Sen. Barack Obama has won his party’s caucuses in Maine today in his bid for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination.

The “ayep’’ vote for Obama in the farthest corner of New England follows a string of victories from Louisiana to Washington state on Saturday and virtually evens the score between the Illinois senator and senator from New York, Hillary Rodham Clinton, battling for the party’s presidential nomination.

Before word of Obama’s caucus victory arrived today, the Clinton campaign’s manager, Patti Solis Doyle, announced she was stepping down – a shakeup long rumored and perhaps inevitable following Clinton’s mixed results on Super Tuesday, at a time when Clinton had to loan her campaign $5 million of her own money.

Although Clinton had carried her home state of New York and the biggest prize of the day, California, in that coast-to-coast contest, Obama also had carried more states – ranging from Colorado to Connecticut and from Minnesota to Georgia – nearly evening the score in convention delegates committed to the two.

Then Obama prevailed over Clinton in Louisiana’s primary, in Nebraska and in Washington state’s caucuses on Saturday, and they headed in to today’s sole Maine caucuses with 1,127 delegates committed or pledged to Clinton and 1,093 for Obama.

Now the two face a concentrated contest along the shores of the Chesapeake Bay on Tuesday,a so-called Potomac Primary in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C.

Both candidates campaigned hard in the Democratic center of Northern Virginia today, with Obama staging a roundtable and rally at a high school in Alexandria and Clinton campaigning in Manassas. But today, Clinton sidelined her campaign manager, following a string of losses to Obama on Saturday and on Super Tuesday -- compounded by today's loss in Maine.

Patti Solis Doyle had been living on borrowed time as Clinton's campaign manager following the disastrous showing in Iowa and the rockiness leading up to the New Hampshire primary.

"What happened today would have happened the day after New Hampshire had we lost," one source said, adding that others may soon follow Solis Doyle's departure.

Initially, Clinton's former White House chief of staff, Maggie Williams, was brought in to run the campaign even though Solis Doyle was still there. The result was confusion and awkwardness for the staff, who weren't sure who was really in charge.

But even more problematic was the campaign's money crunch. Over the last seven years, Clinton had raised $175 million for her reelection and her presidential campaign. But Solis Doyle didn't tell Clinton that there was next to no cash on hand until after the New Hampshire primary.

"We were lying about money," a source said. "The cash on hand was nothing."

In turn, Clinton didn't tell Solis Doyle that she was lending her own money to keep the campaign afloat. Solis Doyle found out third-hand. And when she asked Clinton about it, the senator told her she couldn't understand how the campaign had gotten to such a point.

Obama shared news of the Maine victory at a rally in Virginia Beach, Va., that filled an exhibition hall the size of two football fields. The campaign claimed 18,000 people were at the rally.

He noted that he announced his presidential candidacy exactly one year earlier.

“We won by a sizeable margin in Maine, and I want to thank the people of Maine,” Obama said, stirring roars from the crowd. "We have now won on the Atlantic coast, we've won in the Gulf Coast, we won on the Pacific coast and we won in between those coasts."

In the contest for the Republican nomination, Mike Huckabee said he will not "walk off the field'' despite a deficit in delegates that now makes it impossible to win the nomination on his own on the first ballot.

With the lead in Republican nominating delegates that Sen. John McCain of Arizona holds over Huckabee, even running the table in every remaining primary does not offer Huckabee the number of delegates needed to win his party's nomination. But Huckabee insisted that he will remain in the fight until his party has a nominee.

"I think we have a shot at Virginia. I think we have a shot at Maryland. I think we have a shot at everywhere we go,'' Huckabee said Sunday, fresh from caucus and primary wins in the Kansas and Louisiana contests on Saturday and a close fight with McCain in Washington.

"To step aside and have a coronation instead of a nomination, that's the antithesis of everything Republicans stand for,'' Huckabee said on NBC News' Meet the Press. "Miracles are still happening,'' the ordained Baptist minister said. "I still believe in them.''

The Tribune's Michael Tackett, Mike Dorning and Jill Zuckman contributed to this report.

Do not let super delegates decide.

If you do not vote you will deserve any negative result you feel you get. You have no right to complain if you do not participate. Make a difference, give your time or money or both.

True leaders are willing to lead and not wait to follow. Are you willing to be one of them?

Motivate your friends and family.

Otherwise you will get what generation O depicts in his Emo Cartoon.

"....I have a dream today...."

Really the more people get to know Barack Obama the better he does. If it were not for the absentee ballots sent earlier before super Tuesday I am sure he would have carried California along other states as well. I have heard people say that they wish they could change their ballots for Barack Obama but they had already been sent in the mail. Not sure I can ever remember a leader as inspiring as he is.

I'll pull for the CUBS before I pull for either of them.

"Maine caucuses: Barack Obama tops Hillary Clinton"!

