A Clinton-Obama ticket?: The Swamp
The Swamp

The Swamp

by Frank James

Sen. Hillary Clinton this morning evidently indicated she was open to the possibility of what many Democrats have called a dream ticket, in which she and her rival for the Democratic presidential nomination, Sen. Barack Obama, run together, she presumably heading the ticket.

She made her comments on CBS News' "Early Show," one of the several morning shows she did today as she took a victory lap following her wins in the Texas, Ohio and Rhode Island primaries.

This is how the Associated Press reported what she said:

WASHINGTON (AP) — Hillary Rodham Clinton is hinting at the possibility of sharing the Democratic presidential ticket with Barack Obama, but says voters still have to decide the party nominee.

Clinton says: "That may be where this is headed, but of course we have to decide who is on the top of ticket. I think the people of Ohio very clearly said that it should be me."

Obama is playing down his losses Tuesday in three out of four primaries, including the battlegrounds of Texas and Ohio. He stresses that he is still ahead of Clinton in the delegate count.

In appearances on the morning talk shows, both Democrats say they have the credentials to go head to head with Republican nominee-in-waiting John McCain.

The two rivals are very close on most of the major issues so this wouldn't be an oil and water mix, at least on that score.

Despite all the heated rhetoric and the hostility of the warring political camps, such a match wouldn't be the first time two such rivals buried the hatchet for the sake of party unity.

The best most recent example of this would be the ticket shared in 1980 by Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, the latter man having famously ridiculed the former's supply-side economic ideas as "voodoo economics."

In 1960, there wasn't a lot of love lost between the John F. Kennedy people and the Lyndon B. Johnson either. But they made it work.

So it wouldn't be unprecedented. And it would certainly hold out the chance of unifying what could otherwise be a very divided party.

One possible problem and it's not insignificant. Clinton has been campaigning for the better part of a year on the premise that she's got to the experience to be president and Obama doesn't.

After undermining Obama's experience and saying he doesn't measure up for the job, how could she then turn around and choose him as her veep who would be only a heartbeat away from the Oval Office? That's a pivot that would be hard for even Michael Jordan in his prime to pull off.

Then there's the elephant in the room, or better yet, the Big Dawg in the room. What would a White House with a President Hillary Clinton, a former President Bill Clinton and a Vice President Barack Obama look like? How would it work? Could it work?

This would truly be a dream ticket, especially for the Washington media.

Imagine the kinds of stories about policy and personality clashes that would emanate from such a White House. Imagine the leaks as the Obama people tried to advance their man and the Clinton people tried to put him back in his place.

Imagine a high-wattage politician like Obama upstaging the lesser wattage Clinton.

We're talking a reality TV show that could make "Survivor" look tame. We're talking journalistic nirvana.

GO HILLARY!!!!!

HILLARY ALL THE WAY!!!!

HILLARY!! HILLARY!! HILLARY!!

Dream Ticket?!? Unfortunately, I don't believe either Clinton or Obama are really qualified for the job... and whoever wins will need to pick a running mate with some experience. And frankly, I simply don't trust Hillary and I won't vote for any ticket that has the name Clinton or Bush on it; we will be the laughing stock of the world if our democracy "elects" a Bush, a Clinton, another Bush, then another Clinton.

My dream ticket would look more like Richardson/ Biden or maybe Gore/ Richardson... and since it's going to come down to a brokered convention in August who knows who we'll get, but it doesn't look like it's going to be up to the voters anymore.

I wouldn't mind Obama as President with Hillary as VP. But SHE'S done nothing but attack Obama and point out how inept she thinks he is. And then she'd consider making him her running mate?

Maybe she doesn't think she can pull it off without him.

It would be a dream ticket for McCain. The democratic primary has created division that would not be bridged by this Clinton trickery.

So even if Hillary doesn't win, she will prostitute herself to get into office at any cost and no matter how personally compromising that may be. Um, is that what this country really wants in a leader...?

"I think the people of Ohio very clearly said that it should be me."

And this week, only Ohio counts.

I don't see the benefit of having them on the same ticket, except as a "Garsh, other side, your guy/gal gets to ride along too, so won't you come along?" (In Obama's case this has to go with "even though he won based on the minor matter of winning elections, but those don't count in Hillaryland" so I don't see it working.)

Each candidate would benefit from a veep with greater executive experience. And since I don't think we're talking about a Cheney veephood, each would benefit, in terms of advancing the issues they care about, from staying in the Senate over being the other's funeral-goer. (Also consider, Clinton doesn't think Obama's qualified to do anything, so what would he get to do as veep? And, looking at the specter of Al Gore, who wants to be offered the "coattails" of the next round of Clinton scandals?)

The Clinton's are just spinning right now. From the Convention-style celebration last night (confetti, balloons) to comments like the one in this AP report (that she would share HER ticket with Obama).

If she can spin these primary victories and reshape the conversation, then it will distract the electorate from the reality: the country is earning for change (as evidenced by the rise of Obama and by the Republicans sending in The Maverick).

I'd go for the Dream Ticket in either combination, and I think many democrats would agree.

Don't forget that Edwards is still out there waiting. I wouldn't be surprised if he pops up as Hill's veep, should she get the nomination.

Hillary / Obama, or Obama / Hillary, either way -- leads to a landslide Dem win, IMO.

Well, Hillary will swamp Obama in Pennsylvania and finish him off with a 3 to 1 victory in Puerto Rico..the last primary. If he wont concede them, revotes in Florida and Michigan will seal the deal and keep him from even being the vice presidential nominee.

Gerald Schwartz
Former Deputy Chairman
Democratic Midwest Conference

Lets not forget that Barack's significant delegate lead was barely affected by what happened last night. It is still almost impossible for HC to catch up. The voters should decide who the nominee is- not strongarm political tactics!
Obama 08!

Go Hillary

Obama is still ahead of the race and he can still get the nomination.
I've lost complete respect for Hillary and Bill Clinton by their actions in this campaign. She will win at all costs and she will stoop real low with racism, and ageism. I'll vote Nader if she gets the nomination and I'll become an independent. Obama is the only reason why I'm staying in the party because he offers unity for the United States.

If Hillary chooses Obama as her running mate he will get the on-the-job training he so desperately needs. Hillary, the experienced professional of 35 years, would be the one to choose all the proven leaders in her cabinet and staff. She is way ahead of Obama in knowing whom to choose. At least half of Bush's troubles can be traced to those chosen for his cabinet and staff. Hillary wins here, hands down. Hillary is a strong, and magnanimous woman who would make Obama's role meaningful. On the other hand, I am sure Obama would not choose her to be his vice-president.

Last week, I attended a business meeting that was made up of representatives from nations in Europe, Asia, the Americas, Africa, and Australia. After breaking the ice about Barack Obama (someone they all seemed to adore), these folks could not understand why a country like the US could want Hillary Clinton.

This group mentioned that the US fought for independence from a monarchy, and thought of itself as a land of the free and an open society. Yet, we are addicted to the Bush-Clinton families, especially when better choices are available. I was not able to give a good answer, other than the US voters are not the brightest sometimes (they all agreed on that).

Our country is so stuck on the politically correct divisions, familiar names, and slick advertising that we have lost our way. I agree with Bruce that the best choices are long gone: Richardson, Biden, Gore, etc. I think the Republicans have a solid choice in McCain. Obama is impressive, but would be a bit of a risk.

If we MUST elect a woman, why not a woman with real experience as a leader like Nancy Pelosi, the Governor of Kansas, or someone who has earned it?

If Hillary is the choice, even with Obama as her VP, McCain gets my vote. Too many Americans died to end aristocracy, and no matter what it is called, another Bush-Clinton White House is too depressing to contemplate.

Somebody tell me that Hillary didn't say that people finally discovered she was human. I heard her say that. After 35 years of "experience" people are finally discovering she is human? What a revelation!

That would be a historic moment and an absolute "Dream Ticket"!!!

I believe Hillary would only consider this "option" if she won the nomination. If Obama wins I doubt she would take second seat to him.

What a joke. Whoever would be on top of the ticket, one has only to recall the old adage of "Beware the enemy at your back." Remember, the veep is always just a heartbeat away from the presidency. Mentioning Johnson and Kennedy is not a comforting analogy. Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown.

dream ticket? maybe. saw an interesting video on how they could agree to share power:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5gN_Or3DdU

This election is a vote for or against the war. Although it would be nice to have a decision made already, I would like to see the 2 candidates stop the same old campaign rhetoric against each other, and turn it towards McBush. Lets see who can take the best shots at this continuation of the Bush administration.

This country is not as open minded as you think Swamp. When it is all said and done, MCcain will win only because he is a white man. That is it. Beat around the Bushes all you want. This is America who's fooling who? People don't care if the Republicans send the remaining of our jobs to our former enemies: China, South Korea, Vietnam-we give them a lot of trade and buy goods they make. We give Israel 30 billion a year; yet, Chicago's mass transit is 60 years old. Our roads, bridges, infrastructure is archaic. We are a society with working poor who can't afford basic health care. Republicans call National Health Care Socialism or something Communist Russia would have; yet, Canada and France has free health care. We have more young people committing crimes and housed in dangerous, prisons not fit to house even wild animals; yet, we are afraid of change. The American people will forget about Bushes poor performance of 8 years which are impeachable years, and they will feel it is better to stick with a sure thing, a 72 year old white guy name McCain, who by Nature is a War Hawk, and will continue to keep the Iraqi war going and who will invade Iran and send troops in to war with Venezula to show them, America is the boss like it was in the 40's and Britian and American still rule the natives on the planet. Cuba will continue to suffer. The children in Haiti will continue to eat dirt.

A Clinton/Obama ticket or visa-versa would be excellant! Either way, we move America forward while giving our country back to US and would show the world that we are ready for a truly remarkable change.

Though I'm partial to Obama, I like Clinton too. So the two of them as running mates...I like the idea.

To those that say Obama is ahead in the delegate count this morning ahead of Clinton one point is left out...those delegates which Clinton has won in Michigan and Florida.
Their voices will be heard and their votes will be counted..so, when you argue about who has how many delegates do not disregard those numbers.
Obama being ahead in delegates at this juncture is just not a factual argument.
Clinton/ Obama ticket..works for me.

Hillary has won the big states that are needed in general election. Obama has won little states he may have won more states but the delegates count between them is not that far off. Now that the American people are relly seeing Obama true picture as a calculating and cunning politician. Many don't like what the see, The candidate of hope and change is just like any other Washington status Que politician.

The story of a Clinton - Obama ticket for make a good story for a while, but it probably not happen. But you never know. Remember the old saying
that "politics make strange bedfellows."

Obama can barely contain his arrogance and smugness.

These are not the qualities of a uniter or a vice president.

I think it's good to have this choice of the two, why do we have to decide right now...leave it up to the people..why rush it.
This is great politics....McCain doesn't have a chance..who wants another Bush for four more years..good grief

I would also like a river of chocolate and a big vault of gold and cash (like Scrooge McDuck's!) while we're visiting fantasy land.

Here's the news, Dems, Hillary will NEVER agree to be Obama's VP. Never. She feels she's ready to be president and he's not. And she feels she's waited her turn and knows that since she's in her '50s it won't come again.

As for Obama being Hill's VP? Highly doubtful. Let's remember, first off, that he's been acting prickly ever since Hillary started going after him with her ads, like the 3AM call ad. If he doesn't loathe Hillary he certainly doesn't respect her. Last week, he was having Dick Turbin go on the Sunday talk shows and say Hillary should drop out.

