Clinton camp tags Obama for 'the audacity of nope': The Swamp

The Swamp

by Mark Silva

The Clinton campaign will not let go of the discounted Democratic primary votes in Michigan, where Sen. Hillary Clinton “won’’ as the only major candidate on the ballot, and in Florida, which Clinton “won’’ in an uncontested election.

The argument seems somewhat moot, now that the Michigan legislature has given up on the idea of a “re-do’’ of the Jan. 15 primary that the Democratic National Committee refuses to recognize because it violated party rules in going so early, and with Florida’s Republican governor uninterested in financing a replay of the Sunshine State’s Jan. 29 primary vote, which has drawn the same penalty by the DNC.

Yet camp Clinton wants to place the blame for inaction in the lap of camp Obama, which has maintained that it played by the rules in Michigan and Florida.

“Sen. Obama is turning the Audacity of Hope into the audacity of nope,’’ said Phil Singer, a spokesman for the Clinton campaign, with a reference to Obama's campaign book in a conference call with reporters this morning.

The real hope at stake here is Clinton’s hope of corralling both the popular vote and pledged delegates at stake in the shelved primaries of Florida and Michigan – which could help fill in the gap that she faces in Obama’s bid for the party’s presidential nomination. Without Florida and Michigan, the numbers fall short for Clinton.

So the Clinton campaign is attempting to turn the Obama campaign’s reluctance to accept first the mail-in primary “re-do’’ that Florida proposed and the primary election revote that Michigan’s Democrats proposed into a question of action versus words.

“It’s interesting that the Obama campaign often gets its back up when we say that their campaign is just words,’’ Singer said. “But I think few things illustrate this point better than what Sen. Obama is doing with regard to Florida and Michigan.’’

Obama is campaigning with ads in Pennsylvania that speak of his record as a young civil rights worker, Singer says, but “now he only wants to count some of the votes.’’

The Clinton campaign also contends that giving up on Florida and Michigan will have disastrous ramifications in November, when Republicans “exploit’’ the Democratic Party’s “disenfranchisement’’ of the votes there. (The Republican National Committee denied the two states half their delegates for voting early; the DNC all the delegates.)

“We could have avoided the entire Bush presidency if we had counted votes in Florida,’’ Singer said. “The fact that Sen. Obama is endangering and jeopardizing Democratic prospects’’ in two states vital to winning in November is “unacceptable.’’

“The general election is going to be very, very close,’’ said Harold Ickes, a senior adviser to the Clinton campaign, calling Republican Sen. John McCain a “formidable’’ opponent.

“Florida, I think we have a real shot at winning this year, if Hillary is leading the ticket… Slapping these people in the face is not the way to engender support,’’ Ickes added. “We still have time to do a re-do election.''

Neither candidate will be able to win the nomination "solely with pledged delegates,'' Ickes acknowledges. "We think that both candidates are going to be within a hair of each other by the time the last states vote... At the end of this process, neither candidate will have the nomination, and each candidate is going to have to rely on the remaining automatic delegates to make their decision.''

Those "automatice'' superdelegates will be looking at popular votes, margins and pledged delegates. Florida and Michigan re-dos could improve all of these for Clinton's campaign.

"The Obama campaign is trying to convince everyone that this election is over,'' Ickes said. "I hope they don't get their hands on the federal budget, because they can't count.''

What "Senator Obama is doing with regard to Florida and Michigan" is following the rules that were originally agreed upon. If he wasn't doing that, they would say that the Audacity of Hope was the Audacity of Joke, or some other clever parody. Does it make sense to anyone that Obama did not put his name on the Michigan ballot or campaign there? Why do you suppose he did that?

The Florida Democrats shut down Florida all by themselves.

Michigan voters that voted in the Republican primary after Hillary told them the Michigan Democrat primary wouldn't count were being excluded by the Clinton hypocrittes in the last proposal that got killed.

Seems to me that Clinton got what's coming to her - retirement.

What's a jballot? Is that Frank James' superobamadelegate vote?

Hilary Clinton wants to change the rules to soothe her loses.

Hilary Clinton agreed to the rules when she was the front-runner, now she wants to change the rules to her advantage.

Hilary Clinton uses people and cheat in the game!!!

Say No to Bush/Clinton/Bush/Clinton!!

Obama is the embodiment of the 21st century, a weave of the future.

One heart, one vote for Barack Obama.

Howard Dean needs to step up here. He needs to advocate that Hillary step down, and he needs to stick up for his decisions regarding the Michigan and Florida primaries. His poor leadership is really showing.

All those Democrat who dismiss Michigan and Florida on the premise that "they did it to themselves" are deluding themselves. Obama may win the battle, but with constituents of two major States disgruntled at not having a role in selecting the nominee, it's entirely possible that he'll lose the war -- assuming he's the nominee.

He hypocritically speaks of inclusion and unity, but he and his operatives didn't hesitate to thwart the Michigan redo, leaving Michigan Democrats out in the cold when it suited his immediate purpose.