You hear that McCain?, we're coming for your crusty old warmongering butt next!

http://www.crooksandliars.com/2007/04/25/senator-mccain-on-the-daily-show/

Look for a victory in Vermont & Ohio to KN Hillary. Barack is like Ali. He's giving her the Rope-a-Dope.

Well, so much for fiscal responsibility. I guess that's just one more indication of how Hillary would differ from Obama. Here's an article that lists every place where Hillary and Obama voted differently. It's quite enlightening. http://politicalmaelstrom.blogspot.com/2008/01/actual-differences-between-barack-and.html

Clinton can keep her own campaign afloat, doesn't know where her own economy stands, and people want to trust her with the economy of the United States? This is very bad... I look for more defectors from the Clinton sinking ship in the next few days.

Pretty scary to think that this idiot could be running the country! Can't even manage a bloody campaign! Suppose it's time for her to "roll up her sleeves"...

If it is truly still "the economy, stupid," then the Clinton campaign might want to get it's financials in order, else one might get the notion that this would be a sign of things to come.

Go Obama!

All you Obama supporters, before you get to excited, especially if your new to the procedure, you should probably do a, Democrat super delegate search.

Or maybe one of the writers here will explain all the voting across the Country might NOT be worth a damn. Why, Super delegates, vote at the convention and just for argument Obama won your State, these people can vote against you/your State.

Go do that search, check the list of Super delegates and see who you find. Bill Clinton, Harold Ickes, etc. And who their loyal to.

Because the vote is so close it might not be a bad idea to check it out. Then get in contact with whomever.
Here's a simple site:
http://demconwatch.blogspot.com/2008/01/superdelegate-list.html

Obama is the only sane choice. If you take a strictly strategic position, he is far more electable than Clinton. The Republicans hate Clinton more than the Democrats Hate Bush! Obama can (and has already wooed moderate Republicans) who are sick of 8 years of mismanagement by Bush and the hawks. All of my moderate Rep. friends have already told me they will vote for Obama over McCain. WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU ABOUT THE STATE OF POLITICS IN THE REPUBLICAN PARTY!!!

Obama is the man. Clinton is out!!!

Obama is the best Presidential candidate of those running in the two large parties. Obama has an excellent detailed plan for the environment and in other areas, read his entire plan in Adobe Acrobat pdf file format at his website at http://www.barackobama.com/issues/ . Go Obama, Go. It looks like the USA will finally have a true liberal/progressive as President and at the same time he will work with Independents and liberal/moderate Republicans - excellent! Obama should appeal both to liberal Democrats, Greens, Independents, and Republicans who identify with Teddy Roosevelt's Progressive/Bull Moose liberal party offshoot of the Republican party.

Failure to properly direct her campaign indicates Hillary will not properly direct the executive branch of our government. This is a compelling reason to nominate Barack.

Can't keep her own campaign afloat? And she's touting a 'new direction' for the economy?

In Senator Obama we have a better choice.

What is 'ayep'

Could it be that campaign manager, Patti Solis Doyle, experienced one of B.J's 'I feel your pain' and 'put some ice on it' moments... and got busted by Hillary?
Hmmmm?

What is 'ayep'

Posted by: Sankar | February 10, 2008 8:17 PM

It's the way Mainiacs (people from Maine) say "Yes." It's pronounced sort-of: "ah-YuP" or "ah-Yuh" (as per the characters in Steven King's "Pet Sematary"), the accent falling on the capitalized syllable.

You're welcome.

Sankar, 'ayep' is the equivalent of aye or yes. I just want to comment on how The Clintons are always crying foul on their media coverage these days, yet I have noticed on several blogs and newspapers, not the Trib, how Clinton's firing of her campaign manager takes precedence over Obama's win in Maine. I expected that Clinton would win Maine and think that Obama's respectable win was an upset, yet the Clinton story gets top billing. Go figure.

"Ayep" is Maine-ese talk for "Yep" ("yes") but they're not sure they want to commit to this affirmative answer, so they precede it with a bit of a drawn-out syllable "a-a" before they get to the "yep" part. It's a way of thinking a bit before answering. We should all do it (think, that is), before speaking.

Regarding superdelegates: they can act at their own peril. Read the news: massive new voter turnout, traffic jams at polling places, people expecting a couple hundred voters getting swamped with thousands of newbies, exactly what the dems need to win in november. The delegate count is too close - you will not get the crossover voters if you backroom it now. They either go with the flow of the people, or hand it to the republicans right now.

I flash back to that overhead picture of voters in the first free vote in South Africa - literally lines of waiting voters, miles long, 8 hours in the hot sun, with people shooting at them, reaching for the dream of a republic like ours, and we sully the process with a 'superdelegate? Who is teaching who about Democracy?

Superdelegates are fluid. They can switch their support, and hopefully will based on the will of the people.

I will say this- I have been a "yellow dog Democrat" for years, however, if Obama gets the nomination McCain will be my choice. He will be most all of Clinton's supporters choice. Obama does not sound like an American president's name!

