A lawyer in a predominantly Democratic suburb of Cleveland relates this tale to The Swamp on the day before the all-important Ohio primary:
So last night around dinner time, the phone rings. It’s the Hillary campaign–official number, per the caller ID. The woman on the other end asks me if Hillary can count on my support Tuesday. I say I have not decided.
She asks what would help me decide. I say, “Well . . . maybe she can make Bill her vice president.” She does not know how to take me, of course, but has to assume I am serious. “I don’t think she can do that.” “Bill will have a significant role in major decisions, though, won’t he?” I ask. “Oh, certainly he will be very involved. Do you like Bill?” “Very much.” I reply.
She then launches into a two-minute spiel on all the very specific initiatives and proposals Hillary has put forth on health care, the war in Iraq, etc., etc. At the end of her spiel, she says, “And we haven’t heard anything that specific from Osama bin Laden.”
I say, “You did not just say that.” She replies, “I’m sorry . . . just a slip of the tongue.” She then thanks me for my time and encourages me to vote for Hillary on Tuesday.
The lawyer says he was "stunned" and tells The Swamp the call originated from the Clinton campaign in Columbus. Are the dirty tricks ramping up as we get down to the wire? Swamp readers in Ohio and Texas, relate your own encounters with the Clinton or Obama campaigns if you've had them.

Here's the thing. We all know they're doing this and we don't like it, and of course they know they're doing this and some of her supporters like it, and some don't. We all know at this point that she's history. So the nastiness is over-the-top, and it's making normally reasonable people declare that they will never do this or that.
Some of us, besides not liking this, are thinking that maybe it's actually better to just lose the damn thing because at least it will get these people out of the party forever -- or at least out of the White House. So if we lose, then she's about 64 the next time, and that's starting to get a little older, but she could still try to force herself in. But because of the divisiveness she caused in 2008, democrats are much, much, much less enthused about her than they were. And of course, HE is still very young -- around 50 at that point. So yeah, maybe it's better to just take the hit and finally get them out of it for good. I like that.

The Clinton name is in shambles. The Hillary SLIME MACHINE is in full gear. Karl Rove eat your heart out. Pathetic.
An all new low in democratic politics.
Should Hillary win many independents like myself will be forced to vote for John McCain. At least he is an honest man unlike Hillary. She is an embarrassment, not only to womaen like myself but to America as a whole. I feel sorry for Mr Obama having to deal with the Clintons stooping to all new lows. Shame on the Clintons.
Incredible to see a formerly beloved woman reach the depths of depravity. Really makes you wonder what Hillary Clinton administration would be like. The criminality would likely excede that of the Bush administration.
Truely frightening!

The Clintons are a class act despite that whole impeachment thing and a few other minor legal issues. They'd never sully their image by trying to promote right-wing tinfoil-hat type conspiracy theories linking their opponent to terrorists...unless they were really, really desperate for a win.

Passing on fear mongering. On the one hand you want to "inform." On another, you're just spreading this bit to incite fear of a candidate. Feeding the rumor mill. Nice touch with the prominent lawyer-because lawyers don't lie. And her name was-
Here's my experience.

so, as a veteran, an independent American voter and a medical professional in good standing, I humbly ask ;
please no more bush/clinton/bush/clinton
please
if you want vision, vote obama
if you want experience, vote mccain
but if you want DI-vision and a BAD flashback, then by all means vote clinton - because that is what your country will get
peace, everyone

There you have it, a typical Hillary voter. Anyone with half a brain has run from the Clinton campaign. She is a very frightening person and so are her supporters.

Hillary's despicable tactics are nothing new - she has played the 'race' and 'muslim' card throughout this campaign - check out video of 60 minutes where she fed into the muslim hysteria by not clearly defending Barack against the smear campaign in Ohio - The 60 minute reporter did, but Hillary did not. We are not dealing with an above board and honorable candidate in Hillary Clinton - a shameful low in American politics.