In her interview with the Philly Inquirer here, Clinton argues for ignoring the votes in other states.
During an interview with the Philadelphia Daily News editorial board, Hillary Clinton again pitched the idea that she can close the gap in the pledged delegate count — by pointing out that pledged delegates can always switch their votes.

"And also remember that pledged delegates in most states are not pledged," said Clinton. "You know, there is no requirement that anybody vote for anybody. They’re just like super-delegates."

At the top of TPM's page on this, Ickes is back explaining why this is a good idea. Find a way to count MI and FL. In every other state, try to get the pledged delegates to ignore the results of the votes in their states, since those votes clearly produced the wrong results. Just how long does the "insult every voter" strategy get to fly under the radar?

People who ignore the rules should get do-overs.
People who follow the rules should be disenfranchised.

The Clinton campaign is becoming more the joke everyday. Her advisors should really consider taking her out of the race and saving face for a future run. She needs to fire some of them!

Obama took his name off the ballot in Michigan...why? We are all about everyone having a say in the Democratic party unless you may loose! This is crazy...2 1/2 million people have no say in selecting our candidate! If we don't, democrats will pay and pay big!! Lou Dobbs thinks we should go independent....me thinks that's a good idea!!

I just can't believe they are pointing the finger at Obama. Why have rules if you can just get by them? Florida and Michigan held their primary too early, which is against the rules. Wake up out of the Clinton fog!

HILARY, YOU IDIOT, YOU WILL JUST NOT ACCEPT THAT THE MAJORITY OF AMERICANS DO NOT WANT YOU AS THEIR PRESIDENT...YOU JUST COME WITH TO MUCH BAGGAGE. YOU CLINTONS ARE KNOWN TO LIE, CHEAT AND DO ANYTHING YOU CAN TO BE IN POWER. WELL NOT THIS TIME BABE. THE AMERICAN PUBLIC HAS FINALLY SEEN THROUGH YOU CLINTON BLOWHARDS.
NOW I HEAR THAT WANT THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE TO DETERMINE THE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE, ARE YOU NUTS OR MAYBE YOU WANT TWO DEMOCRATIC NOMINEES ON THE BALLOT...GOOD IDEA, FOR SURE JOHN McCAIN WILL WIN THE ELECTION.
I SUGGEST THAT YOU KEEPING TELLING PEOPLE HOW MUCH FOREIGN EXPERIENCE YOU HAVE LIKE DUCKING SNIPER FIRE IN BOSONIA AND BRINGING PEAACE TO IRELAND. DO YOU REAALY THINK THAT ANYBODY IS BUYING THAT?
IT'S TIME TO PACK YOUR BAGS IF YOU WANT YOUR PARTY TO WIN THE WHITE HOUSE. PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEASE, GO AWAY.

The Clinton campaign must think that Americans love a whiner and a cheat. Why else would they complain about the rules that they agreed to at the start? They might have some credibility if they'd raised this argument before the race started, but they didn't start complaining until they found themselves behind in the delegate count without enough states left to catch up.

It seems to me that the media needs to stop attending these daily conference calls, they don't seem to yield any real news except for exactly how far the Clinton campaign is trying distort reality on that particular day.

If they are going to continue having these calls, the Obama campaign should keep a presence to do some instant fact-checking, like they did a few weeks ago.

HILLARY NEEDS TO TURN HER

"AUDACITY OF COPE"

from little t - tom the independent

I am so embarrased for Hillary and her campaign. I have such a hard time stomaching anything with her name attached to it anymore. I pray this will over soon and the country can move forward... without her involved.

Obama is "audacity of DOPE not HOPE". Obama is like a CAMELONA, changing colors whenever it suits him. His deceitfulness has been exposed. He wants to change Washington but coddles corruptness in Illinois. He runs on CHANGE but EMBRACES divisive and vile characters like pastor WRIGHT. His judgement is flawed when he embraces EXTREMISTS that BOMBED the Capitol Hill and the Pentagon. He is the MOST LIBERAL in the Senate. He voted for the early release of SEX OFFENDERS and voted for legislation to have porn sites close to CHURCHES and SCHOOLS.

I find it funny that no mention is given to the fact the Obama campaign has floated the idea of seating the delegates with a 50/50 split down the middle. Half of Michigan and Florida's delegates go to Obama, half go to Clinton. Clinton is resisting this deal because "it's unfair to me - er, I mean unfair to the voters." Except... their delegates would then be seated, which is what she claims she wants.

Michigan and Florida need to be punished for what they did in ignoring the spirit and rule of law. By negating their votes, they are punished. By seating their delegates with a 50/50 split, they are allowed to participate. What is wrong with that?

Rob H.

I think it's ridiculous that the DNC is even in this position to begin with. Why should it even be allowed that certain candidates be taken off of a state's ballot? Why would Hillary leave her name on the ballot when she knew it wouldn't count? Why would people vote anyway when they knew their vote would not count? Why would Florida and Michigan continue to move their primaries forward when they knew the consequences? And how could the Clinton campaign even begin to believe that counting the votes as they stand is a fair thing to do?

blah blah blah blah. HRC shut up already.

