“How bad is it’’ for Barack Obama in Pennsylvania?
“Just how bad is documented by some key findings from a series of polls, including the Franklin and Marshal College Poll, all released recently,’’ writes Terry Madonna, professor of public affars at F&M and Michael Young, managing partner of Michael Young Strategic Research.
“Almost none of the results bode well for Obama,’’ they write of the Apr. 22 Democratic primary, from the polling they are looking at. “cross the board Clinton is winning and winning big. She has decisively stopped Obama’s earlier momentum in Pennsylvania—and seems set for a romp.’’
The two experts cite many factors, not the least of which is the “rough patch’’ that Obama went through with his pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Between mid-February and mid-March, they write, Obama suffered a 10 percentage-point decline in his favorability rates in the state.
Among Democrats in general in Pennsylania, Clinton holds an advantage over Obama ranging from 16 to 26 points, they say in their column, Politically Uncorrected.
“She is winning every major region of the state except Philadelphia, while Obama has actually slipped slightly with blacks and more substantially with younger voters — two demographics that are critical backstops for him in the contest. He has also lost support with other key constituencies including white males and evangelicals.’’
Clinton also is perceived as stronger on the economy and health care, two of the three issues which concern Pennsylvania voters most, and she is virtually tied with Obama as the candidate whom voters most support to end the war in Iraq.
Clinton leads among women (57% to 29%), whites (57% to 29%), voters age 55 and older (55% to 29%), union member households (67% to 26%), and Born Again Christians (45% to 38%). She also leads among Catholics (by 26 points) and Protestants (by 23 points). Obama has the clear edge only among non-whites (76% to 12%). Obama and Clinton are tied or virtually tied among younger, college-educated, and male voters.
Clinton leads in every region of the state except Philadelphia and holds “overwhelming leads” in the Northeast, Northwest, and Central Pennsylvania. “At this point only Philadelphia and the Philly suburbs (Southeast Pennsylvania) seem competitive for Obama,’’ Madonna and Young write.
“But the Pennsylvania polls only tell why Clinton is doing so well; they don’t explain why Obama is doing so badly,’’ they add. “And this too needs to be understood in assessing what might happen during the final month of the campaign.
“Among the reasons Obama is lagging in Pennsylvania is that he has not spent much time there, whereas Clinton has spent considerable time in the state since voting ended in Ohio and Texas. By some estimates she has invested twice as much time and made twice as many trips into the state.
“Equally important in understanding Obama’s problems is the week or so of rough patch he endured during the controversy over his church pastor,’’ they write. “That period probably produced a greater increase in his polling “negatives” than any other in the campaign. From just mid-February to mid-March, he sustained a 10 point decline in his favorable ratings, according to the Franklin and Marshall College Poll.

There still plenty of time for Hillary to make more mistakes. The long span between primaries favors Obama. The more people look at Hillary the more they see the real person rather than the candidate and more ground she loses.

DID YA HEAR ?
hillary has now used the excuse "I say millions of words a day" as the reason she lied about the sniper fire in Bosnia.
To speak one million words in one day would require about a dozen words per second - for 24 hours straight - NONSTOP !
Obama-girl has it right - hillary, you need to shut up once in a while.

It is called buyers remorse. I voted for Obama in IL and now wish I could change my vote. If he wins I will be voting for McCain. I am sorry but hate speech of any kind should not be tolerated. Also some of the Obama supporters are giving really lame excuses that they certainly would not give if it were any other candidate. I like Obama but I can not lower my standards and principals just because I voted for him. That seems to be the thing to do now a days. Just make every excuse in the book for your chosen candidate and attack everything else the others do. I am sorry but the Obama supporters sound like Bush and Blagoevich supporters who no matter what will never admit that their candidate is wrong. Even though deep down they know he is. I think everyone who is honest would say that Obama should have left the church after hearing this hate speech. Its one thing to hear it 1 or to go to a church a couple of times but to have a 25 year personal and church based relationship with someone like Wright is just too much to give a 30 min speech and expect everyone to forget. Also I was taken aback by him lying on MSNBC that he never heard such remarks and then admitting in his speech that he had.