Even Obama's supporters sometimes call him "Osama". Teddy Kennedy, for instance, famously (and embarrassingly) did so.

obamaboy is sooooo sensative....Obama says he highly respects the opinions of Rev. Wright who Obama has said brought hope to many and gave an award to the notorious Louis Farrakhan. Nation of Islam Minister who said we are witnessing the phenomenal rise of a man of color in a country that has persecuted us! Obama hasn't distanced himself from Farraklhan as he wants the media to believe. A number of Jewish and pro-Israel voters have concerns and raised questions about Barack Obama. In case you haven't followed this ongoing issue, here's a brief summary of the complaints:Obama has called for engaging Iran. Daniel Ayalon, Israel's former ambassador to the United States, told the New York Sun he is concerned Obama would want to negotiate with a "Hitler-like" regime. Some of Obama's policy advisors of various stripes, such as Samantha Power, Robert Malley, and Zbigniew Brzezinski, have come under attack for their views on Israel. World Jewish Congress President Ronald Lauder fears, it's only a matter of time before the president becomes anti-Israel Howard Friedman, the president of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, said the leading presidential candidate are all interested in continuing close ties with Israel. Obama in traditional muslim garb brought these questions back to the fore Obama is a closet Muslim. Obama hasn't distanced himself from Farraklhan as he wants the media to believe, Obamas and his church said Farrakhan "epitomized greatness. For Americans, Farrakhan epitomizes racism, particularly in the form of anti-Semitism. Over the years, he has compiled an awesome record of offensive statements, even denigrating the Holocaust by falsely attributing it to Jewish cooperation with Hitler "They helped him get the Third Reich on the road." His history is a rancid stew of lies. Any praise of Farrakhan heightens the prestige of the leader of the Nation of Islam. His anti-Semitism and particularly his false insistence that Jews have played an inordinate role in victimizing African Americans. Farrakhan's dream has vilified whites and singled out Jews to blame for crimes large and small. He talks of Jewish conspiracies to set a media line for the whole nation. He has reviled Jews in a manner that brings Hitler to mind. And yet Obama and Rev Wright heaped praise on Farrakhan. He applauds his "depth of analysis when it comes to the racial ills of this nation." He praised "his integrity and honesty." He called him "an unforgettable force, a catalyst for change and a religious leader who is sincere about his faith and his purpose." These words of the black man who touts change and claims to be a uniter of all people?

I put this down to a slip of the tongue. If every time Politician A's staff used bad language to describe Politician B was reported in the press there wouldn't be enough ink left over to print the rest of the news.
The tone between the Obama and Clinton camps has become testy enough that no one is talking about a "Obama/Clinton" ticket anymore. But that's just politics.

Look at them fight over his name Rick. We got this, just look at them, Cole, they look like they found 100 million dollars in a "Katrina victims" pocket.
Haley, look at them, every night day in and day out, trying to figure out who named his son "HUSSEIN".
I wouldn't name my child HUSSEIN for 100 million dollars and I have it.
Rick, if we can keep this in the headlines for another week or two, you will slide the "BARS OF JUSTICE" just like Craig, Foley, Vitter, Vicki, Harriet, and Karl Rove.
Perdue, just look at them Rick, stay focus on John's campaign and all the criminal activity you put into it's success. Don't worry about your defense fund, we got this. Haley has 100 million dollars from the katrina fund in his cofer!
Look at america, it's like they are all reading "SEE SPOT RUN SEE AMERICA RUN" by T. Goeglein.

Barack Obama has sworn off the politics of fear. I know the scripts for Obama HQ calls because I've worked the phones on behalf of his campaign in three states! And I know that he does NOT, under any circumstances, condone fear-mongering behavior. In fact, when you make calls for Obama, you never mention the other candidate. If the voter says "I plan to vote for the other candidate", you thank them for their time and you hang up -- period!
This must end, folks. Clinton has resorted to these tactics simply because she is losing and it's classless, distasteful and quite frankly, embarrassing.
I am all for showcasing your differences on policy, experience, whatever -- but Clinton volunteers resorting to these tactics means she has failed to send the proper signals to her campaign. It really is a shame and Clinton should be ashamed!

Jackie:
Let me say this on behalf of Bill R.:
You are a bigot. First of all, that was not Muslim dress that Obama was in - it was African. Secondly, the AIPAC is in the back pocket of the Republican Party. Third, being Jewish myself, I am more concerned about a candidate like McCain being endorsed by John Hagee, a noted anti-Catholic and anti-Semite, who McCain has praised in the past. Obama has rejected the endorsement of Farrakhan - why hasn't McCain done the same???
As a matter of fact, what is John McCain's foreign policy?? All we have heard about is 100 more years in Iraq. What about the rest of the world??