What could Obama accomplish as Clinton's VP? Remember how waiting patiently for his turn while Bill and Hillary ran the administration worked out for Al Gore? And with Bill around would he EVER be able to do anything at all as VP?

He'd be better off staying in the Senate and working on actual legislation and maybe even doing something for the first time in his life for the voters of Illinois. A majority senator has much more to do in the public eye than the vice president when first man is Bill Clinton.

Also, let's remember that the VP slot is highly tied to electoral politics. Do any of you honestly think that two arch liberals from the far North whose policy positions can't be separated by a playing card are the key to the democrats winning ANY state in the south? Like they didn't in 2004? Remember, one was born in Illinois and the other brings the rich electoral bounty of... Hawaii.

Hey, I hope they do it. I'd love to see Arkansas go against Clinton and Obama try to rally the troops in Mississippi against Haley Barbour. That ought to be good for a few laughs.

I would be happy to see them put aside the political mud slinging and make it work as a team. The real question is this - Is the United States ready for a woman and a black man to hold the two top spots in our government ? Are we mature enough to handle it, or will there be temper tantrums and crying because people are still holding on to their prejudices ? I personally think it is long overdue, and God knows it has to be better than Senator McNasty and whoever his flunky running mate is.

She's won three primaries to Obama's 12 since Super Tuesday and is now talking about putting him on her ticket?

Is that arrogance, spin, or a twisted strategy? The people of Ohio aren't THAT important.

Any ticket with Clinton anywhere on it sends me to the Libertarian candidate, or even, God forbid, Ralph Nader. If McCain weren't pro-war, I'd vote for him.

P.S. -- Frances, have you actually counted up her 35 years of experience, or are you just eating up what the media feeds you? For example, being first lady doesn't count...in Arkansas or DC. That's 10+ years right there.

I would LOVE Clinton/Obama. Not sure she'd go for the No. 2 spot, if she doesn't win the nomination. Edwards has said before he wouldn't run as VP again. But who knows. He was my No 1 choice and I was disappointed when he dropped out.

It's only a dream ticket for the Republicans.

Obama/Biden makes a lot more sense.

Clintons have fleeced the office more than any other President in History.
Bill is still selling himself out to the highest bidder.
The fact the Texas voted for her should be an eye opener for everyone.
She is as corrupt as they come and is beating up Obama with lies.
He billed 4 hours to a charity that had ties with Tony R. Hilary new this but still accused him of working for a slum landlord.
This is coming form a women who billed thousand of hours to Wal-mart while working on contracts with China. These Hillary contracts did cost us American jobs by the hundreds of thousands.
Too bad Obama didn't call her on it right away.
Then we get Hillary trying to scare us with her fear commercials.
Did you learn that from Bush?
Next we get fake reports of Obama talking to the Canadians.
Hilary Clinton is a liar who will say anything.
The republicans want her to win because they know she cannot beat them.
Wake up America the Clintons continue to sell us out every day.
Look at how Bill is schlepping around the world as a salesman for hire.
The Clintons where not rich until they got to Washington DC.
The Clintons lost the election for Gore (the Monica affair still lingers) do you think she stands a chance against McCain? The Republicans do not think so and neither do I.

If Hillary chooses Obama as her running mate he will get the on-the-job training he so desperately needs. Hillary, the experienced professional of 35 years, would be the one to choose all the proven leaders in her cabinet and staff. She is way ahead of Obama in knowing whom to choose. O.K. slappy Hillary-bot we got it. Jesus H Christ, enough with the cheerling. This isn't highschool!!!

Frances comments like yours only point out how misinformed, or down right stupid the average Hillary supporter is. First let me say your comment is ridiculous. Secondly the reason these two could be stuck with each other,is because the race is so SO DIVISIVE. The two running on the same ticket may be necessary in order to keep both of their constituencies in tow. There is a very real chance that one, or the others supporters could abandon ship and bolt to John McCain who is a fairly moderate republican other that his stance on the war. In short bone up on your poilitics. I quote The Swamp "The best most recent example of this would be the ticket shared in 1980 by Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, the latter man having famously ridiculed the former's supply-side economic ideas as "voodoo economics."

"In 1960, there wasn't a lot of love lost between the John F. Kennedy people and the Lyndon B. Johnson either. But they made it work."

Think about it and get used to the idea Frances.

Better start find some positive things to say about Mr Obama because he will be a big part of democratic politics, one way or the other. In other words, HILLARY CHEERLEADERS GET YOUR HEADS OUT OF YOUR A%S!!!

Maybe Hillary could let Bill be her vp . And Monica could be the second lady...LOL

The only dream team I can see is Obama/Edwards

Hillary promised a wider war in Afganistan in her speech last night.

We will need hundreds of thousands of troops in any attempt to fully invade Afganistan.

This is Lyndon
Johnson and the Vietnam War all over again. Just where does she intend to get the troops necessary to fight HER WAR in the mountains of Afganistan? If hillary really believes that the members of NATO will join our troops in Afganistan she is delusional. Europe has no intention of getting involved in the Middle East, contribute any money to a wider war in the Middle East and once again our nation will find itself fighting alone and paying the bills.

More of the usual Washington insider B/S! Another shot at an ecconomy based on the Military Industrial Complex. Young american men and women finding themselves in the military to defend corporate interests overseas.

Get ready to build a new Memorial War because Afganistan will be a larger quagmire than Iraq.

You will also see the repeal of the Bush tax cuts.
An extension of the alternative Minimum Tax.
A larger Capital Gains tax.
Amnesty II with family re-unification bringing an estimated 150 to 200 million South Americans and the poor of Mexico into this nation.

Open borders.

Most of all you will see a new tax checkoff box on your paycheck to pay for her GOVERNMENT RUN HEALTH CARE PLAN! You thought the social secuity tax was high. Well you haven't seen anything yet. They intend to take over 15% of the Amereican ecconomy by nationalizing Health Care which is nothing more than an attempt to take over 15% of the means of production in this nation. So kiss your health insurance paid by your employer goodbye. Have no doubt she intends to cover non tax paying "guestworkers" under her National Health Care Plan. Government run Health Care will destroy this nations private Health Care system put hundreds of thousands if not millions of Americans on the unemployment line as they see their jobs disappear and given to federal workers in the largest expansion of the federal government in history.

hillary also intends to give illegal immigrants the Right to Vote.

Socialism here we come.

As to her new trial ballon of "graciously letting" Barack Obama have the VP slot once again Black Americans will find themselves in the back of the bus as Obama is quickly assigned to the old roll of being a VP that only attends foreign funerals and other foreign social occassions.

Bill will be non elected VP.

Howard Dean announced last night that the DNC WILL NOT change the rules in mid stream and allow a second vote in Florida and Michigan. Howard Dean also stated the DNC will not seat the Florida and Michigan delegates voted on in non contested primaries that ALL candidates including the Clintons agreed would not count.

Now Hillary and her Campaign Managers are telling the DNC that it has no power under her Socialist agenda and that there will be a second Florida and Michigan primary.

This is unbelievable. Washington insiders called Super Delegates under the guise of P/C will be choosing the democratic candidate in smoke filled back rooms.

The Clintons are nullifying democracy and our Constitutional Right to Vote. Washington politicans are attempting to establish themselves as the new Proletariat.

I cannot believe they are going to allow her to steal Obama's nomination at the convention under the guise of the Super Delegates and nullify the entire primary system.

When will Americans wake up!

I'm surprised all the papers this morning made it look like Hillary's won something.

She needed 22 touchdowns to win. She kicked a field goal.

Right! don't hold your breath Hilly. Yeah I'm sure You're just what Obama would want for a VP. And while he's at it he can paint a great big bullseye on his back. Oh well, I guess this nonsense has to drag on for yet ANOTHER month or two. News flash: You're not ENTITLED to be president just because you're Hilly, and you're not GONNA be. No matter WHAT you do, how much you scheme, and plot, and connive, and backbite, and undermine, and fear monger. It's NOT GONNA HAPPEN! so give it up already.

She woke up and realized that she has alienated the monlithic African American vote by playing the race card. And she wants them back or the dems lose. If they have any pride they will abandon her rather than being bought off. What a joke Obama wins and gets to carry Hillary's briefcase. We all know that Bill will be the VP in fact if not name.

I understand you're excited, Mr James, but mightn't the use of "put him back in his place" regarding Obama be a rather unfortunate choice of words?

You're free, of course, to introduce a correction!

["Imagine the leaks as the Obama people tried to advance their man and the Clinton people tried to put him back in his place."]

I think the problem with Clinton as a VP is that she will bring out the voters in record numbers and energize them as never before, unfortunately they will all be republicans.

Obama is still in the lead and needs to choose a VP with strong foreign policy experience and impeccable credentials.

Experience and integrity are two things he won't find in Hillary. She is the politics of the past and he is about the future. With Obama's vision and inspiration and a strong prgmatic VP you have the real dream ticket.

All McCain needs to do is replay Hillary's red phone ad with him answering the phone and she is dead in the water.

Do a reality show on this if they get into the White House. Bill the husband, Hillary the Prez, and Obama the water boy, heh.

Apparently, Dems fail to realize that Hillary can't beat McCain but Obama can. If you want a Democrat in the Oval Office, select one that can actually get there!

I'm a hardcore Republican and I know for certain that McCain will get his clock cleaned against Obama.

Heaven help us...

Dream ticket?

Sounds more like a nightmare to me!

A true dream ticket for this country would be the truly American leadership of Alan Keyes and Sam Brownback.

www.alankeyes.com

hillary clinton makes my skin crawl

Dream ticket schream ticket. Both of these fools will get McCrushed once they start talking about policy. Both Hil and Obam support:
1) Higher taxes
2) Redistribution of wealth
3) Crushing expansion of entitlements
4) Weakened military.
5) Catering to dictators.

shall I go on? Sure why not:
6) McCain will show that silly 3am commercial and his experience will win the day.
7) National security will be an important issue and McCain will be the front runner.
8) The economy will be an important isssue and McCain will be the front runner. How do you improve the economy by raising taxes??

I agree with America First....Most of us espically black are voting for Barak because we will like to see change...Most blackmen understand that Females needs to be uplifted from her state...

We all know that a Female will be great in the "WHITE-HOUSE"...the problem is the name it speaks for it self...The white house should be call the house of government or something like that...

If Barak does not win and Hillary wins if I was Barak
I will not run for VP we've been at the VP position in America for over 400 years...

Another thing have you looked at McCain audience where are the Blacks?...that should tell you that McCain will do nothing...

Blacks if Barak loses... turn your back on America....And look inward.

Hillary Clinton must be stopped. Her ego is out of control. We don't need another egomaniac in Washington. We need Obama!

GO HILLARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hillary is doing whatever it takes to win, even if it weakens the party.

If Obama gets the nomination, Hillary's shortsighted attacks will be recycled and used against him.

Well, if you can't win on the issues and crying no longer works, just throw as many negatives at your opponent as you can.

Hillary was asked about the "Obama is a muslim" smear campaign on 60 mintues and she wouldn't disavow it, even though the interviewer gave her plenty of chances to state that it's wrong and untrue.

It is mighty neighborly of clinton to talk about being on a dream team when she is behind in the pledged delegate count. But that is what the clintons do - spin. Go Obama. It is time our country put a real person in the office instead of someone from the same old failed washington crew like clinton or mccain.

Obama would be a fool to take the VP spot on a Hillary ticket. Everyone knows that Bill would be the Dick Cheney of a Hillary presidency.

And I can't see Hillary ever swallowing her ego enough to be Obama's VP.

