Sen. John McCain's lead among Republicans nationally has solidified and Sen. Hillary Clinton's lead among Democrats has nearly evaporated, according to a number of new opinion polls, including this one today from the Pew Research Center.
Sen. Barack Obama has made "significant gains'' among Democrats, as has McCain among Republicans, the new survey shows. McCain now leads former Gov. Mitt Romney by a margin of 42 percent to 22 percent in Pew's newest national poll. Support for McCain is up 13 points since mid-January, Pew reports.
Among Democrats, Pew President Andrew Kohut reports, Clinton’s advantage over Obama has been cut in half since mid-January – from a 15-point lead in the survey then, to an eight point advantage now. Growing numbers of voters surveyed voice some discomfort about "the idea of Bill Clinton being 'back in the White House,'' Pew notes.
Clinton’s own level of support is unchanged since mid-January, at 46 percent. But the junior senator from Illinois has been undergoing something of a surge, at 38 points in the newest poll, up from 31 three weeks ago. "his suggests that the Illinois Democrat may have garnered a significant share of John Edwards’ support,'' Kohut reports. "However, it is important to note that the number of undecided Democratic voters has increased as well in recent weeks.''
The latest survey was run Jan. 30 through Saturday, with 1,502 adults interviewed.
Among its other findings:
"There is no evidence that acrimony between Clinton and Obama during the course of the campaign has soured Democratic voters on the candidates,'' Kohut reports. "Democratic voters remain far more enthusiastic than Republicans about the quality of their candidates, and the favorability ratings for both Clinton and Obama among Democratic voters are virtually unchanged over the past month.
"Some voters are growing increasingly uncomfortable with the idea of Bill Clinton being “back in the White House” if Hillary were to win the election. Currently, 41 percent express this negative assessment, up from 34 percent in October. In particular, more independents now dislike than like the idea of Bill Clinton being back in the White House, a reversal from four months ago.
"The poll shows a sharp increase in negative views about the economy, and a further decline in opinions about the overall state of the nation. Just 17 percent rate the national economy as excellent or good, down from 26 percent last month. Only about a quarter of Americans (24 percdent) say they are satisfied with national conditions, the lowest level in more than a decade. ''

More Swamp recycling of the same polls that got NH and SC so wrong.
Meanwhile, in actual delegate selection results, Mitt Romney swept the Maine Republican caucuses. See http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/02/03/634195.aspx

John Mccain is a war mongerer. He wants to continue to waste the youth of our country to satisfy his sick needs to have them fight for our country for no reason. His irresponsible behaviors on national television highlights what really makes him tick. I don't believe his sacharine statements that are applauded by his supporters. In fact, I feel it is disgusting for him to make irritating jibes at al quaida which just magnify thier enmity towards our country. He is NOT FIT to be president due to his unruly temper and extremist sympathies. .

What I do not understand is that on these forums there are hardly any actual supporters standing up for John McCain yet all the polls say McCain is leading.
Don't let the pollsters fool us once again.

Clinton health plan may mean tapping pay
By CHARLES BABINGTON
Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton said Sunday she might be willing to garnish the wages of workers who refuse to buy health insurance to achieve coverage for all Americans.
The New York senator has criticized presidential rival Barack Obama for pushing a health plan that would not require universal coverage. Clinton has not always specified the enforcement measures she would embrace, but when pressed on ABC's "This Week," she said: "I think there are a number of mechanisms" that are possible, including "going after people's wages ..."
"GOING AFTER PEOPLE'S WAGES" ...
IS THAT THE WAY REAL DEMOCRATS TALK? ...
THE REPUBLICANS WILL KILL THE DEMOCRATS' CANDIDATES WITH THE KIND OF ARROGANT, CONFISCATORY PROGRAM PROPOSED BY HILLARY CLINTON ...

John McCain is trying to cheat and lie to win this election. It's just like when he cheated on his disabled wife and eventually divorced her for his rich, younger mistress.
It's also like the Keating 5, when McCain cheated the American tax payers out of hundreds of millions of dollars.
Since McCain can't really talk about his senate record (amnesty, against tax cuts, 50 cent gasoline tax, etc.) he tries to play up his "character". I think his character is despicable. Cheating on and divorcing a crippled wife, wow that's bad.
Mitt is going all the way!!!

The Pew poll is not reputable like Rasmussen, Zogby, Real Clear politcs. I don't believe the liberal Democrat pew poll period.McCain is not conservative he is backed by moderates like Fred Barnes, Mort Kondracke and Bill Kristol not Rush, Sean, George Will, Ann Coulter, mark Levin or Michelle Malkin. GOP don't fall for enemy pollsters vote Mitt Romney 2/5 Jerry White, Springfield, IL

well, it seems it doesn't matter who Americans vote for, we're in deep financial trouble, deep moral trouble, and are deeply distrusted by almost every country in the world, man we have got troubles. How we're going to get out of it without ransacking a oil rich country is beyond me...oh ya, we did that already.