February 10, 2008

Dear Friends and Readers at Chicago_Tribune:

I have been voting since 1976 and I can't ever remember an election year as exciting as this one.

I love Barack Obama and pray for his success everyday as we are heading into the most important presidential election in the 231-year history of this great country.

Senator Clinton’s husband, President Bill Clinton, often likes to assure people and the press, that, “The American People are pretty smart and they usually get it right when it comes to politics and
elections.” I am strongly in support of Barack Obama, but I have to believe that the successes we are seeing with his popularity in the polls is due to President Clinton’s statement: The American People are in fact, getting it right. They actually want Barack Obama to lead this country as its 44th president.

Besides, if you just immerse yourself in the two best selling books that Obama wrote himself (i.e. no ghostwriter), you will not only understand how talented the man is and how he thinks, you may start to realize that he is definitely the most talented and best qualified candidate running, in either party. I spent Christmas of 2005 reading Dreams from My Father, and Christmas of 2006 reading the Audacity of Hope, so I know. Those books and Barack Obama's speeches helped clinch it for me. I want this great man to lead America from 2009 - 2016.

Every fiber of my being confirms that this country would be blessed to have Barack Obama elected as our 44th President in 2008. Barack Obama will help this country remember once again why we are a great country, and help lead us to the place where will once again respect and care about each other. And he will help regain the respect and trust of other nations on the world stage. I hope we all live to see Barack Obama sworn in as President on January 20, 2009.

Since my candidate has withdrawn (Edwards), I'm still undecided. Hillary has already taken everything the Republics have, and then some. She's tough. On the other hand, Obama would represent a true change in direction. Either one will make a fine president.

Glad to see the momentum building for Obama. I've been puzzled every time I see a comment that Obama is "all rhetoric and no specifics," or something to that effect. It isn't true. Over the course of the primary campaigns, Obama has been much more forthcoming and less equivocal than Hillary Clinton in stating his views, particularly on foreign policy and immigration. And he's certainly better poised than Clinton to take on McCain in the general election, since his perceived strengths (youth, energy, a welcoming and optimistic political style) highlight McCain's weaknesses, while Clinton's perceived strengths (experience, decisiveness) seem to match, and may be overshadowed by, McCain's strengths. But the most compelling reason to support Obama may be what some readers have already pointed out: the appeal he has for independent and moderate Republican voters. Every so often our country has undergone a realignment of the two major parties -- who identifies with which, and why. Right now, we can see this happening with the narrowing of the Republican field to two unorthodox conservatives. Voters are disillusioned and dissatisfied with the place where orthodox conservatism has led them. 2008 will be a golden opportunity for the Democrats to expand beyond their traditional base, and to unite more people around the best progressive ideals, if we nominate a candidate for president who has strong crossover appeal.

I've been an undecided, but I've just weighed the pros and cons of how the Clinton and Obama have run their campaigns. Clinton: 1 - After losing Iowa, mailed out flyers to Hew Hampshire women saying Obama was soft on women's rights for voting "present" on anti-abortion bills in Illinois, failing to point out that PLANNED PARENTHOOD ASKED HIM TO VOTE PRESENT, rather than "no", to give cover for moderates to also voter "present", thus killing the bills. Distortion of record.
2 - In South Carolina, running ads saying Obama preferred Reagan's ideas to Democratic ideas, when he said nothing remotely like that. Lie.
3 - When the DNC asked all candidates to pull their names off the ballots in Michigan for moving up their primary, Obama complied, she refused.
4 - In Nevada, tried to have the caucusing rules that she had agreed to months before changed at the last minute when the Culinary Workers' Union endorsed Obama instead of her.
5 - Making a case that she should get the unseated delegates in Michigan and Florida, after the DNC stripped them of delegates, and no one campaigned in either state.
6 - Making a case that even if Obama gets more delegates in all of the state's contests, it's fine if all of her old friends among the superdelegates give her the nomination instead, ignoring the Democratic voters.
Obama:
Clean campaign, not one distortion of Clinton's record. Played by the DNC's rules. Argues that whoever wins the most pledged delegates from the voters should be the nominee.
Easy call. I go with the guy who has displayed nothing but integrity, honesty, and character. One vote for Obama.

Hillary can't manage her finances or manage her employees. A preview and a warning of what hopefully will never come to pass.

I absolutely adored Bill Clinton, but I cannot hide my absolute disgust for his wife and her vote in favor for the Iraq war. I don't care what other issues are out there. Hillary showed no courage when it came to her vote and she tried to "play it safe" with her vote and now she is realizing that it will cost her the Democratic nod for president. Sorry Hillary, before you were somewhat likable and a somewhat electable president, but now my loyalty goes to Obama.

Paolo:

Must you always think the worst of everybody? Solis-Doyle is a married woman with two kids, for pity's sake. Not only that, she has simply stepped down as Billary's campaign manager. She is still part of the campaign staff.

