Barack than this guy. This skit, comparatively, sucked...big time. I didn't even smile.
Come on SNL, the actual debate had funnier moments than this.

My concern is that we are a democracy and yet have managed to elect presidents from only two families in the last 20 years once Bush finishes his term. If Hillary wins, and serves 4-8 years we're looking at these same two families running the country for up to 28 years! Bush(4), B.Clinton(8),Bush(8) and Clinton...4-8. That is frightening to me...in a country this size we an only come upu with members of two families who are competant enough to be President???

Funny how the media is so unfairly favorable towards Obama and yet I can't go a day without reading another columnist calling Obama a cult, a fake, an "empty suit", predicting "buyers remorse", etc etc.

And yet not a single negative column on McCain. And most of the ones on Clinton are about how she's a scrapper.

If she's really in this to get the nomination, does Hillary think offending and mocking the supporters of Obama is going to help her win the White House?

I personally will vote for her regardless, because I don't want to see another repub in the White House, but there are many who won't after all of her mockery and negativity.

Nader will be the spoiler again if she wins the nomination.

Just to set the record straight, Sen. Obama was at the memorial service at NIU yesterday consoling the families of those who were killed, but he did not feel it was appropriate to make a speech there and politicize this tragedy.

We should all support whichever candidate we choose, but baseless claims and mud-slinging don't help anyone but McCain (and now Nader I guess).

Obama has had a 'free pass' since Iowa - sorry Obamaniacs, but he is by far to weaker candidate to face McCain. And all of those polls showing him running strongly against McCain? REPUBLICANS VOTE FOR HIM IN THOSE POLLS BECAUSE THEY KNOW HE IS THE WEAKER CANDIDATE!!! Obama has no foreign policy experience and if he were to get the nomination would have no choice but to pick a foreign policy credentialled VP - leaving him few options (Biden?! / Richardson?) he needs to be Hillary VP - that is the best ticket for the DEMS!

I see her lips moving but all I hear are, "WAAA... WAAA, It's not fair! WAAA!"

Billy,
You give us Republicans FAR too much credit. We are not that cleverly diabolical.

The fantasy that the media have no interest in digging up potential news stories is curiously resurgent. If they could pin something negative and substantive on Obama, it would be out there on the 24-hour news. It may yet be. But repeatedly insisting that the absence of smoke can only be explained by the failure of everyone around to look for smoke doesn't say much for the Clinton campaign's opinion of voters.

Meanwhile, as Newsday scrutinizes Clinton's past as a lawyer, it's emerging that being married to a presidential candidate doesn't mean being vetted in the same way as being the candidate. (Or running almost unopposed for the Senate.)

To switch topics: Billy, the idea that there is a vast conspiracy involving everyone in the nation who responds to pollsters (See e.g. RCP polls) is a spin attempt worthy of the HRC campaign. Unfortunately.

Yes Hillary say anything for the media and the American public to distract from you. Where are your tax returns? So it's okay for you not to show them until after the nomination, huh? If that had been Barack, the media would've blasted that story every day until the nomination. And why didn't you give credit to your husband when you recently said, "Shame on you, Barack Obama.." when it was Bill Clinton who said it first, two months ago when he was angry at a reporter interviewing him he angrily said to the interviewer, "Shame on you, Barack Obama put you up to this." The media has been scrutinizing Barack Obama from the very beginning, but of course when you have so much dirt like the Clintons do it would always seem your opponent isn't being scrutinized at all in comparison because nobody has as huge a bag of dirt as the Clintons.

Obama has no sense some times such as when he dressed up as a Somali elder. The problem with dressing up like a Somali elder is that they favor FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION and there is no likelihood in the foreseeable future that the "Somali elders would repudiate the hideous practice of female genital mutilation." http://www.vdare.com/walker/lewiston.htm
Well over 90% of Somali females suffer the barbaric procedure often euphemistically referred to as FGM.http://www.nilc.org/immlawpolicy/asylrefs/ar127.htm

"For years [the Democrats] stuffed affirmative action down the throats of America. How do you suppose they like affirmative action now?" -KP

Hillary Clinton should be applauding Barack Obama, I know am. But there’s more to it than Hillary being elected President of the United States. As POTUS, Hillary also appoints a cabinet of hand picked secular progressives, who oversee every aspect of our daily lives – and at least 300 other high-ranking government and non-government officials, both at home and abroad – all to cater to her every whim. A 10x12 color glossy of Hillary's warm, smiling face adorns every government office, and every law enforcement agency from coast to coast. And, there’s no end to the stuff you can get away with as president. As long-time FOB & FOH Lanny Davis says, The president of the United States can do anything he [she] wants: http://theseedsof9-11.com

I refer to Mia's interesting comparison of Senator Obama's and Clinton Legislative records. On this and other comparisons it would be bone headed to vote for anyone else other than Senator Obama.
Senator Clinton refuses to disclose her tax records since she left the White House where she, supposedly got all this experience she never stops telling everyone about.(What did Bill do there.)
Oh yes,how successful was the Health programme she was asked to develope?
Being the politician she is,I'm sure she will be able to apportion the blame to some vague reason in the past which will be believed by the ever decreasing minority who support her.
