John McCain: Happy for George W. Bush's support: The Swamp

The Swamp

by Mark Silva

Is John McCain ready for the race ahead?

It’s “exhilarating,’’ he said.

“I’m the guy who stood fifth from the bottom of his class in the Naval Academy,’’ McCain said. “In America, everything is possible.’’

He said this on CNN's Larry King Live last night.

Asked about radio-talker Rush Limbaugh’s opposition to him, the senator from Arizona and presumptive Republican presidential nominee said: “I’ve never met Mr. Limbaugh… I realize we have to unite the party… I have taken positions from time to time that some in the party haven’t agreed with. I understand that.’’

“I am who I am, to start with, and that’s a conservative,’’ McCain said. “The question people are going to be asking themselves is, who can make this nation safer, and who can best face the economic challenges we face.’’

McCain insisted that he will be able to close the rifts within his party.

“Primaries are tough, in many ways much tougher than a general election… It takes a little while to heal,’’ said McCain, asked if he wants President Bush to campaign for him. “I would be proud to have President Bush campaign for me and support me in any way he feels is appropriate,’’ McCain said, “and I would appreciate it.

“I’m not a person who looks at anyone’s popularity,’’ McCain said of Bush, whom he fought mightily in the 2000 primaries – in a contest that made the one between McCain and Mitt Romney this year seem tame.. “It’s just not me to say that somehow, because someone may not be popular they should not campaign for me. In fact, I welcome it.’’

On the day in which his onetime rival, Romney, had endorsed him, McCain said he has given no thought to picking a running mate yet. “When I start to think about it, I avoid it,’’ McCain said. “You ought to address one challenge at a time… But it will be a person who is most prepared to take my place if anything should happen.’’

Asked about the general-election contest ahead, and his potential rivals, McCain said, “I respect both, and this will be a respectable debate… Americans will have a choice.’’

Asked about Sen. Barack Obama’s ridicule of him for saying that “we might be mired for 100 years in Iraq… reason enough not to give him four years in the White House,’’ and Sen. Hillary Clinton’s similar ridicule of the 100-year remark,’’ McCain said. “It’s not a matter of how long we’re in Iraq. It’s a matter of whether or not we succeed.

“We’ve been in Japan since 1945… American troops have been in Germany since World War II,’’ McCain said. “Neither Sen. Obama nor Sen. Clinton had any experience to know that this surge (of U.S. troops in Iraq) would succeed… This whole thing is keyed to Americans being able to withdraw and coming home with honor, not defeat.’’

“We leave, they say we won,’’ McCain said.

Asked about whom he might pick as a secretary of defense, McCain said, while not sure if he would remain or not, Secretary Robert Gates has done “a fine job.’’

Asked about his own campaign adviser, Mark McKinnon, saying he will step aside if Obama becomes the Democratic nominee, McCain said: “He’s a unique person and a wonderful, wonderful guy and I’m grateful to have him as a friend.’’

Asked about his vote in the Senate this week against an intelligence bill banning water-boarding, McCain maintained that torture is already illegal.

“Let me make it very clear. Water-boarding, in my view is illegal, and it is torture,’’ he said. “To say they cannot use any additional techniques is not appropriate. But they cannot torture… ‘’

“I’m not a person who looks at anyone’s popularity,’’

But I will pander to the very same people I called agents of intolerance last time I ran.

McCain should wear the drug addled gas bag's opposition like a badge of honor.

This guy has used the word "conservative" in an attempt to convince evryone that he is. What his gradual slide from to the far right as he panders and begs to be accepted by evangelicals and the Christian right. McCain knows he cannot be elected with the "maverick" indeoendant views he has. This guy is pathetic. Watch for the morphing.

I respect his military service and his cooperation with democrats in the senate. I'm very disturbed about his pandering to the religious right and his recent capitulation to Bush conservatives about torture. I appreciated him more when he acted like a "maverick." If he wins, one side is in for some big surprises. I wonder which side that will be.

This absolutely certifies McCain as an idiot.

John McCain's statement of appreciation for President Bush's support is a clear indication that McCain intends to "stay the course," set by Bush on major policy.

Did you see Mccain with Romney yesterday at the press release of Romney's support for Mccain. Mccain looked like he had a guy behind him with a stun gun. That whole thing didn't look right.
Mccain must have really gave up something for that endorsement because he really didn't look very happy at it and couldn't get out of there fast enough. Wonder what's up.

Tom you are right. And he will do just like Bush did when he got elected. Slide to the far right. The next time you hear him give a speech, count how many times he uses the word "conservative". However, if it came doen to McCain and Obama, McCain would probably get elected out of sheer fear. How sad.

From the people who dubbed him "Insane McCain",he now welcomes their support.

How desperate is this guy?

President Bush has an approval rating of more than 60 percent (AP-Ipsos poll) among Republicans who, unlike Democrats (surprise, surprise) appreciate his leadership on the security of this country and its people. McCain is seeking the REPUBLICAN nomination, not that of the Democrats. The real surprise would be if the Democrats were approving of anyone with an "R" back of his or her name.

