Lou Dobbs for President?
Americans for Legal Immigration, a group that favors a hard line against illegal immigration, has been pushing the candidacy of the cantankerous CNN host for some time now. But it re-launched a Lou Dobbs campaign Web site this week, now that John McCain is the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.
In part, this can be seen as a protest message in a campaign where the three remaining candidates favor a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants and a relatively moderate approach toward them. But William Gheen, president and spokesman of the group, known as ALIPAC, said the campaign is no stunt.
So far, 2,034 people have pledged $509,825 if Dobbs decides to run, he said. Gheen hopes that the site will generate enough interest to convince Dobbs to enter the 2008 presidential race.
“We want to show Lou that there’s a pre-established base out there that he can use to quickly re-energize the campaign,” Gheen said. Gheen said that if Dobbs decides to run, ALIPAC would give Dobbs the information that the Web site collects.
ALIPAC intends to promote the campaign using the group’s e-mail lists. Gheen said he would also post a letter on the site urging Dobbs to quickly decide whether he will run.
Dobbs—a self-described “independent populist” who has spoken out against illegal immigration and corporate influence in government—sparked rumors last November of a possible run when he predicted that an independent populist would win the presidential election. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal last month, Dobbs said that while he didn’t have the personality to run for office, he “cannot say never.”
According to its Web site, ALIPAC’s mission is to “address the disparity between the public’s desire for more control of illegal immigration and the actions of lawmakers,” saying that 75 percent of Americans “want more done to control illegal immigration.” Stories with headlines like “McCain Madness” or “Outbreak: Leprosy in Arkansas Brought Here by Illegal Aliens,” and a nearly 2,000-word article called “Why the illegals must go” are posted on the site.
ALIPAC has developed a platform for Dobbs, which Gheen said is based on Dobbs’s show, ALIPAC’s understanding of Dobbs’s ideology and polling data. He added that the platforms could change if Dobbs throws his hat into the race.
As John McCain closes in on the Republican presidential nomination, Gheen said that Dobbs could be an appealing choice for anti-immigration voters. Republican candidates like Ron Paul and Mitt Romney have split the anti-immigration vote, Gheen said. But Dobbs could be the candidate to unite it.
“People are really not happy with McClintobama,” Gheen said, adding that he thinks that McCain and Democrats Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have similar stances on immigration. Gheen said that there is dissatisfaction within both parties on the issue of immigration.
But Alan I. Abramowitz, a political science professor at Emory University in Atlanta and author of “Voice of the People: Elections and Voting in the United States,” said that immigration does not seem to be a high priority among voters. He said that polls that ask about issues important to voters have immigration outranked by the economy, the war in Iraq and health care.
“Immigration isn’t a salient issue to most Americans, and many of those who do care about immigration are going to vote for McCain,” Abramowitz said. “I just don’t see that issue as creating a third party movement.”
But Gheen contends that Dobbs’s support of legal immigration is part of a bigger issue. “Lou Dobbs is onto the real issue, which goes beyond immigration,” Gheen said. “It’s about whether people or big business run the United States.”
One problem is that there is not a large pool of voters from which Dobbs could potentially draw support, Abramowitz said.
“The overall level of dissatisfaction with the major parties is low,” he said, adding that voter turnout for the Democratic Party has been particularly high in the 2008 primaries. He also said that he thinks the “large majority” of Republicans would eventually unite behind McCain, especially if Clinton becomes the Democratic nominee.
Ross Perot, who ran as a third-party candidate in the 1992 election, did reasonably well because a number of voters were disenchanted with the major party candidates, Abramowitz said, even though in the end Perot did not win a single state in the general election.
But Abramowitz said independent voters do not vote as a united bloc.
“Between two-thirds and three-fourths of independents lean toward one party or the other,” Abramowitz said. “The remaining group makes up about 10 percent of the electorate.”
He added that these true independents often do not vote.
“I don’t see much potential for a third party or independent candidate” in this election, Abramowitz said.
Abramowitz also said that liberal to moderate Republicans might also be available, but he said that these groups are not large.
“It’s not much of a base to build a campaign on,” Abramowitz said.
Abramowitz also said that Dobbs sends too much of a “mixed message” to be a successful candidate. While some of Dobbs’s populist ideas might appeal to Democrats, conservative Republicans would be more likely favor his stance on immigration.
A possible Dobbs run for the presidency does not indicate an ideological change for the Republican Party, Abramowitz said. “McCain has been moderate on immigration, but so has President Bush until recently,” he said. “It’s still an issue that really divides them.”
Abramowitz also said it is doubtful that Dobbs would leave his lucrative position at CNN to pursue the campaign.
“I’m skeptical about the whole idea,” Abramowitz said.
Nonetheless, Gheen said that once the ALIPAC Web site reaches $1 million in pledges, he would meet with Dobbs to see if he interested in running for president. Until then, Gheen said that Dobbs’s producers have promised that Dobbs will read the site’s guest book.

