Front Row: Clinton flub could end contest by May

The current political climate in America, and for that matter, the political process in general is inherently vile. Generally there is more bickering and posturing than anything else! I also find distasteful that the ugly specters of race and gender have been inserted into this race. I believe that this is a test for America. Are we ready to move into a new future, to embrace change and attempt to forge a brighter future with our international counterparts? Or do we resort to the negativity and hate, and rhetoric of the past, emphasized with the barrel of a rifle? God bless America.

I'd say only in the Swamp's running hand-in-hand with Obama to the nomination dreams.

While what Hillary said was stupid and makes her look the same way, it's nothing compared to the hate speech that Obama continues to refuse to disavow.

Also, at the very least Hillary can rest assured that she didn't throw her own grandmother under the bus to try and make her scandal go away.

Recovering from her sleep deprived, misspoken, rememberance of the trip to Bosnia, she mentioned that she was still the first, First Lady to visit a war zone. Hmmmm. I don't believe Hillary was the first First Lady to visit a war zone, another 'mis speak' on her part.
I think it was First Lady Pat Nixon who visited Viet Nam in 1969 with her husband, Richard.

Clinton is unfit to be president. Imagine if she succeeded in her health care bill in the 90s..then imagine that it wound up costing 20 or 30 times what she projected. Lets add that the result was so catastrophic that 4000 people died early deaths as a result. If that were the case we would conclude there is no way she could be president. Well, her only major foriegn policy decision had those exact, catastrphic results. She didnt ask if we would find Osama in Iraq, she didnt ask if invading Iraq would thwart future attacks, she didnt ask if we had an exit strategy. She voted for the war..anyone with judgement that bad does not deserve to be president of the United States of America.

Reportedly, Hillary "misspoke" more than once about her Bosnia trip. If true, then it was more than a slip of the tongue, it was an outright LIE to the American public. What else has she "misspoke" about in her quest for the presidency? Time will tell........

I think it will go all the way to the convention. You have one, defending an "uncle" of 20 years of hatred to America and whites and you have the other, blatantly lying about her abilities as commander-in-chief. These are two blunders that are not going to go away anytime soon, but will provide fodder to seek further scrutiny.

Hillary's lies are troubling to me and should be for every Democrat. I used to support her, but now I just can't.

WHAT? The Bosnia story is NOTHING compared to Obama's PROBLEM with Wright. The Wright issue will not go away, and Obama's speech only quelled his base (i.e. media) and not the voters... In fact, that speech even raised more issues about Obama.

I personally thinks that Obama hates older white women... Hillary, her demographic support, Ferraro, his grandma. So why does Obama throw grandma off the train and then vacations elsewhere than Hawaii where she lives. I understand she is also in poor health. Obama's behavior toward his grandma is disgusting.

Obama abandoned his "white" heritage and grandma to immerse himself in his "black" heritage and give his loyalty to "uncle" Wright. Yet, Obama did not want to be seen as a "black" candidate. Now I am really questioning Obama's "judgement" and maybe his sanity.

The Clintonistas have gone too far. They are damaging the future of the Nation. It is time to call out loudly for the withdrawl of Mrs. Clinton. Hope we can start here.

Jeff, I can't begin to tell you how wrong you are about this Wright nonsense. Maybe in your part of the country, your preacher speaks for you. In many parts, they do not. Fact of the matter is that the truth about America is somewhere between where ultra-conservatives think it is, and where Rev. Wright thinks it is. Jeff, how, just how ex-ac-tly did he "throw his grandmother under the bus"? I think you didn't read or listen to his speech. Whaat he said was that his grandmother, one of the greatest people in the world to him and who loved him, a little black boy,more than anything in the world, still had her own private discriminations against blacks- which taught him from childhood that the issue is deep and complex. He wants us too to understand how deep and complex it is, and not be afraid to discuss it openly and maturely, so that we can progress. It seems you can't do that. Worse, you forgive Hillary herself's many flat out lies and harp instead about what someone else, not Obama himself, said. Get real.

