Bush: 'A Democrat victory... would turn back clock': The Swamp

The Swamp

by Mark Silva

Got an email from President George W. Bush just now.

He doesn't actually do e-mail.

It's from the party, and they're looking for money.

$27.8 million in the first quarter of 2008 alone.

"During the last seven years, you have stood shoulder to shoulder with me to meet the challenges that faced our country,'' the president says in his party-circulated email.

"The outcome of these elections will set our nation's course for a generation,'' Bush says. "The mission of every Republican must be to keep the White House and retake the U.S. House and Senate. We must elect a new Republican president in order to defend America and extend our nation's prosperity.

"A Democrat victory in November would turn back the clock on all that we have accomplished to strengthen our national security, grow our economy and improve our schools.

"Vice President Cheney, Laura and I are doing everything we can to ensure the RNC has the resources to provide our candidates with the tools they need to build, strong effective campaigns.... Wiil you stand with us again by making a special 2008 campaign contribution to the Republican National Committee today? Your special online gift of $1,000, $500, $100, $50 or $25 to the RNC will go a long way towards electing a Republican president, retaking control of Congress and regaining a majority of statehouses....

"Having twice been the nominee, I can tell you how vital this assistance was to my own campaigns in 2000 and 2004,'' he adds. "I would not have won election or re-election without the RNC's strong and effective efforts.''

does he mean extending the nation's prosperity in terms of the falling housing market, the credit crunch, the declining job market, the high gas prices and a poorly treated returning military? by all means, sign me up.

Turn back the clock, Mr. Bush? If only we could. I'm sure there are about 80,000 military families who wish they could turn back the clock and never have you in office ignoring the intel leading to 9-11, waging an illegal war and ruining our country.

Blah Blah Blah...more fear tactics from Prez 19%.

The Republic Parties fund raising and voter turnout numbers are in the tank and their getting worse and there's a very good reason for that:

A vote for John W McCain this fall is a vote for more of the same criminal nonsense that Bush/Cheney/ Rove gave us the last seven years.

Turn back the clock? Welcome to the Gilded Age, welcome to the Great Depression II, welcome 1984.

"BUSH SPEAKS"

I HEAR THERE IS TALK ON THE "INTERNETS"
TALK OF "CUT AND RUN"
TALK OF "VICTORY"
TALK OF "SUCCESS"
TALK OF "TOO MUCH CONGRESSIONAL CHURN"
TALK OF "PENTAGON REPORTS"
TALK OF "GENERAL FALLON"
TALK OF "WALTER REID"

BUT IN THE MIDST OF ALL THAT TALK ON THE "INTERNETS" CAN YA'LL BREAK AWAY FROM YOUR GAS PRICE WHINING AND SEND MY GOP "CHEERLEADERS" A DIME.

WITH ALL THAT TALK ON THE "INTERNETS" THERE HAS TO BE A BROTHER OUT THERE THAT CAN "SPARE A DIME"

"THE STAKES ARE HIGH"

oh and hey while MR. BUSH is at it why don't he just take away this stimilus and replace it with vouchers for a glock 9MM and one bullet so we can all end our pain elect mccain and thats surely what i'll do

"Democratic victory will turn back the clock and erase our accomplishments"

I love it! Turn it back to 1999 when the economy was strong, people were making money, no one in America believed in torture (publicly). Habeas Corpus for everyone. Balanced budget.

Ya I wanna turn back the clock!

I loved it when Bush didn't know gas was heading toward $4/gal. This guy is more delusional then Britney Spears and Sam Lufti put together!

Gee I surprised he doesn't call for putting someone experienced in there like Dick (attack the world) Cheney!

Bush/CheneyCorp brought the US backward to pre-1776.  We now need a GOOD Dem, or a GOOD non-Repug to bring us forward again to  GOOD years of peace, prosperity, where elected officials follow the rule of law instead of making up law as they go along, where The Bill of Rights and Constitution are respected, where there are three accepted branches of government, and where the Geneva Conventions are upheld (no "unlawful combatants' allowed--all are either prisoners of war, or else civilians.) A Dem hopefully will bring us to a more enlightened time of caring, domestic policies--where the ruling class doesn't get to decide how much income tax they want to pay on dividend income, and, away from the Cheney/Bush era where Sparta rules. I am more than ready to get back to, at least the 20th century, if not the 21st with a Dem or non-Repug administration now.