I just like to point out to the morons who think Hillary losing will lead to retirement, that even if she did lose, which to you displeasure she might not, she would still be a senator from NY. You people are STUUUPID!

But then, no one ever accused fanatical Hillary-haters of having a lot of brain power.

Meanwhile, try telling the people for those states that its fair to not have their votes count, when they didn't have a say in when their primaries took place. PLUS, considering how close this race is (and it IS relatively close, despite what robotic Obama groupies might want to say), it kind of puts new importance on actually having these votes count, to see just how this would turn out if everyone DID get to vote. But of course, Obama doesn't want these states to count/revote because he would likely lose.....and where would that leave his "movement?"

PS Susan, you sound ridiculous :)

Florida Democrats did not "shut down Florida all by themselves". As a Florida Democrat, I can tell you that I had NO say in whether or not my vote counted. Regardless of who I voted for, Florida and Michigan are part of the 50 states -- a big part -- and we deserve to be heard!

CHANGE YOU CAN BEREAVE IN.

The audacity indeed.

All those Democrat who dismiss Michigan and Florida on the premise that "they did it to themselves" are deluding themselves.
Posted by: Biggdawg | March 25, 2008 11:11 AM

How would you look at it? Why would it be ok for 2 states to decide they are more important than the other 48? Would it then be ok for the other 48 to move their next primary up for 2012 to say...2010? I can see outrage, but it should be directed to who is responsible. That would be state legislators. I didn't see much UNITY coming from these 2 states...did you?

There was a proposal on the table about seating the delegates and splitting them in a fair way. The fact that HRC keeps harping on a re-do says that if they can't have it their way they will just keep whining. This is not a party who will unite. If you're not on board with the Clintons then you're accused of being a "traitor". I do agree Howard Deen must take a tougher stance here to stop the madness. What is he afraid of?

Dear Susan,
If Florida and Michigan won't count, then we will say No to Bush/Clinton/Bush/Clinton! by VOTING FOR McCAIN!!!

Hillary is AMAZING - LYING MONSTER!!!!!

Not very catchy... however David Brook's tag of Hillary is... The Audacity of Hopelessness (in her futile further quest for the nomination)

If Clinton manages to get the primary votes cast in Michigan, and gets the nomination due to these votes through he super-delegates. I will definitely consider a vote against her in November. Obama played by the party rules as did Richardson, and now he would be penalized for doing the right thing. I live and voted in Michigan, and accept that fact that the votes will not be counted...why should there be a re-do. We knew before we voted that the votes would not be recognized.

The only way Hillary can beat Obama now is by being the only candidate on the ballot--that's why she's so petty and divisive about FL and MI--she'll never see those odds again!

What?? I'd call this the "Audacity of Grope". The Clinton campaign is at such a loss they are groping for anything they can get their hands on. Remember, Florida and Michigan disenfranchised themselves. They made the choice despite the consequences and they have nobody to blame but themselves. They made their bed, let them lie in it. Trying to blame the Obama campaign is flat-out ludicrous and demonstrates just how desperate the Clinton campaign has become. Now, an even more important question: Why wasn't HRC concerned about these so-called disenfranchised voters before she was losing? This would actually be funny if it weren't so pathetic.

The Clintons, Hillary and Bill really thank that the world revolves around them and there staffers. They clearly think they are entiteled to be President and run the country and no one should challeng what they say, do or imply.Their entitalment attitude, and comments that they push out to the media daily is silly, short sighted, and not respectfull to all the American peopole. Hillary, Bill and there professional Clinton staffers will go down in History as the selfish fossils they are. More importantley no one in the future will want to study there remains for fear of cathing there diseases

Fl amd MI are a non-issue in November. They are only an issue now because Hillary and her Audacity of Desparation campaign need their popular vote to make an 'argument' that the superdelegates should override the elected delegates...

Reality is that after the primaries and more superdelegates endorse, the likely nominee will be certain, the DNC will sit down and find a formula to seat the delegates so as to not hurt the party in those states. It does not go to the credentials committee at the convention.

Problem is that that will not help Hillary because she will have lost the delegates and popular vote by the time the DNC must decide what to do about Fl and MI. We are just all waiting for the cake to bake, while the media tries to keep their ratings up.

Florida and Michigan can freely hold new primaries inline with the rules of the DNC so there's no conflict. Florida Republicans, not Democrats, prevented an amendment from Democrats to move the date to comply with the DNC rules but they shot it down guaranteeing that Florida could not comply. That should have been considered by the DNC but Howard Dean chose not to.

Michigan still has a chance to get a vote in in June, if not then I agree that they shouldn't be seated and the supers should go ahead and vote their conscience and elect Hillary as our nominee.

What about the audacity of claiming she and Chelsea dodged sniper fire in Bosnia?

How about the audacity of lying under oath concerning her involvement in the TravelGate firings?

Or the audacity of a losing candidate staying in the race to scuttle the Democrats' chances in the hope that she can run against McCain in 2012?

It all kind of makes you wish that the imaginary snipers had had better imaginary aim. Unfortunately, Hillary and Chelsea must have imaginarily run faster than the imaginary bullets.

Oops, that was inappropriate. I must have "misspoke."