Clinton in Bosnia:
Hillary was actually bending over to treat the little girl for a shrapnel wound behind the shoulder. In the next photograph she is seen to roll out of that crouched position and navigate through mortar fire impacts - she circled around back of a Serbian position to take out a machine gun nest. Later she cooked everyone in camp a home-made turkey stew (her aunts recipe) - she stirred it with her rifle butt and served it into the helmets of those starving beside her. - She really is an amazing spouse of a former President. -

Hillary's race-baiting tactics will fool only the portion of the population that would vote for her regardless of her opponent. They are blind to her incessant lies and her politics of personal destruction.

I can’t say I subscribe to everything the pastor has said but I can say that it makes a heck of a difference when you hear them within the sermon.

This is a largely smear campaign. If they can’t nail the candidate, then they have to go after someone close to them to try to make the candidate look bad. Eventually, this story is going to come out.

Let's join together to move this country forward, and not backward into the divisive and hateful politics of the Bush/Clinton past.

Hillary, ready on day one, Clinton really stepped in a big pile of doo doo this time. She reaffirmed what most rational people have already known about her and her twin Big Bill, that her mouth is her best friend and own worst enemy. The very idea that this woman is telling mature adults that she did a belly flop on the tarmac and crawled, like a marine, for cover with a hail of bullets over her head, was almost believable. She had everybody saying "you go girl, you're bad as you wanna be." Just as bad she tells mature, rational adults that she made a mistake. That she misspoke because she was a jet lagged. In the words of her twin, William Jefferson "gimme a (fornicating) break, this whole pile of bull dooky is one great big fairy tale."

Part of her experience as first lady she does not tout, but was self evident, is the fact that she was as good as Big Bill at cleaning up doo doo.

It is a stunning and lifechanging moment when you first realize that a sniper is actually shooting at you -- not merely at a crowd of people. Mine came in Vietnam. Since then, I have felt a deep camaraderie with those who have heard the whistling of bullets passing nearby --or felt them impact within. I have likewise felt a deep distain for those who, for personal gain, claimed to have the experience when they did not.

Considering the list of Clinton lies and the fact she is trailing so badly with the popular vote and delegates... and considering that Clinton is doing the Republican Attack Machine's job for it... I strongly suspect that we'll be seeing Clinton forced out of the race sooner rather than later.

Stick a fork in her, her goose is done.

So, Senator Obama addresses the furor over the video showing soundbites, out of context, of Pastor Wright's most inflammatory remarks, by presenting one of the most thoughtful, intelligent speeches ever on race in America. In this speech, he explicitly disavows the distasteful comments of Pastor Wright saying that 'he hates the sin, but loves the sinner' as Mike Huckabee stated. He attacks no one (his comments about his grandmother were an example of a reality in our lives and aptly illustrated the responses of many in our society to 'the unknown black man') and does not try to turn aside from the problem posed by his relationship with Pastor Wright.

On the other hand, Hillary Clinton lied repeatedly, over several months, about her experiences in Ireland, Bosnia and Macedonia. Her response when confronted by video refuting her version of events is to first claim that she 'misspoke, then that she was tired on that one occasion, then that it was the 'first' (I counted at least 3 times on Bosnia in the video clips since December) time she misspoke in 12 years, and finally when all of those ploys fail, she tries to turn attention back to Obama and Pastor Wright. Hillary Clinton is a proven, undisputed liar over many years.

Hmmm, do I want a president that I cannot trust to tell the truth? Do I want a president who prevaricates and dissembles when confronted with unpleasant truths?

No, I want a president who confronts difficult issues head-on in an intelligent and thoughtful manner.

Time after time Americans complain that politicians are liars, frauds, self-serving, power-hungry egoists who will say anything to get elected. It never ceases to amaze me that people would really consider voting for clinton. In her case, it's not even an unknown; its a given. Those who vote for her can never again complain about politicians or how the world views ours.

Hillary Clinton did not misspeak, she outright lied. It would be nice if Obama would completely disavow Wright. The way he talks it almost seems he thinks his grandmother is more racist and hateful than his pastor.

Hilary is like the chinese. She can smile right at you, and tell you a lie. She can do, say, and give you a lot of different things, but in the end, you will realize that are all copied, or made cheaply.