"Last week, I attended a business meeting that was made up of representatives from nations in Europe, Asia, the Americas, Africa, and Australia. LIZ- please forward your comment to the Democratic Party HQ. TRUE Democrats want Obama

I've previously given this some thought and think it's an excellent idea. However, I don't necessarily believe the candidates running would agree? I like the idea for many reasons, but primarily because it is a method to establish all the change that's needed, without being so concerned with the time frame allowed by law for the number of terms & length. Of course, should they fail the American people... We do start from scratch again... don't we?

Can you add Supreme Court Justice Michelle Obama and William Jefferson Clinton as either Secretary of State or another SCJ? Then Al Gore as Secretary of the Environment?

Apparently, Dems fail to realize that Hillary can't beat McCain but Obama can. If you want a Democrat in the Oval Office, select one that can actually get there!

I'm a hardcore Republican and I know for certain that McCain will get his clock cleaned against Obama.

I believe that if all of the media hype about the significance of these last few states for each candidate, escpecially Hillary, didn't occur that the results of the votes would not be the same as they are on this morning. Hoewever, may the best man/woman win and may we all pray for the future leadership of our country.

as long as it not a republican

Let's be clear. Hillary is very smart. She knows she couldn't get elected without Obama. The question is will she be smart enough to accept the VP if Obama offers?

"This would truly be a dream ticket, especially for the Washington media.

Imagine the kinds of stories about policy and personality clashes that would emanate from such a White House. Imagine the leaks as the Obama people tried to advance their man and the Clinton people tried to put him back in his place.

We're talking a reality TV show that could make 'Survivor' look tame. We're talking journalistic nirvana."

Shame on you Tribune! You have just admitted you have no journalistic integrity and that you would rather report on insignificant fluff than on things that are important.

Citizens of this country couldn't care less about the trash the media likes to report on, we care about how the next president impacts on our daily lives and livelihood. Why is that so hard for you media types to wrap your heads around? Why don't you realize that the furthest thing from reality is reality TV?

Wow...so Obama still has the lead, but Hillary is smarmy enough to think that he's going to beg to be on her ticket?? What a b****.

I've come up with a few other things that we should ask for while we visit fantasy land:

1.) Unicorns... with wings!
2.) Gryffons
3.) A social security system that will work when there are more people retired than paying into it.
4.) The Yeti
5.) Blagojevich's children's healthcare system to not be bankrupt.

That's all.

Why does noone ever mention Evan Bayh? I've always been disappointed that Evan Bayh hasn't run for president.

He has tremendous experience at both adminstrative (GOV) and congressional (SEN), great intelligence, is very articulate, would play well in the heartland, and his boyish charm would be a great asset as well.

He would make a perfect VP choice.

Obama/Clinton or Clinton/Obama would be too devisive and polarizing.

This is probably one of the dumber things I've read today: "We give Israel 30 billion a year; yet, Chicago's mass transit is 60 years old. Our roads, bridges, infrastructure is archaic."

Oh, yes, it's Israel's fault that the CTA is screwed up! Sure. Could it be that the governor went to a hockey game instead of insuring that mass transit was even funded in in this state? You don't think that attitude at the state level has had ANY effect on making our transit situation so horrible? Puh-leaze.

You do realize your governor is the same guy who recently said $1 million of your tax money "went to the wrong place" and then offered no explanation of where that place is.

Yes, yes, it's all Israel's fault. You're probably the same person that believes Blago losing that million bucks has absolutely nothing to do with our taxes going up this year.

Last night Hill-Billy mentioned in her speech how the last how ever many elected presidents won the state of Ohio during their run for president and that the good people of Ohio know something about politics. (something to that extent) At work and don't have time to listen to her pathetic rhetoric again.

So is she saying the people of Ohio were correct in electing president Bush? The same president that she says has made this huge mess we are in? (home foreclosures, Iraq, etc.)

Is that a backhanded compliment to the face of Ohioans or people who continue to think she is the answer? If the good people of Ohio know something about politics and elected president Bush, is she implying her support of president Bush? Well she did vote yes for Iraq. Which is it Hill-Billy?

She keeps touting her 35 years of public service . . . 35 years she has been fighting for universal health care (supposedly her #1 agenda) and it still isn’t a reality. 35 years of public service – what has she done for you that makes you think she is worthy of a nomination? Wake up people, Hill-Billy isn’t the answer!

Clinton/Obama = Dream Ticket for 8 yrs...

Then

Obama/??? for another 8 yrs.
(By then Obama will have had his "on the job" training and will be ready to lead the Nation!!!!

I could live with that.

Hey, where's my earlier post about fantasy land?

obama is too smart to fall for the clintons and their tomfoolery. the people are swaying towards obama and hillary should be a gracious loser and step aside for someone with a vision for change!

This election is a vote for or against the war.

Believe it or not bill there are many , many , Americans who want to continue killing the bad guys instead of taking bundled cash from them.

Given that Obama has had to return nearly $200,000 in political campaign contributions linked to his indicted political patron Antoin "Tony" Rezko who is facing corruption charges for a variety of crimes, anything seemed possible.
RezkoWatch's original response is reposted below, followed by an Update.

Original Article
First, about Khaleel Ahmed: Libby Sander reported February 22, 2007, in the New York Times that Zubair A. Ahmed, 27, and his cousin, Khaleel Ahmed, 26, were arrested in Chicago on charges dating from at least as early as April 2004 through the date of the indictment "of conspiring to commit terrorist acts against American military personnel in Iraq, as well as others abroad, in an Islamic holy war against the United States and its allies."
The cousins "were taken into custody at their Chicago homes after a federal grand jury in Cleveland returned a fresh indictment in a pending terrorism case in which three Ohio men are already awaiting trial in Toledo.

The new indictment accuses the two Chicago men of plotting with the Ohioans "to kill or maim persons in locations outside of the United States," including members of the armed forces serving in Iraq.

It says the cousins, both United States citizens, sought training in firearms and countersurveillance from a person with an American military background. The indictment identified that person only as the Trainer. It describes the Trainer as an American citizen who communicated extensively with the three original defendants about paramilitary training but who was not engaged in the conspiracy.
Thankfully, the RW tipster provided the NYT link as well as information that led to the following:
On June 16, 2004, Khaleel Ahmed, 215 Orchard Avenue, Bensenville, Illinois, contributed $2,000 to Obama for Illinois. This was Ahmed's first and only political contribution.
Additionally, a search for his cousin's name, Zubair Ahmed, found this as well:
On June 16, 2004, Zubair Ahmed, 907 Polo Lane, Oak Brook, Illinois, contributed $500 to Obama for Illinois. This likewise was Zubair's first and only political contribution.
Part of the documentation in the indictment against the Ahmed cousins is about travel they planned and carried out in 2004—with their intended destination Afghanistan—between Chicago and Cairo, Egypt, via Istanbul, Turkey. On or about May 21, 2004, they flew from Chicago to Istanbul, then on May 23, 2004, from Istanbul to Cairo, "where they were intercepted in Cairo by Separately Indicted Co-Conspirator A and ZUBAIR's father, among others." On or about June 2, 2004, they returned to Chicago, where they remained until on or about July 3, 2004, when they traveled to a Muslim convention in Cleveland, Ohio, with Separately Indicted Co-Conspirator A with the intention of meeting up with co-conspiracists.

The June 2004 timeframe during which the cousins were present in the Chicago area provided for a window of opportunity to have made the campaign contributions to Sen. Obama's campaign on June 16, 2004.

Also on June 16, 2004, Syed L. Ahmed, an accountant from Chicago, contributed $1,000 to Obama for Illinois. What, if any relationship to either of the Ahmed cousins is unknown. However, all three obviously made their contributions on the same date.

Conclusion: Can RezkoWatch say with certainty that the Khaleel Ahmed and Zubair A. Ahmed who were indicted as terrorism conspirators are the same Khaleel Ahmed and Zubair Ahmed who contributed to Sen. Obama's Illinois campaign on June 16, 2004? Not with a 100% guarantee. Whether they are or not, the Obama campaign should investigate this if they are not already aware of the possibly embarrassing situation.

More information
At the time of their arrest in February 2007, the U.S. Department of Justice news release gave the addresses of the cousins as "Zubair A. Ahmed, age 27, resides at 3504 Green Bay Road, Apartment 309C, North Chicago, Illinois, and his cousin, Khaleel Ahmed, age 26, resides at 4501 N. Keystone Avenue, Chicago, Illinois."

More about the Ahmed cousins here and here. The superceding indictment is here.

UPDATE
Toledo, Ohio's WTOL11 reported February 25, 2008, that cousins Khaleel Ahmed and Zubair Ahmed and the three men from Toledo "accused of plotting to kill troops overseas begins in federal court" on March 4, 2008. Coincidentally—or not—March 4 is the date of the Ohio primary. It is also the day after jury selection begins in Chicago for indicted political fixer—and Obama patron—Antoin "Tony" Rezko's fraud trial.
Last April, two pleaded "not guilty" to the plot. Cousins Khaleel and Zubair Ahmed say they didn't do it, though federal agents say the group researched explosives and trained with snipers, surveillance equipment and suicide bomb vests.

U.S. prosecutors say they have one man saying on tape that he wanted to go back overseas and that, "This time if we die, we die."

The trial is expected to take three to four months, after which a local jury will decide if these men are guilty of terror and, therefore, spend the rest of their lives behind bars.
What are the odds of a presidential candidate being connected to two separate federal trials starting within 24 hours of each other that focus on two such improbable political campaign contributors all from Chicago?

And, to all appearances, there has been zip-zero-nada from the Obama campaign about this.

Bud: Would you consider this a good source ? The sad truth Bud, is Mr. Obama will never be able to get his arms around this one...it's going to be an ever wideing circle.

The Times of London reports that "The
court is also expected to hear from John Thomas, an FBI mole, who reportedly witnessed Mr Obama and Mr Blagojevich making frequent visits to Mr Rezko." [The Times, 3/3/08]

I like the idea of an Obama/Hillary ticket.

Clinton-Obama ticket? Forget it! After that destructive campaign? This woman is full of contradictions. Such a team will tarnish Obama's vision for change and renewal. Obama must reject such temptation. You hurls mud and turn around to me to help your chance of winning against McCain? No way. She must team up with Bill, and that is what it really about. She just wants to ride on and exploit the popularity and powerful message of Obama to her personal glory. „The world is watching“ Clinton and America. The world will laugh at American politics.

I Like the way BILL has used the low road of dirty scurge politics to bring inuendos at the last minute for Hillary to carry his mantle as the comeback kid,
Sorry OBAMA. "No Change to Politics as usual," Get used to Dirty Politics .

America First (above) certainly has a clear grasp of political and social reality, and I agree on each point. But I think McCain is beatable. However, if I can't vote for Obama, I won't vote at all. Hillary does not impress me as Democratic in the least. Her opportunism is just too plain to see. She has behaved badly and tactlessly, and always drags the debates to the lowest subject level. Insisting that Barak renounce Farrakahn had a blatantly racial and segregationist flavor, A kind of "confess your sins blasphemer" appearence.
Change? Hillary brings little or none.

. . . she will prostitute herself to get into office at any cost and no matter how personally compromising that may be.

Geez, lighten up, Don. Is she allowed to breathe or is that yet another indication of her ruthless ambition?
Would she accept an invitation by Barack to be his Veep? Sure, why not? There is nothing evil in that.

I think both of them are going to need a military man as Vice. Hillary has Wesley Clark and, dare I say it, Barack could make it a two-fer and ask Colin Powell.

NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS WILL THIS HAPPEN... She wins three primary's out of fifteen since Super Tuesday and she thinks that 3 victories gives her the right to be the nominee? What planet is she living on? Obama has 160 more pledge delegates than she does and she will never catch him. What she is really saying is that she is willing to concede if Obama chooses her as his running mate.
To borrow a quote from a republican (Mitt Romney) "The last thing you want is Bill Clinton in the White House with nothing to do" I couldn't agree with him more.

The vaunted 'Republican Hate Machine' and the often rumored, much feared (but never proven) VAST RIGHT-WING CONSPIRACY have NUTTIN'!!! on the democrats when they get to ripping and screaming and tearing at each other. These folks WROTE THE BOOK and we Republicans are LOVING it.

BTW I have Rush Limbaugh/Ann Coulter toilet paper so don't get to thinking that the conservatives are the only ones.

In the last two elections the Republican candidate was eminently beatable yet the Democrats managed to come up with the ONLY candidate he could beat.

Looks like you've got a streak going.

I'm not opposed to the idea, but I don't think Obama or Hillary wants to be Vice President. They are both in this race to be President. Nothing less.

I think they'd rather return to being Senators than be Vice President, hanging out behind the scenes. They want to be active, engaged and out in public helping the country. So, I don't think this 'dream ticket' will be a reality.

Also, from what we've seen to-date in the primaries, voters have been aligning with candidates with race in mind. That said, John Edwards must be VERY HIGH on both Obama's and Hillary's short-list of potential Vice Presidential running mates. No wonder Edwards hasn't endorsed a candidate yet!

Clinton/Obama = Dream Ticket for 8 yrs...

Obama/??? for another 8 yrs.
(By then Obama will have had his "on the job" training and will be ready to lead the Nation!!!!

I personally think this could never work. They have insulted each other enough times and seem to be polar opposites. If Clinton wins, she wouldn't pick Obama because he would outshine her. If Obama wins, he would have no reason to pick Clinton. Either way, though, I will vote for MCCAIN in '08.

I think this is the pnly way that either one can win. I have talked to a lot of HIllary supporters who say they will vote for McCain if she loses and the same thing with Obama supporters. The 2 sides are going to be even further apart as this moves on. I think that is why McCain poses the biggest threat to the Dems. If it were Huckabee they would not have to worry about Hilllary/Barrack's people moving over but with McCain they do. I havent heard it as much from Obamas people but HIlalry supporters will vote for McCain, if she loses, at a big enough rate to give him a win. My entier family are HIllary supporters and every single one says they will vote for McCain if she loses. Same with the focus groups that Fox news had with registered Democrats. Half of the 50 Hillary supporters said they would vote for McCain if she loses.

Hillary is so spineless. She goes around pointing out how incompetant Obama is, and now she wants him as her VP. Both of these ego maniacs will do or say anything to be elected. The BS is flowing thick on the dem side.

Spoken like a true Clinton supporter. I think allot of people counted Hillary out before last night, so ya might wanna keep your bigt mouth shut!

The people in Texas and Ohio just showed that they are feeling the buyers remorse on Obama. The more people are looking at him the mroe they are saying well maybe not. He had all the momentum, he outspent Hillary by a huge amount, and he still could not win. I am not a fan of HIllary but she just won 2 huge states with overwhelming odds stacked against her.

Gmoney:

In case you haven't noticed, the economy is going in the toilet under Bush, which is the policy that McCain will follow.

By the way, what IS his economic policy?? Has anyone heard what he will do??

I will NEVER vote for any ticket which includes Clinton.

Bubba would end up taking over as president and these two would be his gophers. Obama is way too passive to take on Bubba.

The Dems need a white guy with some military and/or foreign policy experience on the ticket, in order to create an illusion that they care about our national defense.

I'm taking a chance that Obama doubters and Clinton supporters will read the following, given the fact that the media brands most of her supporters as under-achievers and under-educated...

LADIES FIRST:

Records of these two candidates should be scrutinized in order to make an informed decision.

Senator Clinton, who has served only one full term - 6 yrs.- and another year campaigning, has managed to author and pass into law - 20 - twenty pieces of legislation in her first six years.
These bills can be found on the web site of the Library of Congress http://www.th omas. loc.gov/, but to save you trouble, I'll post them here for you.
1. Establish the Kate Mullany National Historic Site.
2. Support the goals and ideals of Better Hearing and Speech Month.
3. Recognize the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.
4. Name courthouse after Thurgood Marshall.
5. Name courthouse after James L. Watson.
6. Name post office after John A. O'Shea.
7. Designate Aug. 7, 2003, as National Purple Heart Recognition Day.
8. Support the goals and ideals of National Purple Heart Recognition Day.
9. Honor the life and legacy of Alexander Hamilton on the bicentennial of his death.
10. Congratulate the Syracuse Univ. Orange Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the championship.
11. Congratulate the Le Moyne College Dolphins Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the championship.
12. Establish the 225th Anniversary of the American Revolution Commemorative Program.
13. Name post office after Sergeant Riayan A. Tejeda.
14. Honor Shirley Chisholm for her service to the nation and express condolences on her death.
15. Honor John J. Downing, Brian Fahey, and Harry Ford, firefighters who lost their lives on duty. Only five of Clinton 's bills are, more substantive. 16. Extend period of unemployment assistance to victims of 9/11.
17. Pay for r city projects in response to 9/11? 18. Assist landmine victims in other countries.
19. Assist family caregivers in accessing affordable respite care.
20. Designate part of the National Forest System in Puerto Rico as protected in the wilderness preservation system.

There you have it, the fact's straight from the Senate Record.

Now, I would post those of Obama's, but the list is too substantive, so I'll mainly categorize. During the first - 8 - eight years of his elected service he sponsored over 820 bills. He introduced
233 regarding healthcare reform,
125 on poverty and public assistance,
112 crime fighting bills,
97 economic bills,
60 human rights and anti-discrimination bills,
21 ethics reform bills,
15 gun control,
6 veterans affairs and many others.

His first year in the U.S. Senate, he authored 152 bills and co-sponsored another 427. These included?**the Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006 - became law,?**The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act,- became law,&n bsp; **The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act, passed the Senate,?**The 2007 Government Ethics Bill,- became law,?**The Protection Against Excessive Executive Compensation Bill, In committee, and many more.

In all, since entering the U.S. Senate, Senator Obama has written 890 bills and co-sponsored another 1096.
An impressive record, for someone who supposedly has no record.
He's not just a talker.
He's a doer.

It is senseless to ponder this "dream ticket"

By placing Hillary on any democratic ticket, most independents, like myself, will run to the republicians to help keep her away...

another Clinton in the office will create more polarizing within this country and Bill the first man??? oh boy!

It's either Obama or I going to vote McCain!

Wow, a couple of "victories" and she thinks she's a shoe in for the nomination. Are we forgetting that Obama still leads in the delegate tally and is set to roll out another 50 superdelegates today?

I love the idea of another "Team of Rivals".

Think about it and read the book.

from the Land of Lincoln

Rey Flores, That's one wild dream you're having. Alan Keyes? Didn't he get about 10% of the vote in Illinois? Maybe he'd do better in a nationwide election where nobody knew him.

I would support a Clinton/ Obama ticket or Clinton/ ??? if Obama get the nod I a Democrat would vote Republican.

I love the insinuation that Hillary would choose Obama as her running mate when she is still behind by at least 100 delegates...

The president has no power to make changes in this country. It's the senate and house that legislate changes. Obama has failed to have any impact there. Why does anyone think he's going to make any changes as president? There's no meaning in that kind of talk. It's just hot air!

Putting Hillary on the ticket would cost Obama the Presidency. Hillary is the best thing that could happen to the Republican Party. She is the only way the Democrats can blow another shot at the White House.

Yes, the time has come to embrace a ticket with the potential for 16 years of strong Democratic leadership in the white house. Visit http://www.16yearplan.com and sign the petition to Howard Dean and the DNC.

I have 3 words for everyone: SUPREME COURT JUSTICES!

I am an Obama supporter, but most of all I want what is best for the Democratic party so we can take back the White House and prevent the repugs from stacking the Supreme Court.

The longer this goes on, the worse it is for our chances. If our candidates keep attacking eachother it will drive voters over to McCain. In addition, as the preumptive nominee, he is now free to attack Obama and Clinton for the next 8 months. The Democrats need unity sooner rather than later.

For all of you who say that if your candidate doesn't win the nomination that you will vote for McCain or Nader or withold your vote, I will repeat these words:

SUPREME COURT JUSTICES!

The only reason Edwards is out of the race is because he stood by his ethics. Edwards vowed not to take money from special interest groups or talk show hosts-and didn't. Obama reminds us that money talks and popularity contests still rule the mindless. Hopefully, Clinton has aligned with Edwards. As first lady, Clinton was the first to propose a national health care agenda. Edwards vowed that if Congress would not pass a national health care plan, through instrument of the presidential bully pulpit he would strip Congress of the free lifetime health care that they enjoy. That's bold. Obama stated he would use the bully pulpit to benefit the gay community, again playing to special interest groups. Edwards has always spoken straight to the issues that mean the most to all Americans, eloquently and unscripted. His focus, energy and consistency was as apparent in the Gore/Edwards presidential run as it is now. We need what's best for America as as one. Clinton/Edwards is the dream ticket.

I think the Democratic party is missing out on something very important to a lot of men in this country. Many men, myself included, feel that running this country is too much of a job for any woman to ever handle. I would not sleep comfortably at night knowing that we have a woman president, point blank... I consistently vote Democrat however if it comes down to Clinton winning the ticket I will vote for a Republican in a heart beat.

I've come up with a few other things that we should ask for while we visit fantasy land:
Posted by: Jeff | March 5, 2008 10:22 AM

You forgot to mention that anyone who would think a vote for McBush is any different than another vote for Bush and his failed policies. If you like where we are today...by all means, vote McBush. If you have had enough of a blundering administration, don't vote for anyone in particular, vote against 4 more years.

How can we even consider Hillary? She plays the game dirty like the best of political folk. Do we still fall for that? Do we still want that? Not me! Regarding issues Hillary is inconsistent, whatever works for her advantage in the campaign at the time. That's the only thing consistent about her. Obama has been real, Obama has been consistent in his views. Obama has only responded to attacks on him, he has to. Which person in the one with wisdom? Experience comes fast for an intelligent man. Don't let the fear card scare you. GO Obama!

I want Hillary to win and I want Barak to be the VP. I liked McCain 8 years ago; he is past his prime.

We do need change and this will be historic. I was out of the country for the better part of 2007 and believe me we are not looked upon kindly because of the war mongering.

Our young people are being killed and more maimed than ever before. Let's turn this around fast and rise above it all.

Hillary can manage Bill and she can partner with Barak. Women know how to partner. They know how to fight for what they believe in too and they can bridge unimaginable gaps.

And I am not a "woman's libber" as we used to be labeled in the past. I am a realist. I prefer the person who can get the job done, period.

Barb

A Clinton/Obama ticket will result in the biggest landslide win for the Repubs in history. A Hillary nomination without Obama would result in the lowest voter turn out ever because a choice between Clinton and McCain is no choice at all. American politics is pathetic.

I will not support Hillary Clinton for President or for VP. She is deceitful, manipulative and she will lie, kill and steal to get what SHE wants. If Senator Obama doesn't get the nomination due to her shananigans, I will vote for Ralph Nader on another 3rd party candidate. Seanaotrs Obama and Clinton are too different to run on the same ticket; he has integrity and she doesn't. He alo wants America to a gov't for and by the people; she wants it to be a gov't for and by her. She will serve herself, Bill and big corporations and Obama would never take the risk of lying down with dogs and getting up with fleas.

