The Swamp

by Rick Pearson

WASHINGTON — After a rare day off, Sen. Hillary Clinton resumes her campaign today with a visit to Mississippi, which will hold its primary on Tuesday, carrying what her aides say is $3 million raised over the Internet since her primary wins earlier this week.

But the campaign has shown no signs of halting its bashing of rival Sen. Barack Obama over issues of national security and the economy since this week's primaries, saying the Illinois senator’s decision to aggressively challenge Clinton sidesteps a debate on the issues.

“What we have heard ever since then from the Obama campaign is a series of personal attacks on Hillary Clinton, and frankly some of them echo Republican charges that have been raised and combated and have failed over the years,'' said Ann Lewis, a senior adviser for the Clinton campaign.

Not that the Clinton campaign has raised and repeated its own criticisms of Obama, including his friendship with Antoin “Tony” Rezko, a fundraiser on trial in Chicago on federal corruption charges, and noted Obama’s failure to call the Senate Foreign Relations subcommittee he chairs to discuss NATO’s role in Afghanistan.

Howard Wolfson, the Clinton campaign’s chief spokesman, was non-committal about discussions about potential do-overs in Michigan and Florida, who had their nominating delegates stripped by the national party because they advanced their primaries before Feb. 5.

Pressure has been building among Democrats to find a way to seat both states’ convention delegations to avoid any voter backlash in two very important general election states. But prospects of holding new elections are very costly and neither state is willing or in a position to cough up millions of dollars to try to get the Democrats out of a sticky political problem.

“Our position has been all along that the people of these states have spoken, that their votes ought to count,” Wolfson said, counting both states in the Clinton “win” column even though her rivals avoided both contests in respect to national party rules. “We have urged our delegates to seat those delegations, but obviously we will continue to follow with interest the conversations that are occurring about ways to fix this situation.”

Wolfson did acknowledge that since Clinton did well in Florida and Michigan, “were there to be a primary, we would have a good opportunity to do well again, but I haven’t seen any specific plan floated out of those states.”

After Clinton made TV appearances yesterday that indicated the potential of a joint Democratic ticket with Obama, Wolfson said “certainly we’re not in a position to rule anything in or out.” But, he said, “there’s a lot more yet left to play out in this campaign” before anyone should look ahead to the so-called dream ticket that some Democrats have been fantasizing about as a way to rectify the problematic prolonged nominating battle.

Following her visit to Mississippi, Clinton heads to Wyoming on Friday, the eve of the state’s Democratic caucuses. Clinton is not expected to fare well in either state, with the campaign looking ahead for the seven-week marathon until the April 22 Pennsylvania primary. The campaign believes the Keystone State has similar problems and favorable demographics as Ohio, where she won handily on Tuesday.

Clinton probably donated the $3 million from her own funds. When is she going to release her income tax forms?

PERSONAL ATTACKS??

How is asking someone to release tax returns (like all the other candidates did) a personal attack?

Only in the land of Clinton.

Hello,

I think you should report about the lawsuit on-going in Hollywood, Ca. the Hill and Bill campaign underreporting of fundraising funds. Judge Aurelio N. Munoz. Their lawyer Kendall Coffey. Plaintiff Peter F. Paul investigate and report this info. Should be headline news. No bias intended, just like all organizations, just be fair.

With all due respect to both canidates, it seem to me that Obama's career is over once America gets the full gust of the winds of change blowing out of the federal courthouse concerning Obama mentor and BFF Tony Rezko...eat your heart out Oprah

Go HILLARY!

You have delivered a "political punch" to Obama's "glass jaw" and his Teflon vest is breaking as well.

Time go to get to know the man, inside and out and go for the knockdown!

Release your personal taxes and with that,a lollipop to a whimpering Obama in the corner, to ease the pain of LOSING!

She better collect it while she can, stand by for the revenge of NAFTA-gate.

"The organizations said Brodie told reporters from the CTV network last week that someone from the Clinton campaign was "telling the embassy to take it with a grain of salt". CTV probed the remark and then ran a story focusing on Obama."