He's an idiot. Jon Stewart proved it. Chris Matthews too, BTW. (Proven idiot)
And anyone that would vote for him is one also, I'm afraid.

What's NOT being reported. This is Obama, his words not mine. Giving up US Sovereignty.

The issue of immigration shouldn’t be used as a “political football,” Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said Tuesday.
Obama spoke at a rally in San Antonio, a city with a heavy Hispanic population. Obama said the government should be trying to come to a solution on the issue rather than trying to score “cheap political points.”
Obama says border security has to be combined with a pathway to citizenship for people who are already in the U.S.
Obama’s statements were met with cheers. Before his address, some in the crowd chanted “Si, se puede!” — the Spanish equivalent of “Yes, we can!”
Obama also addressed the issue of home foreclosures at a roundtable discussion earlier in the day, saying both the African-American and Hispanic communities “have been disproportionately affected.”
Obama was scheduled to hold another rally Tuesday night in Houston. Texas holds its primary on March 4th. More than 220 delegates are at stake in the contest, more than half of whom will be apportioned based on the primary.

Lou Dobbs gets it. None of the presidential candidates do.
Excerpt from 'Independents Day' by Lou Dobbs:
"The key difference between our two parties is purely partisan: While Democrats describe themselves as liberal, progressive, and committed to civil liberties, and Republicans describe themselves as conservative and committed to tradition and social stability, the truth is, their only guiding principles are that Democrats are anti-Republican while Republicans are anti-Democrat. They have become nothing more than two wings of the same bird.
If the distinction between Republicans and Democrats is blurred and increasingly unclear, it’s in large part due to the fact that both parties are dependent on the largesse of corporate America and the influence of special interests. Bush has sent tens of thousands of our troops around the world to fight the war on terror, and hundreds of thousands to Iraq and Afghanistan, yet for 6 years he has insisted upon leaving our borders and ports open to the illegal traffic of millions of illegal aliens and billions of dollars in illegal drugs."

Lou Dobbs from Independents Day:
"The two party system is dysfunctional regarding following Constitutional principles and representing the needs of the people and the protection and best interests of the country. They are now committed to the largest campaign contributors, the special interests with the biggest handout and loudest voice and all types of corporate and big business supporters.
The issue today is the same as it has been throughout all history, whether man shall be allowed to govern himself or be ruled by a small elite."

What a huge breath of fresh air should Lou Dobbs throw his hat in the ring. I would definitely vote for him. Not only is he the only MSM news anchor taking on illegal immigration (which he is totally correct on), he has taken on the economy, special interests, lobbyist influence peddling, government corruption, truth in government, religion in politics, free trade and favored trade status issues, national security, the folly of the Iraq War and how contractors are becoming enriched from it, middle class erosion and American worker protection, outsourcing jobs for larger corporate profit, excessive issuance of H-1B visas, our crumbling infrastructure, education, food safety and inspections, the environment, China's dangerous imports and its influence on our national deficit, NAFTA, SPP, NAU, LOST, ridiculous government treaties, crime, drugs, racial issues and the list goes on.
Lou Dobbs has talked about, taken stances on, exposed and researched more issues than any other presidential candidate ever has or ever will.