If she got busted, as you suggest, do you think Hillary - the queen of vengeance - would let her live, much less keep her on board? Remember Travelgate. Remember Hillary-care. Remember Vince Foster. Think about it.

Till then, give it a rest.

A few people does not determine a winner or a loser. 2,079 vs 1,396! It is less than the # of students in a highschool.

Ok! I'll go with that... Maybe she and B.J. got busted during foreplay then.
And now she has been moved to campaign stiffer upper?

The empty suit beat the empty wallet.

And if you credit the above article, the Democrat candidates not only lie to the voters, they lie to their own campaign managers.

Remember Vince Foster. Think about it.

Till then, give it a rest.

The Democrats can send whomever they'd like. Its unfortunate to say, but its true...this country will never elect a woman or a black man president.

I always thought it was spelt 'ayup'. I have family in New Hampshire and have seen that spelling for the stereotypical northern New England expression in the papers up there (I've been to that part of the country on more than on occasion).

Hillary is just firing uneffective employees - that's the responsible thing to do (RE: FEMA). She's still the best choice for president, and has the majority vote. The > 1 million Floridian votes alone need to be counted. Republicans do not like Hillary only because they know she is capable of more change than Obama. We are behind you, Hillary!

I want to thank all the citizens of Illinois who voted for Barack Obama. You make me proud to live in Ill.

I don't quite understand the negative attitude on Hillary. Is it because she is a woman? This woman is extremely brilliant and can make life better for us. I, also, don't understand why people say Obama is the next JFK? What did JFK really do for us? Is he listed as one of our great presidents? He certainly knew how to cheat on Jacki well and he knew the mobsters well, too. Although, I must say JFK was for social welfare and civil rights; Viet Namn War, but so was Lyndon JOhnson. Now i do not, at this point, know who I shall vote for, but please stop these humiliating remarks on Hillary. Let her talk and really listen as I am really listening to both Obama and Clinto.

This should be good...

First of all JohnEEE, I was playing with Paolo. I’m sure he’s heard all the conspiracy theories, and he probably believes one or two of them. It got him to shut up, didn’t it?

In the second place, as far as I know, the only thing the Clinton's did to Vince Foster was to drive the poor man crazy enough to end his own life. He was happy in Arkansas before he came to Washington where he became the eye of a number of public storms brewing because of Hillary's and Bill’s screw ups (e.g. Travelgate, the Health Care Task Force, the vetting of Attorney General and Supreme Court candidates, Whitewater, etc.). These events drove him to severe depression. The rest, as they say, is history. [Nice people to work for, huh?]

In the third place, you are in no position to demand anything from me. I have stepped and fetched plenty of times for you in the past, but to no avail. You are impervious to reasoned arguments based on fact. Furthermore, you have never provided any proof to support a number of half-baked assertions when I challenged you on them. So, as far as I'm concerned your request is totally out of bounds. If you don’t think I’m correct, then Google it. It’s all out there on the net. To the extent you need more, “fuhgettaboutit.”

In the fourth place, what the heck do you care? You have no need for "obscure history," if my memory serves me correctly. You just said so in another thread. If you think William Jennings Bryan is obscure history, then surely you must think the same about the circumstances surrounding Vince Foster’s demise.

In the fifth place, again: What do you care? You are not a Hillary fan anyway. Your a Barak Obama fan. Go try to punk someone else.

Ok! I'll go with that... Maybe she and B.J. got busted during foreplay then.
And now she has been moved to campaign stiffer upper?

Posted by: Paulo | February 10, 2008 10:43 PM

No, Paolo. Hillary vilifies people for treading on her prerogatives. Bill is one of her prerogatives. Simply demoting someone wouldn’t satisfy her ire for messing around with Bill. So, I don’t think so.

Bottom Line:

It looks like you got some vote fraud hankypanky, and selling of votes going on in the democratic caucuses. Obama seems to be doing disproportionately well in the caucuses where it is easier to commit vote fraud, and sell votes. Obama has not been doing as well in the non caucus primary's where you can't cheat the vote as easily.

I smell a pole cat. I smell the Karl Rove vote fraud machine at work. This looks like past presidential elections where most voters leaving the poles said they voted for the other guy. But Bush still won. No wonder Obama thinks the republicans have some good ideas. Apparently a lot of republicans are voting for Obama in the democratic caucuses.

The insurance companies, and medical industry that have been ripping you off, and killing you are determined to keep you, the American people from having good universal health care. So it seems they are supporting Obama. Along with the republican vote fraud machine.

This looks like a great story for a team of aggressive investigative reporters. Or maybe some good documentary film makers like Michael Moore, or Oliver Stone.

If I were the Clinton's, I would focus like a laser bean on what has been going on in the democratic caucuses. No wonder the Republicans like Obama so much. Looks like he's their man in the democratic caucuses.