HIllary says "You can't choose your family but you can choose your pastor."

Well, guess what Hillary, you can also choose your husband. And after yours had oral sex with an intern you still chose to stick by him. Does that mean you agree/condone what he did?

No. I'm sure you disagree strongly with what he did, yet you did not walk out on him. Yet, when Obama's pastor says something that Obama disagrees with, you expect him to walk out on his church.

Good news is, there is virtually no way for you to win the dem nomination. But guess what, if you do, I will probably vote for you since you embrace about 90% of the policies that Obama embraces (just without the same honesty or eloquent)

The really amazing thing about Obama's speech is that he operated on the assumption that his listeners would be capable of absorbing more than eight-second soundbites. He treated us with amazing good faith. Thankfully, polls show that most people returned his good faith and really listened to and understood him. People like Jeff who validate the status quo of politicians treating us like idiots are, thankfully, the minority.

Obama supports raising the upper wage limit that Social Security taxes are paid on. If you're poor like me that sounds good. Social Security is a huge part of what I pay every year and will need in a few years.

Hillary probably does too but I have never trusted her every since she wasn't sworn in as "co-president" and then botched our chance to fix health care.

McCain would probably increase the upper limit for how much Social Security pay the retired wealthy could recieve.

I'm probably wrong on all the above, I'm a voter, not a political analyst, but that's the impression I have on Social Security and I feel pretty much the same on other issues.

Obama = Hope.
Clinton = Distrust.
McCain = More of what got us here.

I firmly agree with the post by Sally, who strongly disagreed with the idea that Obama threw his Grandma "under the bus." Give me a break. Don't insult our intelligence. That wasn't his point. His point was that his grandmother, like most white people, is not a racist, and also loves him tremendously. Yet regardless, she still submits from time to time, to fears and stereotypes that seem almost unavoidable given our past and present social situation, including the impact of the media. He wasn't deamonizing her at all. He was talking about reality. I sometimes wonder where those who are so shocked by Wrights remarks, have lived all these years? NOt that I endorse his remarks at all, but i'm certainly not shocked by them.Nor do I assume that Obama must agree with him by association. Boy, could I be condemned by many from going to Catholic Church or being married by my uncle, a priest. Hillary Clinton's hypothetical response about how she would handle Wright is juvenile and desperate. Don't give me hypotheticals, please, esp. not during a campaign. Do we know who her preaches were? What they've said over the years? However, I don't fault Hillary as much about her remarks about being under fire. She may have exaggerated, but who knows how tramatic even just similar situations can feel to someone who's not military trained-- it's hard enough for those who are trained.

Let me see Obama said he will stand up against Bush then he votes to funding in Iraq...he said he does not have the experience to run for President then he throws his hat into the ring..he said he only got 125,000 (?) from Renzko but then it came out later there is more money...he said I was against Iraq (not a senator at the time no vote) then when asked he said I do not know how I would vote...he said I was not present when statements I was told of them
but admits later he was around when controversial statements were made...he said I will help with you Nuclear waste issue to his voters then he waters down the leg so that it has no affect at all and the nuclear plant is a big contributor and he does not take corporate funding...all lies but Obama is all about honesty and truth at least that is what he claims and built his platform on...

I just read Hillary's pastor's sermon on Easter Sunday speaking rather well of Rev. Wright in an insightful talk about race relations. I also read that Hillary stayed home on Easter so it's too bad she didn't hear his message. When reading the outrageous snippets of Wright's speeches one should make sure the entire speech is heard/read. I don't defend these outrages but there is more to his story that may be worth hearing.

Hillary Clinton – Comes across as someone who believes she is entitled to the Presidency because she is wife to Bill Clinton. But she is obviously a tough person who will fight until the last drop to get her way. Problem is she does not care about the path of destruction her fight ends in. As long as she takes the opponent down she will be happy even if she loses.

She likes to bash the media trying to mimic Obama by saying ‘Just Words’ but she should be careful because we can all see she has lied about numerous qualifications on her fictitious ‘resume’ about experience. She blatantly LIES. For instance:

Foreign Policy: Bosnia visit and Macedonia & Ireland Peace Talks

Bosnia was a flat out lie (I knew that before it was blasted in video). Clinton was never under any direct or indirect threat and was greeted by staff, children and guest without body armor or any kind.

