Boston – Sen. John McCain stood before the cheering crowd in historic Faneuil Hall this morning and said he was "deeply honored" to have the support of two former governors of Massachusetts, Paul Cellucci and Jane Swift.

You can bet he was also enjoying the irony of the fact that Mitt Romney, also a former governor of Massachusetts, doesn't have their support. (Former Governor Bill Weld is supporting Romney.)

In a home invasion of sorts, McCain stepped onto Romney's turf Sunday night, visiting Paul Revere's old stomping ground - the Green Dragon tavern - to shake hands with voters. He watched the Super Bowl in the bar of his hotel with fellow senators Joe Lieberman of Connecticut and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, as well as former Sen. Phil Gramm.

This morning, McCain held a raucous rally at Faneuil Hall, winning a standing ovation and repeated cheers from the crowd.

"We thought it would be good to come here and thank the people for their support for many years," he said, when asked why he would campaign in Romney's home state where polls show Romney winning by a wide margin. "I love it here in Boston and the state, we've spent a lot of time in New Hampshire in the past. We're very happy to see a lot of old friends and supporters, including two former governors."

Asked again about his visit, McCain said Romney is "certainly welcome to come to Arizona if he like. The weather is very nice."

In another appeal to Massachusetts voters, McCain let it be known that he had predicted the New England Patriots would win against the New York Giants Sunday night.

"I have a debt to pay when I see Rudy Giuliani," he said.

How sad. Just another look into McCains character that he would try to give a slap to the face of Romney by going to Massachusetts. I hope conservatives come out with an overwhelming victory for Romney and put Mccain in his place. Is this the kind of ploy we want our future president using. I say not.
Mitt Romney for President!

Will McCain make a POW out of the USA?

How many more men and women is McCain willing to sacrifice to preserve Bush’s war legacy? Will McCain surrender the borders to Mexico through Amnesty and his Open Border agenda? Will McCain surrender your wallet to special interest groups and entitlements to illegal aliens? Will McCain surrender Roe vs. Wade to liberals and partial birth advocates?

Will you surrender your vote to McCain on Super Tuesday?

McCain was cheering for the Pats? No wonder they lost! I swear, the guy is bad luck.

That is absurd, of course McCain went to Mass, there's an election going on... didn't you know? I think every candidate has a right to canvas every state, especially when the Republicans who represent that state are in favor of the candidate.

Keep dreaming, MK. McCain will nearly have the nomination locked up after Super Tuesday.

Being from MA, I can tell you that Cellucci and Swift were two of the MOST LOATHED governors in recent MA history. These endorsements are a joke. Bill Weld - a beloved governor of MA - endorsed Romney.

I can't wait for the Republic Party to run this angry old man (McCain) in the general election!

We have heard a lot of feedback from Romney supporters all over the country that feel like they are not getting the real picture about Governor Romney’s chances of winning the Republican nomination for President of the United States. Many people say that the information they do receive always paints a picture of Governor Romney as losing this race. You are entitled to know how Governor Romney is truly doing in this race. PLEASE FORWARD this information on to friends and family and help get the word out about the truth about Governor Romney’s campaign!

The TRUTH is this: Governor Romney CAN and SHOULD win the Republican nomination for President of the United States. This is a two-man race between Governor Romney and John McCain and Governor Romney is literally only a few points/delegates behind! Senator McCain would like everyone to believe that somehow Governor Romney is too far behind to ever catch up. That is NOT true. We need to rally behind Governor Romney, because only a slight increase in support among conservatives is all that’s needed to tip the scales in favor of Governor Romney and conservative change!

People shouldn’t think that McCain has this rapped up. They need to understand the tremendous support that Governor Romney already has. Consider the following:

1) Governor Romney has led for most of this race and is still positioned well to win the nomination! Until recently Governor Romney has handily led the delegate count. Though he is currently in second place in the delegate count since the Florida Primary, by CNN’s count Governor Romney has 6% of the support he needs to win and John McCain ONLY HAS 8%. Translation = Governor Romney is not trailing far behind; in reality, he is right on McCain’s heels and is well-positioned to succeed in the upcoming primaries because he is the true conservative.

2) Governor Romney is the True Conservative in this race. Governor Romney supported the Bush Tax Cuts and supports making them permanent, he supports appointing conservative judges and justices like John Roberts and Samuel Alito, and he will confront and defeat radical Islamic Jihad, end our energy dependence on foreign oil, curb federal spending, and sustain traditional American values. But don’t just take my word for it.

3) True conservative thinkers all support Governor Romney. For a small sampling, consider the following sources:

- Michael Reagan, son of President Ronal Reagan:
http://www.townhall.com/Columnists/MichaelReagan/2008/01/31/john_mccain_hates_me

- Mark Levin:
http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=NDEzMDYzZjBkMDNhYjk0ZjdhZmJlZWNkMWQ1NjI4MGI=

- Sean Hannity: "I'll tell you right now, and I've not announced this, but I will be voting for Mitt Romney in this campaign. It's the first time I've stated it publicly. I'll state it now." ("Sean Hannity Radio Show," 1/31/08.)

- Laura Ingraham: "All right, I'm going to see your endorsement and raise you an announcement: February 12th is the big D.C. primary, I'm pulling the lever for Mitt Romney. No doubt about it. No hesitation." ("The Laura Ingraham Show," 2/1/08)

- Lars Larson: "It's time for the GOP to pick a real Republican standard bearer. I've been keeping my powder dry on this question for months till I had the chance to talk to all of the potential nominees. I've done that now, and I'm left with only one conclusion. Governor Mitt Romney is the best choice for 2008." ("The Lars Larson Show," 2/1/08)

4) Governor Romney has National Support: Listed at the bottom of this email are just some of the additional names of the endorsements of Governor Romney from elected officials, national figures and several publications and newspapers. (Feel free to add yours as well when you forward this on!)