Remove bi-lingual education and it is one way to contend with illegal immigrants. As long as we provide immigrants with their "native" language in America, it only works to encourages non-English speaking immigrants (mostly Mexicans to come here because they do not have to make any social adjustments that come with learning a new language). Bi-lingual education fragments our society where you see enclaves or neighborhoods that are entirely in foreign languages, not English. The question arises, "If illegals can come across the border and just continue life as usual, what is not to prevent them from doing so?" Maybe, we can begin to discourage illegals by removing bi-lingual education from the public schools (private schools can choose to continue it). Once we deal with the removal of a competitive language in our schools, we can foresee in future generations, less identifying with the origin country and more assimilation into a true American society. The "border" will be harder when the language and its fragmented neighborhoods are gone. Only then can we call ourselves true Americans whose past came from differnet nations, but whose future is ONE.

Lou Dobbs is THE ONLY person in the major media that has called out Mexico's blatant meddling in our political affairs and their direct support for promoting the invasion of our country by their nationals. The only politician that has had the hutzpah to call out Mexico’s meddling and Felipe Calderon’s obvious attempt to justify dumping Mexico’s poor onto the U.S. for employment, education and care is Tom Tancredo. I consider both of these men true American Patriots.

Wake up America, your country is being destroyed by all of this legal and illegal immigration...soon you won't be able to get a decent paying job, your like a bunch of lambs being led to slaughter, while they are taking your country away.. How many people do you think they should let in, is there any limit at all. You better educate yourself to what is happening here before it is to late. If your laughing about what is happening in this country you must not have children or grandchildren since you are willing to give up your country to 3rd worlders from Mexico and all points beyond including India and all over Asia. Our country has lost all control.

Lou Dobbs from Independents Day:
"Companies rely on illegal immigrants to do jobs they aren’t willing to pay much for. In 1980 a meat-packing job paid 19 dollars an hour but today that same job pays closer to 9 dollars an hour, according to the Labor Department. Illegal aliens depress wages for U.S. workers by as much as $200 billion a year, in addition to placing a tremendous burden on hospitals, schools and other social services."

To those on this post who refer to Lou Dobbs as a racist, know the following:
Mr. Dobbs is himself married to a Mexican immigrant and has his Mexican immigrant mother and father in law living in his home. Mr. Dobbs as a young man worked in the fields alongside migrant workers in Texas where he is from. There is no political candidate or news anchor with that type of firsthand knowledge and experience on the issue of our Nation’s borders. Mr. Dobbs has children with his Mexican wife Debi and if you agree with the positions he takes or not, I doubt you can possibly think that he is racist towards his wife and kids.
To those of you who would refer to Lou as a “know nothing news man”, a little bit of reading would reveal that Lou who came from humble beginnings earned a degree in economics from Harvard. His career as a journalist has been long and distinguished.

Lou Dobbs from Independents Day:
"The illegal immigration and border security crisis had been building for over 40 years. In signing the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 into law, Pres. Johnson promised it would not be revolutionary or affect the life of Americans, even as it overturned sixty years of U.S. immigration policy of national origin quotas and led to the creation of explosive chain migration. Twenty one years later, president
Reagan signed into law amnesty for more than three million illegal aliens who had entered the country. Reagan promised that new employer sanctions would “remove the incentive for illegal immigration by eliminating the job opportunities”, and that the law’s amnesty provision would allow millions who were hiding in the shadows to “step into the sunlight.”
And then 21 years later more false promises from hollow politicians for more amnesty. Fortunately, an aware American people turned back the ploy and the plan for the destabilization of America came crashing down."

Lou Dobbs from Independents Day:
"Had the US secured its borders and ports after September 11, not only would the American people be better protected against terrorism, but illegal immigration wold not now be a national crisis. Had corporate America not chosen to import illegal aliens, not chosen to employ them and exploit them in defiance of U.S. law, there would be no illegal immigration crisis. Had the federal government enforced already existing immigration law against both illegal employers and illegal aliens, there would be no crisis."

Lou Dobbs would make a great candidate. Imagine a candidate who really has the interests of the citizens in mind instead of special interests. Plus he understands economics, that was his major.
And what's with the 'anti-immigration?' Doesn't the author mean 'anti-illegal immigration?' Quite a difference.