Ireland Peace Talk negotiations. Clinton delivered a speech and helped with lunch arrangements. She had no significant role in the negotiation process. Basically delivered a speech, ate lunch and left.

Arrived the day after Macedonia negotiations yet claims to have been a part of this process also.

NAFTA: according to Hillary’s own White House documentation she played a significant role in the NAFTA discussions and promoted NAFTA as the best thing since sliced bread. Some members of congress are quoted saying she ‘shoved’ NAFTA down everyone’s throats. But…secretly behind closed doors she despised it…hmm

Wasted taxpayers $ in secret health plan negotiations (1993-1994) with handpicked members of the health care industry. Then caved into the health care lobbyist and received funds after her 1st attempt to secure universal healthcare. Now she wants to push the same plan forcing everyone to purchase into a ready made plan that will likely favor the industry and bankrupt American citizens. But…secretly behind closed doors she despised it…hmm

Iraq War supported the war from day one by going along with the general consensus instead of standing firm against a war that has practically bankrupted America and has killed 4000 American soldiers. Many of them younger than 25. Over 80, 000 Iraqi people have been killed to date.

“Just Words is not a phase that Hillary Clinton should be making fun of. Because obviously the only words she knows how to speak are lies. If we hired her based on her ‘resume’ we would have to impeach her for lying about her qualifications.

Still don't get why so many journalists write these editorials in hopes of Clinton's fall...

These two families have systematically divided and sepearated this country with their elitist political agendas.

Democrats should try to think positively if they want to win the White House in order to bring the international recognition back to the world's frontline democracy. Lots of people, usually military people, have dodged sniper fire. That doesn't make them qualified to be President of the U.S. Whether Hillary dodged it or not, is to me irrelevant.

Whether Hillary lies once in a while is also irrelevant. Why? Because all politicians lie. All of them. No honest politician would last in that game long enough to reach the possibility of becoming president. If they don't lie and cheat sufficiently, and play the good ol' boys game right, their own party will spend hard cash to run them off and see them defeated. So I think it's fair to say that all of the candidates are liars in varying degrees. The American voters have proven that they prefer people who are the best of the best at lying, but really, does lying get the job done? So why don't we judge on other criteria?

Clinton was impeached, and then acquitted. Does acquitted mean nothing in this country that likes to punish people until they moment they die for the smallest indiscretion? That being because the vast majority of us are so perfect we hurt God's eyes when He looks upon us.

Even had Clinton not been acquitted, how is it Hillary's or any wife's fault when her husband can't control his little head?

Why do people continue to berate Hillary because she didn't throw all of Bill's things out on the White House lawn and stomp over to the first lawyer and accuse him of all manner of things like any white trash would? Did it occur to anyone that since there was already a 3-ring circus in progress, Hillary decided we were already a big enough laughing stock to the rest of the world without adding to it herself? And that maybe she was then and still is trying to obey the Word of God which so many people claim to follow but know nothing about? God does not accept divorce. Read it for yourself in the New Testament of the King James Bible. It's all there. God does not appreciate or reward hate mongers or people who purposely try to make trouble. Once you're married, as promised before God, it's for better or worse.

However, someone who spends 20 years listening to hate speech, that not only runs white people down, but also runs women of all colors down, and at the pulpit in the sanctuary yells to God: "God Damn America!" is another matter.

How many people earn as much as the Pastor Wright in this country? How many live in as fine a home as he? How many people are as poor as the Obama's claim to be? Have you seen their tax returns? How many people in this country attended Harvard Law School? Those poor black folks have all of these things, yet they are whining about how terrible they have it.

The black people involved in this campaign who have all these blessings thanks to America, are berating America and yelling to God to "Damn America." What is their complaint when they are doing better than 90% of the people, regardless of color, in this country? They want us all to feel sorry for them when they are better off than most of us!

Not only did Obama listen to this swill for 20 years, but he took his two little girls to listen during their most impressionable years. Why is this better than Skin Heads? Or KKK? None of these groups are killing people anymore so far as we know, but they are still spreading hate. Why is it OK for blacks to spread hate, in their churches no less, than for a few misguided whites to do the same?