5) Governor Romney has tremendous financial support, from people just like you. Not including ANY of Governor Romney’s personal contributions to his campaign, Governor Romney’s campaign has raised more money than any candidate in the history of the Republican Party! He has raised roughly $20 million more than John McCain thus far. And that financial support remains strong; in fact, the day after placing second in the New Hampshire primary—what some were calling a “big loss” to McCain—Governor Romney held a fundraiser and raised $5 million in one day. By comparison, the democrat winner in NH, Hillary Clinton, also held a fundraiser that day and raised only $700,000. This relates directly to his ability to stay the course and beat the Democrat nominee in November.

6) Governor Romney is the most electable Republican because he can fight the fight. I just mentioned money raised. Money will mean a lot in the coming months! John McCain is currently spending as much money as he brings in and is $4.5 million in debt. The Democrats have raised hundreds of millions of dollars and if Senator McCain becomes the nominee, he will have no money with which to compete with the Democrats. The Democrats will bury him with the sheer size of their war chests. He CANNOT compete with them financially.

7) Senator McCain CANNOT beat the Democrats. You cannot beat the Democrats by acting like a Democrat. John McCain has sided with the Democrats on issues from supporting amnesty for illegal immigrants, attacking the 1st Amendment with campaign finance reform, opposing drilling for oil in ANWR to reduce our reliance on foreign oil, and he voted TWICE against the Bush tax cuts. John McCain was reported to have considered running as John Kerry’s running mate in 2004. You can’t beat Democrats at their game, you need someone who talks AND acts like a true Republican leader. That is clearly not John McCain; that person is Governor Romney.

We need to unite NOW behind Governor Romney. People ought not to vote for John McCain simply because they aren’t given all the information about how strong Governor Romney is as a candidate. PLEASE FORWARD this on so that those who believe in having a strong military, and a strong economy, and strong families know that Governor Romney CAN win this election.

Governor Romney is as strong as ever in this race. And with all of us united behind true conservative principles, Governor Romney WILL win. Please forward this email on and vote for Governor Mitt Romney.

Best regards,

Trent

Give it up, Frank, the Mormon Pseudo-conservative is done. He's listed as a RINO (Republican In Name Only) on the wikipedia page for the term!

He'd take America's guns, raises its taxes, and stifle economic growth just like he did in Massachusetts.

Mac is a grumpy old man.

They guy is a democrat in Republican clothing. How many times has he voted with the democrats on bills that furthered his political career? He also voted against the Bush Tax cuts that jumpstarted the economy. Now he says he'd make them stick. What. FLip flopppppppppp... What a joke. The economy is the issue and this guy is clueless. He keeps the warmongering up because that's the only thing he has any experience in. Why is it that people want change but Hillary and McCain are leading in the polls. They've been in Washington forever. Please please. be sensible people.
McCain isn't the answer.

But Brooks, has he ever said something like this? Nope, never.

December 2007
MR. RUSSERT: So the assault ban that expired here because Congress didn’t act on it, you would support?

GOV. ROMNEY: Just as the president said, he would have, he would have signed that bill if it came to his desk, and so would have I.

Romney, just a few days ago: "Yeah, I don’t support any gun control legislation, the effort for a new assault weapons ban, with a ban on semi-automatic weapons, is something I would oppose. There’s no new legislation that I’m aware of or have heard of that I would support. In regards to guns, I think we have enough legislation and should enforce the laws as they exist. I was pleased that when I ran for Governor that I received the endorsement of the NRA and I hope to receive their support now."

In addition to that apparent flip flop, it should be noted that the NRA did NOT endorse Romney when he ran for governor, as his campaign acknowledged when he said it last December.

Is there anything this empty suit WON'T say to win an election?

Is there anything this empty suit WON'T say to win an election?

Your right Jeff, there doesn't seem to be anything McCain won't say or do to get elected.

If John McBlame can lie in public about the 'timetable withdrawal' issue how you vote for him? The age is not the problem to me but his short temper, arrogance and foul mouth is noting new Congressional debates. It's time for us stop hesitating and procrastinating before it's too late. Support Mitt Romney now while the wind is with us.

The dysfunctional Republicans have their underwear in such a knot over McCain and Romney, they don't know what to do. Duhhhh. Neither will be able to beat the Democratic nominee. How pathetic they are.

McCain is not the best choice for the predicament of the last 8 years. He is too angry and too rigid in his ideas on Iraq. America wants change, and unfortunatley, McCain isn't it. Any candidate who jokes about bombing Iran (Bomb, bomb bomb Iran) should be watched carefully and not allowed to further his presidential ambitions. We don't want a contender who will carry on the same foolhardy policies as the current President.

While I respect John McCain for his wartime service, I do not find him qualified to run our country. Mitt has a strong education, excellent experience, and moral values- you must look at the life of a man to know how we will continue to live. With a lovely wife and 5 children, united as a family- he can unite our nation. Also, it is interesting to note that he DONATED his salary from the Olympics to charity, and did not accept a salary as governor of MASS. GO MITT!!!

Why McCain wasted precious time and resources trying to get Romney's goat: Zogby CA poll- Romney 40 McCain 32 and Survey USA MA poll Romney 58 McCain 37.

McCain is a senile fool. Someone must had waterboarded him in MA and tied him to his airplane seat to get him back to CA. The old guy was doing his victory dance in the end zone and the game still has time on the clock. He had no legimate reason to be in MA other than to gloat. I hope it costs him the nomination.

The best thing that could happen is a McCain-Romney debate (sans Huckabee) on the economy.