'the audacity of nope'is right! This lifetime Democrat will vote for McCain if Obama is nominated.

The people in Michigan and Florida had nothing to do with the decision to move their primaries forward. There was no vote or even an attempt to solicit their opinion. The people on this blog (Obama supporters) who would deny them the right to have their votes counted are exactly what's wrong with the democratic party and why I would never vote for Obama, period.

"Michigan and Florida need to be punished for what they did in ignoring the spirit and rule of law. By negating their votes, they are punished. By seating their delegates with a 50/50 split, they are allowed to participate. What is wrong with that?"

Nothing. It is completely reasonable, which is why Clinton is opposed to it. She can't win. She knows it. We know it. Even the stupid MSM knows it. Quit now. We're sick of her!

Wasn't just two months ago that Hillary was saying 'Michigan doesn't count for anything'?

So I guess now that she's losing, Michigan suddenly matters.

I also think it's funny that 'Uncommitted' received 40% of the Michigan vote. Uncommitted was even the majority in several counties!

The DNC and HOWARD DEANS FLAWED "RULES" HAVE GIVEN DEMOCRATS PREMATURE ELECULATION

THAT SIMPLE.

REVOTES IN ALL STATES ARE REQUIRED ! LET'S JUST HAVE DELEGATES VOTE FROM THE CONVENTION FLOOR.

NOW THAT WOULD BE SPECTACULAR, EXCITING AND MAKE THINGS RIGHT !

The problems with this entire situation are the result of Howard Dean and the DNC.

By front end loading this nomination process no on in states that have voted had information about Barack Obama that they needed to make an informed decision.

Obama loved it - stayed up on his rock star float and REFUSED to answer questions.

In the last election like this only half the delegates were awarded by March.

This problem IS HOWARD DEAN and his RULES COMMITTEE.

Howard Dean when he was in Vermont over ruled group thought constantly. Acted always like Daddy Knows Best.

The problems we are experiencing in finding out at this point who Mr. Obama is and what his baggage is - is precisely because OBAMA wasn't going to tell us, he ran, drove and walked away from those questions and REFUSED to answer them when asked. With these DNC rules and they way this process has been set up we have here a case of "premature eleculation".

This process was extremely flawed from the beginning - taken advantage of by Mr. "I'm not a DC politician" - and confounded by the Florida and Michigan "rules" that would disenfranchise TWO states rather than just one like George Bush. So , the Democrats can no longer point to Mr. Bush stealing of an election.

Florida and Michigan need to counted as they stand.

Mr. Obama stole early states due to this DNC idiocy.

He knows it. We all know it.

Here is a REALLY great article all should read. It is the entire picture of what brought us

here to this miserable place.

Agreeing not to campaign in a state and disenfranchising that state are two entirely different things. Regardless of how the Obama campaign tries to spin it, they are backing the DNC politicians in suppressing the votes of millions of American voters.

Obama is the embodiment of the 21st century

I want to see Obama's transcripts from college.

Why won't he produce those so we can see if he is a phony?

He's been handed everything in his unproductive life.

WE THE PEOPLE DESERVE TO SEE HIS GRADES IN COLLEGE.

HE HAS NO RESUME.

She does not care about the democratoic party if she did , she would have resigned from candidacy. She is a very selfish woman. It is all about bickering. That is enough.

Aside from the "Audacity of Hatred" book and sentiments from the dyanmic duo Barack Obama and Rev Anti-White Wright, all 3 leading Democratic contenders aired commercials throughout Florida, despite the known fact that the Republican-run state gave the DNC the middle finger and moved the primary up. Democrat voters were simply collateral damage in this duke out between the DNC & GOP. The plain fact here is that Floridians overwhelmingly voted for Hillary Clinton as the demographic there (Latinos, Jewish and working whites) do not favor Obama, and according to Reverend Anti-White Wright & Obaman's Church their tenants deem non-blacks a NON-PRIORITY. Obama should consider penning a new book: "THE TEMERITY TO DISCRIMINATE."

Well, certainly beats HRC's opus, "The Capacity to Mope."

“The fact that Sen. Obama is endangering and jeopardizing Democratic prospects’’ in two states vital to winning in November is “unacceptable."

Statements like this just serve to underscore the fact that HRC and her team will say and do anything to win. Apparently they feel that somehow the rules do not apply to them? Where was all of this concern for Florida and Michigan voters back in the beginning of the primary race when something could have actually been done to avoid the problem.

I agree that what has happened in Michigan and Florida is a travesty but lets lay blame at the proper feet. This is not the DNC's fault, it's not Howard Dean's fault, and it certainly isn't Barack Obama's fault. It's the fault of the state legislatures and of their congressional representitves on capital hill.

Who on the hill stood up when the state bill's passed and objected, despite the DNC's repeated warnings to both state's about this issue? Did the governers of these states say anything or object? No. No one did.

If the tables were turned and Obama was the one behind and making these arguments, HRC would be raising the same objections about fairness. You cannot turn back the clock and be fair to everyone, it's that simple.

How was Florida "uncontested"? I see no evidence of such a thing.