Obama seems to have used very poor judgment in hanging around the wrong people, and Pastor Wright isn't the only one. How about that real estate deal? Obama hasn't even gotten close to the White House and already they need a special counsel for this guy.

There may be white people who behave the way Obama's grandmother did, but I am not one of them, nor has anyone behaved in such a way in my presence. I find it insulting that he lumps everyone together. Isn't that one of the complaints black people have? That we judge them all by a few, and often the most questionable few?

Frankly, I'm disgusted with this whole campaign year and everything having to do with it. Will be good when it's over no matter who is the winner.

I believe that all the conversation over the speech by Obama's pastor is pretty uneventful. If you are going to crucify someone over the words of another, who does that make you think of. Who was crucified over another's words? Congrats dems! you've got your "dream" team...they've single (or double) handedly made about any and every blunder that they or we could have "dreamed" up. After 9/11, Hillary had a problem. New Yorkers were desperately focused on their own needs for protection and they were saddled with a Senator who was not one of them -- an Arkansasn or was it a Chicagoan?
Interviewed on the "Today" show one week after 9/11, she spun an elaborate yarn. The kindest thing we could say was that it was a fantasy. Or a fabrication.

She said that Chelsea was jogging around the World Trade Center on 9/11 and happened to duck into a coffee shop when the airplanes hit. She said that this move saved Chelsea's life. But Chelsea told Talk magazine that she was in a friend's apartment four miles from ground zero when the first plane hit. Her friend called her, waking her up, and told her to turn on the TV. On television, she saw the second plane hit, disproving Hillary's claim that "she heard the plane hit. She heard it. She did."

So why did Hillary make up the story about Chelsea? Most likely to was because her co-senator (and implicit rival for the voter's affection), a real New Yorker Chuck Schumer spoke of his daughter, who attended Stuyvesant High School (Dick's alma mater) located next to the TRade Center, being at real risk on 9/11. Hillary needed to make herself part of the scene.
She invented the entire story on national television, the "Today" show, and didn't blink an eye.

Her fabrication on the "Today" show was no unique foray. It is her standard M.O.. It gives us pause in evaluating all of her stories and calls into question her entire credibility.

In my opion, OB's campaign bothers me even more than HRC's. I don't see how they can unify the country from each of their destructive "flip-flop" type of actions. And I see clearly in my own eyes how much difference between OB's highly polished image vs his team's actions.

Hillary's declaration that pledged delegates are free to vote as they please amounts to her giving her permission to switch for her delegates from Ohio who are royally PO'd at her because it has now been proven via video tape and her own schedule that she lied to them about her early work in support of NAFTA.

Combine that with the new clear cut evidence of her ongoing problem with the truth and I could see a few Clinton delegate defections coming soon.

This is petty next to Obama's problem. That problem being he speaks uniting of all races and Americans, but attends a church, along with his wife and children, that teaches division of races, black supremacy and Anti-American sentiment.
And as far as Clinton and Bosnia, it does not even come close to Obama and his mentor and grandmother! Matter of fact, at least she has been to war torn Bosnia, as well as other war zones and 80 countries! How many war zones has Obama been in? Heck, how many countries has he even been to? This story just makes us recognize, again, that Obama has no experience to be President. None. So that left unity and judgement! And Obama, by his own choice, blew his "unity" and "judgement" campaign to pieces! May? Let's wait until ALL vote! It will be Clinton that is going to carry the large majority and become the nominee. And rightfully so! She cares and represents ALL Americans!