Lou Dobbs is an arrogant windbag and a racebaiter. Remember that Lou is also staunchly against offshoring and outsourcing but was willing to entertain offers from not just other American news networks but also the BBC and other foreign networks back in 2000 when he was holding out for a better deal from CNN.
This hypocrite would be laughed out of the race faster than Tancredo.

Perhaps a Dobbs 3rd party effort would have the salutory effect of at least re-injecting the immigration issue back into the Presidential discussion.
Obama and McLain are identical on the issue.
How can the esteemed academic from Georgia call McCain a "moderate" on the issue? He co-sponsored the amnesty bill with Teddy Kennedy.
How can he say the issue lacks salience, when last Spring irate voters shut down the Senate switchboard with an overload of calls and forced the amnesty advocates to retreat from McCain's bill with their tails between their legs?
Posted by: politwriter | February 20, 2008 4:54 AM
I'ts possible to sympathize Dobbs views on certain issues, and think if he stuck with them he'd be alright. But when it comes to illegal immigrant bashing and scapegoating rhetoric, he's an a-hole. Racists definitely love him for it. Besides he's a control-freak. What would he tell foreign leaders that disagreed with him? Would he tell them they're "nuts" and "a joke"?

Lou has become a shrill harpie, bleating out a boring one note chorus. For the past year we've watched as he's decended further and further into his own hypnotic anger-cum-madness. This isn't the movie "Network" where all you have to do is go to the window - in his case, the teleprompter - and scream "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more!" Lou, take a long vacation, calm down and try to come back as a real journalist instead of a Rant.
Posted by: snalg | February 20, 2008 8:44 AM
I've been thinking Lou's going to run for a long time now. McCain wrapping up the domination pretty well ensures it.
Bad news for McCain and the Republicans. Dobbs will siphon off a chunk of the conservative vote that isn't thrilled with McCain anyway with his xenophobic drivel.
He's a dishonest race baiter, but that will get him at least 5% of the vote come November. A sad commentary on our nation.

DC is full of self serving politicians that could not and don't give a damn about the American tax paying citizens. I have come to the conclusion that they are all a lieing bunch of bast----. And should all be deported with the rest of the illegals....
Posted by: Anonymous | February 20, 2008 10:05 AM
How does one respond to people who call Lou Dobbs a race-baiter? They obviously have not seen his show. I saw the sad spectacle of the arrogant, racist LaRaza representative who thinks that we have an obligation to open our borders to everybody. You want race-baiting. Listen to the speeches of the Mexican leaders. Listen to LaRaza (the Race), LULAC and Mechta. Those people hate anyone who is not Latino.
Tom Tancredo is a great guy. He didn't lose because of his immigration policy. Unfortunately, just as GW won the presidency based on charm, Obama may win on charm. Issues unfortunately have little to do with winning the Presidency.
Lastly, does anyone see the irony of Obama supporting the legalization of 20,000,000 illegal aliens and his wife's comments that for the first time she is proud of this country. So the entire world is trying to break into this country but a woman who, g-- forbid, may be our First Lady, can't find anything agreeable about the country that gave her an Ivy League education and a million dollar home?
Posted by: Cindy | February 20, 2008 10:19 AM
What's with the race-baiting charges? Do the above bloggers live in Chicago? Were they in the city when a huge mass of illegal aliens marched and screamed Si Se Puede. We live in a country filled with people who don't want to speak English and insist that their children be raised speaking Spanish first. Isn't that racist? Isn't the term gringo racist? Isn't pushing for the rights of all Latinos over the rights of your fellow American citizens racist? Think about it. Hispanic-Americans are more interested in flooding the country with people form Latin America than any concern as to how it impacts their fellow American citizens. They put the concerns of Latinos first, and the concerns of Americans second. That's racist.
Either a number of bloggers here are members of LaRaza or they are self-destructive. Just as they say capitalists will sell the rope that will hang them, our immigration not only is destroying our country but will destroy the above bloggers. Trust me. If you aren't Latino, your rights will be marginalized.
Posted by: Jay | February 20, 2008 10:29 AM
How to respond to those who deny that Dobbs is a race-baiter?
How about his own words, his own outright lies.
"She said, "Hansen's disease" -- that's the other modern name, I guess, for leprosy -- "Hansen's disease was so rare in the America that in 40 years only 900 people were afflicted. Suddenly, in the past three years, America has more than 7,000 cases of leprosy" -- Lou.
DOBBS: It's remarkable that this -- whatever confusion, or confoundment over 7,000 cases, they actually keep a registry of cases of leprosy. And the fact that it rose was because -- one assumes -- because we don't know for sure -- but two basic influences -- unscreened illegal immigrants coming into this country primarily from South Asia, and secondly, far better reporting.
ROMANS: That's what Dr. Cosman told us -- Lou.
DOBBS: And, you know, in talking with a number of people, it's also very clear, no one knows but nearly everyone suspects there are far more cases of that. It's also, I think, interesting, and I think important to say, one of the reasons we screen people coming into this country is to deal with communicable diseases like leprosy, tuberculosis. The fact is, if we would just screen successfully, all of those diseases can be treated effectively, efficiently and relatively quickly."
The reality is that there have been 7,000 leprosy cases in the US....in thirty years, not three.
Leprosy has been steadily dropping in the United States since 1983. There is no epedemic. But that didn't stop Dobbs from using it to whip up fear of immigrants.