I'm absolutely convinced now that Hillary Clinton is your best choice for good universal health care coverage. And HR 676 (Medicare For All). "Single payer, Tax Supported, Not For Profit, True Universal Health Care" free for all as a right. Like every other developed country in the world has. See: http://www.house.gov/conyers/news_hr676.htm

“HR 676:
For church goers: less money to insur. companies and more to the church- lots more.
Srs on Medicare: save way over $100/wk. Because no more medigap, long term care & dental insur. needed. No more drug bills.”

They really think you are all stupid, inattentive cash cows... It may be time to bring back Bad Bill.

PLEASE-don't be short-sighted! Yes, Barack is exciting, but he has not got the experience to deal with the Washington bureaucracy. Remember Jimmy Carter? Great guy, didn't have the insider knowledge. No one can get the job done unless they know how the system works and how to overcome it. Let Hillary do the clean up and then bring in Barack to be the visionary. A committee composed of every American will not be able to impact the mess we're in soon enough to divert real disaster. And real disaster is here and getting worse. Rhetoric and hope are great, after a tough approach gets us stabilized. And he's nowhere near ready to tackle our dismal foreign policy. VOTE HILLARY!! Then vote Obama in 8 years.

It's people like you that need to grow up.You are soooooooooo ignorant .I am ashamed that you are an american .It is a huge disappointment to hear a fellow american make statements like you did. You should be more concerned with the content of a person's character instead of what their sex, color , creed , religion , race.......is
You are such an insecure person if this is how you feel in 2008 . Your thoughts is a direct reflection of how you feel about you.Get some self esteem and learn to love yourself first.
The election is about who we think can get us out of this economic garbage we got ourselves into (i will not be surprised if you voted for the incumbent president judging by the level of your understanding).
Bankruptcy , poverty ,lack of universal health insurance , joblessness , foreclosure , low or no education funds and so on does not come in colors. These problems are real.GET OVER YOURSELF AND THE FEAR OF OTHERS AND GET YOUR BUTT OUT THERE TO VOTE FOR WHO YOU BELIEVE WILL BEST REPRESENT YOU

I wonder if any of you have caught the Republican callers on C-SPAN. Several of them confirmed that they have gone to the primaries and caucuses and voted for Obama to skew the numbers. This is what their party is asking them to do in order to make sure that Hillary is not the nominee. One guy from downstate Illinois said that they want Obama to be the nominee for the Democrats and that it will be easy for the Republicans to keep the WH in November.

Do we owe it to providence that while some folks at the last super tusday are regretting their choice; we are being revealled how irresponsible Hillary Clinton is with her campaigne and finances; if she is incapable of managing several millions she raised for her campaign, how can she manage several billions/trillions of American money.
I think we've being given an eye opener in the drama ensuing in the Clinton's camp. If Patti Doyle will switch her vote why can't you...
Go figure Americas!
God bless Obama and
God bless America

@2:57"No one can get the job done unless they know how the system works and how to overcome it."
If we can truly only elect former presidents or first ladies (seems a foolishly narrow group), the Democrats need to start acting to draft Lynn Cheney NOW. After all, Clinton's spousal experience was 8 years ago; can she truly understand what it's like now? Lynn Cheney for Democratic nominee! She might even be able to beat John McCain.

"Let Hillary do the clean up and then bring in Barack to be the visionary."
I'd like my vision now, please. We've had a bad introduction to the 21st century with our first president, and the time to change our course, our image abroad, and our image of ourselves at home is now, not in 8 years. This election is for the next four years. No matter how awful Bush is, he just doesn't guarantee the Ds an untrammelled waltz to the presidency for the next 16 years.

"The Democrats can send whomever they'd like. Its unfortunate to say, but its true...this country will never elect a woman or a black man president.

Posted by: Ted Green | February 11, 2008 12:05 AM"

I'm quite certain you could go to a state that has a black man or a woman as governor, and would find people who would express this opinion. When you point to the actual, elected governor, they'd insist it didn't count.

This country has changed. The so-above-it-all declarations about who will never be elected keep getting trumped by reality. The vast majority of voters will vote for the person they think can best do the job, especially once it's been shown that that candidate is electable. I hope in the future to have a chance to vote for Napolitano or Sibelius.

"Obama does not sound like an American president's name!"

Mel, your hood is showing.

Wow Wee! All these comments are very interesting. I liked Hillary in the beginning, but the more I read about everything that's going on with her, I became discouraged. I'm not sure if she is ready to run this country and think she is just trying to prove a point and make her name/family popular. Now, I loved Bill, even though he had some down falls. I just can't do McCain because he is too old- let's keep it real, among other things. So the best choice is Obama. I believe he'll do a great job. If we put up with Bush for 8 years, we can give Obama a try for 4. Can he really do any worst? I hope not or we are in trouble. Smiles. God bless all of you!