Well I think both candidates have problems. Until the Sniper lie, I supported Hillary, and to date this is the only thing that she has really done wrong in my eyes. But it is a doozy. You do not recall sniper fire with a smile on your face on st patty's day, and then laugh about it! If she ever heard a sniper round she would not smile or laugh. If the MEDIA would have done a background check last year on Obama like they shined the spotlight on Hillary for the past 16 years, the voters would have KNOWN about Rev Wright and Obama would not have been SLIGHTLY ahead at this point. Heck Edwards probably would have been in the race longer than Obama! For all ranting the Obama bloggers like to spew on Hillary, their candidate is ahead by only 1-2%! So are you so SCARED that the MEDIA will finally find something that makes Obama truly unelectable that you can't wait to see what the VOTERS in the final primaries think of Obama's electability??? If this were the INDY 500 Obama would be declared the winner on lap 300, or the Giants would have just given the Super Bowl trophy to the Patriots before the game was over! Check out the Gallup poll! For anyone that wants to bring up the Rev Wright issue, I suggest watching his entire sermon instead of the just the clip they show on tv, and then watching the entire Obama speech on race. Once I did that, I changed my mind about Obama and will now be voting for him instead of Hilary.

These Obama supporters saw his momentum is going to collapse and wanted to change the game now. Sure, it is fair question whether Hillary can win enough delegates to get the nomination. But it is equivalently important to ask whether Obama can win enough delegates to get the nomination. The truth is none of them can win enough delegates. Google is a wonderful thing. Someone makes a claim and I just look it up. McCain's "100 years" remarks had a few essential modifying phrases which are pretty essential for clarification. The Pastor Parsley thing? He made a general "thanks for intro by a man who's a spiritual leader." He'd met the man once and I really, really doubt his small staff vetted this man's sermons since it was a function staged by a local party. The moral equivalency test is just plain dishonest and illogical.

Obama's pastor's remarks about America and about white people are apparently par for the course. Do you folks really believe he got together with Farrikhan and Muammar Qaddafi to sing "God Bless America" and and discuss universal love of white folk and Jews? Some still exclaim that Wright's comments were taken out of context! What possible context could those remarks be put in to justify the lies and the hate rhetoric? McCain's 100 years thing really WAS part of a whole sentence which was part of a whole paragraph. Wright's comments were whole sentences and paragraphs.

And, BTW, Hillary isn't the only one with a problem on the Lie'O'Meter. He first said he didn't hear them; then he said maybe a few; then he gave the "equivalent of the Gettysburg address", according to his supporters, wherein he admits he did hear some stuff. I remember a similar chant for a man who was going against the establishment and was elected with a great hope that he would put human rights before US interests and promised that there would be economics for the poor. He sold out allies because they weren't nice enough and invited Islamic extremists to take their place. His total lack of action invited USSR adventurism and was directly responsible for the mess in Afganistan. When he left office, our military was literally falling apart. We didn't have sufficient naval resources to cover one ocean and our military pilots were driving planes that were older than they. We had double digit inflation; double digit unemployment; and hundreds of US embassy personnel left hostage to a regime that he helped create. He hated business and through regulation and taxes did his utmost to make the "rich" people pay. The result? Private sources had to compete with the US government for investment capitol and our GNP went below zero. Guess what folks. Government does produce ANYTHING, so there goes the jobs and taxing the so-called "rich" also means taxing the middle class and ultimately killing the golden goose. I'm sorry folks but when Obama blamed the world's problems and race relations on business, he was following the lead of his pastor. The world has tried redistribution of wealth schemes and they've failed. Miserably (USSR, China, North Korea). If you can affort more taxes, higher gas prices (and YES they would be higher), higher food prices (and YES they would be higher) and you want the same government Obama was just yelling about looking at his passport file keeping your medical records, then by all means. Vote for the left because his call for "unity" is as old as Marx, and it's a unity that will represent only one point of view and that view is the one we hear from San Francisco and Berkley. Hillary forgave Bill when he let his Johnson wander into areas it wasn't supposed to go. This was her choice. She forgave him, at least in public. But I can certainly imagine in private Bill is still paying for it. Big time I'm sure. I am a 60+ white woman and I DEEPLY resented Obama's comments. I left the church of my childhood in the 1960's because it was a racist institution, and because of my apostacy, I had to choose to essentially give up my family because I believed so strongly in civil rights. I raised my children to be color blind. I would have walked out of a church in defense of Obama's children. I'm sorry he didn't feel compelled to do the same for mine.