We all know that the Hillary Clinton political campaign is closely scripted and the daily press releases reflect the Clinton dodge ball concept of political strategy and their innate ability to get away with their nasty tactics they believe to be, if not high impact at least necessary.
The Clintons' latest battle attack is of course personalized and directed to destroy Barrack Oboma from every conceivable direction and somehow they know that Oboma cannot respond to all of their escalating attack points and therefore he will slowly but surely seem to be inadequate to the task of being the Democrats Presidential Candidate and succumb to their methods of intimidation.
The Clinton machine has many assets including Bill. He can say or do anything with a straight two faced demeanor in behalf of the Clinton machine including raising money for his foundation from foreign interests whose names he refuses to release to the Federal Govt. and whose objectives oppose our countries laws and interests. Seems like the same good old Bill, keeping himself busy by doing Hillary’s dirty work and raking in millions into his foundation. Sure beats the social security that most of us honest senior citizens get.
Mrs. Clinton's political election methods/ tactics seem familiar. The old adage that you try to accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative seems to be Bill and Hillary’s theme song. The last time a Clinton held an Executive Office, a member of the team was caught with both of their hands in a cookie jar and both of the Clinton's were asked to leave the White House. Now if they are successful in their second attempt to reinstate the Clinton legacy I suspect that everyone will be waiting for the second shoe to fall. If you don't want this scenario to reoccur vote Republican and John Mc Cain will lead our country to prosperity and back to its former leadership position in the world and the Clintons will be hopefully be in permanent retirement.
My last question: How can the democrats solve the problem(s) they created with the vast maze of different kinds of Super Delegates and a burocrecy that they invented to elect one individual of their choice to represent their party and hopefully from their point of view the next president of our great country.
The have become a laughing stock and not a very good example on how they could take over the executive office of our great country. The only remedy to their situation is to have one man/woman vote, add up the totals and whoever has the most votes is their standard bearer. Cool. Just like the Republicans.

What about the youth vote? most of them I feel are left out of polls such as this due to the use of cell phones as opposed to land lines. PLus the fact that Hillary would have to pull a miracle out of the Clinton hat to beat Barack this deep into the race. I feel a lot of this 'battle' has become media hype for ratings. I was unsure about Barack until his race speech. i felt that he answered all of my questions and as a recent article pointed out, Abraham Lincoln had about as much experience as Obama now has when he became president.
To top all of that off, look what all of that experience did for the Bush White House.

I can tell you why he's not doing good in Pa. We all see right through his Racial rhetoric and his Racist mentor. Who in their right minds would ever consider voting for such a fraud?

Rick B shut up! Dont you know half of that stuff was blown up by the media.. Fox news in which Murdoch hosted Hilary's election win senate dinner in 06 and is a public backer of Hilary! (half the crap you said has been over played on that station) Also how can he be responsible for the ones who want to back him. McCain has some racisit who are backing him. (He said he had people who he didn't agree with backing him on the news in defense to Obama and the pastor) Why isnt the media talking about that? Half of this crap is lies and the other has been spread by Hilary's dirty campagin. Research the stuff you write. You sound very petty and un-educated on the topic.

The funny thing about polls is that they change, rapidly. For example, the Rasmussen poll from today (March 25) shows Clinton up by only 10%. The last major poll was by PPP on March 15/16 and had Clinton up by 26%. I think it's safe to say the only reliable thing about polls this year is their unreliability. What people tell you on the phone on any particular day, unless they are diehard supporters of a particular candidate, is only weakly correlated to how they will vote weeks later. It is very difficult to tell, based on a quick telephone interview, how firm someone's support really is.
Posted by: Doug | March 25, 2008 5:50 PM
These experiences don't match my own. All of the educated and middle class people that I know were inspired by Obama's speech. Many people also resent the media for attacking his church.
To me, it looks like Obama will lock the nomination either in PA or NC. I still believe PA voters will eventually look at the issues, and realize that Obama is better on the economy, healthcare, and energy.
Vote Obama on April 22.

He is half white people! He hates himself I'm so sure! He is not a racist. His mother and grandparents raised him. They are white. He must hate them too. Give me a break. Buyers remorse??? That is so lame! Seriosuly listen to the entire sermon of the pastor Wright. Not snippets people. I dont think he said anything bad. It was taken out of context and out of topic. He used other people... Quoting others when he said the chicken line that everybody was so mad about. It was a low blow and unfair. Just listen. Take 45 mins of your time and actually dont just listen to the main stream news (fox) with their personal agendas. Look it up for yourself! Trusting the news as if they dont have their own agendas and are really giving you the whole story is like believing in Santa Claus. They know people wont educate themselves further. They know you wont look stuff up yourself. You'll trust what they say and hate Obama. Polotics are dirty. You have to be your own news. You have to look things up for yourself. Dont be sheep.