It was the Clinton campaign playing dirty about NAFTA -

Please state the charges filed or it is nothing more than your wishful thinking.

Go HILLARY !

And with all due respect to conspiracy theorists, the Rezko trial will not hurt Obama's career one bit. Obama has already returned all the Rezko-tainted campaign contributions, and Obama did nothing wrong in relation to Rezko. Try as you will to taint him....

Even if Obama wins, he cannot ignore these two vital states: Michigan and Florida. Obama is too idealistic, he's another John Kerry who would melt in the General Election. C'mon, let's be pratical go for a joint ticket and the junior senator gets the the Veep. His time will come, give way to Hillary & Bill to solve this gargantuan problem of the Economy. Barack has a little experience to solve a moribund economy.

Yes, Oprah definitely hurt herself big time for playing the race card and supporting Barrack Obama/Michelle Obama openly. Many women in this American Society who were absolutely loyal for decades no longer watch the Oprah-Show as she openly endorsed a presidential candidate just because he is her color??? Many women supported her to get to the top, and now she goes out and splits the women vote. How strange that people forget how they got to the place where they are today?

Barack & Tony BFF
Come on Barack be HONEST about your BFF Tony Rezko. What did your dream home REALLY cost you?
Is that on YOUR tax return? Seems like the winds of change through personal gain are blowing in YOUR direction. Good luck motivating us on this one!

Clintons are stooping to such a low level of denigrating the dignity of the Oval office. She changes her stands so often according to her convenience. First she said superdelagates will decide. Now she says Ohio will decide. She and Bill are real "Washington" fellows. She should show dignity in campaign. Obama showed this- what if he asks what she was doing when all those drama was going in White house between Bill and Monica?

Release your TAX RECORDS Clinton. What are you afraid of ?

Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama:

Dear Madam, and Sir,

A Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama ticket is what we want. And that is what we need to take back the Whitehouse. We want a smart, tough, idealistic, seasoned veteran of many battles fighting for the American people (Hillary Clinton). With a young, passionate, smart, open-minded, hard-working idealist fighting for the American people (Barrack Obama). The DREAM TEAM!

You are both fabulous candidates. And we, the American people are very fortunate to have each of you. Taking back the Whitehouse is critical for the American people, and the world at this time. And I think the American people have been saying loudly, and clearly that a Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama ticket is the best way to do this.

I think the American people have made it very clear that they feel Hillary Clinton is the one best able to lead the ticket against John McCain at this critical, and desperate time in America, and around the world. These dramatic comebacks are testament to Hillary Clinton's skill, and experience as a fighter for the American people. They are also a testament to the strong desire of the American people to have both of you fighting for the American people at this time of midnight in America.

Typical of the Clinton's is an uncanny ability to see and understand what the American people want. And then to try and get it for them. Even if they have to go through three political near death experiences to try and get it for the American people. This is classic Clinton's. They are the best I have ever seen.

We are desperate out here. Millions of us are suffering greatly. And tens of thousands of us are dying needlessly every year. Men, women, children, and babies. We need help! As Hillary Clinton said "It's not a game". We need the two of you together on our side fighting for us, and for the American dream for all. Not fighting against each other anymore.

It's time for you Senator Obama to join forces with Hillary Clinton as her running mate so that we can all focus our energies, and resources on taking back America for the American people.

Don't make me hurt you. :-)

Sincerely

Jacksmith...

You must be crazy to think Obama's whole career is over. Look at the Clinton's, all the scandelous mess they've been involved in and they're still here. Get real.

It seems to me you might be an idiot. But I could be wrong...NOT.

Look I don't care how much cash this underhanded headline stealer raised, she still can't do math.

"Hillary Clinton won big victories Tuesday night in Ohio, Texas and Rhode Island. But she's now even further behind in the race for the Democratic nomination. How could that be? Math. It's relentless.