If Lou ran, I'd not only vote for him, I'd work for his campaign. Let's not forget Obama in one of his speeches (in the last week or so) telling his mostly Hispanic audience that he needs to learn Spanish! Why would he need that if English is the language of our country? Pretty much all of the candidates are for some type of amnesty - completing disregarding the wishes of the citizen's of this country. Go Lou!

Unfortunately there is a large majority of Americans who just refuse to look at what is happening. We are losing our cultural identity so that another country's people can feel welcome within our borders. There are a lot of people who are encouraging this because it will make them money. There are more encouraging this because they themselves have no sense of identity. Then, more than likely, there lies the biggest problem - apathy. he problems haven't landed at their feet yet. How you lazy, ignorant people can continue to shove you head in the sand while the American Dream you grew up is being given to another country is beyond me. By the time your children are ready for their piece, it will be nothing more than a dream itself.
If you people really do hate America, though, i guess it's your right to do so.

The author seems to agree with the politicians and their contributors considering United States citizens only as "units of labor" and the sooner we become a Third World Country the better for their "bottom line"! Our elitist politicians and their elitist political contributors will not be happy until they transform the United States into a Third World Country for most of our citizens while furnishing the Chamber of Commerce and all their Elitist Special Interest Groups with their supply of "cheap labor". The politicians and their Elitist Contributors are providing "benefits" to the ILLEGALS on the backs of United States citizens through our assets such as the Education System, Social Security, and Health Care not to mention our National Security while "privatizing" the profits for themselves!

First, Americans for Legal Immigration favors enforcement of existing immigration laws (promised in 1986), which is hardly a "hard line" approach.
The writer's second glaring mistake is when he states that Gheen says Dobbs would appeal to "anti-immigration" voters.
Did Gheen use this phrase?? I doubt it.
This is common tactic of the left and biased MSM reporters. The fact is Dobbs would appeal to voters concerned with the massive influx of millions of illegal aliens, not immigrants who respect our laws and apply legally.
Finally, while I agree that there likely will not be a viable third party this election, I wish I could attend one of Prof. Abramowitz's classes and educate him about how illegal immigration is a major issue that is growing in force. There is much evidence that supports this.
And McCain's (& Kennedy's) recent immigration (i.e., amnesty) bill was most certainly not "moderate." This was extreme legislation that would have been terrible public policy (24-hour "background checks," gang members eligible for citizenship after signing a pledge etc.)
Alas, I'm not surprised though that this reporter and professor are uninformed or are intentionally ignoring these critical issues and distinctions.

