President Bush, confronting sour news about the economy today, promised that the tax relief coming in May will provide a "booster shot.''
Congress already has enacted the relief act, with tax rebates promised for 130 million and tax incentives for businesses to invest in new equipment.
"It’s provisions are just staring to kick in,'' said Bush, stepping out to the South Lawn of the White House today, on an overcast day in Washington on which the Labor Department reported a loss of 63,000 jobs in February.
“Investment in new equipment remains sold thus far in the first quarter, and as more businesses take advtange of these incentives…. businesses will create new jobs in the months ahead,'' the president said.
As for the $150 billion in tax rebates promised in May, Bush said: "When the money reaches the American people, we expect they will use it to increase consumer spending and that will spur job creation as well.’
"My message to the American people is this: I know this is a difficult time for the economy, but we recognized the problem early and provided the economy with a booster shot.’’

The Democrats have the answer: Raise taxes, just as they do in Illinois, Cook County and Chicago. Why let the dumb citizens keep their own money. They'll just spend it on frivilous things like food. Poor Bush. He thnks people should keep more of what the earn. What does he know?

Dirk,
You're right, the Rethuglicans won't raise your taxes...because under their "leadership" you won't have a job.

Well, he certainly knows how to spend more money than he takes in, and raise the deficit.

"BUSH MEETS WITH MERCK AND FERC"
When it gets to $115.00 a barrell we can call it quits.
When Medicare gets to about 115 billion in profits off all the elderly we can call it quits.
When America wakes up and smells "COFFEE" at $15.00 per 8 ounces, we can call COLOMBIA and let them know we can call it quits. We got CAFTA alright.
When America wakes up and figures out why "BIG DAIRY" screwed Ma and Pa Dairy and now sells you a gallon of milk at $4.89 when you were paying $1.99 we can call it quits and move all dairy jobs to Mexico and justify our non taxable imports.
When America gets that "stimulus" check, I sure hope they don't invest it in QWEST Communications, we wouldn't be able to listen anymore.
So America don't wake up, I haven't gotten my immunity and when I do, the we can call it quits.
Done Deal!

Booster shot? -- I thought Republicans didn't believe in "socialized medicine".

Here's the thing; 'Spenders' have already spent it in anticipation of receipt of said bribe. Also, they put it on their Visa cards, thinking they will pay it down.
They won't; They will spend it on more landfill junk when it comes in.
Shocking epiphany; Lots of 'folks' still haven't paid off the first bribe.
Only in America. This is the behavior of heroin junkies.
Advice;
1. Get out of debt
2. Stay out of debt

Roger,
Your last posting rules. Now you're making it all so clear. We catch your drift.
We are screwed.

Well if John McCains comments on the state of the US economy today are any indication, don't look to him for any help.
Clueless.

The driveby media and the Democrat presidential candidates Barack Obama and Senator Hillary Clinton have talked our nation into a recession it will be brief as far as downturns our concerned.
Listening to the drivebys and the Democrats and all the environmental wackos who want to keep America from greatness is depressing to say the least.
The Sierra Club, Earth First, Earth Liberation Front are all predators in the nation's daily arena of ideas. ELF even burned down 2 mansions in Washington State to get even. Wow what cowards!
Since the fall of the Soviet Union, the socialists have turned to the 18th and 19th centuries to plan America's furure and have shown up in the Green Movement. It is just new age psychobabble of the worst kind.
Everybody wants clean air and water but, America must be strong and robust for our children and grandchildren.
We need oil, coal and gas along with conservation and alternative fuels. We must drill for oil in America including Alaska and the Gulf. We must build refineries so we don't have to depend on Islamic Jihadists for our gas and oil.
We don't have time for extinct snail darters etc but, must become independent in oil and gas to meet our future goals in the greatest nation on earth. We must stand up to America haters hiding in the green craze. We must check our politicians who have no courage to stand against radical environmentalism. I won't back a GOP candidate who sells out to the Sierra Club or any other pseudo green movement.

And the best way to do that is to pass on huge debt from a failed occupation. That way they can work three Wal-Mart jobs to pay it off, even as they try to find clean water and air to stay alive.
Yep. The Black Helicopter crowd has it all figured out.

Jerry White,
Simply put, you are a liar and a coward.

I find it humorous that the same president caused 2 economic downturns.
The Telecom Act of 1996 that predicated the 2000 tech implosion.
1998 telling the Fed to relax lending rules so "everyone" could afford a house. Allowing lending practices that are illegal in most countries because they are bad (zero % down, reverse mortgages, etc.) which predicated the 2007 mortgage melt down.
Please, bring back those economic policies. They worked so well in the long run (causing 2 recessions).
