President Bush: Home for the Super Bowl: The Swamp

Several dozen young men and women assembled behind a chain line on the South Lawn drive of the White House today for the arrival of Marine One on a sunny, hazy afternoon, with warm rays penetrating the February haze and the monuments shrouded in climate change.

The presidential helicopter swooped in, made a pivot and cast a chopper-blade wash of dead grass across the drive. The president of the United States, home after a week of cross-country promotion of his State of the Union messages, stepped out wearing a sporty dark gray jacket with a fine plaid woven into it, black slacks and a red tie on a white shirt.

He fired a salute and walked across the grass to the east end of the reception line behind the chain and worked his way toward the door. Bush shook hands and hugged and posed for pictures with the young ones and then waved a wagging hand at the reporters assembled on the drive as he entered the White House at 12:45 pm EST with a smile but without a word for us on his Super Bowl pick. And that's it for "public'' events at the White House today.

Make sure he doesn't choke on a pretzel while watching the game.