Hillary says she'll share the ticket with Obama as the VP?!? Whatever she's smoking, she certainly inhaled!

In the real world, Obama's 1400 delegates are MORE than Hillary's 1300 delegates.

Dream ticket?

Sounds more like a nightmare to me!

A true dream ticket for this country would be the truly American leadership of Alan Keyes and Sam Brownback.

Read Uncle Tom's Cabin. I'm sure Alan Keys has. In another life, he may have be

I cannot believe I let myself get sucked in after I vowed to leave politics alone after the last presidential election.
But then came Obama and pulled me back in. Took the nation by storm.
And now Hillary the Hope Killer is what I get for investing in a Dream.
I truly believe that what happened last night was not a turn in the election, but the work of crafty Republicans.
They control the media, and saw the benefit of extending the election and secretly got the word out for republicans to vote for Hillary.
It was a master stroke of genius. And I also believe there was some gratuitous ballot counting being done on her behalf.
He is done. Doesn’t matter what happens from here on out, this was his waterloo. And Yes I understand he has more delegates and super delegates.
But you watch the tide turn in the weeks to come. He is done and it appears the WE are the ones with all of the audacity to have such hope.

Clinton-Richardson is the better ticket. (Gender and ethnic diversity plus an understudy with experience.) Let Obama be the next Supreme Court justice where during his entire lifetime he can do more good than as the President for four to eight years.

Vinny says: "The people in Texas and Ohio just showed that they are feeling the buyers remorse on Obama. The more people are looking at him the mroe they are saying well maybe not. He had all the momentum, he outspent Hillary by a huge amount, and he still could not win. I am not a fan of HIllary but she just won 2 huge states with overwhelming odds stacked against her."

This makes no sense at all. Less than 1 month ago, Clinton was tracking 20 points ahead in both TX and OH. Moreover, she had the support of the Democratic establishment in both states. What "overwhelming odds" did Clinton overcome, exactly? Remember the "firewall" discussion?

Clinton knew she was tracking well in both states months ago - which is why she identified them as "firewall" states. Obama was never really supposed to be in either of these races, yet he lost TX by 3 and OH by 10. These are not blowouts. Losing 12 straight primaries/caucuses by 17+ points - now THAT'S a blowout. Also, Obama held his net delegate loss under 30, so he still leads in pledged delegates by about 120. Even counting the superdelegates, he's still up by about 85.

Bottom line: The real winner last night was John McCain. He'll have the general election field to himself for almost SIX MONTHS. The Democrats are, sadly, headed for a brokered convention.

Yes, the fact that these two campaigns are planning lawsuits against one another and that Obama's chief counsel jumps into the Hillary campaign's conference calls is all just proof that they'll kiss and make up.

That's without even getting into the mess of the Florida and Michigan delegations.

Hill-Billy is hinting at considering Obama as her vice-president because she thinks Obama voters/backers are naive and will consider voting for her and would concede to playing second fiddle. Her PR team is playing mind games with everyone.

I guess Americans want to live in a dual-monarchy - Bush and Clinton. Pathetic! I can't wait for Chelsea to rule over our country. Keep Clintons out of the house!

If the Democrats put Hillary on the ticket in _either_ slot, we may as well schedule McCain's inauguration for the day after the convention.

If the visceral aversion felt toward her by the majority of the electorate isn't enough, the Bubba-factor should take care of the rest. His petulant tantrums in January were captured forever on video, and McCain's people will make sure nobody forgets the prospect of Bill as the unelected third member of any administration Hillary is involved in.

Basic math: All of the Republicans, plus all of the independents, plus half of the Democrats is a larger number than half of the Democrats.

Come on, people. Hillary only has 7 years experience - as U.S. Senator. She wasn't in the oval office with Bill making the decisions. What decision did she ever make during his terms of office? Barack has just as much experience, or more than Hillary. We all know who was in the oval office.

Let's not discount the value of the Jack Nicholson endorsement here folks; after all, he has been on THAT wall!

Swamp, you are covering the primaries too much, and are giving the current and past (mis)deeds of the Cheney/Bush administration much appreciated cover. Congratulations. In order to have an election on which to report, you will first, and always, need a democracy or a republic.

"Most of all you will see a new tax checkoff box on your paycheck to pay for her GOVERNMENT RUN HEALTH CARE PLAN! Government run Health Care will destroy this nations private Health Care system put hundreds of thousands if not millions of Americans on the unemployment line as they see their jobs disappear and given to federal workers in the largest expansion of the federal government in history." -newyorklady

Is this some kind of joke? For most of america we either cant afford it or have to pay for it ourselves. Be lucky your work gives you healthcare. Think of it this way. under universal health you lose your work benefit of healthcare. now a wise person would instead of complain and moan and scream "socialism" would try to negotiate a higher wage to compensate. Due to the fact that universal health as been proven to be cheaper per capita then private health you may actually come out on top. And for those of us who pay for it on our own. We would go from giving our hard earned money to a profit driven company to the government who would take the surplus money from you (if you are healthy) and give it to the remaining americans who just flat out cannot afford it. its a win/win/win situation.

True our government sucks at spending and will find some way to pocket our money. We just need to stop electing politicians who shop at saks fifth avenue and start electing the politicians who shop at Ross.

I do not like Hillary, more so now then before. And hillary's claim of universal health is bull. Her policy requires you to pay for health through the private health insurance company's. Which will only serve to strengthen the very thing universal health is meant to destroy (in a good way that is).

Vote for whoever you like. the unfortunate truth is that McCain will win. Republicans are like "soul less marionettes dancing to the rhythm" of the GOP. What they say, they do. And liberals tend to think more for themselves. Which would explain the huge division. Not to mention the possibility and probability that the other half of Americans who do not even partake in elections are mostly liberal and just don't want to see another republicrat in office. i am included in this group. however if Obama makes the ballot i will vote. Not because i agree on all his policies but because for the first time in my voting age life i see the potential to step in the right direction.

remember this is the establishment media asking this question. obama won fairly and now the MAN is trying to make him a second class citizen. if bad ideas like this continue to be promoted - i am will to fight to destroy the demoratic party

From all this, it would appear the only question left is will we address the next president simply as "president" or will it be the formal "His Excellency the President John McCain".
Sad, but it appears an easy win is being replaced by another one of our Democratic circular firing squads.

So, the Democratic primary continues...time for some analysis of where the Dems go from here.

Both candidates have good arguments. Clinton's argument is that she's won almost all the big states, including the FL and MI primaries. Obama's argument is that he's won more states overall, more primaries, more caucuses and more delegates.

Last night was probably Clinton's last major opportunity to narrow the pledged delegate gap. The remaining states will probably break even. I'd expect Obama to win Wyoming, Oregon, Mississippi, North Carolina and Connecticut. Clinton probably wins Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, Puerto Rico and Pennsylvania (but PA won't be a big win for her, as Obama is very likely to carry both Philadelphia and Pittsburgh).

This leaves two central questions.

(1) What about Florida and Michigan? Personally, I don't think she should push too hard for these states. After all, she signed off on the agreement to strip the states of their delegations. Certainly, she has to be aware that there's no way the DNC can seat the delegations based on the primary votes that took place. The best they can do is hold a second set of primaries. Howard Dean's been pretty clear that he won't seat their delegations. It's not as if the voters should be mad at the DNC or either candidate. Rather, they need to take it out on their state party leadership, as the DNC told them before rescheduling their primaries what the penalty would be.

(2) What about the superdelegates? Right now, they're a massive question mark. The sentiment currently seems to be that they would prefer to resolve this before the convention in late August. However, they're also politicians, and they don't want to back a loser. In the end, I think the big uncommitted Democratic names (Richardson, Edwards, Biden, Dean, maybe even Al Gore) will need to get involved if they want to avoid a brokered convention.

The worst-case scenario for Democrats? Obama goes into a brokered convention with a clear lead in pledged delegates, and Clinton comes out with the nomination. In this Democratic nightmare, African-American voting bloc is very likely to take out any frustration from the convention on her by sitting out the general election - and I don't think ANY Democratic candidate can win the presidency without the African-American vote.

Could someone tell me how does Hillary have 35 years experience in elected office? Was she elected to office prior to becoming a senator?

Hillary is smart, dedicated, and an energetic hard worker. Obama has charisma and could learn from Hillary--and maybe make a great President down the road. I say, go for it.

Gerald Schwartz commented:

Well, Hillary will swamp Obama in Pennsylvania and finish him off with a 3 to 1 victory in Puerto Rico..the last primary. If he wont concede them, revotes in Florida and Michigan will seal the deal and keep him from even being the vice presidential nominee.

Gerald Schwartz
Former Deputy Chairman
Democratic Midwest Conference

================

You know, Gerald, that's just the kind of nasty vindictiveness that independent and disaffected voters have come to expect from political insiders in general.

The conditions have never been better for a viable third party movement in America.

O-HI-o!!! WHY OHIO!?!?! Once again, the state of Ohio lives up to it's reputation and screwing up another election...

As an independent, I will only vote for Obama or if I have to, McCain...

I could never, would never, ever, ever vote for Clinton.

I'm sorry that the majority of people from Ohio were fooled to believe that the Clintons are the answer...

I remember back in the late 90's when we couldn't wait for Bill to leave office! Does anyone else remember that?

Gee, let's see: Hillary and Obama are fighting over who is more pro-abortion-on-demand and pro-homosexual-agenda. They are both weak on foreign policy -- Hillary is feigning right because she knows Americans are hawkish on defense/foreign policy. Obama would give a date on the US pullout of Iraq. (Iran, take note.)

Both favor higher taxes ("on the rich," of course, but somehow those always hit the middle class). And both are big-spending Democrats, a redundancy, to be sure (although now the same can be said of many Republicans).

Obama just came out for the full repeal of DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act), which Hillary's straying hubby Bill signed (in the dark of night, of course, coward that he is). So Obama opposes "gay marriage" but also opposes a law that stops Massachusetts' court-ordered "gay marriagees" from being imposed on other states? Interesting...

Together these two make John McCain look positively Reagan-esque, and that's saying something.

Hillary should be head of the ticket and here is my big reason. Obama has not won any big industrial democratic state. He won Illinois and Missouri.

Clinton won California, New Yor, New Jersey, Ohio, Michigan etc. The democratic base in these states and Florida will be disappointed with the coronation of Barack Obama.

People who are not for McCain need to begin thinking their voting choices through very carefully. Is Hillary someone who can really win if put up against him.

Obama in being framed as inexperienced, which is not really true. He's actually been in government longer than Hillary. However, even if someone wants to believe that premise he will still be able and willing to surround himself with a strong cabinet and a great VP choice.

Hillary is, whether people want to admit it, an extremely polarizing figure. The right knows this and is launching their own brand of reverse psychology campaign-- just listen to Rush, if you can take it. Hillary will never win against McCain and Obama on that ticket won't make a difference.

He needs to be out front and pick a strong running mate for VP. Otherwise we will be in for 4 more years of insanity.

Of course Obama will be VP. Hillary will use every trick in the book (and believe me, she has many) to get the nomination. She is going to rip him apart, we all know how capable she is of that. Hillary made her pact with the devil 35 years ago, it's payback time Satan! Do or die! But Democrats are spineless, and all will be forgotten..."for the sake of the party." If you think it's fun watching now, wait a few months, it can only get better!!