Maybe he should have been more concerned about the direction the “clock” would be moving when he and his neo-con buddies took the Republican Party down the wrong road toward reckless military adventurism and ruinous, fiscal irresponsibility.

Can I see a show of hands, please?

How many Americans out there WISH they could turn back the clock to 2000 and have a do-over? I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Will,

Only a total wimp would kill himself in protest over the outcome of a presidential election. I have total contempt for the guy who committed suicide at ground zero because Bush won in 2004. It is for us, the living, to see to it that things go better in the future, by whatever means necessary.

Besides, why waste hundreds of dollars to buy a Glock just to shoot yourself?

ignoring the intel leading to 9-11, waging an illegal war
Posted by: DD | March 13, 2008 2:56 PM

Poor DD suffering from a bad case of revisionist history, here's the facts DD, Mr. Clinton passed on 6 chances for Bin- laden, numerous attacks on his watch, once again did nothing, chose instead to go cigar shopping.
I also seem to recall authorization by over 70 % of congress to give Mr. Bush permission, now they're all running from their votes. You really should post with one thing in mind...not everybody is as dumb as you.

Don B. Face the facts - 9/11 happened almost one year into the Bush Administration's first term. And, it was the Bush administration that screwed up the Iraq war. Only the most political president in our lifetime could lose a war to a third world country like Iraq. Or maybe, you can blame that on Carter.

Don B. Bin laden is a figure head. Taking him out most likely would not have stopped the 9/11 plot.

where elected officials follow the rule of law instead of making up law as they go along

Oh really Vivian ? You mean like Gov. Blago., and the late great Mr. Spitzer. and let's not forget about Jethros' cousin Bubba Clinton and THAT WOMAN..MISS LEWINSKY

Don B:

Why do you further undermine your already-weak argument with idiotic right wing spew(but I repeat myself) about "cigar shopping." Presidents are people. They eat, sleep, copulate, poop and goof off. That they do these things does not mean they cannot perform their presidential duties. That Clinton had cigar sex with Monica instead of Hillary (do you blame him?), is simply irrelevant as a time management issue.

I personally think the more relevant inquiry is what GWB did to clean up Clinton's supposed anti-terrorism mess during the nine months before 9/11. We know as an objective fact that he launched no new initiatives and in fact recommended that anti-terror funding be reduced. These objective facts tend to undermine the wingnut argument that 9/11 was Clinton's fault.

Moreover, we also know as a fact that Bush was sufficiently sanguine about the situation that he took the entire month of August 2001 for vacation. That's not exactly "workin' hard to protect the 'merican people," as he would stammer.

Vivian,

Don't listen to Donny Bin Laden, he's a brainwashed GOPer stooge.

He still thinks Republican Prez 19% is one of the greatest American Presidents ever!

in fact recommended that anti-terror funding be reduced.

blinkin: you're getting real close to John Everdumb at being wrong all the time, Richard Clarke told 9/11 commission that they were getting more money for counter intel..remember his quote to a fellow intel.officer "this guys spending money to get the job done " Hence Mr. Thompsons question to Mr. Clarke "which is true sir what you testified today, or what you wrote in your book".
Perhaps you think cigar sex is alright for a President, I think his time could be better spent....lets' see like maybe doing something about about the six or so terrorist attacks against us. It's fools like you in my former party is the reason I'm no longer part of my former party.

p.s. i think that cigar thing is a Jewish thing of some sort, kind of like kosher pickles maybe ?

Who wouldn't want to turn back the clock on this presidency? Bush is easily our worst president ever.

turn back the clock on all that we have accomplished to strengthen our national security, grow our economy and improve our schools.

