Sen. John McCain, campaigning in cold-weather in Tyler, Texas, today, complained in jest that the cold seems to follow him everywhere he goes.
He hails from Arizona, he told his crowd, so they do have a lot in common. Arizona has water shortages. “We have such little water in Arizona, the trees chase the dogs,’’ he said, unreeling an old line.
Asked about Ralph Nader’s new entry to the presidential contest, McCain, 71, said: “At least we’ve got somebody older than me in the race. That’s good.’’ Nader, running as an independent, is turning 74.
But McCain wasn’t joking about the Bush family in Texas today.
“The state of Texas has produced a couple of the greatest presidents in this country… and their name is Bush,’’ he said to cheers. ““I also think it might be nice for President Bush to get a little credit that there’s not been another attack on the United States of America.’

McCain and Nader's ages are o.k. for Popes, not presidents.

What do you call the loss of 4000 Americans and the loss of over a trillion dollars. It isn't 9/11, it is the Iraq war so far.

"John McCain: No longer the oldest in the race"
Yeah, but McCain's still the most insane candidate.
As much as it kills the Wingnuts to hear this, Nader won't even be a factor in this election, he didn't even get 500,000 total votes in 2004 and he's even more disliked now than he was then.
Ron Paul will get more votes in the general election than nutty Ralph Nader will.

Hey, Vatican Man, the Supreme Being is older than McCain and Nader put together, and is still going strong...
Posted by: Truthiness | February 27, 2008 3:29 PM
Not the oldest...just the only one that think staying in Iraq is a good idea. But hey...it's a one trick pony...what else can ya do?

Senator McCain:
Please keep on saying how great a President W has been - it makes the election in November even more of a sure thing for Barack Obama!!!

Ron Paul at 72 has always been older than John McCain, 71 since the primaries started. So it's kind of strange McCain would say "At least we’ve got somebody older than me in the race." when Ron has been running in the primaries with him all along. Then again maybe John is showing his age by forgetting about Ron. They'll probably forget to invite Ron to the debate Mike Huckabee wants to have as well.

Apparently Senator McCain does not consider killing and attempting to kill US diplomatic personel "attacks on the United States".

I'm sure that John Granville's family is comforted to know that he didn't die for his country in the Senators opinion.

McCain has sucked up to Bush so much he could be a vacuum cleaner. In fairness to McCain, one of the outgrowths of the civil rights movement was legislation that made it illegal to discriminate against someone because of age. So it isn't age that's the problem. It's his war mongering mentality that's the problem. And the question is can he grow mentally and be creative in his approach to governing this complex nation? He obviously has tunnel vision with respect to Iraq, so don't look for anything other than his bowel hardened view on that.

“I also think it might be nice for President Bush to get a little credit that there’s not been another attack on the United States of America."
Let me understand this: you ignore warnings of an impending attack, let the attack happen, and as long as there's not a second attack, you're doing a good job? Interesting logic.

Otter, even Ralph has a more realistic chance of getting elected than Ron Paul.
Posted by: Jeff | February 27, 2008 6:10 PM
Truthiness, So cast your vote for the Supreme Being. What does that have to do with these two old men?
Posted by: Tom O | February 27, 2008 6:44 PM
So in McCain's mind Bush takes no blame for 9/11, nothwithstanding the warnings he and Condi didn't take seriously. And, if there is another attack between now and the election, that also won't be Bush's fault, right?

"The state of Texas has produced a couple of the greatest presidents in this country… and their name is Bush,’’. And that's why John boy you will be beat in a landslide. It's time for a change. Obama's the name.

Although Sen. McCain isn't enough of a social conservative for me, he deserves praise for giving President Bush credit that we've not had another 911. McCain also deserves praise for supporting Bush on Iraq. It will certainly encourage the terrorists for us to cut and run from there, as Obama would have us do.

Hey Mark Silva - - keep up the good work with the catchy headlines. This one actually got me to read the Swamp again. Now that Ralph Nader is in, how about "Barack Obama: No longer the most liberal in the race"

Obama/Webb 2008.

hey guess what, John? ...Texas produced neither Bush...Bush the 1st was born in Milton, Mass and the current occupant was born in New Haven , Conn
Posted by: sam marotta | February 28, 2008 10:41 AM
At least Nader or McCain don't have a middle name that sounds Muslim. Therefore, these guys are ok as far as the wingnuts are concerned.
"Sticks and stones ... " that's what they're reduced to.

I hear a sound byte coming! McCain linking himself with Bush...dumb move.

“I also think it might be nice for President Bush to get a little credit that there’s not been another attack on the United States of America."
There wasn't another attack on America after teh 1993 WTC bombing either (that wasn't home-grown). So why not give Clinton an award for protecting us too. This arguement is ridiculous people. Al Qeda will attack again because we surrendered in Afganistan to fight in a Bush fued against Hussein. They have reestablished themselves and are plotting at this moment. give them 2 more years and we will be attacked. They plan, coordinate, plan, coordinate then attack. Not like the USA, get mad attack (Bush style). They take their time and do it right.

Nader's not in the race - even if he thinks he is.

“The state of Texas has produced a couple of the greatest presidents in this country… and their name is Bush,’’
Except Texas didn't produce them. George HW was produced by Massachusetts and George W. was produced by Conneticut.
I don't think Texas wants to take credit for them anymore.