I hope to gosh that the Lou Dobbs bloggers don't have children. And I assume, based on their lack of foresight, that they don't. People who are future-oriented like Lou Dobbs. Overpopulation of this country will destroy us. We already are looking at long-term oil shortages but we also are looking at water shortages. That is a serious issue. We have an infrastructure that was not built to hold 300,000,000 people and an infrastructure that is not equipped to hold the estimated 450,000,000 people if current immigration trends stand. We have a huge welfare system - both food stamps and social security and this system is not built for the current population, much less the projected population. People with children care about the world that their children live in. I don't want my children to live in a gated community but if current trends continue they will. And how does one assimilate 140,000,000 immigrants. You can't. And to those screaming racism. Are you aware of the odd cultural trends that third world immigrants have introduced to our country. And if you are not aware, why not. And if you are so enamored of the Third World, then why live in the US? Why not move to one of those countries.
We are who we are because of the European culture that built us and defines us. To pretend otherwise is silly. To acknowledge the debt we owe is not racist. It is a debt of gratitude. A great cultural inheritance to which I am grateful.

How to deal with anti-Dobbs? Simple. Deport them along with the illegals. They don't belong here either.
Posted by: tom | February 20, 2008 12:37 PM
Concern about illegal immigration is nothing but a red herring for racism and ethnocentrism. Arguments based on Hispanics failure to adapt to our culture and language are a perfect example of this. You do realize that most first generation immigrants, throughout our country’s history, behaved similarly. There were Polish, Italian, Greek, and various other nationalities that clustered in neighborhoods in Chicago that had signage and services catered towards non-English speaking clientele. Their kids and grandchildren are now your next door neighbors, or even you.
Think for a moment, whose jobs are being lost by the influx of Latin American laborers? The last I checked there is not significant competition for low-end, unskilled labor positions, which is the primary area in which immigrants absorb jobs. While the increased labor supply has a downward effect on unskilled/semi-skilled wages, it also has a similar effect on prices. If you want to make more and just give it all back to buy groceries or fast food, fine. The reality is that saving power and disposable income stay pretty stable.
A case can be made that illegal immigrants do consume a larger amount of government resources than they pay for, but this is blown way out of proportion. For example, illegal immigrants pay property taxes (by renting or owning homes) and pay sales tax on goods consumed. These payments contribute directly to the schooling their children receive and the civic resources they consume. Many immigrants even pay social security through withholding that will never be collected, thus bolstering our floundering retirement system.
If you feel that this doesn't cover enough of the tab, then their is another simple solution. Legalize their labor, collect taxes, and get immigrants on the path to citizenship. Our country was built almost entirely on immigration, why do we turn our back on it now? Not to mention that allowing people to become documented immigrants will improve our border security by allowing us to focus on the people trying to sneak into the country to do harm, not those trying to make decent living and contribute to society.
I, for one, am tired of hearing an endless series of racist arguments for a crackdown on illegal immigration. Lou Dobbs and everyone out there promoting these agendas need to just go away.

Bull. Absolute bull.
We are who we are because we have accepted people from around the world.
We are Asians , Africans, Native Americans, and Europeans.
We were built as much by the Africans brought here against their will as by the Pilgrims. The Chinese labored and struggled to build the railroads. Their were Hispanics and Native peoples here bfore their was the United States.
How dare you deny those peoples contribution to this nation.
If "european" culture is so important to you take your narrow minded self back to Europe. We'll survive the loss.

"CNN BABBLE KING SPEAKS"
WILLIAM I KNOW YOU WOULD ABORT ALL THE BLACK BABIES IN THE WORLD, EXCEPT OBAMA BECAUSE WE ARE TALKING ABOUT HIM. BUT WHAT ABOUT THE MEXICAN IMMIGRANTS, FOREIGN NATIONALS THAT HAVE LIVED IN AMERICA FOR 5, 10, 15, 20, YEARS?
1ST WE CLOSE ALL THE "CHURCH'S CHICKEN" STORES, THEN WE CLOSE ALL THE McDONALDS IN AMERICA, THEN WE WILL "SANCTION" EVERY CITY, STATE, COUNTY THAT ATTEMPTS TO RECOGNIZE THEM.
2ND WE WOULD BUILD A FENCE ON THE SOUTH OF OUR BORDERS THUS MAKING THEM GO NORTH, WEST OR EAST
3RD WE WOULD IMPLEMENT S BILL 1639 AKA SATAN BILL 1639 AND GIVE THEM ALL A "RUDY GIULIANI" SKYWATCH BIOMETRIC TATOO.
4TH ROUND UP ALL MIXED IMMIGRANTS, FOREIGN NATIONALS BORN FROM ALL THOSE THAT GOT A TATOO AND GIVE THEM ONE TOO.
WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN EASIER TO ABORT THEM ALL BILL.
YEA, BUT THAT'S NOT THE CONSERVATIVE VALUE WE WANT TO EXPRESS WHILE THEY CONTINUE TO BUILD OUR ROADS, BUILDINGS, HOSPITALS. WHILE THEY CONTINUE TO DO JOBS THAT MY DAUGHTER WOULDN'T GET CAUGHT DEAD DOING.
WELL THAT'S ALL FOLKS UNTIL NEXT WEEK ON THE "LOU DOBBS BACK TO AFRICA, I MEAN BACK TO MEXICO" MOVEMENT 2008.