Obama has released his financial records. Billary won't do so until after the general election (if she can manage to win it).

What are they hiding? They "loaned" themselves money and now won't say where it came from?

Oops, I meant to write that Billary won't release thier financial records until after the primaries are over and before the general election.

Cleo Stern: YOU should not be so short-sighted and here's why:

Former Gov. Jim Edgar, a Republican stalwart in Illinois, says he likes Democrat Barack Obama. "I think the world of him, and I think he's done a great job, but I have to tell you, I'm for Sen. Clinton (as the Democratic nominee) because I'm a Republican," Edgar said today, pausing for laughter at a Springfield forum sponsored by the University of Illinois. "I believe our best chance in the fall is to run against Sen. Clinton. There is nobody who will unite the Republican Party more in November than Sen. Clinton." -- Chicago Tribune 2/8/08

Folks, let's think about this. Hillary cannot beat McCain. We must wake up before it's too late. I think we all want to beat the Republicans this fall. We have tried TWICE in this decade and have failed! We must be realistic about our votes.

Support Barack Obama -- he is our last chance to beat the Republicans this fall. Just picture the stark contrasts he presents while he's standing next to McCain during a debate: Young v. Old; Washington insider v. newcomer; the past v. the future; the 21st century v. 18th century; tied to Bush's failed policies v. objected to Bush's policies from the beginning. The contrasts are COMPELLING, you simply cannot deny that!

Not to mention, the RNC machine has not quite figured out how to beat Barack, whereas, they have the playbook on the Clintons. And they'll have even more once Bill gets "vetted" for the years since his presidency -- all of their family foundation dealings, the books written about them, the goings-on at his Harlem office, etc. (And do not kid yourself, the moment Hillary started using Bill as her advocate in the campaign, she injected him and all his baggage into this campaign. It will not go overlooked.)

Obama for President 2008!

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/31/us/politics/31donor.html

Hmmm, maybe this is why the Clintons won't reveal their finances.

It seems Bill has been involved in some shady deals since leaving the White House, even supporting a dictator thug to benefit a well-heeled supporter.

So, Obama supporters, here is a question for you: In 2000, Democrats blew a gasket because the Supreme Court ended the recounts in Florida, essentially giving Bush the presidency. The mantra then was: Forget the rules, count all the votes. But now it's looking more and more likely that the delegate totals heading into the Democratic National Convention are going to be very, very close. So if Obama is ahead by a narrow margin, will you allow all of the votes to be counted in Florida and Michigan? Or will rules suddenly be your friend, despite the fact that your own party will have disenfranchised millions of voters in two of the nation's largest states?

Congratulations, Senator Obama on your fantastic another win!!!

P.S. Don't post to me anymore, you're wasting my time...stick with JohnE.
He's a Fu#$%ing idiot, like you.

No, Paolo, you're the one who routinely posts racist, sexist, pro-fascist Bovine Scat. If you want to see who, between the two of us, is seriously lacking in brain cells, go look in the freakin' mirror.

And, as for wasting time, you waste everyone’s time here. Just when conservatives on the board have a decent position in any give and take, out pops Paolo to type in something drastically stupid.

Get a grip.

You're wrong again, I like both of the Democratic candidates, either one will make a great President starting this Jan 09.

Posted by: John E | February 11, 2008 1:44 AM

You're really a lot less intelligent than I thought if you could support Hillary.

Or will rules suddenly be your friend, despite the fact that your own party will have disenfranchised millions of voters in two of the nation's largest states?

The Florida and Michigan Democratic Parties chose that for their voters. Florida and Michigan democratic voters knew going into their primaries that no delegates would result from their votes.

No one in Palm Beach County chose to have a screwed-up ballot in 2000. Your comparison has more holes in it than Swiss cheese.

$175 million dollars. Gone. Wow. And she thinks we're going to let her have the keys to the Federal Treasury? Not! Good riddance to that harpy. Hitlery would have a disaster had she made it. At least you Dems have the Kid now to root for. Should be fun watching him be exposed for the empty suit he is. Especially when McCain nominates his friend Colin Powell as the Vice President. A real black man and a real man of accomplishment and experience, not some half-breed giving flowery speeches with zip to show for his life.

vit: I always thought it was spelt 'ayup'. I have family in New Hampshire and have seen that spelling for the committee composed of every American will not stereotypical northern New England expression in the papers up there (I've been to that part of the country on more than on occasion).

That's interestng, vit, because 'ayup' is an expression from Yorkshire dialect in England.

PS: Hillary is FABulous, a strong brilliant capable woman for America. Obama is an empty windbag. My, how he rattles and puffs. why people fall for a snake oil salesman in borrowed clothes, I don't know. He seems clueless and so does Mccain; either would be a disaster. Five Minutes in the job you would see it and regret it, IMO.

