AUSTIN, Texas--A state representative in Texas just declared her support for Barack Obama, which wouldn't be news worth writing home about except for two things:
She used to be a supporter of Hillary Clinton, and she's one of those crucial superdelegates who could help Obama lock up the Democratic presidential nomination.
Rep. Senfronia Thompson of Houston is part of what the Obama camp hopes will be a continuing flood of defections at every level of party officialdom.
Obama supporters believe a floodgate might have opened yesterday with the switch of Atlanta congressman John Lewis, formerly one of Clinton's most prominent backers.
We won't bother you with every drop and trickle here on the Swamp, but, if you're on the Obama e-mailing list, don't expect the same treatment.

"We won't bother you with every drop and trickle [of Obama news and minutae] here on the Swamp..."
That would be a vast change from what you've been doing the past year.
Which year featured Swamp articles on Obama walking his dog, and Obama blowing his nose.

Just watched the Bush press conference and even though he mentioned that Barack Obama should be worried about Hillary Clinton rather than other things like foreign affairs, he kept referring to Mr Obama. That coupled with John McCains comments yesterday make it clear who the republicans are ready to take on in November. I think March 4th will settle the matter. Should Hillary have a poor showing, I feel confident that she will withdraw and back Barack Obama. I think at the end of the day they have quite a bit of respect for each other. Kinda like Irish Mickey Ward and Arturo Gatti after their three legendary boxing showdowns.

Senfronia is one of many black lawmakers that are being intimidated by folks to "tow the line" with regards to supportin Obama. While her district is racially mixed, without her base in the African-American community, she won't be able to fend off a primary challenger -- and there are many out there looking at the Obama / Clinton split as an opportunity to get rid of a lot of "old guard" black democrats who have maintained a lock on their seats through gerrymandering and inside-baseball-type politics.

McCain's birth in Panama raises anew a "musty debate" about eligibility: Because he was born in the Panama Canal Zone, where his Naval officer father was stationed at the time, Sen. John McCain's bid for the presidency has raised a legal debate that has never officially been settled -- can U.S. citizens who born outside the continental U.S. grow up to become president? The issue, which centers on the wording in the Constitution that only a "natural-born citizen" can be president, has not been fully tested in court. Others who have run for president who had similar situations include Republicans Barry Goldwater and George Romney. McCain legal adviser Theodore Olson says he's confident the senator is eligible, though Olson says he hasn't finished his research into the issue.

Bother me! The Clinton camp is the one who put this down to superdelegates weeks ago. That's their only winning strategy. Let's watch how it plays out.

It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that Rep. Senfronia Thompson changed her support. John Lewis did so because he has been threatened by Obama and his people. Obama told Lewis that if Lewis didn't switch his support, that Obama would back another candidate to challenge Lewis to his congressional seat. That, coupled with death threats and a trashing of his car, made Lewis switch. He did it because he has no conviction and not because he thinks Obama was the better candidate. In his heart, Lewis knows Hillary is the only one qualified to be President.

It appears sensible people have made up their mind about change. I was supporting the Clintons, but when I went to their rallies, there is too much political venoms from both Hillary and Bill. This turned me off. I am very surprised that this type of anger, and whining , trying to blame everyone for their downfall. They sound just like Linbaugh, Hannity, Scarborough and Anderson of the news media. I went to Obama's rally, and this guy talks about helping people, making a better government and country, looking into the future with hope and the desire to change,. He is so inspirational, and whatever experience he has, he displayed excellent attitude. He speaks with confidence and you have to believe. You feel so relaxed and there is hardly any tension. I know that he is not God, but he is human, but I feel this man has great qualities and will be a GREAT leader, if given the chance. But one must remember he will have to go against the news media, and the fact that he is a BLACKMAN, which as usual, I hope he does not meet the same fate as the Kennedys and King....I am white, and will definitely vote for him,....

Since when is it okay to threaten people - this is disgusting. If Barack Obama was the real deal - he would be the first to denounce it. His silence is proof that he is nothing more than a silver tongued politician that plays hardball politics well. The American people are being bamboozled.

Democratic Party leaders are realizing that they cannot afford to have this go on past Tuesday.
The Republicans are gaining momentum while the Democrats fight.
It's become apparent that Hillary did not win the debates. Without that, the elections will be close. The super delegates realize they must decide now in hopes that their party will not spend several more months fighting. That is a sure way to lose the election in the fall.

"Democrats outside the Clinton campaign said she must build her recovery -- particularly in Ohio -- on white voters who do not have a college degree. "Non-college whites are the key," one Democratic strategist noted Wednesday.
Great news for America should we nominate Hillary...why can she not get any educated voters to support her? What is turning off all these people with higher educations? No offense to those who for one reason or other were unable to achieve a college education, but should we be nominating the candidate who can only appeal to undereducated white voters? Isn't this why the Democrats keep LOSING national elections, because we can't put together a strong enough coalition? Call me an elitist snob, but I;d like to have someone in office that the educated people in this country think is a good candidate.

A couple things: The polls are of people with telephone landlines…people under 30 tend not to even have a landline (so those of us under 30 aren’t reflected in the polls). The second thing: Please read Sen. Obama’s ‘The Audacity of Hope.’ His book makes very clear why Sen. Obama should be elected president in November. Thanks.