Obama should have titled his book "The Audacity of Hoax".

Snow White Obama and the Seven DC puppeteers !
This is Obama's crowd of 'newbies"???

KENNEDY

Do you really think he could get anything - one thing - done without them?? Hahaahahaa

I read these postings and wonder where some people are coming from? Both Obama and Clinton lie! Clinton wants us to forget her past mistakes while Obama really thinks we (the American People) are dumb enough to believe he attended church for 20 years and never heard that nut preaching his hate, if that is true he definatly would not be presidential material.

Florida Democrats did not "shut down Florida all by themselves". As a Florida Democrat, I can tell you that I had NO say in whether or not my vote counted. Regardless of who I voted for, Florida and Michigan are part of the 50 states -- a big part -- and we deserve to be heard!

What did your state legislators say when you called to complain? You are part of the 50 states...so why would you choose to be more important than the other 48 who ALSO agreed with the rules?

Rules were made and agreed upon 2 YEARS AGO by the entire Democratic Party. Now they want to change them - for CRYING HILLARY! The President will not simply be able to Cry to China and North Korea and Iran. She is a joke! THI IS FRUSTRATING!!! WHO IS VOTING FOR HER!!!! Whoever it is, Please Stop it. You are doing nothing, but ruining her chances of EVER running again. OBAMA IS A ONCE IN A LIFETIME CANDIDATE. Not just because his skin color. The overall good of the country should override your want for a female president.

I think we should give them both a samurai sword and let the best whatever win. Between lies, scandals and trails of dirty laundry leading to their doors, I wish they would just go away. Where are the true leaders of our nation that have integrity, honesty and grit?

Hillary was the only person on the ballot in Michigan, and STILL ONLY GOT 50% OF THE VOTE!! What does that say? That they should seat the delegates, and give half the delegates to Obama, and half to Clinton-- Net Gain of 0 delegates, but they'll still be seated!

The overall strategy for Obama right now is to let Clinton make a fool of herself. Obama and his party response as needed and nothing more.

Regarding Michigan and Florida: if the leaders broke rules, they must live with and suffer the consequences. Do you want everyone to get away with breaking the rules? Of course not! This is not just about voting rights, this is also about acting responsibly. Take it up with the leaders who broke the rules.

This Hillary supporter will now vote for Obama, I have really had enough of the Clinton's and their dishonesty. As for McCain, he is too old and suffers from amnesia. Some democrats say here that they will vote for McCain if Obama is nominated. Obama is right, RACIST still exists among the people...I read the"audacity of hope", and i think it is a great book....

As a Florida Democrat I can tell you that, before the fact, it was only the national media that referred to the Florida primary as a "REPUBLICAN ONLY" primary. Florida TV and newspapers informed us about polling places, and the counties sent us the sample ballots and instructions for voting and early voting, AS USUAL.

So when you refer to the dummies in Florida, please remember that the Florida voters are not included in that group. We Florida Democrats just did as we were instructed and voted for either Clinton or Obama.

"He hypocritically speaks of inclusion and unity, but he and his operatives didn't hesitate to thwart the Michigan redo, leaving Michigan Democrats out in the cold when it suited his immediate purpose."

Wrong. The proposed plan for the Michigan revote was clearly stacked against Obama & for Clinton. The plan HRC wanted stated that people who voted in the Republican primary would not be able to participate in the the re-vote. Obama gets A LOT of support from Independents and Republicans, so those people would have been disenfranchised, not including the Dems who decided to vote in the Republican primary because their candidate (at that time, Obama, Biden, Edwards, Richardson) was not on the ballot.

Let's be honest - HRC didn't care about Michigan or Florida until she started losing.

Why didn't Clinton complain when the DNC decided that Michigan and Florida's delegates won't be seated. She hardly opened her mouth. We hardly heard a word from her before the elections on those states took place. She has no respect for the rules of the game.

Now that she is losing in the pledged delegate count, she has also started saying that we should not count the pledged delegates bu should count the electoral college. Now if that fails she would say that none of these matter. It should be based on the number of pearls each candidate wears. What a moronic campaign the Clintons are running.

i think Phil Singer, Carvile and other Clinton advisors are smoking Dopes...

Clinton needs to jump off this train and stop putting this on Obama when he consistently said whatever the DNC does he will go with. Clinton knows dern well these votes would not count, the delegates would not be seated and she went along with all this in the beginning. Now that her candidacy is failing she;s reaching for life rafters while gurgling but she just needs to come on up out of the water and dry off and go somewhere.

Truthfully, there are no simple and convenient enemies that easily fit anyone's agenda. The mess with Florida and Michigan comes out of a complex interaction of multiple players with differing influence growing and shrinking at different times.

Nevermind that the truth is inconveniently complex. The Clinton campaign is trying to hang this on Obama. Though Obama has some say NOW, why is he responsible for fixing the problem? Clinton was in a great position to prevent it, back when those states were debating what to do. Was Hillary down there, lobbying fervently against it? Nope. We could blame her as easily as Obama, if placing blame were a goal.