I have read the context wherein the racist remarks were spoken, including a post here which just makes them worse. The United States and its history is certainly imperfect because people are imperfect and the finer points of civilization didn't erupt like Athena from the head of Zeus. Reverend Wright's view of history is taken out of context and, BTW, is completely absent of any mention of someplace on this good Earth where the history is without blemish. Good grief. He went to Libya! I wonder if he took umbridge with his hosts over their ancestors role in the slave trade. I wonder if the good Reverend has ever taken up the matter of where the Arabs obtained the slaves that they sold to the Portugese and Spanish and eventually to the English and Southern States? I wonder why the Reverend Wright doesn't spend some of his outrage on the slavery that even now exists in Asia and Africa. Please provide some specifics of this charge? Please keep this in the current century, not the last one or the previous two. And if you are going to condemn US history with no reference to time or custom, I do hope you'll also discuss the various atrocities committed by other civilizations. Tell me. Have you ever visited Gettysburg? Vicksburg? Are you aware that the abolition movement was a product of white people working for justice? And have you ever considered that even in the slave holding Revolutionary War, there was one group of people that were considered such non-people that they weren't even counted as part of the population as they determined the number of Congressmen each state got? If this campaign is so suffused with "gender and racism," as one of the writers here notes, tell me - how many articles have covered racism in this campaign - then tell me how many have covered sexism? It would be great if someone could add them up - here's a guess - 10,000 to 1? What does that tell you about sexism in America? Women's history in this country is appalling and shameful and until we finally talk about that, no one, espcially the one "ism" Barack, to use the political system for his own gain.

In spite of the problems that Clinton and Obama both have, I absolutely refuse to vote for a warmonger and someone who claims to know little about the economy. Also, the presidential nominee is not a personality contest. It's all about which candidate will push the issues that are closest to our hearts. I'd like to remind everyone that both Clinton and Obama take nearly identical sides on the issues, and will put the economy first.

Replace the candidates name with the issues they espouse and here's what you get: economy/healthcare vs. economy/healthcare vs warmonger. Who will you choose?

ww2008 - Barak Obama has no interest in playing the race card, and he is not trying to play it, on the contrary. Why? - Because he knows that this is not an advantage and that this is contrary to the central point of his campaign. If we would have some kind of affirmative action program for selecting a president, yes, his race would be an advantage, but given that it is a democratic process that we follow in selecting a president, his race is huge disadvantage. We all know this, although some of us pretend this is not so. He had to fight an uphill battle every inch of the way and he did a remarkable job in defining himself as a candidate that transcends the race, an unifier. His biracial background certainly makes him uniquely qualified for this, not to speak of his honesty, decency, and intellectual brilliance.

Now, his opponents have interest in bringing up the race card because by doing this, as Clinton, Ferraro, and others did several times, they make him appear as a merely a "black candidate" or a candidate that somehow owes his success to the affirmative action (Ferraro). They do this in order to undermine one of the central themes of his candidacy, and as a dividend they also get all the bigot vote that is out there (the vote that the true democrats should denounce and reject, rather then actively pursue).

So far if you listen to Obama's responses, they where extremely well measured and he himself never used a race as a way to defend himself from these provocations. He said about Ferraro's comments that they are "wrongheaded" and personal "put down" but not racist. Similar was his good natured response to Bill Clinton's SC blunder. Some of the Obama supporters did (correctly, one would say) point out that Clinton and Ferraro comments are attempt to inject the race into the discussion, and some free-lance operatives did carry the race aspect even further, but it is unfair and far fetched to blame Obama for this. He has solid black support and he has nothing to gain from raising the race issue, which he does not. This can not be said for the other side, on the contrary.

I Misspoke

It was a treacherous night landing. Ice had formed on both of our wings, and as I looked out the port window, I could see it breaking into shards, flying off into the night sky with each near barrel roll of our C-50, highlighted by the flares shooting past on either side of the cabin, turning them into falling prisms of wildly careening light.

As the cabin lurched back and forth and the sounds of rocket fire percussed the urgent, faltering rhythm of our right engine, I unfastened my seat belt, and, finding my center of gravity, rose from my seat, moving past aides shock still in their chairs, arms locked like girders against their arm rests in terror, and walked up the center aisle to the pilot's cabin.