What's good for the Democratic Party is not necessarily good for the United States. The Democrats seem to be forced to use Hillary and the baggage she brings meaning Bill to get back in the white house.Isin't that the most stupid and disgusting thing you can think of. The Democratic party would be back in power getting all the jobs they lost in the past two elections and Bill would be also be back doing what he likes and is driven to do to unsuspecting female interns and getting richer from politically arranged deals.

The only solution to preventing this horrible scenerio to happen is *DONT vote for the Clintons*.
I am sure that either Obomma or Mc Cain would honorably serve their country as the next president of our country.

God Bless America.

Ruth Calabria, Chairperson

We endorse Barack Obama as the next president of the United States.

This is the most important election America will ever have, possibly the last if Barack Obama is not elected.

The Evolutionary Party derives its politics from the equation for evolution shown on the flag that has been in the textbooks for the last eighty years. A mathematical elaboration of it supported by data ranging from chemical kinetics to the evening news indicates that our “war on terror” is slowly but surely escalating to World War III, a truly terrifying thought. For that reason we support Barack Obama, for he is the only real anti-war candidate.

Hillary? Before Hillary came Bill. Let us recall Bill Clinton and his lovely first lady with a clear eye. This all smiling couple sang their song of health care so sweetly to the public but delivered, not on an increase in medical protection, but an increase in prison building and in the number of police roaming the streets, federally paid, looking for a reason to hassle the public and put those who get annoyed rather than cowed into one of those new Clinton prisons. And we accepted it all because it came from such a nice American couple with such nice smiles. Hillary, show us that your showboat is something other than a total fake.

What the Clintons did very much pleased the conservatives, who believe in lock ‘em up law and order because our laws are made by and for the eternal betterment of the moneyed class in America. What the Clintons did took America to the highest per-capita prison population in the world, a statistic historically associated with police states like Stalinist Russia and apartheid South Africa. No, the Evolutionary Party is not saying that America is a police state, if it were, you’d have heard about it on the evening news.

The Clinton presidency also ended social protection for out of work people, again quite pleasing the conservatives. The Clintons ended Lyndon Baines Johnson’s war on poverty and put all the homeless people you don’t see on TV onto the streets of Las Vegas and Sacramento where they are as thick as flies and can’t be missed unless you are blind. As some in the media actually are. Have you ever noticed Carol Costello’s eyes? Right out of the Stepford Wives. She is blind. You are sure of that by what she and the rest of the show your tits newscasters don’t say. Nothing that you actually see on the streets of America and on its busses and in its workplaces is ever talked about on TV.

And you have to wonder who Carole is banging for in the front office. We are not picking on her for that reason, though. Working women all across America have to fuck for their bosses, one way or another, to get ahead in life. So it is very unlikely that Carole is alone as a CNN down on her knees newscastrix. No, we are picking on Carole and on Anderson and on the rest of the well paid greasy mouths on TV for not seeing the more stark realities we lesser people have to live with.

And to all you middle class who don’t care if the Clintons brought us the hoards of homeless beggars that don’t exist in your life, don’t turn your head so soon. It could be you and your family next. Either as one of the homeless, when the economic realities of our trillion dollar war rob you of your job and retirement savings when the market crashes. Or as a victim of the homeless when their rage at being kicked by the police on top of being starved reaches the mass murder point. As it has in a number of other sectors in America where control is abusive, as at work and in our well policed schools.

On a lighter note, Hillary does have a few things she can be proud of. She is a most talented actress and a profoundly adept social climber, our American Evita. But whatever Hillary’s personal accomplishments, she is never going to go against the wishes of the money class that created her and Bill and supported them as their adorable political puppets. Hillary would not show her tax returns, as Obama asked, because they would show the largess showered on the Clintons by the moneyed class. No, Hillary is not going to stop this war, whatever she may say to get elected and star her next movie: Figurehead President II.

Of course, there are those of you that think that Hillary would never lie to us. Bill said he would never lie to us. And he said it so well that I yet don’t believe he lied to us about Monica. Monica who? That is how good an actor Bill is. He’s even a better actor than Brad Pitt. One night Bill crawled into Angelina’s bedroom in Beverly Hills with a cigar in his mouth. Hey, Angelina, he said, my wife’s going to run for president this year. Open your legs and give us your vote. Pass the popcorn, please. It’ll be another four years of that movie, but with Hillary smoking the cigar.

Of course, transgressions are relative. Who is not totally revulsed by the smell of a public rest room fused to the Bible squeezing, boy hustling conservative senator from Idaho? Nobody has caught Bill at that yet. Still, what character is there in a first family when the head of the most powerful nation on earth sticks a penile object, not even his own, up some college kid’s vagina? If this were a movie, would they play the Star Spangled Banner during this scene?

And doesn’t it make you wonder about the guy’s wife? Does any sane female over the age of 22 really think Hillary felt bad about Bill and Monica? Behind all the media hype that protects those who help control the little people, you have to wonder:

A.) Is Hillary is lesbian, a married one, not that unusual in modern America. If Hillary was mad about anything with Monica, it was that she didn’t get a shot at her too. Watch one of Hillary’s lovers surface soon to clarify her tastes as to penile object.