C'mon, Bill R., you didn't even like the unicorns? They're going to be Pegasus unicorns!

And how about a chocolate city? Not like Ray-Ray Nagin's, I'm talking about an actual city made out of chocolate! You could drive to work in your chocolate car and munch on the dashboard on your way in.

Your white chocolate cube at work would make every day Easter!

The place would smell as awesome as the delicious pollution by the Blommer Chocolate Factory downtown. Can you imagine the new chocolate utopia we would create?

What's this have to do with the Hillarbama ticket? They both have the same chance of actually happening!

Hillary already implied the Obama is like Kennedy who did not get much accomplished before he was assassinated before his term was over.
Does Hillary plan on being the Johnson in the Kennedy-Johnson comparison?

I think it really dosent matter who is on the ballet because look at what Bush did for us in the last 8 years.... Nothing but cause this country to have a reputation of being a big bully towards other countries. Even the republican party has turned against Bush. I think everybody should stop segregating parties as democratic and republican and focus on the reality of the problems we have at home rather than spend our hard earned money to destroy then rebuild other countries, we have enough problems of our own. I would love to see Obahma & hillary on the same ticket in either order. We are over due for a drastic change in america. Right now beleive it or not we are the laughing stock of the nation because no one can agree on anything. We need to stop fighting each other and start working together or we will never get anything resolved in this country.

2 outta the last 15...and she's already getting ready to steal White House china again. She's got some nerve.

PLEASE VOTE BARACK

Great idea! He can wait until his turn comes after Hillary serves her term(s).

This is no dream ticket - not by any stretch of the imagination.

Norman Hsu = Hillary Clintons Tony Rezko

"In comparison, 2008 Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton began to disengage from Hsu at an earlier phase of the scandal when Hsu's long time fugitive status was first revealed.[49][6] After indications of additional misconduct by Hsu,[14] the Clinton campaign then decided to refund a total of $850,000 in bundled contributions[53][54][55][56] Clinton was the first major candidate to give up bundled contributions from associates of Norman Hsu.[57] However, it is also true that her campaign ignored earlier private warnings about Hsu[39] and that Clinton was the largest recipient of bundled donations from Hsu.[58]

In 2006, former President Clinton referred to Hsu as "our friend Norman".[26] After the scandal went public, Bill Clinton remarked in colloquial language, "You could have knocked me over with a straw"."

She has her own baggage. How soon we forget travelgate, whitewater, lewinsky gate etc. I understand why Obama's campaign refuses to go negative (maybe to attempt to keep the party intact after there is a nominee?) but there is PLENTY of CURRENT dirt out there on Clinton that no one knows about because of the lack of negativity on the Obama campaigns part. However I am sure that the McCain campaign will waste no time finding it. If Hill-Billy gets the nod I don't know what I am going to do as I do not like the option of Bush Clinton Bush Clinton. That is really a poor choice. I also think it is not in Senator Obama's interest to take the VP nom if he is not the dem candidate. The Clintons are sure to Al Gore him and he will surely never be President. I agree he will be a sure factor in Washington whether he is the commander in Chief or not but I say no to the Obama Clinton ticket no matter what form it takes. Makes the fall interesting or scary. Take your pick...

This is a joke. They are now incompatible. For this to happen Hillary would have to refute what she has been saying for weeks. Not only that but their tones would make them a bad fit. A new kind of politics and they royalty politics of the past... definitely oil and water

All you Democrats must be rich...because these two candidates are going to raise your taxes to the moon. How else are they going to do all the things they claim their going to do except by taxing anything and everything they can think of. All these programs that they are both espousing cost lots of money and it has to come from somewhere. And please don't fall for that BS that their only going to tax the rich.I'm retired and they both scare the pants off me.

i am will to fight to destroy the demoratic party

Posted by: damon | March 5, 2008 11:39 AM

Right On !! Go for it "BRO" !!

Obama would never agree to run as Hillary's VP because to do so would be to negate everything his campaign stood for. Assuming Hillary's gutter tactics result in a backroom deal that gets her the nomination, someone else will have to be her VP running mate. Obama would give lip service to supporting her - and then smile watching her crash in flames.

Face it people, half the country hates the woman - you don't get elected when the race starts with half the voters on the other side. Ohio and Texas illustrate Lincolns observation about fooling the people. Hillary won because all of the menopausal old 50-plus biddies rallied for the "woman's candidate" - one-issue voters throwing their hissy fit. She got the factory worker vote because these people are too lazy, stupid or indifferent to realize that those high-paying union jobs are history. The latinos backed her out of pure racism. And anyone who thinks she has compassion for the middle class and blue collar workers overlooks her dismissive comments to working people back in the 90's when she tried to implement her health care plan (remember her telling the claims adjuster she would just have to look for another job?). Nominate Hillary - and men in droves will vote for McCain - no rationale person wants that aging anti-military boomer liberal anywhere near that red phone. Simple as that.

REFER BACK TO THE COMPARISON OF WHAT HILLARY AND OBAMA HAVE DONE SINCE IN OFFICE, POSTED IN -THE WAMP- -THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE- and THEN,
TELL ME WHO SHOULD LEAD THIS TICKET!
OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA!!!

Two jerks for the price of one....just imagine.

He can live pretty nicely ff that.

oh please!obama is gonna be the nominee.and there's no room for a clinton

that would be a dream come true for Republicans. McCain is already looking like the front runner vs. Obama or Clinton. Most do not like Clinton and Obama is going to get slaughtered by the Republican machine

Ofcourse H.Clinton won Ohio and Tx. I'm not surprised. Ohio is a very conservative state no matter the party and the state fell for Bush's B.S. when it discovered that he commandeered it's flood control equiptment for Iraq by telling them it's good for the country and that they should be proud that it's in Iraq. And they fell for that! What dupes. So, just by H. Clinton being white assured her victory in that state. As for Tx well the Mx fell all over themselves in voting for her but if you could ask any of them about her platform they would think you are referring to her shoes. Tx Mx will always vote white and would never! vote for a black man even if their champion - Benito Juarez- was black and Indian, too boot. They seem embarrased by this and hope that their white "masters" will overlook this. Of course Juarez is a true champion but this fact falls short to them. What dupes.

If we are stuck with Hillary or McCain, then we have no choice - we are stuck with permanent war, and specifically declaring war on Iran for no reason whatsoever. This is the foreign policy of both these candidates.

As far as economic issues - we are stuck with two people deeply entrenched in the K-street lobbying industry. McCain is controlled by K street - they are his advisors - and his policy will revolve around subsidizing the war machine, while gutting the governments coiffures by continuing to reduce tax revenues. Hillary will subsidize the same folks as McCain. The economic policies will simply favor those in power.

Neither candidate has integrity. McCain got off on a technicality after being part of the Keating Five. Today he claims to be a maverick, yet he is owned by the corporations. Hillary claims to be for fair trade yet her entire "experience" is the exact opposite - she has lobbied for every free trade agreement, even if at the expense of human rights, the environment, and American jobs. Then she claims to be for universal healthcare, when her private insurance company friendly plan will undoubtedly leave behind at least 15% uninsured. This is not universal health care and she knows that. Two disingenuous candidates.

While we don't know as much about Obama, he is willing to call out the lies - such as challenging McCain by saying that there was no al-quaida in Iraq prior to the invasion. He will openly challenge the lies of the administration pushing for permanent war. Hillary goes right along, as does John "The Maverick" McCain.

The people in Ohio, Texas, Rhode Island spoke yesterday - they'll vote for the status quo, because their fear of terrorism and change trumps hopes for peace and economic prosperity. Fortunately that is not the view of the rest.

A Canadian thought...Now the Dream team??? Hillary is more intelligent and more experienced. Her fortitude is amazing. To think that she would be a VP to Obama is ludicrous! Why? So she can carry the ball once again, without the title? I hope the American folks come through and elect Hillary as president. Give the woman a chance. I do not think that you will look back. Not to mention...... you will set an example for the Canadian people.

I see Clinton's run for the presidency now more ego-based than serving the commonwealth of the people of the US. It's a power grab for her and you can see it in her eyes and the way she whines like she's entitled to the candidacy. Obama's taken the high road in most respect and has "acted" more stoic. Whether or not that presages "experience" to run the Office is another point. Clinton has exhibited qualities I DON'T want to see in a president.

How else are they going to do all the things they claim their going to do except by taxing anything and everything they can think of.

Posted by: Paul Jaeger | March 5, 2008 12:14 PM

Stopping the ludicrous and immoral war in Iraq will save trillions right away.

Many important domestic programs can be paid for using those savings.

As an Independent, I think Hillary is a disingenuous, lying, corrupt, incompetent, power-hungry and oh-so-wrong candidate. I'll refrain from saying what I think about the intelligence of anyone supporting her. I would vote for Obama, but if Hillary is anywhere on the ticket, I'm definitely voting for McCain (and I never voted for Bush).

Maybe she should win the nomination or at least lead in the delegate count before deciding on her VP. Looking ahead to the remaining primaries I don't see how she can gain in the delegate count unless she pulls some really dirty tricks over Michigan and Florida. Look at the states left, she wins Pennysylvania, he gets Miss, NC, Oregon and they stay dividided about the way they are. If she rewrites the rules over Mich and FL bye bye to a lot of Obama supporters should she get the nomination.

Barbara are you referring to our countrys' average of 87 murders a day ?

Posted by: Don B. | March 5, 2008 12:05 PM

Even if she did, wouldn't it make more sense to spend money finding out how to make us more "domestically tranquill", like the constitution says. Instead of starting wars against nations that did not, and had no capability, of harming us?

Give people the education and "hope" for a better future and the murder rate goes down. Repubs just don't understand that.

i'm not worried even if obama wins the nom he will get blasted by mccain so he should be glad to get any scraps from the clinton campaign because w/ all the scandal that's going on right now w/ his "clean name" he's going to be toast by april!

Clinton-Obama = 16 years of Democratic White House

"that's right, the women are smarter..."
GO HILARY!!!!
SHE is the best Democrat for the job.
GO HILARY!!!
p.s. - I hope Oprah is ashamed of herself, thinking that her fans would just blindly go with whatever she says.
GO HILARY.

Clinton-Obama = 16 years of Democratic White House

Can anyone applauding the idea of a Clinton-Obama ticket explain what groups that's going to draw?

Independents: Don't like Clinton, whether history or dynasty problem. Like McCain.
Republicans: Don't like Clinton. A lot. No matter how they feel about McCain.
Black Democrats: Even if Obama's arm is twisted until he agrees, the message is "We're not ready to unite behind the black man who won the election; you need to go to the back of the line behind the Clintons." Obama's a great speaker, but I don't see him selling that as a plus.

As for Obama-Clinton, the first two arguments hold just as much.

Gerald Schwartz and everyone else saying "now Hillary will catch up," you need to go to the Delegate Counter at Slate.com and show exactly how that works. She needed 58% before, she needs something higher now, since she failed to meet it. Taking Pennsylvania 60% to 40% WON'T BE ENOUGH. Every single contest, from Wyoming through North Carolina, Oregon, and Puerto Rico, needs that margin. Show me some math.

Speaking of math, I speculate the super delegates will gradually come out so that we head into Pennsylvania tied on that front.

I think everybody needs to LISTEN to this. Scholars of political revolutions have found that it is not long sufferance of adverse conditions alone which provoke revolutions. Rather, revolutions occur when things begin to shift for the better, and then something suddenly interrupts the tide of rising expectations.

If you think race relations in America were strained back in the 60's, those days will look like a love-fest if the Clintonites push Obama out of their way.