What do the Pathet Lao, Defense Intelligence Agency Director Eugene Tighe,
Bobby Garwood (who probably knows better than anyone else), National Security Adviser Robert McFarlane, CIA Director William Casey, Vietnamese Foreign Minister Nguyen Co Thach, Colonel Millard Peck, Chief of the Pentagon's Special Office for Prisoners of War and Missing in Action, The Senate Foreign Relations Committee's Examination of U.S. Policy Toward POW/MIA's and thousands of Vietnam veterans have in common? They all say or, have said, that POW/MIA's were knowing abandoned in South East Asia after Operation Homecoming.
Who has single handedly done more to prevent meaningful investigation into
the issue of POW/MIA's? Why the "Great American Hero", "Vietnam War Hero"
and the most cynical of all the "Hero" designations, "POW Hero", John Mc Cain.
To me, the whole issue of Mc Cain is pretty straightforward. He's NOT a "good" guy or, even, a "nice" guy. He is self-important, astoundingly arrogant,
two-faced and, in my book, a man without honor. If Mc Cain wasn't the son and grandson of Navy Admirals, nobody would have ever heard of him.
His despicable performance while serving on the Senate Committee for POW/MIA's earned him the everlasting enmity of thousands of Vietnam veterans, who hate his guts to this very day.
I have long been puzzled by the media's love affair with Mc Cain. Never, in the entire military history of this nation, was there ever a "POW HERO." But, lo and behold, Operation Homecoming created an entirely new category of "hero", the "POW hero." Certainly, there were POW's in all of our nation's previous wars
but, there were sound reasons why they were never considered "heroes."
Surely, men who suffer depravations and physical abuse while in captivity
deserve our admiration for surviving their ordeal. It is natural to feel sympathy
and empathy for them. But, to proclaim them "heroes" seems inappropriate in all but the most exceptional circumstances. Cases in point would be Jim Stockdale and Lance Sijan. Even Bud Day's reputation as a "Hero" is more associated with his actions prior to being a POW.
One has to pose the question, if Mc Cain is a POW "hero", does that mean all
POW's are "heroes"? Of course not. In fact, I remember, clearly, John Mc Cain insisting that, "we do not consider ourselves heroes." By the way, that is a direct quote. I realize that when Mc Cain said that, he wasn't being honest at all. He certainly considers himself a "hero." Not only does he consider himself heroic, he had the absolute gall to state on national TV (I saw it on the FOX news channel), that MOH winner, Bud Day said that (again, a direct quote)
"I am one of the bravest men he ever served under" (despite the fact that Col.
Day never served under John Mc Cain).
In this election cycle, the Internet will again play an important roll. It was the Internet that finally exposed John Kerry for what he was (This despite a concerted effort by the old media to suppress the story). And, with luck and perseverance, the truth about Mc Cain will finally be told.
And while the truth about Mc Cain is important, it pales in comparison to the issue of POW/MIA's. When people find out who Mc Cain really is, the ugly truth about decades of lies and deceit by successive administration, Republican and Democrat, will finally be told. When it is, it will be the most sordid, unbelievably dishonorable story in our nation's history.
I've been a Republican all my life. I am a Marine and combat veteran of the war in Vietnam. I would see this country taken over by the Democrats before I'd ever vote for John Mc Cain.

All you jokers that are ridiculing McCain, should stick your stupid heads in history books and see what has to be done to keep this country safe and NOT appeasing the leftist media. I hope he BEATS whoever the democrats nominate.

McCain another George Bush!

Do we really want that? do we really want to continue destroying America and our reputation in the world.

Please say NO to BUSH/McCain!!!!

Barack Obama for president!!

Ray Gorak,

McCain sold his soul to the RNC store.

After what Team Bush did to McCain and his family in South Carolina and accepts $2,300 from KKKarl Rove?

McCain has no shame.

More proof that John McCain will continue the tragically failed policies of this administration. More wars, more deficits, more erosion of civil liberties, less accountability, less oversight, less concern for the needs of the american people.

I'm not sure what history books you have been reading, maybe the short stories of "Great Conservative Leaders", but look at the fall of rome. Stretched the armies too thin, and failing infrastructure.

I am an independent voter and like Mccain, but his stance on the Iraq war is just wrong. It is not like the end of WW II in Japan or Germany. It is more like the Israel occupation of Lebanon. We need someone who can pull experts together to develop a new long term strategy.

Sanbourn, you're a regular Jonathan Swift (that'd be a famous satirist for Philistines like you GOP hacks):

"The real surprise would be if the Democrats were approving of anyone with an "R" back of his or her name."

Yes, because you order-following sycophantic toadies NEVER fail to carry the water for idiot manchild colahead presidents or whatever idjit with an R (for Redneckpublican) after his/her name?