B.) The smiling Clintons are so phony and so slimy underneath that one would not be surprised to find that the inarguably unconfident and possibly mildly retarded Chelsea Clinton was the product of her pervert parents abusing her when she was four years old, the age she seems to be stuck in. Certainly there is as much truth in this outrageous conjecture as the Clintons being good people because they go to church on Sunday. No, what the Clintons are is not good, but likable. Likable is a banana split. You just like how it tastes. You don’t need a reason. The Clintons are an imitation banana split, very likeable, like artificial sweetener that causes cancer eight years down the line.

You can trust what a Clinton says like you can trust what a Bush says. That whole family, George I, George II, Lady Barbara and Lady Laura, are all great actors too. And isn’t it interesting that the Bush daughters, Jenna and what’s her name, are as unconfident and inept as Chelsea. Makes you wonder if Bush uses a cigar too. But on Lady Laura, the Virgin Mary of conservatives?

True, this skit by the one writer’s guild writer who didn’t get rehired is a bit insane. But there are a lot of people around today that are actually insane, not the least of whom are the conservatives, all of which are unbalanced emotionally because of their castration in childhood from the pains of physical punishment and strict obedience. They are inherently defective however much their endless charades from Senate podiums and on Fox News try to hide it. And dangerous when they have weapons in their grasp.

If you want the war and the police state to end, vote for Barack Obama. Not for Hillary, who is so self-serving and devious that you wouldn’t be surprised if she teamed up with Huckabee as VP on a national reconciliation ticket. Or some such curve ball the moneyed class would use to block Obama from getting in and ending our descent into irreversible totalitarianism and worldwide war. Hopefully Obama will not be removed by assassination.

Who are we to say such dark things?

The question used to be- why did the Tribune publish its unsubstantiated views that John Mc Cain had acted inappropriately towards a lobbyist. Now the Tribune has decided to publish selected characterizations of second hand conversations and opinions concerning the deduced flaws which they claim to have discovered in John Mc Cain's character.

The Tribune's timing is suspect in that the Democrats are still carrying the weight of Bill Clinton's extra curricular activities in the White House. So it seems that the democrats are seizing on this opportunity to make it appear that Bill Clinton is almost normal.

So what are we going to do about this? My opinion is that if there is any truth to the undocumented opinions of gross misconduct outlined in the Tribune then John Mc Cain will do the honorable thing and apologize. Hopefully all this will be resolved and the Tribune will also apologize or take credit for its investigative activities.

In other words an apology from somebody is due.

If we want to compare the two democratic foes and I am pretty sure we all know who they are by now, then it is a safe bet that Barraca Obboma will be the Demo.candidate. Why you say: because she has Bill as her soul mate and chief advisor and Barrack dosen't.

When the dust has cleared and Barrack is the Demo. choice, do you think Bill will be asked to participate in Barracks campaign-no he won't.The most obvious reason- being of sound mind he wants no part of the Bill Clintons' attitude that everything is Ok as long as it feels good and he wants to President or at least be chief advisor to somebody.

I believe most Americans know what issues we face as a nation as we try to decide which candidate(s) will best resolve them. We see in John McCain’s life, past and present a devotion to serve his country. Anyone who knows Senator McCain will tell you that he has passion for what he believes in and a constant drive to serve his country to the best of his abilities with sincerity, truthfulness, and dedication.

Most Americans are aware of the courageous service John provided as a naval aviator and POW . But few can fully appreciate how bad the egregious hospitality of the Hanoi Hilton was .His main concerns were for other POWs’ life threatening conditions and how he could help them is spite of the injuries he had received prior to and during his confinement.

To this day John’s truthfulness and dedication for what he believes in is demonstrated by his sincere and noble service as a Senator of the United States of America. We could do a whole lot worse than vote for John Mc Cain as our next president of the United States for every man, woman and child in our country regardless of their political affiliation.

God Speed John Mc Cain

Well, I have read the whole discussion carefully and i have really impressed by the writing by the great author " Mark Silva". I thing in different region there are different types of culture that affect living style.

I think Bill Clinton was a good president, but I cant hide my disgust for Hillary and her vote in favor for the Iraq war.
Mmy loyalty goes to Obama too

I think 2016 will be an interseting year, as both Sarah Palin, and Hillary Clinton plan to run for president.

I hope Obama will do better than Clinton and also Bush of course

I'll pull for the CUBS before

I cannot hide my absolute disgust for his wife and her vote in favor for the Iraq war. I don't care what other issues are out there. Hillary showed no courage when it came to her vote and she tried to "play it safe" with her vote and now she is realizing that it will cost her the Democratic nod for president.

I'll pull for the CUBS before I pull for either of them.

I always fancied Maine, now I know why.