To beat Barack Obama among pledged delegates, Clinton now needs even bigger margins in the 12 remaining primaries than she needed when I ran the numbers on Monday—an average of 23 points, which is more than double what she received in Ohio.

Superdelegates won't help Clinton if she cannot erase Obama's lead among pledged delegates, which now stands at roughly 134. Caucus results from Texas aren't complete, but Clinton will probably net about 10 delegates out of March 4. That's 10 down, 134 to go. Good luck."

I took some money out of my groceries for Hillary, I am on Medicaid, Food Stamps ($69) and SSI of which I took $25.00 in the hopes that Hillary will be the winner.

No Matter whether you like her or not she has mor experience and has been very busy even before she is elected in talking to other mideastern Countries as well as I raq and Iran.

What has Obama done... As far as I can tell Talks pretty, and follows the leader...

With our economy the way it is she can get our finances handled so we are in the black just as her husband did.

This is no time to be playing the race card or thew gender card.

IT IS TIME TO PLAY THE EXPERIENCE CARD... I put my money where my mouth is... Okay I am not eating as well as I wwould like to.

I have several life threatening illnesses. I missed qualifing for full disability because I MISSED QUALIFYING BY 1 QUARTER...

Now let's talk fair and let's use our heads and votes to do some real changes only Hillary is capable of.

Walter, It's a personal attack if it is aimed at a Clinton. Of course Obama is fair game for all of their ridiculous garbage (Like the Drudge report picture, the racist video edits, or the unfortunate tendency they have of referring to Barack as Osama), but anyone questioning Hillary is making a personal attack. I hope that clears it up for you.

Way to go, Hillary! We always knew you'd pull through!

How is it that Clinton's campaign can openly vow to throw the kitchen sink at Obama, but even the slightest criticism of Clinton is a "Ken Starr" affront to her dignity.

She has fewer years of elected office than he does. She's been in the U.S. Senate for only a few more years than he. And most of the "experience" she's including in her "35 years of experience" is in unelected, unofficial, or private capacities.

It's entirely reasonable to say that that kind of experience should count, but why should it count for her and not for him?

She's also gotten where she is in life mostly because of her husband's accomplishments. (Not a lot of people from Arkansas get elected senator in New York.) Surely there are women out there who have succeeded on their own who would be a better first woman president. What an awful role model for young women: get ahead by marrying someone important.

There is the possibility that some of Bill Clinton's influence peddling schemes border on being illegal. Therefore we (the voters) have the right to see his and Hillary's income tax statement before we are saddled with her as the Democratic nominee. Before Hillary and Bill Clinton can be allowed to re-occupy the Oval Office the voters have to know how the Clintons amassed a multi million dollar fortune since leaving the White House. Especially in view or the facts that Bill Clinton has peddled his influence in Kazakhstan for Canadian billionaire Frank Giustra for the country's uranium rights; He has , or had, a financial partnership with the Emir of Dubai and his buddy Ron Burkle; Bill Clinton has earned millions ‘consulting’ for InfoUSA, an Iowa company that is under investigation for creating telemarketing lists used to fleece the elderly out of their life’s savings.

The voters have a right to know who is paying their bills.

To Edwin G:
Hillary is also "the junior senator". Typical ignorant Clinton supporter.

Stop giving Obama the free ride. When is the press going to examine his background???

Want a detail of how the mansion on the hill was purchased and teacher retirement money got into Obama's hands. Check out: Mansion 'mistake' piles the pressure on Barack Obama, http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/us_elections/article3433485.ece and teachers retirement money and another foreign fairy: Corruption trial threatens frontrunner http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/us_elections/article3466827.ece, Also check out today's Chicago Tribune... The world is watching and they don't like Obama!!! Many countries have already made refererence to his corruption ties and do not want to do business with him or us if elected! Obama is for sale, any body got some change?

Hillary Clinton is the man for the job!

Hillary should release her tax returns to deflect Obama from insinuations about her money.

How about Obama explaining to a common person their acquisition of their mansion in Chicago?