Consider Black Clinton defectors as a "dirty political gift" to Obama candidacy.
This is a Clinton racial strategy, asking Black Clinton backers to defect to Obama. At the end, the message the Clintons want politics and voter to understand is this:
" Whites voters and superdelegates, please vote for us because blacks are voting for their guy Obama."
Question: is that a unifying America ?
Is that a strategy for Clinton who publicly says that she'll heal America from past wounds including racial divides ?
I don't think...

Chris says "Call me an elitist snob, but I;d like to have someone in office that the educated people in this country think is a good candidate."
Ok! Done.
You are kind of missing Obama's whole point, that real change only happens in a democracy if everyone participates in self-government. No one needs a college education to recognize leadership, judgement, honesty and fairness. Infact sometimes college educations get in the way.

Why does it always come down to the basest level? Race...Sex...the types of "truths" the philistines of the US live by, and what the Machiavellian politicians bank on. And sadly, I believe they have a point--to a point. From reading posts online, to reading the recent "Latino voters don't trust blacks" story today (paraphrased, but SLIGHTLY), it looks like working the lowest common denominator does indeed have an effect, even on highly informed voters--baffling as that is to me. But it doesn't save these tactics from being disgusting.
For most of 2007, Mrs. Clinton had my vote easily and without question. But from my POV, the Clinton campaign has been running this kind of ignoble campaign from Dec. of 2007 on. It's only now that we're starting to see the pimple come to a large, unsightly head in the past week: the "photo leak" and attempt to turn it into another "shame on you" moment for Obama; the unfair press, debate questions, etc.; pointing out how historic and different it would be to see a WOMAN in the whitehouse (loud cheer from the women in Ohio), etc.
Mr. Obama has not done this. He simply does not go there, despite his opposition's desperate attempts to drag him into the ditch with them. His supporters may go-off on the internet, in the press, etc., but you have never heard Obama directly pander to his constituency based on RACE (could you imagine the outcry? Seriously!). And indeed he has never, as far as I can tell, initiated an attack on Clinton based on anything but the ISSUES. He has simply proven himself a more mature, grounded leader who can stay for the most part above the fray and dismiss divisive, and ultimately irrelevant attacks with a flick.
Seeing folks posting comments like: Leaders were "threatened" by Obama to vote for him (er-source please?), and alluding to a change in support to happen solely on basis of race (I'm not a doctor, but bear in mind it is MRS. Thompson, isn't it?), is simply sad...particularly so considering these are the just primaries.
She lost my vote on her voting record in Congress, and on her inability to conduct herself (or her campaign) in a responsible mature manner.
a PS: If she CRIES on camera one more time...Thatcher didn't cry! Ghandi didn't cry! Hell, even Laura BUSH doesn't cry on camera!

Can someone please supply evidence that Obama campaign is threatening people and that John Lewis' car was trashed? It is my understanding that some of the superdelegates who planned to vote with Hillary even though their constituents overwhelmingly supported Obama are facing the possibility of not being reelected. People are exercising the power of the vote. If the representative doesn't listen to the voice of the people, then they should be held accountable. I'm sure there are Clinton supporters who feel the same.

YOU MIGHT BE AN IDIOT:-)
If you think Barack Obama with little or no experience would be better than Hillary Clinton with 35 years experience.
You Might Be An Idiot!
If you think that Obama with no experience can fix an economy on the verge of collapse better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) led the greatest economic expansion, and prosperity in American history.
You Might Be An Idiot!
If you think that Obama with no experience fighting for universal health care can get it for you better than Hillary Clinton. Who anticipated this current health care crisis back in 1993, and fought a pitched battle against overwhelming odds to get universal health care for all the American people.
You Might Be An Idiot!
If you think that Obama with no experience can manage, and get us out of two wars better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) went to war only when he was convinced that he absolutely had to. Then completed the mission in record time against a nuclear power. AND DID NOT LOSE THE LIFE OF A SINGLE AMERICAN SOLDIER. NOT ONE!
You Might Be An Idiot!
If you think that Obama with no experience saving the environment is better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) left office with the greatest amount of environmental cleanup, and protections in American history.
You Might Be An Idiot!
If you think that Obama with little or no education experience is better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) made higher education affordable for every American. And created higher job demand and starting salary's than they had ever been before or since.
You Might Be An Idiot!
If you think that Obama with no experience will be better than Hillary Clinton who spent 8 years at the right hand of President Bill Clinton. Who is already on record as one of the greatest Presidents in American history.
You Might Be An Idiot!
If you think that you can change the way Washington works with pretty speeches from Obama, rather than with the experience, and political expertise of two master politicians ON YOUR SIDE like Hillary and Bill Clinton..
Best regards
jacksmith...

Some of us may have learned from mistakes we have made in the past that have hurt people and have necessarily lowered our sense of entitlement and grandoisity, that we yet can be forgiven.
That said, we can still be of service and do so honestly and humbly. And when that time for service comes we again, this time we can be ready to do our jobs sincerely in the background, while someone new and without any such stigma takes the lead.
Many of us in that situation should offer our service to a new presidency under Barack Obama.

Why does anyone assume that these claims that the Obama people are intimidating and threatening superdelegates are true? All sorts of unsupported and false claims have been made about Obama. Cite a new story from a reputable source saying that Obama is behind such threats, and if you can't cite a reputable source, don't expect to be believed by anyone with any sense.