Oh really pd ? Sounds like we should replace NIS cheif with you ...you sound soooo much smarter than everybody else.

"A Democrat victory in November would turn back the clock on all that we have accomplished to strengthen our national security, grow our economy and improve our schools."

That's what I'm talkin bout! Yeah, except for BushTalk at the end of statement, that's the prescription exactly.

Looks like Crazy John D'mime and some others are gonna have to move to some other country. Maybe Paraguay or Guatemala. I don't know, all the real right wing setups like Chili and Argentina have gone lefty.

Donny Bin Laden,

Where are you hiding your brother Osama?

Your dumbarse Republican President said he want's Osama "dead or alive", whatever happened to that you moron?

"BLINKIN AN EYE AND BLINKIN SPEAKS"

MR. PRESIDENT WHO WROTE YOUR 9/11 SPEECH ON THE MORNING OF SEPTEMBER 11, 2001?

IT HAPPENED ALL IN A BLINKIN OF AN EYE AND I JUST DON'T REMEMBER.

I REALLY DON'T SPEND THAT MUCH TIME WORRY ABOUT OSAMA BIN LADEN.

NO WHO WROTE YOUR SPEECH? OR BETTER YET WHAT TIME WAS IT WRITTEN.

I REALLY DON'T SPEND THAT MUCH TIME WORRY ABOUT OSAMA BIN LADEN. I WOULD HAVE TO ASK "CONDI" AND GET BACK, GET BACK WITH YOU. SO DON'T BLINK AN EYE! BLINKIN!

Don B.

By any objective measure, the Clinton Administration worked demonstrably harder on terrorism than the Bush Administration. It turns out that the now famous August 6 PDB addressing Bin Laden's determination to strike U.S. was one of MANY direct warnings substantively IGNORED in the months leading up to 9/11:

http://www.smh.com.au/news/world/they-knew-but-did-nothing/2008/03/07/1204780065676.html?page=fullpage#contentSwap1

"Bin Ladin Public Profile May Presage Attack" (May 3)

"Terrorist Groups Said Co-operating on US Hostage Plot" (May 23)

"Bin Ladin's Networks' Plans Advancing" (May 26)

"Bin Ladin Attacks May Be Imminent"(June 23)

"Bin Ladin and Associates Making Near-Term Threats" (June 25)

"Bin Ladin Planning High-Profile Attacks" (June 30),

"Planning for Bin Ladin Attacks Continues, Despite Delays" (July 2)

There is no evidence whatsoever that anyone in the Bush Administration did anything at all to even hinder the attacks of September 11. In light of the fact that off-course airliners had been tailed by fighter jets on average once every 2-3 days in 2001, the complete and total breakdown of the civilian defense corp over several hours was simply breathtaking.

Couple that with the refusal to engage in any sort of reaction to the U.S. Cole bombing despite direct and specific suggestions from the Clinton Administration on a plan to roll back the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Since blame for the bombing was assessed officially 3 weeks before Bush's inauguration and after the controversial election, one can ONLY IMAGINE what hardcore, truth-rejecting Wingnuts like Don B. would have said HAD Mr. Clinton pulled a Somalia and chosen an irrevocable course of action for the incoming president, as Bush's father did to President Clinton.

In light of the fact that George Bush had the full available force of the U.S. military as well as nearly worldwide support in the wake of the attacks, what exactly IS Bush's excuse for not catching Osama Bin Laden, Don B?

That's what's amazing about people like you, Don. You simply don't CARE that President Bush has FAILED COMPLETELY in his stated goal of bringing Public Enemy #1 to justice. Nearly every "lefty" in this country wanted Bin Laden caught or killed by American forces. But then Bin Laden somehow morphed into the completely unrelated and largely impotent Saddam Hussein and now we're over in Iraq with 10 times as many troops as we've got in Afghanistan, opium production is exploding amidst Taliban chaos, and Iraq is bleeding the already deeply indebted Treasury to the tune of $275 million per day. Half a trillion dollars to date. http://www.nationalpriorities.org/costofwar_home

Of course, we're also spending nearly half a trillion dollars EVERY YEAR on the DEBT PAYMENTS ALONE, crushing debt that has been a trademark of this administration's fiscal policy. The policy of continuous tax cuts throughout a big, expensive war of choice would INEVITABLY!! lead eventually to a falling dollar, which would again inevitably lead to a steep rise in oil prices as oil producers need more increasingly worthless dollars to make their usual profits in their own appreciating currencies.