Let me see Obama is a lawyer, Michelle is a lawyer. Hard earned money without the Rezko connection probably would land them a cool $300,000.00 conservative estimate. After he was elected to the Illinois Senate, Michelle Obama's income was doubled to $300,000.00 (!?)and some hefty change, so even if Senator Obama is earning a paltry $100,000.00, the couple still has a combined income of $400,000.00. And now the book, that netted $500,000.00!

As a regular guy I'd like to be able to have a break on my first house to buy in Chicago.

Poor me I do not have a REzko connection!

I know they are trying to now accept the delegate votes in Florida/Michigan. This sounds like Bush politics, how can you go back and take back something that has been legally declared not qualifiable regarding the delegates. Unfortunately the Governors in those 2 states made a mistake in moving the primaries up therefore forfeiting the votes. So who's problem is that? Hillary needs to look elsewhere for delegate votes she only wants the action rescended because she is behind in delegate votes. NO WAY THEY SHOULD OVER TURN THIS.

If Obama bests Clinton, I'm crossing over and voting for McCain in the general election!

SENATOR Hillary Clinton will not need to continue injecting her own money into her campaign. Example: I contributed to her campaign twice a month, plus 10 more of my friends do the same; until her arrival to the White House!!!!
There are very committed followers. Please don't just assume.
I am not having morning coffee and no eating out for the entire family, in order to be able to contribute to Senator Clinton's campaign.

Denise, broken record, can't you come up with anything original?

watching all you dems fight is great entertainment

You Clinton contributors do realize your money is going for $100,000 worth of sandwiches, suites at Bellagio, and Penn and Wolfson's swimming pools, don't you?

Oh, one more thing - SHE LOST!
Do the math, she's done - except for spending the rest of your money.

Why won't she release her tax records like the other candidates did months ago?

Let me see Obama is a lawyer, Michelle is a lawyer. Hard earned money without the Rezko connection probably would land them a cool $300,000.00 conservative estimate. You are seriously underestimating their income. Lawyers fresh out of law school make $160,000 per year at the firm where Michelle Obama worked, with increases of $10-15 per year, and annual bonuses. It's no great surprise that they would have enough money to buy the house.

That's very noble of you Ray. Calling Obama a coon. How grand. That's a wonderful thing to see from Hillary supporters. She's already wallowing in the muck, why wouldn't her supporters be of the same ilk. Your mentality was reflected very well in Ohio so there is hope for Hillary. As long as people continue to have your bigoted mentality, anaything is possible for Hillary--any and everything.

Uh if there is a joint ticket of Obama / Clinton it won't last. Because she'll have him killed. Sorta like LBJ did to Kennedy. Just look where vince foster is at right now.6 feet under. She didn't even wait till the body was cold until she had her staff raid his office.

I too will vote for McCain if HIllary loses to Obama.

Let's be clear Obama is still ahead in...

National polls for Dem nomination by 1.4%

Delegates total by 109

General election he beats McCain by 5.5% where as Hillary only by 0.3%

As well as fundraising.

Hillary has raised over 4 MILLION DOLLARS since Tuesday!!! 45,000 donors have contributed in just 24 hours!!! Hillary has VERY PASSIONATE SUPPORTERS!!! We want our gal to win and she will!!!

To those making comments about Oprah and her backing Obama "ONLY" because he is black shows how truly biased you truly are. It is because of people like "YOU" that there is such a demand for change. This "categorizing" and "denigrating" people shows not only Americans, but the world how truly arrogant and wholefully unsophisticated some Americans are. To lead the world, you have to earn peoples trust. Countries are no longer going to allow leadership to be thrust upon them and Obama knows that, the rest of the world knows, that, therefore, it is about time that America understood that. There is definitely change in the wind and the world has made it's decision, we had better either, lead, follow or get the .... out of the way. Go OBAMA!!!