Gosh...I don't know who to start with. Let's start with Jackie....I'm not sure if your elevator goes to the penthouse anymore, but your memory is even worse. Farrakans' endorsement was not sought after, unlike McBushs' endorsement who hates Catholics. Not to mention he rejected and denounced his endorsement. Much unlike McBush who proudly proclaimed his new found Catholic hating freind. Yes that right really has a moral compass. If you would like to post a few facts, I'ld be glad to see them...until then, it just mental masturbation.

The rumor continues to circulate, in part because the culture and environment of the Clinton campaign was one in which staffers felt it was to their advantage to pass along such e-mails. Yes, Clinton fired those staffers. But she's never said publicly, "Obama is a Christian. He was sworn in on the Bible. He says the pledge of allegiance with his hand on his heart. He was not raised as a Muslim. He did not attend a Muslim elementary school. Now, having said this, I would call upon Americans to realize that we do have Muslim American citizens living in this country and they shouldn't feel ashamed of their faith, not should others fear them. In terms of this election, I believe I am the best candidate and encourage all voters of all faiths to vote for me." That's how a true leader vigorously renounces and repudiates. America needs leadership.
Posted by: Karen H. California | March 3, 2008 5:59 PM
So, here is the trap and there is no way out: If you believe the nonsense that Barak is a Muslim (which he is not, and why if the Constitution does not allow for a religious test to hold office, is everyone so concerned?), and that scares you because its different, here is the trap:
1. You are either an idiot and uneducated
OR
2. A Racist White Supremacist
Now, if you wish to attack Obama on his Liberal Voting Record, that seems to be fair game.
Why not his name Hussein or the confusion with Osama bin Laden? Because the use of this tactic is designed SPECIFICALLY to cause the uneducated masses of asses and the racists in America to respond to the only thing they know - Fear.
Being patriotic and wanting the best for this country based on a candidate's actual policy stands is the way to go and to argue.
If you only think you feel that the masses will ONLY respond to these lies, then when you get Old Man John "Lets Stay in Iraq for a thousand years, I don't care" McCain and the masses of asses follow the neo-fascist GOP to the ruin of the United States, look at your self for why the US is messed up.

This whole "Hussein" and/or "Osama" thing has really gotten out of hand. There are so many people of Arabic descent in America. Not only that, but Ohio has a HUGE population of Arab-Americans. My family is from Ohio, and we all share an Arabic last name.
It's not specifically racism when someone emphasizes his name or compares him to Osama. Instead, it's a "call for national racism." It's a person asking, "Hey, are you a racist? Whew, okay me too, just checking. Oh, you were kidding? Me too, haha."
Cut the "just saying" games and insinuations. We're not idiots, and we know you are testing the waters to see if we're racist enough to vote Hillary because we're afraid of the Muslim. Learn the facts, and spread the truth. If you have to resort to lies and insinuations to get your candidate elected, they must be running a crappy campaign.
Anyways, I know this isn't common of ALL Clinton supporters, but it needs to be known that it won't be tolerated.

Hillary Clinton has dishonored her title as former First Lady and disgraced the Democratic party with her dishonorable tactics in this campaign, and completely betrayed the loyal women who have counted on her to lift them up. Her memos to her precinct captains to do what ever they could get away with, and the over 6000 voter complaints in Las Vegas, and yesterdays published memo directing staffers to control the caucuses is the tip of the iceburg. I just preferred first Edwards, then Obama. I had nothing specifically against Clinton except her war vote (and refusal to admit that vote was a mistake). But since Super Tuesday, I have come to loathe her.
The worst? Saying McCain is better than Obama. And not just the latest saying that only he and she had experience. Remember when Bill said it would be hard for he and Hillary to campaign against McCain because he was such a good guy? I believe it -- and would never EVER vote for a Clinton just because of that.

This is supposed to be newsworthy? Source from a "lawyer" threw in as if to make to tale believable! I've been volunteering for the Clinton campaign making hundreds of phone calls to Ohio and Texas, and I'm amazed at how the Obamabots have been misbehaving (scary, self-proclaimed Michelle Obama being one of them). The biased media is still trying desperately to sell such stories to make up for the loss in their subscription revenue.

