'Plenty of mud:' Bush goes biking, returns muddy: The Swamp

It's cold and gray in Washington today.

But that didn't stop the mountain-biker-in-chief from making his appointed rounds in the muddy woods of Maryland.

"On an overcast and dreary morning'' today's White House pooler reports, the president "hopped aboard his ride to the Secret Service training facility in Beltsville, Md, at 8:26 a.m. ( EST). The entourage arrived at 8:51 a.m.

"After some bicycling unseen by your pool, the convoy was rolling again at 10:29 a.m. The return route took in some city streets of Southeast (Washington), passing some boarded up housing and the Historic Congressional Cemetery. An uneventful return to the White House ended at 10:56 a.m.

"No sighting of the president, although a trail bike carried back showed it had been through plenty of mud.''

With thanks to pooler Bartholomew Sullivan of Scripps Howard News Service, who notes that we will see no more such notes today because at the W.H. now, "a lid has been called.''