Is there a rule that says anyone who has access to a newspaper MUST come up with cutsy names for political people, celebs and others? The people who come up with these pet names must be attention-starved YOUTH.

Hey Roger Morris! STOP YELLING AND STAY ON TOPIC.
Lou Dobbs is an Ivy Leager with a degree in economics and he would make a great president, especially considering the current economic downturn.
Right now, you have McCain the war vet which graduated 5th from the bottom of the class from the US Naval Academy, Hillary and Obama are attorneys and you have preacherman Huckabee. Put them in a bar and add a parrot and an alligator and you would have a dirty joke.

If you think that immigration is bad and don't want immigrants, think about this:
Unless you are a Native American, you are (or are the offspring) of immigrants. How don't you get this?
Posted by: Batski | February 20, 2008 5:26 PM
Lou would be an excellent choice for president. There is a reason his show is so popular, isn't it like the second most viewed news show? It's the only one worth watching imo. Lou cares passionately about the direction this country is headed. He points out the unfair trade practices, the high costs of education, the mortgage crisis, the failure of our government in so many areas, be it illegal immigration, food inspections, dangerous toys...the list goes on and on.
I'd vote for him in a heartbeat.
Posted by: lynn | February 20, 2008 5:35 PM
"It's the only one worth watching imo."
Really? The News Hour with Jim Lehrer doesn't impress at all?
Also, Bill Moyer's Journal;
Yes, a liberal, but he actually gave Ron Paul and Denny K. a chance to answer his questions, at length, without interruption.
Lou is not a bad man, ok. I grant you that. But the fact he so 'passionate' clouds his objectivity.
Let's put it this way; If I were on trial for helping an illegal, say, I wouldn't want Lou on the jury.
BTW, a great little film that looks at this issue in a low key, yet terrifying way is 'Lone Star'. Check it out.

No matter what anyone says abouut Lou Dobbs, he only reports the truth. I will vote and donate for Lou. Lou, please run. We need common sense solutions to get America's broken government and priorities back.

I have tremendous respect for Lou Dobbs for having the courage to say how he truly feels about the illegal immigration issue.
If he runs for a president, he can possibly win and hopefully he'll revive the economy by solving the illegal immigration problem for good.
Posted by: Rosalia Dixon | February 20, 2008 7:10 PM
Hitler said how he truly feels about the Jews, but I don't respect him for it.
Posted by: TheReamer | February 20, 2008 7:19 PM
Lou Dobbs understands the very real and present threats from illegal immigration, the outsourcing of jobs, Nafta and the Nafta Superhighway, the unfair trade deals, and all of the issues that concern American citizens today. These are the things that will destroy America and turn us into a third world nation.
Go Lou Go. Send the special interests like LaRaza packing.