The original CTV story aired on Feb 2, 2008 and mentioned both Obama and Clinton by name and stated that both had contacted the Canadian government with the intention of allaying any fears they might develop resulting from negative statements about NAFTA.
Here’s a link to the original news story: http://youtube.com/watch?v=jAJYMgX4JuU
Since the original story aired the Canadian government has issued a statement denying the allegations and stating specifically that no campaign contacted governmental officials to discuss NAFTA.
On Friday, Feb 29, the Clinton campaign began efforts to steer the news media toward the CTV story. However, it did not mention that Senator Clinton had to also deny reports that they too had contacted the Canadian government concerning NAFTA.
Also on Friday, Feb 29th, Senator Obama denied reports that that senior members of his campaign contacted Canadian officials and held a secret meeting with them to allay any fears related to his position on NAFTA.
Early Monday morning, March 3rd, following a weekend of allegations, innuendos, and outright lies by Clinton’s campaign, an unknown reporter with the Associated Press released an article accusing Obama of lying to Ohio voters about his position on NAFTA after secretly meeting with the Canadian government to allay their fears about his stance.
Throughout the weekend and Monday, the Clinton campaign continued to spin the story while alleging that Senator Obama is a liar who cannot be trusted.
Also on Monday Senator Obama acknowledged that his Senior Economic Advisor had in fact responded to an invitation from a low level government official at the Canadian Consulate in Chicago and discussed a number of issues during a so-called “introductory meeting”. However, Austan Goolsbee, one of Senator Obama’s senior campaign advisors did not speak in an official capacity and was not acting as an emissary during the brief, hour long meeting. Following the meeting the unnamed Canadian Consulate official drafted a summary report of his meeting and in his own words described what was discussed.
In essence, what actually took place was an informal meeting between two employees of political operatives. Senator Clinton and her staff saw an opportunity to cast dispersion on a political rival and ran with the story knowing that it was not true.
In the meantime, the International Herald Tribune and Canada West News Service reported that Canadian Prime Minister, Tony Harper was denying reports and accusations from his political opponents that he purposely interfered with the US Presidential Campaign in order to undermine Senator Obama’s bid for the presidency. The reports stated the reason for the Conservative Party’s interference was to throw off the general election in order to insure that John McCain, a republican would become America’s next President. The implication is that if Senator Clinton is successful in overtaking Senator Obama in the March 4th election primaries, she would earn the Democratic Party’s nomination and go on to compete against Senator McCain in the November General Election and then lose to Senator McCain. The reason underlying the allegations of political interference is that Canada has benefited from NAFTA and the Conservative Party does not want it to be changed.
On Monday evening, Factcheck.org ran a story detailing the history of the allegations and its findings that the original story aired by CTV was indeed false, baseless and unsubstantiated.

I was in Rhode Island this weekend canvassing, yes for Barack Obama. And THREE of us saw Hillary Clinton canvassers (in the same neighborhood) putting up stickers that said Black Power for Obama. Now, of course Hillary Clinton is not condoning that. But I find it curious that her campaign supporters are doing such things!

Voters are not being honest with themselves if they dont consider the past history of the Clintons. HRC worked for a communist party organization as a young lawyer intern,,,she and her husband changed the health system thereby HMOs were started....Bill was disbarred...Chelsea says you shouldnt vote for her mother because of her father,,,then why is Bill out there campaigning and making a mess out of the campaign.
Her campaign wont pay its bills on time.....she lied about a life threatening situation about sniper fire just to get sympathy,,,,she complains about always getting the first question.....complain,,,complain,,,,,complain,,,,always the victim and she doesnt answer anything correctly until she conspires with her husband and her corrupt cronies....COME ON America, if you call that experience then you deserve the disaster your going to get if she is elected into office. Karl Rove is a good example,,,his background is all negative wrapped up in scandal and the communist party. Her real experience is as a first ladies should be, conducting dinners and standing beside her man when pictures are taken...That is her real experience....will the rest of the world really respect her in office,,,,a real important concern which is on the down side. Remember what she said "Whatever it takes" that means she is willing to lie, cheat and steal to obtain votes. She doesnt display strength at all, she is the classical example of a stressed out ego maniac who knows no bounds. Voters need to wake up to the real Hilary....at least admit that she is not presidential material based on her behavior, her conduct nor her experience.

I just want to warn the McCain campaign.
Obama bloggers are very well organized and
coordinated online ... and they play dirty!
Obama supporters will post anti-McCain blogs
on pro-McCain websites. They stoop to nasty
slurs and insults. Obama bloggers will respond
to any criticism, with accusations of racism.
Obama supporters will respond to pro-McCain
blogs by somehow sending tons of spam to
the computers of McCain supporters.
Good Luck Senator McCain, I'm voting for
you in November.