"How long to Kosovo"? I shouted over the screaming whine of the altimeter's alarm, marking our steep descent. The pilot turned, looked at me in shocked recognition--"How...how did you make it up here? No one has ever walked up here in these conditions before! How..."

"Never mind that!" I barked, with what I hoped was a not too stern forcefulness, combined with sufficient steel and empathy to create the appearance of a firm imperturbability. "Check the master FMC! Is it working or has it failed?"

The pilot, paused, as if in amazement at my readiness, and then himself awakening to crisis, looked to the Control Display Unit . "It's down! It's down!" he shouted. A bead of sweat began to form on his brow.

I knew what I had to do. "Get out of there!" I commanded, and pulled him from the seat, from where he crumbled to a fetal position on the floor behind me. Stepping over him, I took the chair behind the console.

"Check the Central Maintenance Computers and activate the NAV RAD for alternate radio tuning capability!" I shouted to the co-pilot. He, too, had broken down in tears, his head buried in his hands. I looked to his ID on the console. Another newbie.

Well, this was another one where I would have to go it alone.

Quickly, I tore the scarf from my neck and fashioned it into a crude lasso that could be used for EFIS/EICIS control. Catching the lever with my right hand, I activated the cabin loudspeaker with my left. I knew that the passengers had likely been gulled by the earlier soft patter of the pilot. "Brace yourself! Get ready! These aren't just words!" Then I pulled the lever back hard, sending us rocketing towards the runway.

"You'll never make it!" I knew that voice, and turned. Richardson! How did he trundle up to the cabin? "Out of here, Judas! And take that quivering beard with you!"

I could feel bolts straining against Pennsylvania steel as I pushed the '50 down, down, down to the ground below us. Suddenly, an explosion punctuated the sky--Hand held rocket fire at 3' o'clock!

I quickly performed the evasive maneuvers that I had learned for so long, and so well. My face became angry, then sad, then gentle, then intensely serious, then was finally rocked by a powerful squealing, an unnatural burst of laughter. That did it! The rocket exploded harmlessly behind us.

Now. Now it was time to take the stick and bring this shaking, careening flight, parts straining against themselves until nearly ready to burst, down to the ground. I put my arms to the twin arms of the FO-AP, set the APC, and with all of the strength remaining in me, began to push the levers down. Straining, I pushed harder. And harder. I could see the runway rising before us in the glare shield. I would have to find the remaining strength to bring it down.

Finally, as if a burst of superhuman might had been somehow delegated to me, I pushed the levers into locked position. I could hear Penn in the cabin shouting "We're landing...We're going down!" as I felt the rough shock of the landing gear snapping into place.

Sparks flew as we hit the runway, bullets ricocheting off of the cabin, one wheel touching pavement. I looked straight through the windshield--the militia, arms at the ready stood at the runway's end. The last obstacle.

I turned the craft hard, sending it hurtling sideways across the pavement. It swept the militia away in a single screaming motion that combined with the screaming that arose from the cabin, as we continued to move towards the small, makeshift terminal, where the dignitaries, negotiators, and heads of state awaited for my arrival.

I did not close my eyes. I did not let go of the wheel. I watched--as we ground to a halt just before the doors of the terminal.

I looked fore, at the dignitaries protecting themselves from the sniper fire that raged around them. I looked aft, at the passengers, shaken but safe.

We had arrived. All was good.

Just a moment...

Due to the discovery of a video of the above described occasion, I would like to make few small corrections. The flight was in fact actually a regularly scheduled chartered flight that was actually flown by the pilot and co-pilot--although the pilot did have a cold, and during the flight, I did at several times give serious attention to our flight conditions (notes indicate that I found it "a bit bumpy"). I would also note that the dinner, Salmon with Creamed Potatoes, was undercooked, and was served with a Riesling that was unusually dry. It is also true that we were met not by a militia, but by a girl's youth soccer team. However, it was necessary for me to dodge a soccer ball as team members demonstrated their often aggressive skills. No other shots were fired.

In short: I misspoke."

Obama DID NOT throw his Grandma under the bus or anywhere else. Her reactions were little different than those of many who live in rural areas of America where there is little or no diversity of population.