I don't think Obama and his supporters will ever forget all the racist comments made by the Hillary campaign. This ticket will never work as it got too personal and divisive. Hillary and Bill have shown their true color to the American people, and this country is much better off without them.

I don't know what you dems are so afraid of?? McCain won't win anything this year running against either obama or clinton. However, obama is losing credibility w/ all that is going on currently. Yes Clinton also has dirt but it's old dirt we all know what happened when Bill was in office this is old news and doesn't apply any longer. so i say i hope the stronger one wins but i'm not at all worried about McCain w/ all the press that Clinton and Obama have had this campaign, McCain has been just a speck on our newspapers compaired to these two!

Point A: Sen. Clinton says a 55%-43% result in Ohio's Democratic Primary means "the people of Ohio very clearly said that it should be me" - are you kidding? This is not a landslide, Senator...and you haven't significantly changed the delegate picture. Oddly reminiscent of Bush the Younger speaking of the "clear mandate" he allegedly received from the American people.

Point B: Be careful, Jean - "The people of Ohio aren't THAT important?" When the Cubs come to Cincinnati, not all of the Cub fans in the stands here are out-of-towners. Lots of expat Chicagoans here, too...and we read the Trib.

Hillary magnanimous?

Not according to any definitions I've read.

1. generous in forgiving an insult or injury; free from petty resentfulness or vindictiveness: to be magnanimous toward one's enemies.
2. high-minded; noble: a just and magnanimous ruler.
3. proceeding from or revealing generosity or nobility of mind, character, etc.: a magnanimous gesture of forgiveness.

I would like to clear something up that i cannot believe has even been brought up here. Clinton won michigan!!! SHE WAS THE ONLY ONE ON THE BALLOT!!!! how could she lose? To the clinton supporters who have stated on this board that Michigan and florida should in fact count, your ignorance is transparent.

They seem embarrased by this and hope that their white "masters" will overlook this.
Posted by: Lamartrotti | March 5, 2008 12:31 PM

How long have you been so racist ? There really is no place in political discourse for people like you. You should just quietly fade away with your stupid , bigoted , and convoluted theory.
Have a nice day bigot !

Hillary at the top, Obama learning the ropes. That is a ticket that can beat Mc Cain by making him look like an anachronism...the old white man in America---so 20th Century. Let's face it, folks, Obama is not that experienced, and Hillary has lived a life that has offered her a bird's eye view to the world. I would take her over him at the top of the ticket any day, and if he were smart, he'd seriously consider it if beating the Republicans is the name of the game. Mc Cain would decimate him in a general election. Obama seriously gave Bush a run for his money at the press conference the other day, with Barack looking like he was not ready for prime time.

Have to say it again...nothing really changed yesterday except that Hillary can stay in the race. The Delegate count remains the same and Obama is mathematically ahead. And if the democrats have to rely on Ohio for a victory against John McCain that badly we are really in trouble. This should be a democratic year no matter who wins the nomination. Don't be afraid of John McCain. He's old and represents nothing but more years of George Bush. That should be enough to defeat him.

Dream Ticket. Hillary gets her chance and Obama gets the experience to lead in eight years. It will assure a Democratic White House for sixteen years.

I believe Rezko and the Canadian memo on NAFTA were key issues that changed the race over the weekend. While Hillary was moaning about "slanted coverage," the media was lashing Obama with a vengeance.

It should be especially curious to rational Americans how higher ups in Canada called a private meeting, probably with both campaigns, but produced a timely leak of one "conversation" just days before the primary. Clearly, if they called Obama's economic advisor in for a meeting, they surely did the same with Clinton’s. This raises two issues, the accuracy of the memo writer's understanding and the absence of the Clinton memo. Is there any doubt that behind closed doors she would have been a lot kinder about a signature achievement of Bill's administration? This also suggests the kind of interference in US elections and breech of diplomatic trust that should produce common outrage among all Americans.

In regard to Rezko, whose trial coincidentally began on Monday, the same nationally syndicated, right wing columnist who outted a CIA agent, just happened to run a story Monday linking Obama to the trial and "Tony the Fixer," as he called him. The clear indication was that Obama would be knee deep in a Whitewater like scandal. To the contrary, the Chicago Tribune, the local Republican rag that has followed this story from day one, has written that Obama's name will make no more than a cameo appearance due to having received campaign contributions. This columnist, who gets major coverage nationwide in the press and on television, either did a very poor job of investigation or intentionally overstated what he found out. According to the Tribune stories Rezko was a major player in Chicago real estate and political circles for more than 20 years. He was a prominent fundraiser for Republicans, including George Bush and the RNC, not just Democrats like Obama. The only thing that is clearly known is that Obama relied on an old friend who happened to be a wealthy restaurant owner and real estate mogul who he had known since he finished college.

I find it amusing that Hillary's idea of press bias is "being asked the first question," when the press has been very kind regarding the indiscretions of the Clinton's and her "35 years of experience. If she manages to pull this one out, John McCain will not be so kind. But just as coached do in a basketball game, you complain loud enough to the officials, so the next questionable call goes your way.

So Obama has 25 states and Hillary has 16 and she's talking like a front-runner. I've heard of the "new math", but somebody needs to get her a calculator before she starts suggesting a ticket.

Combined ticket, why not? Politics is like the arab way of thinking - your enemies today might be your friends tomorrow. Well, electability and experience will be combined so synergism could emanate out from it. Why think of the negativity that it cannot work? Now, I prefer Hillary to head the ticket and in the future, Obama will have his time to become the next president. I always hear them say, it not about ourselves but for the people, I think the young Senator should give way to the Senior one and everyone will have a chance to lead this nation.

Ideally, it should be Al Gore who should be running for the President. If he was elected in Florida in 2000, how many souls have we saved in Iraq and the economy would not be in this terrible mess.

It's obvious the reason why the Clinton campaign is floating this idea is that they're trying to soothe Obama's supporters as they prepare their new strategy to steal the nomination with superdelegates, even though Obama will almost definitely have the lead amongst elected delegates.

I voted for Obama. After watching the scurrilous tactics of the Clinton campaign (including watching Clinton, Penn, Wolfson, et al distort the truth day after day), I do not think I could vote for Hillary Clinton.

IF Obama doesn't win, I'll vote McCain.

Jeff posted at9:35 aa.m. 3/5: "Here's the news, Dems, Hillary will NEVER agree to be Obama's VP. Never. She feels she's ready to be president and he's not. And she feels she's waited her turn and knows that since she's in her '50s it won't come again."

Don't be so sure. People come, people go. Sometimes pretty quickly. Sometimes people who have been politically inconvenient. Remember when Vince Foster committed suicide?

The pressures of the office might become too much for President BHO and he might take the "easy" way out in some lonely park setting. The nation would need a strong, honorable leader like Vice President HRC to step up and take the reins thereby saving the nation from chaos and destruction.

If Hillary can't be pres, we MUST make her vice-pres!

I find it interesting that Hillary waits for some minor victories to make this announcement. After Obama won 11 states in a row, she didn't say she'd welcome the idea of being his VP. Not that he would suggest it. But now that she has won in three states by semi-narrow margins, she's asking Obama to tag along.

"This country is not as open minded as you think Swamp. When it is all said and done, MCcain will win only because he is a white man. That is it. Beat around the Bushes all you want. This is America who's fooling who? People don't care if the Republicans send the remaining of our jobs to our former enemies: China, South Korea, Vietnam-we give them a lot of trade and buy goods they make...."

This and the rest of the post is true ... in rural America. I think the major population centers have enough voters this time to outnumber folks that think like this (at least if there isn't a nasty intraparty fight at the convention in Denver).

One thing the media didn't say much about concerning the Texas primary is that Clinton didn't carry but one major city - she got only San Antonio. Obama got Houston (the largest city), Dallas/Fort Worth, and Austin.

The question is, are there more voters open-minded and willing enough to go for Obama than there are voters who are happy with the status quo, voting for an older white man.

I think in this election, there are.

The only way for Hillary to get the nomination now is to steal it. If she does that she will absolutely destroy the party. - If Clinton steals the nomination she will receive less than 40% of the popular vote in the general. She's turned off a lot of people - for good !

-former (3 time) Clinton's voter.

Maybe Hillary has been unfairly tough on Obama, but she still has Dem values. She made some mistakes, but I would rather let her slide and vote for her if she is the nominee, then not vote or vote Rep. I want a Dem in the WH above all else.

There should not be a Clinton Obama ticket but an Obama Clinton is more appropriate. Hillary is not presidental and has done more double talk in this election than I would like to remember. She is a good politician but Obama is simply better and more beleivable. Wasn't Hillary involved in 'Whitewater' as well.

Nice dream ticket,
I had the same nightmare years ago when B. Hussein Obama won er, fell into his lame senate seat.
He is a do nothing empty suit, incompetent,
Exactly what Hillary needs.
You dems, the writing of this ticket was on the wall 3 years ago, now, sing cumbayah, and hug.
Actually if the nightmare of those two evils move in,
4 years of disaster and the Democrats won't will be ruined for decades maybe permantly, if we survive these these demons if they win.....
dream ticket my ...
nightmare ticket indeed
be very afraid, very afraid

Looks like who ever wins the Democratic nomination for President, half of the democrats will turn around and vote for McCain.

Karl Rove and Rush Limbaugh must be lovin this.

This is a mess, we won't come together it's too late. blacks for the most part won't vote in the fall if it's Clinton. And some of those other voters who voted for REAL CHANGE will either stay home or vote for MCCAIN.
So Hillary if you steal this nomination get ready to pay the price. There are three AMERICAS and my parents have known it all of the live. Sadly at 22 I'm also realizing it as well. now America wants experience but Bush has held office for two terms, Hillary's main experience is her association with her husband. THIS IS CRAZY!

Obama and Clinton are virtually the same on all the issues. What separates them is character!

Who would want to be the VP on "Billary's" ticket?
Anyone with clear eyes can see that Bill Clinton would be the de-facto vice-president as the elder statesman, former president and spouse/confident of supposed president Hillary. How is she more qualified than Obama? Don't both have virtually the same senatorial experience -only one term each. I suppose by her sleeping in the white house with the president, this somehow makes her qualified..? By this definition Monica Lewinsky should be chief of state!
VOTE REPUBLICAN!

Hillary's announcement is political strategy, nothing more. By reaching out with the olive branch first, Obama will look like a: 1) copycat if he makes a reciprocal gesture, or 2) jerk if he doesn't. Well played by Team Clinton.

In reality, I don't think either of them would be inclined to take a back seat to the other by taking the VP slot. And I don't think Clinton-Obama (or Obama-Clinton) is the best ticket to take on McCain.

If Hillary gets the nom, I would love-love-love to see her name retired Gen. Wesley Clark as her running mate. With his experience as SACEUR, McCain's so-called military advantage would go up in smoke. He was hampered by inexperience and a slow start (plus total shunning by the media) when he ran for President in 2004, but he was a quick study, and he was able to give back as good as he got. I think Clinton-Clark would be a very strong ticket.

As for Obama, I still haven't decided who would best complement his strengths and shore up his weaknesses. I would look for somebody with foreign policy and/or economic experience. Somebody who's content to be a behind-the-scenes wonk, much like Al Gore was. Joe Biden, perhaps?

"Clinton/Obama = Dream Ticket for 8 yrs...

Then

Obama/??? for another 8 yrs.
(By then Obama will have had his "on the job" training and will be ready to lead the Nation!!!!

I could live with that."

So, you really, truly can live with 16 possible years of having the life taxed out of you?