Two new polls of Pennsylvania and North Carolina, the two biggest remaining states left, were released today and show momentum towards Barack Obama.
- First, Rasmussen now has Clinton up 49% to 39% in Pennsylvania. Last week, she led 51% to 38% and the week before she led 52% to 37%. This data is important for a few reasons.

I am actually disappointed, by the comments I read up here. And by me typing this, will not matter to the authors of these disappointing comments, but anyways I press on. Some Amerericans are quick to past judgement on a man, that you only know 2 seconds of. I am not condemning him for what he said, matter of fact he should of added more to it. I've listen to his sermon a thousand times, trying to find someting deegradeable, racial and right out disgraceful. But I fail, I see the truth given to you harshly, but never the less the truth. I sit and watch him preach this sermon, and I see a man being oppress when he was younger by America's Mass Majority. And then I read cmments like the ones on here, by the mass majority, realizing they do not have a heritage baptizized in oppression and inferiority. And, I'm not steaming mad at the Mass Majority, because they can not fanthom the oppression, the inferority or the chastisement that Black Culture, Hispanic Culture or any othe minority have face in AMERICA. I am again finding myself propelled to the fact, in condemnation another man is condemned for what another man says. I am upset with America, after all these years I fell oppressed because we never dealt with America Vices in democracy, but quick to condemns the Irans , the Iraqs and any other Middle Eastern Country. I am not proud to be an American, I am ashamed to be an American...And Like Rev. Wright in a more suddle tone NO GOD BLESS AMERICA, but GOD HELP AMERICA.

It is amazing that people make judgements on a whim without considering all possible relevant factors. To me Obama is an exception. I have read his books and I can see where he came from and has learned from his mistakes. Knowledge is power and with this knowledge acquired through being open-minded, to see both sides of the coin, and his strong belief that things can be improved in the way the country is run, I can see that he is the true leader that can make things happen for all to reap the rewards. One can see his true character as a person when he rejected and did not agree with the negative views of his pastor but did not disown him as a friend. The country would be richer with Obama as the President of the USA. He can be likened to Abraham Lincoln.

This is from Hillary's own minister. Maybe she should heed his words.
A STATEMENT CONCERNING THE REV. JEREMIAH WRIGHT
The Reverend Jeremiah Wright is an outstanding church leader
whom I have heard speak a number of times. He has served for
decades as a profound voice for justice and inclusion in our society.
He has been a vocal critic of the racism, sexism and homophobia
which still tarnish the American dream. To evaluate his dynamic
ministry on the basis of two or three sound bites does a grave
injustice to Dr. Wright, the members of his congregation, and the
African-American church which has been the spiritual refuge of a
people that has suffered from discrimination, disadvantage, and
violence. Dr. Wright, a member of an integrated denomination, has
been an agent of racial reconciliation while proclaiming perceptions
and truths uncomfortable for some white people to hear. Those of us
who are white Americans would do well to listen carefully to Dr.
Wright rather than to use a few of his quotes to polarize. This is a
critical time in America's history as we seek to repent of our racism.
No matter which candidates prevail, let us use this time to listen again
to one another and not to distort one another's truth.

IF you loved your political party and its people, would you fight hard to become President? (sure)
IF you loved your party and its people, would you rage an intense battle against the other contenders? (Of course)
IF you loved your party and its people and your political views were nearly a carbon copy of the other candidate from your very same party, would you continue to slander your peer even after your chances of winning the nomination is now completely impossible?
IF you really loved your party and its people, would you suggest that the other party's candidate is better suited for the job?
Come on, Democratic Party, press, and America. Is it not clear whom Hillary loves?
If she doesn’t care about us now, why would we believe that she will care about us if she were to become President?