here is the relationship between Obama and Rezko in a nutshell. Rezko is his first and longest fundraiser who has been a major bankroller of Obama since he got into politics. They know each other very well. They have a strong 17 year relationship. Rezko partenr son was given a job as an intern for Obama. Rezko raised huge sums of money for Obama thru fundrasiers and bundling. Obama pays him back by writing a sereis of letters to assist Rezko in getting state funding for projects in Obamas district. That is a political favor whether or not Obama and his cronies say so. That is how it works in Chicago. they call it pay to play here. Then Rezko ionce again helps Obama by buying the lot next door so Obama can get $300,000 off the price. Without Rezko Obama would not have been able to afford the property. This kind of stuff happens all the time here in Chicago. Noone is shocked. This is business as usual on Cook County. Do you really beleive that this is all just a coincidence. That he pays 20% under the asking price while his largetst and longest poltical "friend" just happens to buy the adjoining lot with him. Also there just happens to be letters frmo Obama to help secure state funding of $14 mill for Rezkos company. Is anyone really that stupid that they think this is all just a coincidence? Come on man none is buying it. ALso drawing scandals to HIllary is not going to change the fact that Obama engaged in typical pay tio play Chicago politics. Remember Hillary is not the one running on the lie that she is a diff kinf of poltician. remember everyon already knows who Hillary is. Obama has been exposed as a hypocrite and until he admits what he did and just ackonwledges that Rezko and him exchangesd favors it will dog him thru the entire campaign. As the trial goes on it is going to get worse and worse.

FYI: Posted by: Walter | March 6, 2008 11:40 AM

There have been plenty of PERSONAL ATTACKS by the Obama camp.

The Periodically-attack and the Claws-attack, those are as personal as they can get and they are not the only ones. But I guess when Obama does them, it's small and inconsequential. But some of are paying attention and not blinded by the fake light behind Obama.

See I was even very conservative about their yearly combined income!

"GREED is GOOD" seems like the Obama credo borrowed from the "Wall Street' movie.

Clinton’s NAFTA switcheroo and Canadian meddling

Well, the Canadian press is reporting that it was actually the Clinton campaign that sent word to the Canadian government not to take the anti-NAFTA talk too seriously.

Somehow, by the time the story made it to print, Canada’s conservative Prime Minister’s office had “leaked” a memo that said it was Obama’s campaign that was saying not to worry about NAFTA. The Clinton part of the story was ignored.

This begs two questions: what is Canada doing meddling in our election and why was the Clinton campaign's involvement in this dropped from the story?

From the Globe and Mail:

“The news agency quoted that source as saying that Mr. Brodie said that someone from Ms. Clinton'scampaign called and was "telling the embassy to take it with a grain of salt."
The story was followed by CTV's Washington bureau chief, Tom Clark, who reported that the Obama campaign, not the Clinton's, had reassured Canadian diplomats.”

Give me a break!! Obama is going to have to be more convincing than his "Change" rhetoric. He should be a life coach in the motivational circuit with his feel good speeches not running for the highest office in the world..

Can Hillary give that $3M to the CTA?

Thanks, Hill!

Don't seat those Michigan and Florida delegates and the Dems can kiss those 44 electoral college votes good-bye come November.

In those states, who in their right mind would ever vote Democratic when the Dems refused to count their votes in the primaries.

With all due respect, Hillary has the higgest negatives and is the most divisive politician in the country. She can never beat McCain

Hillary has raised over 4 MILLION DOLLARS since Tuesday!!! 45,000 donors have contributed in just 24 hours!!! Hillary has VERY PASSIONATE SUPPORTERS!!! We want our gal to win and she will!!!

And I for one will send another $50.00 until I send a total of $200.00 over a period of two weeks. That is MY contribution!

HAIL HILLARY! YOU Go, GURL!

Have all of you dedicated Hillary supporters figured out yet how she's going to deal with countries in the Middle East other than have a SEX CHANGE OPERATION? Are YOU ALL SO UNEDUCATED THAT YOU DON'T know their stance towards women??? That area is our main concern, and you think having a FEMALE PRESIDENT is going to work??? As far as Barack and Michelle's house, that's THEIR BUSINESS!!! Put YOURSELF through Harvard or Princeton (IF you could even get ACCEPTED!!) and see where YOU THINK YOU SHOULD LIVE!!! I really and truly believe that some of you are just DOWNRIGHT JEALOUS!!!