Sanbourn:

60% from his own party??? Clinton was at 63% for the entire nation!!!

Sounds like very weak numbers to me.

RAY GORAK,you, and all the other Rush Limprod sheep should remember how you treated John Kerry.

A true Vietnam hero.

PD, I dig your comment "Mccain's...stance on the Iraq war is just wrong."

However, I agree with McCain's "100-years-in-Iraq" comment on ONE condition: that we ship all of Dixie and all other NASCARepublicans there. Who's with me?

ANYbody but a GOP body in 2008.

Bobin: Perhaps you forgot that Clinton never got even 50 percent of the vote in two national elections. And that was before the Monica scandal, before he was found guilty of perjury, and before he was disbarred and impeached. And the poll you cite? Was that the same one that had Kerry getting 65 percent of the vote for president?

Redneckpublican, huh? Glad to know prejudice and discrimination are alive and well in the democratic party. I can't imagine why you idiots can't win a single southern state. Nice job of slandering rural people who work for a living in the north, east, south and west. Keep it up.

McCain was born in Panama and as such it is not a "Natural Born Citizen"
therefore it sounds as he does not qualify to run for the office of the president.
Panama was leased and we have no Territorial Rights nor it was considered US territory.

If I may, this is not about McCain per se but rather a legitimate quest for the truth and clarification; As of now there has been no good and well conducted public debate on this matter that I am aware of. As many Radio and TV shows talks about immigration issues none that I recall had actually come up with a TV or Radio series where the subject is around immigration and Citizenship and where Buzz words are not part of the context for serious discussion as to how US Citizenship is acquired, what current laws says on that subject and the relationship and impact of immigrants coming to the USA from all part of the Globe and those American Citizens to whom Childen are born abroad.

I would like to bring this US State Department PDF document where in page 6 indicated the following:
"Despite widespread popular belief, U.S military installations abroad and U.S diplomatic or consular facilities are not part of the United States within the meaning of the 14th amendment. A child born on the premises of such facility is not subject to the jurisdiction of the United States and does not acquire U.S. citizenship by reason of birth."
this is in page 6... Please read it...
This is the US State Department web site which contains the file which is attached for your reading. www.state.gov/documents/organization/86755.pdf

As you recall in the past there has been elections (Primary) where US Citizens were running for the office of the President and those Candidates were born in another country and their Parents were US Citizens. (similar to McCain)

Not long ago it was said that Arnold (the governor of California) was actually indicating he would like the Constitution to be amended so he and others Citizens like him can run for the office of the President.
I'm not a Constitutional scholars, but if you feel as passionate and fascinated with this subject as I am, in the process of researching you will discover the vast data that exists of factual information extracted from US Supreme Court cases as well as the Founding Father Papers during the process of writing our Constituion you will discover what the actual intend of "Natural Born Citizen" was and is and what is missing or not to have it clarified once and for all.
Here is a set of web pages to help you all that love reading and educating themself.

Page 15- Last Paragraph
Then Page 32 and 33 have some answers; but I encourage you to read it or have some of your research personal to do so.
The question then is why it was removed on the 1795 Act?; What took place on Congress that moved them to remove such a clear definition as stated on the 1790 Act?

Jeff, you cracker-me up! "Glad to know prejudice and discrimination are alive and well in the democratic party?" WRONG, hillbilly boy: I never mock someone over congenital traits (e.g., skin color, ethnic origin, country of birth) but I find it eminently acceptable to mock people for their fierce chosen stupidity. When one chooses racism, bigotry, white hoods, Johnny Reb flags, and "sporting" events that would bore my toddler daughter (i.e., NASCAR), you deserve scorn.

As for Southern states, we don't want and don't need your votes. Please secede again instead of siphoning Blue States' tax dollars to fund your barely Third World existence. Back in your neo-CSA, you may re-elect Dumbya as your king and we can ALL benefit.

Put that in your corn cob pipe and smoke it with your 'baccy, slick.

"However, I agree with McCain's "100-years-in-Iraq" comment on ONE condition: that we ship all of Dixie and all other NASCARepublicans there. Who's with me?"

We won't be there 100 years.

The Islmabads will get their Calliphate, as the Bible prophesies. If these so called Evangelicals would OPEN their King James Version Holy Bibles, that they CLAIM to follow, they will know their illustrious leader, GW Bush, who is a puppet for the Council on Foreign Relations, was building last days Babylon. (Psstt, It's in Revelation, for the less uneducated Republicans.)

So, basically, Babylon will rise, as God said, and He has a special feast of fire prepared for them.

So, don't worry abou the troops. They will be here. They will have more work on their hands when Russia and China invades this heathen and evil dispicable land.

(That's the USA, also for the uneducated.)

Smart guy, how can you tell how someone feels about the rebel flag or even if they're NASCAR fans by the color on the skin of their back of the neck? Skin that got that color by working hard all day in the sun. You've made your bigoted point, don't try to backtrack on it now.