In other words, when you combine George Walker Bush's fascist aggression, reckless disregard for civil liberties, and his bravado in sending other's children off to war while refusing to have the courage that even Ronald Reagan had in attempting to get the budget under control and raising the PRESENT DAY REVENUE necessary to run the government, George W Bush will undoubtedly be considered amongst the pantheon of Worst American Presidents. I don't really understand how "conservatives" who would presumably implore a poor person not to take on credit card debt to pay for extravagance today nonetheless think its A OK for the government to do the same thing.

Only the government can't go bankrupt, so the Bush Administration has no qualms whatsoever about tossing that burden on a future president and a future generation of taxpayers.

For shame.

Brian Hussein S,

Yes, the Clinton folks did have terror on their radar, unlike GWB and the rest of TeamBush.

Remember, John Ashcroft put in a request to cut counter terror funding by $50 million the day before 9/11.

And let's not forget all the warnings Condi ignored. What a bunch of incompetents.

Man, there was some fancy back peddling after that one!

"Having twice been the nominee, I can tell you how vital this assistance was to my own campaigns in 2000 and 2004,'' he adds. "I would not have won election or re-election without the RNC's strong and effective efforts.''

I guess now we know who to blame.

Hussein : By demonstrably harder would that be the bombing of the aspirin factory, or tucking tail and beating it out of Somalia ?

And let's not forget all the warnings Condi ignored.
Posted by: TheReamer | March 13, 2008 9:29 PM

Oh you must be referring to the paper work left by Bubbas' administration stating that "Al Queda wants to attack us" yea sure Remus, how could she have missed that one ?

I'm convinced the president did not ignore the 9/11 warnings out of ignorance. He wanted it to happen.

He had plans to invade Iraq before he won the presidency. As revenge for the "alleged" plot by Sadaam to kill his daddy.

How better to sucker the nation into in illegal war, than the fear mongering he could use after an attack.

Hussein : By demonstrably harder would that be the bombing of the aspirin factory, or tucking tail and beating it out of Somalia ?

Posted by: Don B. | March 14, 2008 12:13 AM

Hey Donny, Guess who the head tail tucker was? Senator John McCain.

http://www.americablog.com/2007/04/mccain-goes-to-senate-floor-and-demands.html

"The American people did not support the goals of nation-building, peacemaking, law and order and certainly not warlord funding. For us to get into nation-building, law and order, etc, I think is a tragic and terrible mistake. But the argument that somehow the United States would suffer a loss to our prestige and our viability, as far as the No. 1 superpower in the world, I think, is baloney. The fact is, what can hurt our prestige, Mr. President, I'll tell you what can hurt our viability, as the world's superpower, and that is, if we inmesh ourselves in a drawn-out situation, which entails the loss of American lives, more debaucles like the one we saw with the failed mission to capture Aidid's lieutenants, using American forces, and that then will be what hurts our prestige. Look at the tragedy in Beirut, Mr. President, 240 young Marines lost their lives, but we got out. Now is the time for us to get out of Somalia, as rapidly and as promptly and as safely as possible."

Heck yeah we want to turn back the clock.

Fair taxation, habeas corpus restoration, protection of the environment, ending the occupation, fixing the budget deficit, etc...

It's going to be a monumental task cleaning up after Chimpy and his gang. Yeah, we're going to scrape 8 years of misrule off our collective shoes.

"Oh you must be referring to the paper work left by Bubbas' administration stating that "Al Queda wants to attack us" yea sure Remus, how could she have missed that one ?

Posted by: Don B. | March 14, 2008 12:20 AM"

You are finally correct. How could she have missed it....