However, the effect of her efforts will be to convince some people that Obama is to blame for disenfranchisement. When Obama faces McCain in November, some number of people will remember only the nastiness that she is creating, and either not vote, or vote against Obama.

Hillary is now working for McCain. Why?

Did anyone actually read the grounds the Obama camp gave for not agreeing to a do-over? There was a complete list released to the media, but barely commented on: http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/03/19/783219.aspx

The reality is that it would simply create a different group of disenfranchised voters and (what Hillary presumably really wants) excellent grounds for litigation by these voters, dragging the Primary contest on even longer.

They were right to refuse and the Michigan and Florida voters should be taking their anger out on their local officials who allowed the election to go forward early and created this mess in the first place.

Posted by: Todd | March 25, 2008 12:04 PM

I read your link and I see nowhere in the article any reason to justify your state moving its primary up against your signed agreement with the party. What did your state legislator say when you called to complain?

No.. Hillary is not just trying to soothe her "losses" . That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Obama is playing a game with the American voters...His slogan should be "DO AS I SAY NOT AS I DO"!!! He's basically thumbing his nose at the entire country via MI and FL. He is divisive and you obama supporters need to put the Kool-aid pitchers down and snap out of it. His motives are not what you think...HIS CHURCH SUPPORTS HAMAS!!!! YES HE DOES HAVE THE SAME IDEALS AS THOSE OF HIS TERRORIST LOVING PASTORS!!!! SNAP OUT OF IT!!!

It was Michigan Gov. and Clinton supporter Jennifer Granholm and the leaders of the Michigan legislature who disenfranchised Michigan voters when they arrogantly scheduled the Michigan primary outside the DNC's approved calendar, ignoring repeated warnings that delegates from such contests would not be counted. They went ahead anyway, assuming they could bully and blackmail the DNC into accepting their delegates. They lost that gamble. Now they try to shift the blame to Obama. What a bunch of whining crybabies and hypocites. Shame on you, Gov. Granholm.

Hillary must have "misspoken" (the same way she did about sniper fire in Bosnia) because she HAD AGREED in writing with the DNC that the Michigan/Florida votes wouldn't count. Now she's saying that the votes SHOULD count because she "won" those uncontested contests. Get your story straight, Hillary!

Hillbilly needs reality check. trying to win while bringing down and splitting the Democratic Party, what a blue dress stain on his /her legacy indeed.
maybe it is time Obama started a CHANGE THIRD PARTY. Thank you Hillbilly for given us no other option. We have worked to hard to had this election stolen from us with dirty tactics and innuendos, Hillbilly: you have become the Carl Rove of the Democratic party.

"The fact that Sen. Obama is endangering and jeopardizing Democratic prospects is unacceptable," Singer said.

What an amazing comment. Hypocrisy is too kind a word to levy at the Clinton campaign. Some sort of new vernacular must be created to appropriately describe their insincere temerity.

This is too good to be true!
Pinch me I must be dreaming.
Some of you Dumbacrats are really starting to turn on Hill-Billy?
She is a lying monster!
Obama is a liberal disaster!
McCain in 08! Oh happy day!

Sounds like the Clinton campaign is relying on "The Audacity of Dope" and inhaling this time...; )

We all must read the rules that the DNC set forth. Other states held their contests before the set guidelines in the DNC rules and the DNC gave them all waivers. Why not Michigan and Florida? They also went against their own rules by stripping all of the delegates. Their rules say that half the delegates should be seated. Obamam broke the rules by running his ads in Florida. The DNC rules say that that is campaigning. In Michigan Obama chose to take his name off the ballot. There were no rules saying that he had to. The Florida primary was also put into law by a Repbulican Governor and Rebpublican controlled state legislature. It was challenged and denied. So don't start talking about the rules unless you actually read them

i am a resident of Michigan. here are the facts re: the early primary - local news media informed voters that their votes would count and delegates would be seated. encouraging everyone to go to polls and vote. it was up to the candidates to put their names on the ballot. Hillary clinton and obama did this. obama removed his name. he stated it was because of pressure from the dnc to follow rules, but that seems odd since he kept his name on the florida ballot. truth be told, he understood poll numbers, showed him losing to clinton in Michigan and so, it was politically strategic move for him to take name off and later - cry, "playing by the rules", as justification for no revote or, just seating the delegates, proportionately, in accordance with vote that took place already.in addition, obama made claims a few weeks ago that he would be "fine" with a revote in michigan. but, that was before his campaign started to suffer. now, more true to form, he is recanting on his agreement for a revote. which, of course, disenfranchises millions of voters in Michigan. HIS EXCUSE NOW IS; BASED ON LEGISLATIVE RULES IN MI - "A REVOTE COULD NOT INCLUDE REPUBLICANS, WHO HAVE ALREADY VOTED". how lame can he get? he thinks republicans, who have already voted should not be disenfranchised from - what?
bologna!
the truth is, Michigan and Florida will not forget obama's opposition to allowing their voices to be heard. we are not the ones, who legislated the early primary - the republican majority, composing our state's congress, did that. the same thing in florida. don't you think that the Republicans had an inkling of how this would go for democrats? and, the DNC is backing them up. do not doubt that this is an insult that will fester in the voters minds, come november. particularly, if bo steals (and, the dnc helps him)the nomination by means of voter exclusion or distorting the actual delegate vote, in order to gain his own personal advantage. all you naysayers - better think twice - it could happen to you! by the way, where is the news media on this topic, why do they give bo a free pass on disenfranchising voters? why are they not talking about civil liberties? during a time when we have seen so many of our freedom's threatened - 'tapped' they and the supposed leader(s) of democratic party are silent. makes you think and begin to rethink alliances, doesn't it? one more nail in the coffin of our democratic way of life/ and, obama supporters think he is a unifier. someone, who professes goals of "unity and hope" - sooner or later, has to also DEMONSTRATE the courage of their convictions. bo's unwillingness to do so (each time an opportunity presents itself) just furthers my sense that his intentions are strictly personal ambition, no matter the cost.