Lou Dobbs , Hmmm what would America do with a Honest, Smart and Patriotic person such as Mr.Dobbs. At first laugh at him. Then as America rose back up to stand strong and free of China and Big Oil. The people would love him . Right along with their new real freedoms . Don't cast this stone aside , time is now very short
Posted by: thomas tencza | February 20, 2008 8:30 PM
Why are people scared of Lou Dobbs? Could it be because he tells the truth when no one else in DC will? I hear his name everywhere, which tells me he is kicking up dirt and some folks don't like it. Lou is not just about illegal immigration. He sees what is happening to our country and he tells it like it is. He is well educated on the many complicated issues facing the country today. And, he actually give a crap about this country. He is no less qualified to be commander in chief than any of the other people running for the job. I am sick and tired of being lied to and stolen from by the very people who are supposed to be representing me. I'm tired of having to fight my own government to get my voice heard. I'd rather have a straight shooting news anchor in the White House than some slimy, corrupt jerk who calls himself a politition. If that's crazy, than crazy I am.
Posted by: michelle | February 20, 2008 8:37 PM
OK, it's time to talk plain.
Lou Dobbs does not stand a farts chance in Hell of becoming anything other than what he is already.
He's won't run and if he did,he would lose.
Posted by: C.Morris | February 20, 2008 9:19 PM
Lou Dobbs is an idiot? Brilliant. O.K. Then I guess I don't like him and my country/culture can go to hell.
People who have no argument always attack, attack, attack! I have asked myself whether my country and the culture I grew up in is worth preserving and the answer is yes.
Lou Dobbs speaks for millions of people like me and my 10th generation American children that have no voice. There is absolutely nothing, zero, zip that the proponents of open borders/massive immigration can say, from any angle or issue that will make me budge one inch! I've heard it all and every time my opponent's arguments are wrought in emotion, greed or ignorance. Bumper sticker logic will not work in this debate and name-calling only shows the bankrupt ideology that my opponents are limited by.
It is time for change alright. Go Lou Dobbs!

Lou Dobbs is only telling the truth. The truth seems to be something that is lacking in the White House and with all politicans. The truth is also not getting out through our media. Without Lou Dobbs the patriot that he is, we would not have anyone trying to defend our nation. Defending our nation is what he is doing against our political zoo.
Posted by: Dana Christensen | February 20, 2008 10:32 PM
O.K Lou Dobbs is well educated, if that is the case then he should understand the politics of change that is sweeping this country and the need to get rid of the status quo.
Posted by: nanton james | February 21, 2008 6:14 AM
If Hillary, Obama or McCain are elected, this could very well be the last US election. Lou Dobbs knows what is at stake here. The other three probably do as well, the difference is, they don't care about US Sovereignty or law, only about gaining more personal power.
Posted by: cayla | February 21, 2008 9:34 AM
All I need to know about Lou Dobbs is he believes Americans should be the first priority. He is a
Patriot and would be a breath of fresh air holding the office of President of the United States.
I am sure McCain, OB and Hillary could also be great Presidents in the country of Mexico.
Posted by: Bulldogger | February 21, 2008 10:32 AM
Lou Dobbs has an economics degree from Harvard and we need someone with those skills in the White House fast.
This article is terribly biased and I am misquoted as being anti-immigrant when in fact I am pro immigrant.
I am filing a formal complaint today.

Lou Dobbs from Independents Day:
"America is now the world’s greatest debtor nation. Our national debt has risen to 9 trillion dollars, a new record high. Our trade deficit stands at 6 trillion dollars, also a record that is rising even more rapidly than the national debt.
The U.S. trade deficit is approaching $1 trillion a year, and our government is spending almost $200 billion annually on war. The cost of federal entitlement programs has risen to $1.2 trillion per year, an increase of more than 2,000 percent since 1970. The federal deficit is more than $200 billion. Our runaway government and consumer spending are bankrupting our nation and millions of Americans. The Bush administration continues to press free-trade agreements (with compliant Democrats) that are disadvantageous to the national economy and disastrous to the interests of working Americans."

How may politicians, much less presidential candidates state the facts and truth? NONE...wake up America, YOU need Lou Dobbs!

With a population of 300 million all we have to show for presidential candidates are three like-minded politicians. All three are Washington insiders steered by special interests into supporting “comprehensive immigration reform” the code phrase for amnesty. It is time for a third party candidate who understands our challenges, offers solutions, strengthens America and carries out the will of the people.
Lou Dobbs, America needs you to run for President.

Lou, we need a man of integrity and honor... and NONE of the remain candidates fit the bill, with the exception of Ron Paul. We need someone like you that can bridge the gap. The other Candidates, Clinton, Obama and McCain are corrupt and I am sick to death of corruption!!!!!!!!!!!! These three are NOT looking out for the American people, but rather their own agendas!!!! Think most Americans have had enough of that!!!!