So, you really, truly could live in an America that will be weak and get bullied all over the earth?

So, you really, truly could live with a total exorcism of personal rights and freedoms as guarunteed by the Bill of Rights?

Hmmmmm... I don't know about you, but that's not something I could live with...

I think that the argument that Clinton will automatically win the same "red" states in the general as she won in the primaries is a specious one. (And yes, that also applies to the states Obama has won.) I cannot see Florida, for example, voting for either Clinton or Obama. The same may be said of Ohio and Nebraska. By the same token, just because Clinton has won some big "blue" states like California and New York, that does not mean that if Obama ends up with the nomination that the blue states who voted for Clinton are going to go over to the Republicans in a fit of pique.

What amount of experience can equip a person to be fully prepared for the complex office of the American presidency? How long and deep was the experience of the great presidents of America like, Washington, Jefferson, FDR, Churchill, or Kennedy, before becoming president? For most Americans Abraham Lincoln is their greatest and most enlightened president. What level of experience did he have before becoming president? Was it not the “Bay of Pigs” fiasco that made JFK to grow in wisdom and judgment? Why do professional politicians enjoy treating voters like infantile or imbecile? We must reject outright politicians who use fear to get votes. Hitler did it so well. The result? Stalin used it so expertly. The result? And Bush? I also fear politicians who think that their proximity to the corridor of power entitle them to rule. Bush’s father was in the White, so he believed Americans owe it to him. Ms Clinton was a spouse in the white House, and she thinks the Democrats owe it to her. After using "kitchen sink" against Obama, she now wants Obama to help her beat McCain. I hope Obama flatly rejects that temptation. It is not worth it. It stinks. JFK also rejected the “vice” position.

Isn't there something you're all ignoring? There's a fat man in Tennessee who has brilliantly accepted awards for his powerpoint presentation for the past two years while these two cannibalized each other.

When neither one has enough delegates to win at the convention he'll swoop in and convince the superdelegates to write his name in "for the good of the party" and then Clinton, who owes him a lot more than that, will have to pledge her delegates to him. He'll seal the deal by promising Obama the VP slot and become a modern day Adlai Stevenson.

On the electoral stuff, you need to look at WHICH states Hillary won. That's why they're important. There's simply no way Obama will win the Carolinas and Georgia in the general election. But there's a very good chance he could lose California by turning off the Hillary voters there.

Without the big, northern states like New York and California any democrat strategy to win the White House stands on brittle glass.

Hillary-Obama ticket is the ticket. Sure they have both questioned each others ability to be president, and they both know that is simply part of the contest. Once they decide to work together, all will be forgotten in time. Also let us not forget, being the first female or African American president or vice-president is not exactly a bad outcome. They will have both broken though another layer of the glass cieling. Hopefully "they can and will."

Give people the education and "hope" for a better future and the murder rate goes down.
Posted by: David J | March 5, 2008 12:54 PM

Let me get this straight David , all these mass murders on college campus and in work sites are down by people who were never educated,a few of these folks were grad. students. It's folks like you in my old party is the reason i got out. All you liberals think same, just throw money at it.

". . . What dupes.

Mr. Lamartrotti:
ISN'T THIS JUST A LITTLE
RACIST... I thought we were beyond that!!!

Bush - Clinton - Bush - Clinton. I am sick of the dynasties of families who care nothing for the American People but only for power and the individual wealth that the position brings. We might as well put the British flag back up and allow one of their kids to take over when they are finished.

We need a change, and a change for the better. Obama is the way forward and will have my vote. If he is not there, it is either no vote at all or (dare I say it) a Republican vote (DOH! that hurt).

and specifically declaring war on Iran for no reason whatsoever. This is the foreign policy of both these candidates.
Posted by: Jacky | March 5, 2008 12:35 PM

Jacky, In case you missed it last week, the useless U.N. slapped more sanctions on Iran for the third time. They seem to like to play hot potato with plutonium , and they got more than a few countries concerned about it. Wake up and smell the coffee , get out of LA-LA land and face the reality that confronts our country.

I wonder if Clinton or her handlers have any clue about the fact that she epitomizes everything that Gen-Xers hate in Boomers?

Regarding America's very own version of Evita & Juan Peron: As I see it, Hillary is floating the Barack for V-P balloon to suggest that if she wins, nobody loses. It's a tactic to neutralize support for Barack. Actually, Bill Clinton will be Hill's V-P--unless, of course, it's Hill herself.

Hey Jeff, please pass that joint my way, would you?

"Come on, people. Hillary only has 7 years experience - as U.S. Senator. She wasn't in the oval office with Bill making the decisions. What decision did she ever make during his terms of office? Barack has just as much experience, or more than Hillary. We all know who was in the oval office."

I'm sure like Laura BUSH Hillary decided on the Theme for the Christmas decorations when she was first Lady. That got to account for something.

I really would love this to happen.

No Obama on the ticket, either one the top or bottom, and my vote goes to McCain.

p.s. Jim Oberweis sucks!!!

If Barack Obama does not get the Democratic nomination, perhaps he can resume his position as Senator from Illinois and begin doing something for the people of Illinois who elected him to serve and represent them. Seems all he's done since he was elected Senator here is run for President.

Give me a break!! Just because Obama is an inspirational speaker does not mean he should be president..It is amazing that this new stream of young voters buy into this "change" rhetoric.

"

I think the Democratic party is missing out on something very important to a lot of men in this country. Many men, myself included, feel that running this country is too much of a job for any woman to ever handle. I would not sleep comfortably at night knowing that we have a woman president, point blank... I consistently vote Democrat however if it comes down to Clinton winning the ticket I will vote for a Republican in a heart beat.

Wow. So please enlighten me on how exactly a man can do the job better than a woman. I'm DYING to know.

The painful truth is that the Obama Team dropped the ball on this one. Somehow, Team Hillary managed to take full advantage of this error on election day during a big election. The good news is that the net gain for Team Hillary is slight and easily offset in the coming run, providing that Team Obama gets out there in front of this while there is momentum left to propel them.

Hillary is still behind in pledged delegates and popular votes. And, the Super Delegates know now that supporting her will be career suicide once the damage to the DNC and Democratic party results from such a measure. Obama needs to realize that he can't play nice and be the gentleman this time. He's got to come out swinging and beat her like a rented mule every round until the end of this fight. She's not going to just roll up and go away when there are so many Rove-esque tricks left to play.

Face it, she's not as pure as the driven snow unless Satan is doing the driving. For all her casting of aspersion on Obama's legitimacy and fitness to hold the Office, she has proven through the years to be so much more corrupt than he is. So, let's shove a cork in her pretense of victimization, seeing as how she's enjoyed the luxury of preventing her own vetting for the sake of character preservation.

Start with her campaign improprieties. She's had a few , significant trouble accounting from them all, and a bigger problem keeping up with all the lies she's been telling to account for the money.

Then, since she's laying claim to Bill's success in a co-Presidency, along with reminders that she as actively advocated NAFTA as the current Bush Administration, bring up that she and Bill actively fueled the Iran - Contra coffers from an airfield in Mena, Arkansas.

Remind her that when it came time to place all their assets in blind trust, Vince Foster was having a considerable amount of trouble reconciling the Clintons' claim of poverty to their real assets.

Also note that Hillary's fingerprints were found on key evidence connected to Vince Foster's death.

You might want to inform the selfrighteous one that Obama's connection to Tony Rezko pales in comparison to her Whitewater scandal. We're talking bank scams, drug cartels, Norriega, Capcom, BCCI, media intimidation, and the funding of death squad training in cahoots with Poppy41, whom Bill42 conveniently exonerated of any wrongdoing just by virtue of never investigating Iran-Contra.

I think the only reason Hillary absolutely has to win is to keep America from prosecuting Bush and Cheney, who, even after they have left office, can summarily be impeached, arrested, PUBLICLY PERP-WALKED, brought to trial, found guilty, and sentenced to life in prison for the more than 900 lies they told us to attack Iraq with her blessing.

Give me a break!! Just because Obama is an inspirational speaker does not mean he should be President..It is amazing that this new stream of young voters buy into this "Change" rhetoric. Just look at the mess Illinois is in because of the "Lone Ranger" Governor Blago. Don't forget the governor and Obama has strong ties to the now indicted Tony Rezco

Do you honestly think Obama can take move this country forward? He should be in the motivational speaker circuit giving his "making you feel good" speeches as a life coach. Not running for the the highest office in the world! Let's be honest, you have to select the best of the two evils, Hillary or Obama. Experience or rhetoric? I'll take experience...HILLARY CLINTON. She has had the experience. All this political propaganda diluting her experience as merely standing by her husband side is questionable and false. Who are the people making these statements? Who else? Her opponents! Hmmmm?

As an independent, I would never vote for a Clinton even if Obama was on the ticket.

Mike, I admit it's far-fetched, but so was Adlai Stevenson on the ballot. An open convention makes all kind of weird scenarios possible. This is the democrats worst nightmare.

Let me guess, you're single. If not, I hope your wife recognizes your post.

And wow, what a great job the men have done screwing, er, running the country (especially the present President).

WOW, this would be GREAT.

I hope if Obama wins the democratic nomination, he is as open minded as she - and asks her to be his VP.

It is obvious the democrats are almost evenly split between the 2 of them; what a way to unify the party - by WORKING TOGETHER to achieve the same goals. The world would be such a great place if everyone would consider doing the same.

Talk about hitting the nail on the head. Hillary is a deeply flawed candidate and team Obama as you call it needs to point all these things out.

For the good of the American people. I personally will not vote for Hillary if she wins. She has by way of conduct showed herself to be unfit to lead. UNFIT TO LEAD!!!

Ludicruis to think about Obama Clinton ticket. It doesnt deserve any reheoric. They have both lost focus on the most important factor..THe people. Are they aware millions of voters with a hatred for Hillary and millions not liking Obama. Can you just see the voters voting for the GOP. A shoo in..

b daley you and your ilk are like a broken record.

Oh and clueless as well!

I would say the "mass" shootings don't even add up to 1% of all murders. I'm speaking more about gang and inner city violence. The "day to day", stuff.

You are never going to stop all the "nuts". But, yes, better educational opportunities would bring the murder rate down. As you would have less kids involved in gangs and drugs.

Are you seriously saying that a better Chicago school system would "not" result in less crime? You'd have to be completely ignorant to not see that.

And spending money on education is much better than wasting 100's of billions on an unnecessary war.

Obama/Clinton ticket - not so fast. Does BO want to wear a bullet proof vest for whatever time he is able to serve? The clinton tag team have such strong personalities & inflated egos that they will never accept the 2nd position. BO might as well have a big target on his back because I doubt that he would even serva a year before the clinton thugs would Michelle would be a widow.

I have been a Democrat my whole voting life. If SHE gets the nod, I absolutely will NOT vote for her. Why, in our right mind, would we even consider having two families run this country for over 30 years? If that doesn't speak to our disfunctionality, I don't know what does. Bottom line? She is part of the old machine that has proven over time that what they're doing isn't working. Now she's stooping to the dirty politics that we all should be sick of! I want new in the White House. Barack has given me a sense of hope again.

If Senator Obama had overwhelmingly won the nomination, I would have hoped for an Obama/Edwards or Obama/Richardson ticket. I feel that both of these men continue to have their brightest days of public service ahead of them. However, if the inclusion of Senator Clinton can bolster the message that a united democratic ticket will clear out the white house of the current priorities, then go to it. The time for change is now.

I like the Obamma and Clinton ticket thats Bill Clinton