I know that most Obama supporters don't investigate beyond the media hype so I will intervene. The Fla. primary was changed at the hands of a REPUBLICAN lesgislature in Fla. How did this happen? Well, why do you think we have our current president?

I really thought this election would be different. I honestly believed the positive campaigning espoused by Obama and Edwards early in the primaries would result in a bearable, representative political process. Oh naivete, you'd think I knew better.
Back to praying under my breath that our country's citizens are just as sick of this **** as I am.
Don't believe the hype.

To Jusa (12:12 pm) : Yes, Obama's name DID appear on the Florida ballot. It was too late for him to remove his name, but he followed the rules (rules that both he and Hillary had agreed to follow) by NOT campaigning in Florida. Hillary, on the other hand, attended two well-publicized events in Florida the night before the election . . . and then had the gall to declare "victory" after the results were in.

I NO LONGER SUPPORT HILLARY. A year ago I did, but the more I hear from her campaign, the more she disgusts me.

Her campaign is ungracious, petty and bullying. She seems incapable of raising herself up, so her only solution is to drag her opponent down. I picture two people having a race up ladders, and while Barack is putting all of his efforts into climbing up and encouraging people to follow him up, Hillary is putting all of her efforts into beating him over the head and encouraging people to knock him off.

Her only motivation for wanting to be president seems to be that she thinks she deserves it. She has no concern for the damage she is doing to the party, so I am led to believe she would have no concern about damage she does to the country. She seems to be driven exclusively by self-interest, and the last seven years have shown us what damage an ungracious, petty bully can do from the oval office.

What's with the Obamabots constantly tarring HRC with this "she thinks she's entitled" nonsense?

I actually looked up the word in the dictionary.

Entitled: to furnish with proper grounds for seeking or claiming something.

By definition, anyone running for President (including Obama) feels entitled to the office.

Obamabots - you're turning off almost half of the Democratic Party. Is that going to feel good to you come November?

There is only one candidate that is jeopardizing the Democratic chances of winning in November and is sure as hell isn't Barack.

We live in a Republic. We vote for people to represent us in our government.

The elected officials in Florida and Michigan made a bad decision, and the upper body followed the rules, although they almost wrote new ones.

Please direct all anger at the elected officials who decided to move the vote. It's their names that should be here. It's their fault, and our problem, not Hillary's or Obama's. Ours.

Why should Hillary give up her campaign? The Obama has not won it. The game is not over. The numbers indicate neither Hillary nor the Obama can win the nomination without the votes of the superdelegates, who can vote for whomever they please. The fact is, if Hillary gets enough superdelegate votes, she will win the nomination. If she does not, and the Obama wins the nomination, he can run on his record - such as it is.

CHANGE YOU CAN BEREAVE IN

The blame for the current Florida and Michigan fiasco is properly laid upon the Democratic National Committee. It is worth nothing that BOTH candidates agreed to the DNC's actions, and signed loyalty pledges to abide by the ruling. Senator Obama is upholding his pledge; Senator Clinton is not.

Her campaign's disingenous crap about wanting to make sure voters aren't disenfranchised doesn't fly with me, and I am a Florida Democrat. She had no problem blowing off my support when she still assumed she'd be crowned with the nomination on Super Tuesday. I find her current "concern" insulting. She's showing her heritage of divisive, bitter, partisan politics. Haven't we had enough of this YET?

For me it is simple, I do not trust people who lack ethics. People who engage in bait-and-switch tactics lack all characteristics I value in a leader. The president of the United States must have trustworthy personal character.

I have dislike Hillary as a presidential candidate, but never could answer why. Now I can, answer why. The process of this campaign has gone beneath the façade of consultant purchased elegance to reveal her vanity. Riding the coattails of others is not a qualification for leadership; trying to sell it as merit is ridiculous.

Obama is done. Hussein Obama is now like a clown running around from state to state to deliver speeches of lie. These speeches are only to entertain kids. We already know who Obama is standing for, for that reason we no longer believe in his speeches.

NO TO OBAMA WHO IS SPREADING ANTI-AMERICAN AND HATRED

It seems strange that Obama would be so against Fla. since he spent $1.3 million in a state he knew wouldn't count. Hillary spent 130,000. Who got more bang for their buck? If situations were reversed then it would be called a racist issue.