Tax returns and White House papers now Senator Clinton. She must be fully vetted too.

P.S. All the Rezko nonsense shows the Clintons really learned their lesson from Whitewater.

keep going Hillary---you keep going,we will keep giving--its time to set America on the path of the 21st century with dignity and vision and experience

Barack Obama’s Whitewater?
Barack O"Bama wanted to buy a house in Chicago. The house had an adjoining lot.
The House and lot are priced at $975,000
Obama couldn't afford $975,000.
Obama goes to Antoin “Tony” Rezko, for advice.
Rezco makes it possible for Barack Obama to buy the house in this manner:
On the same day at closing Obama buys the house for $350,000
On the same day at closing Rezko's wife purchases the lot for $625,000.
The appraised value of the lot prior to closing was $243,000
After closing Obama acquired 1/6 of the lot for $104,500, or a sixth of the original $625,000 purchase price. The sale closed in January 2006."
Cost to Obama for the house at closing was...................... $350,000
After closing Obama acquired 1/6 of the lot..........................$104,500
Net cost to Obama for House and 1/6 lot.............................$454,500

House and lot on the date of closing combined sold for........ $975,000

Obama felt it would be fair to pay the Rezkos $104,500, or a sixth of their original $625,000 purchase price, because he was acquiring a sixth of their land. The sale closed in January 2006." One-sixth of Rezko's lot was worth $40,500. Six-sixths would therefore be worth $243,000. Rezko's wife paid $625,000 for a lot worth $243,000. Got it now? That is NOT full asking price. That's $382,000 TOO MUCH. Coincidentally, right next door, Obama is BUYING a house for $300,000 LESS than the asking price. Then he pays Rezko $64,000 TOO MUCH for the sixth of the lot he's adding to his property. If you can't smell the stench you haven't got a sense of smell.

Has the land remained vacant? If so, what was Mrs. Rezko's purpose in purchasing it?

Does Mrs. Rezko routinely purchase land in her name only?

Does what's left of the land -- if it's still vacant -- meet local zoning laws as being big enough to build on?
If not, what good is it to her? And if it is big enough to be a buildable lot, is this an area where new construction is common?

Yawn.

The math doesn't lie. She can't win, even if she sweeps the remaining states.

GO Hillary - Maybe we can walk through the city of Pittsburgh without 150 people hitting the ground when a car backfires..

Way to much black violence in the City.

YAWN YOURSELF! Neither of them can win enough delegates. Obama is going to have to be more convincing than his "Change" rhetoric. He should be a life coach in the motivational circuit with his feel good speeches. Not running for the highest office in the world..

She stood by her man during White Water, gaining experience.
She stood by her man
while he sold the Neuton Bomb to China, gaining experience.
She stood by her man while he instituted NAFTA, gaining experience.
She stood by her man while he turned the Oval Office into a brothel, gaining experience.
When he left the White House she helped him strip the artifacts, gaining experience.
Can this country afford any more of her experience?

Look jacksmith if knowing when to put false information out and cause doubt is the ability you want in your next president then you're crazy. i bet you voted for bush twice. and exactly what battles did hillary clinton fight. staying by bill while he got impeached. Not crying in front of the media when monica and clinton gate came up all the court battles she and investigations she went through. I don't think that qualifies her to be our next commander in chief.

Oprah is probably funding Obama's campaign. Hillary has the Democratic base behind her. Obama has the Republicans to thank for his wins in the red states. They crossed over to vote for him. They're setting him up for McCain because he's the weaker candidate.

Hillary would rather have McCain than a fellow democrate.

Leigh, you once again proved how prejudiced and IGNORANT (like the media's been saying for months) the Clinton supporters are. I really wish you and people like you start your own party and take Shrilly with you.
