Elton can't even VOTE in the USA!!! I'm a fan of Elton John but can't Hillary find an American Superstar to put on a fund-raising concert for her??? This makes no sense to me!!!

Maybe he can't vote but he pays a heck of alot of taxes here! If we cared that much about patrotism then look harder at Obama's judgement in who he is surrounded by in that regard - his Pastor/mentor and comments by his wife.

And don't forget Obama's first mentor, Frank Marshall Davis, who was a member of the Communist party. And then there was Obama's association with the Socialist party in Chicago and actively campaigning for a Socialist candidate in Vermont. Plus hanging out with Ali Abunimah, who said that Obama told him that he was distressed at the treatment of the PLO by the US. This man is not what he wants us to believe that he is. He has even admitted that he has only a short window to run for president before people find out too many things about him that they will find fault with.

Is this going to be "Candle in the Wind" for Hillary's campaign?

Does this not violate laws against foreigners contributing to political campaigns? Even if he's being paid he's lending the cachet of his name (for what its worth) to her cause.

WP's The Sleuth reports that Elton John is playing a benefit concert for the Clinton campaign in New York on April 9th.

Citing Mr. John's previous statements in his prior endorsements, the Sleuth wonders "what he'll call Hillary" this time.

Perhaps he'll sing:

Actually Elton's very reputable Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) has is regarded as one the most reputable and worthwhile charities of its kind in the US. with one of the highest rates of using the donations for the actual cause. Through the years, the Clintons have been very involved with the EJAF. Moreover, the Clintons have introduced Elton at his 60th Birthday concert last year. Finally, Mr. John does pay a goodly amount of US Taxes from his concerts and other work here where he is a part time resident of NYC and Atlanta.

Doesn't she realize that Sir Elton's garb will surely upstage the pant suit du jour? Or will Hillary take the stage in sequins and platforms?

I don't know folks, I think she sort of looks like a "Grey Seal".

Is this even legal? Non-US citizens are not allowed to make political contributions - wouldn't this be considered a contribution?

Since no Tribune reporter will asks these questions of a Democrat, I will:

1) Since there's a $2,300 limit on campaign contributions even for Americans, doesn't Elton John's donation of services--services that I'm sure cost a lot more than $2,300--violate these campaign finance laws?
2) Since Sir Elton isn't American, how can he legally make a campaign contribution of ANY amount to Clinton's campaign?

SHe is free to do whatever she needs to do to raise money. However, I do think this is one of those Hillary divide and conquer strategies to reach out to all her gay friends. (I realize that many straight fans like Elton as well.)

Well, good for Elton, but this thing may in the can for Hillary after Pennsylvania if she does not get at least 65 percent of the vote. I wonder if he even has taken the time to research Senator Obama?

I read these comments each day hoping that there will be some educated comments, instead all I see are stupid comments like "I think she looks like a gray seal." Unless the Clinton campaign is paying Sir Elton market value for his music appearance, this would appear to violate federal election law.

The Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA) prohibits any foreign national from contributing, donating or spending funds in connection with any federal, state, or local election in the United States, either directly or indirectly. It is also unlawful to help foreign nationals violate that ban or to solicit, receive or accept contributions or donations from them. Persons who knowingly and willfully engage in these activities may be subject to fines and/or imprisonment.

And FEC Advisory Opinion 1981-51 clearly concludes that a foreign artist donating services (in this instance, a painting) to a US senate campaign comes under this rule.

Plus, the limit on contributions is $2,300. Elton's hotel bill will run more than that.