Hillary did NOT listen to her church or she would not have voted for the Iraq war - United Methodist Church - also Bush & Cheney's - before the invasion the church said do not do it
Iraq War 'Unjustifiable', says Bush's Church Head by Ed Vulliamy in New York Oct, 2002
http://www.commondreams.org/headlines02/1020-02.htm
President George Bush's own church has launched a scathing attack on his preparations for war against Iraq, saying they are 'without any justification according to the teachings of Christ'.
Jim Winkler, head of social policy for United Methodists, added that all attempts at a 'dialogue' between the President and his own church over the war had fallen on deaf ears at the White House.
His remarks came as the US continued its efforts to achieve agreement on a UN resolution that would open the way for a tough program of weapons inspections in Iraq. France is believed to be concerned that the current draft resolution might still act as a trigger for military intervention without a full Security Council debate if Iraq fails to comply.
The Methodist Church, he says, is not pacifist, but 'rejects war as a usual means of national policy'. Methodist scriptural doctrine, he added, specifies 'war as a last resort, primarily a defensive thing. And so far as I know, Saddam Hussein has not mobilized military forces along the borders of the US, nor along his own border to invade a neighboring country, nor have any of these countries pleaded for our assistance, not does he have weapons of mass destruction targeted at the US'.

Hillary cannot tell the difference between truth and lie. If she cannot tell the difference between dodging sniper fire and a welcome poem from an eight-year-old girl, how will she respond to the 3 a.m. red phone call? She is commander-in-lies, and from day one she will lie to the American people. The Clinton dynasty is destroying the Democratic party in their effort to destroy Senator Obama. Wolfson can accept Carville's vile attacks on the nation's first and only Hispanic governor, but the Obama campaign is not permitted to defend itself. Does the Empress expect only eunachs to surround her? The party will lose the younger generation of voters, and many in the mainstream like myself, a life-long senior citizen party member. The Clinton dynastic machine may prevail but it will leave the republic and the party in ruins. Please, Pennsylvania, turn the page for us all, for a more perfect union, and vote for Senator Obama.

For twenty years Obama has been an active, tithing member of a racist, America-hating institution. He brings his innocent children there to have their minds poisoned with hatred and lies. Contradicting what he wrote in his own autobiography, he suggests his grandmother is a "typical white person", a racist and the moral equivalent of the venomous, frothing-at-the -mouth Pastor Wright. The miracle is that Obama gets any votes at all, even against a flawed and unattractive candidate like Clinton.

I want to address this statement below:
What's happened to the uniter? What's happened to the positive campaign? What's happened to no more politics as usual? In a few words what happened are, Rezco, Wright, terrorist sympathizers, and one small bit of scrutiny by MSM.
I could not agree more. Barack Obama is doing everything in his power to win. THE PROBLEM IS THE PLATFORM HE WAS RUNNING ON HAS COLLAPSED.He has proven that he does not have good judgement. HE NOW SCARES THE HELL OUT OF ME. He thinks by getting Richardson to join him, he will get the Latino vote. THAT IS LAUGHABLE.
The Latinos love Hillary Clinton and have consistently voted for her, giving her around 65-69 % of their votes. THEY DON'T LIKE OBAMA. And now with all the tapes that surfaced on Pastor Wright, you think they would suddenly like Obama?!!
Here' the biggest nightmare of all: Since Obama was never vetted by the MSM, he has been confronted with Rezco and Pastor Wright, and is very defensive. So what does he do next? He does a full blown assault on Hillary Clinton, and basically tries to split the Democratic party. Them his people try to say it is Hillary Clinton's fault. PLEASE!! 20 years ago Hillary Clinton did not introduce Barack Obama to his white hating Anti -Amercian Pastor. That was Baracks' choice.
And as time went on, did Barack Obama choose to leave the Pastor's church when he heard him spew hatred at the "rich white people who run the U.S.A." ? NO WAY. He decided to get married by the pastor, have his babies baptized by the Pastor, write a book with a title that was inspired by one of the Pastor's sermons, and put on his spiritual campaign committee.
WE STILL HAVE A CHANCE TO FIN THIS MESS.
Here are some tapes to see if you haven't already:

DROP OUT OF THE RACE OBAMA!OBAMA IS UNELECTABLE IN GENERAL ELECTION
Easy to see already see Republican attack ads against Obama. First open with videos of racist wife, Michelle, saying she was proud of America "for the first time" because of her husband's presidential candidacy, next Obama explaining that he doesn't wear an American flag lapel pin or hold his hands to his heart during the Pledge of Allegiance because it is a "substitute for true patriotism." Then flash a clip of Obama explaining that his Caucasian grandmother was a "typical white person" because she uttered racial epithets and was afraid of black people. Finally, the coup de grace, pictures of Obama's angry, arm-waving preacher blaming the United States for 9/11 and shouting "God Damn America" to the rafters of Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ and preaching the U.S. government formulated the HIV AIDS virus to commit genocide against blacks. Even though Obama supposedly condemning Wright's shocking verbal assaults against the U.S and White Americans, even last year; Obama was the first to public ally demand Don Imus ouster for making a racially insensitive remark, and Obama continues to support Wrights racism and remains at the church for more than 20 years, he and Michelle obviously feels it’s a good environment to expose his young daughters too. His opinions and issues change with the weather, he is too UNSTABLE and proven he cannot make a decision or stay with one. If that’s not enough, then you start showing his terrible senate voting record, Obama when faced with tough choices always gave in to pressure from the Bush administration or corporate lobbyists, Obama dealings with one of his largest contributors, Exelon, a big nuclear power company and the deals he cut behind closed doors to protect them from full disclosure in the nuclear industry. Obamas record shows he infact did support the war when he got to the senate, voted twice against bringing America's troops back home. He voted for war appropriations giving our money to Halliburton and Blackwater where Texas woman, was gang-raped by her co-workers at a Halliburton/KBR camp in Baghdad, His latest bit of posturing S 433 allows the Bush Administration to suspend any troop withdrawal, if not suspended, keeps the troops in Iraq for a long time to come, but in his camp stumps touts he wants to bring troops home, but as we have witnessed his recent lies to voters like Canada he cannot be trusted on his word and lastly ALL the corrupt indicted financial backers, like Rezko…Get out of the race Obama you are destroying the democratic party!
MYTH: Barack Obama is running a positive campaign that will unite Americans.
FACT: Barack Obama and his advisers have conducted a divisive "full assault" on Hillary's character.
While talking a lot about the politics of hope, change and unity, Sen. Obama and his campaign have been conducting a relentless and singularly personal assault on Hillary's character. They have blanketed big states with false negative mailers and radio ads and have described Hillary and her campaign as "disingenuous," "divisive," "untruthful," "dishonest," "polarizing," "calculating," "saying whatever it takes to win," "attempting to deceive the American people," "one of the most secretive in America," “deliberately misleading,” “literally willing to do anything to win,” and “playing politics with war."
This "full assault" on Hillary's integrity and character has reached a new peak since Hillary's victories on March 4th. One of Sen. Obama's top surrogates equated President Clinton with Joe McCarthy; another called Hillary a "monster;" and his campaign manager held an angry conference call claiming that Hillary is "deeply flawed" and has "character issues." That's neither unifying nor hopeful. If Sen. Obama really is the prohibitive favorite some say he is, these negative attacks make absolutely no sense. Why would a frontrunner seek to attack and divide? If Sen. Obama can't unify Democrats in a primary, how can he unify Americans in a general election?

Get a grip. Obama has said numerous times that he disavowed what Wright said. On the other hand, you have a liar who says she was in mortal danger with gun fire only to view pictures to the contrary. I think you would remember a war zone especially since you had your young daughter along. Clinton would have gone to another church???? Well, why didn't she go to another husband?? How can any of you people believe the Clinton's is wayyyyyy beyond me.

I have relatives in Philly, average, upper-middle-class white people (dad's a doctor) whom I didn't know until relatively recently. One of my cousins, a very nice, decent woman of about 40 years old, floored me suddenly with an e-mail she sent (we'd started communicating regularly) in which she volunteered, out of the blue, "I just don't like black people. I just don't think they're decent."
That's when we stopped communicating. I was incredibly saddened by that revelation, and it shocked me that a woman who seemed so intelligent and open-minded would harbor such an unreflective, bigoted viewpoint toward an entire race.
I have to wonder: is this the culture Obama is facing in PA, a lot of "decent" white people who stay in their little worlds, never cross the urban dividing line, never get to know black people as human beings, and hold tight to these views that "color" their entire outlook? Is this what the urban Rust Belt has done to people? I hope I'm wrong, but she just seems so average, so normal. She didn't even have the awareness that saying such a thing might be offensive, that this view she so freely shared with me is just so abysmally ignorant and cold.
How far we all still have to go.