Have we not been living with the mistakes of not counting votes for the last eight years? Apparently, we have yet to learn our lesson. Is it the citizens of Michigan and Florida that made the mistake of holding the primaries early? Why should they be punished? No matter who the citizens of these states support, their voices should be heard. The nomination should not be left up to the superdelegates who have their own personal agendas. I feel that both candidates are very strong and have lots of great qualities, but in determining who receives the final nomination we should ensure that all citizens have had the right to vote. By denying the citizens of these states are revote, we are essentially denying them their rights as American citizens. How can this be right? It seems that the only people that are listing opposition to this revote on this page are supporters of Obama. I have to ask, WHY?

Those of you who buy into Hillary's "spin" on Michigan and Florida are buying into more of her lies, lies, lies. Obama is not trying to suppress voters. He and Edwards followed the rules because they are genteleman of dignity and character. It is "our" legislature which is to blame by knowing the DNC's verdict on frontloading our primaries and our senate pushed it through, regardless. It is, in fact, our leaders who have disenfranchised us, not either of the candidates. Believe me, they will answer for this when they are up for re-election. As for Hillary's spin, she lost my vote when she signed pledges with the other candidates and violated every single promise she made. I was willing to give her a fair shot, but after that, forget it. She can't keep her promises now, what about when she's in the White House? If we, the Michigan voters, are willing to accept this, why can't the rest of the country. What do they have to complain about, their votes counted. This won't keep us from voting in the general election, hopefully, this disgust for our own legislative body will bring us out in droves.

The so called supper delegates should stop behaving like chickens. What is so hard about endorsing a candidate to sway voter opinion and have a clear cut winner before the convention. They are partly to blame for this chicken fight between Obama and Clinton. Why do you think Tyson bit Evander Holyfield's ear? Bill Richardson took the bold step why can't the rest do the same. If you are for Clinton move to the left, for Obama move to the right simple as that. Get this thing over with, organize the party so the republicans get what deserves them come November. Imagine a fight were an opponent is buttered from left to right and the referee does not step in to stop the fight just because he thinks the butchered one (in this case Hilary) will come back! Nonsense.

Myth: Clinton is fighting for the rights of all votes to be counted in Florida & Michigan, and Obama is fighting to keep them silent.

Reality: Obama's camp has proposed a 50/50 split of delegates, allowing them to attend and represent their states. Clinton, who holds on to her pipe dream of keeping these states as "wins" despite agreeing to the opposite, has refused this idea, because she is desperate and greedy.

Myth: Clinton is doing everything she can to help Florida and Michigan find their voices, and Obama is fighting to keep them silenced.

Reality: Obama's camp suggest caucuses for these states, which allow Democrats (as opposed to Republicans in disguise) to attend and represent their chosen candidates. Clinton's camp smacked this one down as well, because she knows her strength right now is in open primaries where Republicans (guided by the likes of Rush Limbaugh) can tilt the vote - the ONLY reason she's still "alive" in this race!

As a registered democrat Florida voter who did not have a choice in when the Florida primary was held I promise you if democrats keep my primary vote from counting my November ballot will be cast for McCain.

And let the record show I cast my primary vote for Obama.

Mr. Dean permitted this mess to occur in the 1st place and now Mr. Obama is keeping it from being corrected.
How could I cast a vote that shows benefit to either of them?

The spite and bile reflected on this comment section is the reason why the Democrats will lose the election when it should be a slam dunk. Horrible racial overtones along with Rove like politics will surely doom the country to more war and seperation.

The independents will have to save your butts when the hippy hangover Clintonites vote for McCain just out of spite. Truly amazing.

This mess primarily speaks to the Democratic National Commitee, though Clinton's camp is not helping.

How did they NOT foresee disallowing two large state primaries because of some esoteric "rules" violation, would be a disaster? This is precisely why politics drives me crazy - too worried over the process rather than the outcome.

Also everyone is quibbling over a few million dollars for a do-over. Really? That's the issue? That money could be raised in a week with a little fund raising effort.

McCain is looking better and better.

The only "nope" that's important is the Democrats saying "nope" to Hillary as the party's Presidential nominee.

And if she doesn't get over it and "cope", she's going to end up looking like a "dope".

HILLARY AND CARVILLE TAKE NEGATIVITY AND DIVISIVENESS TO NEW LEVELS - WORSE THAN LBJ, ATWATER, DICK MORRIS AND CARL ROVE

"THE AUDACITY OF NOPE" ???

HOW CHILDISH CAN YOU BE ??

AND ALL BECAUSE OBAMA WANTS TO FOLLOW DNC RULES THAT WERE ESTABLISHED LONG AGO

I SAID IT BEFORE AND I'LL SAY IT AGAIN;

HILLARY NEEDS TO TURN HER

"AUDACITY OF MOPE"

INTO ............

"AUDACITY OF COPE"

from little t - tom the independent

BILLARY - STOP DIVIDING OUR NATION YOU SELFISH _________ ___________S

OMG! Are people in Hillary's camp still complaining about Florida in the 2000 election??
