Former Gov. Mike Huckabee thinks one of the candidates has a "tough climb" toward the nomination, but it's not him: it's Sen. Hillary Clinton.

"The Barack Obama phenomenon is an amazing thing to watch," Huckabee told Greta Van Susteren in an interview this afternoon on Fox News.
"He's got a full head of steam behind him. I think most of us, me included, thought there was no way anybody would beat Hillary in the Democratic primary. I'm afraid that we were all wrong."

Speaking from Irving, Texas, where he'll hold his results watch party this evening, Huckabee applauded Obama's organization, but also assigned much of Illinois' senator's successes to the 'fact' that "the media sort of gave him a great big wet kiss the whole time." The jovial former governor made no mention that his campaign, perhaps more than any other, has lived (and some say died) from similar, free media attention.

While Huckabee had little problem speaking about Clinton's climb, he said he doesn't think today's primaries or Sen. John McCain's huge delegate lead should decide the Republican nominee.
"I don't know what the big hurry is," he said. "We've got to remember we're six months away from the nominating convention."

True, but that could just be tough Texas talk: Huckabee has spent a year campaigning heavily in Texas – neighbor to Arkansas, and where Huckabee attended seminary – and a strong McCain victory there today could very well be his final rodeo in this race, aides say.

Huckabee and Clinton are THE THINGS THAT WOULDN'T GO AWAY!!! Arggghhh...

The media alone killed the candidacy of Mike Huckabee. They bear the responsibility for what is about to happen.

BY SAYING THAT HILLARY HAS A TOUGH CLIMB ISN'T SAYING HE DOESN'T (OR HASN'T HAD) A TOUGH CLIMB HIMSELF. OBAMA HAD HAD A FREE RIDE AND HIS POINT WAS OBAMA'S LACK OF CRITICISM. HUCK HAS HAD PLENTY OF CRITICISM IN THE LITTLE PRESS HE'S HAD. YOUR BIAS IS DISGUSTING AND HUCK WILL SILENCE THE PRESS TONIGHT.

Hillary has lost more in a row than Huckabee. The people have spoken and they want Obama.

Oh PULLEEEEEEEZE for the love of mike..... let us have 2 nominees at the end of today!!

It will be Huck vs Hillary for Prez. It will be like old times in Arkansas...

Jason George added the "but it's not him" part, not Huck. His point is the Obama phenom will be hard for Hillary to beat and just pointed out what even SNL realizes about press towards Obama. It's because they don't want to offend blacks by criticizing him to harshly. Terrible F.

YOU MIGHT BE AN IDIOT:-)

If you think Barack Obama with little or no experience would be better than Hillary Clinton with 35 years experience.

You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think that Obama with no experience can fix an economy on the verge of collapse better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) led the greatest economic expansion, and prosperity in American history.

You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think that Obama with no experience fighting for universal health care can get it for you better than Hillary Clinton. Who anticipated this current health care crisis back in 1993, and fought a pitched battle against overwhelming odds to get universal health care for all the American people.

You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think that Obama with no experience can manage, and get us out of two wars better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) went to war only when he was convinced that he absolutely had to. Then completed the mission in record time against a nuclear power. AND DID NOT LOSE THE LIFE OF A SINGLE AMERICAN SOLDIER. NOT ONE!

You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think that Obama with no experience saving the environment is better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) left office with the greatest amount of environmental cleanup, and protections in American history.

You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think that Obama with little or no education experience is better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) made higher education affordable for every American. And created higher job demand and starting salary's than they had ever been before or since.

You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think that Obama with no experience will be better than Hillary Clinton who spent 8 years at the right hand of President Bill Clinton. Who is already on record as one of the greatest Presidents in American history.

You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think that you can change the way Washington works with pretty speeches from Obama, rather than with the experience, and political expertise of two master politicians ON YOUR SIDE like Hillary and Bill Clinton..

You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think all those Republicans voting for Obama in the Democratic primaries, and caucuses are doing so because they think he is a stronger Democratic candidate than Hillary Clinton. :-)

Best regards

jacksmith...

Mrs. Clinton will get the nod without a doubt, Pinocchio Hussein Obama will go down with his Syrian "Godfather" Rezko. Look for testimony from an FBI mole that has Pinocchio and boy wonder Blago. meeting with the "Godfather" Rezko. She was able to buy time by covering on todays election, and the wheels will start coming off on Pinocchio with each passing day. Pass the popcorn john Everdumb !

Its not like the press has not been taking a harsh look at obama lately. The media has helped in keeping Clinton's chances alive till today after reeling from 11 straight losses most candidates like Huckabee would be been pronounced dead and buried except for someone with much of the democratic machinery behind them.

I would like to see the military recalled from Iraq immediately, and march on every major media outlet in America. The media executives, and not Al Qaeda, are the enemy that must be searched out and eliminated. Their war on America's traditions of fairness and justice cannot be tolerated any longer.

Mike Huckabee is the only candidate that wants to be President to solely to fix America.

I hope to God enough people see that and vote for Huckabee today.

Huckabee giving advice to Sen. Clinton, while he is around 1,000 delegates behind McCain, is just too funny for words.

Don B:

Which right wing nutjob site did you get THAT off of??

You're beginning to make Jerry White look sane!!!

"Huckabee has spent a year campaigning heavily in Texas – neighbor to Arkansas, and where Huckabee attended seminary – and a strong McCain victory there today could very well be his final rodeo in this race, aides say."

C'mon Texas! Please put the delusional Huckaphony out of his misery TODAY!

Hey jacksmith,

What exactly did she do in the last 35 years that counts as experience?

Huckabee enjoyed free press? The press has completely favored Obama, sometimes mentioned McCain, lampooned Hillary and aggressively labeled a 10-year governor as "baptist", "minister" and "evangelical".

Rockefeller endorsed Obama. Does that tell you who owns who? Obama is NOT change. Obama is more of the same, and worse.

I am a Huckabee supporter and volunteer who has made 1,000+ calls to Texas for Mike and, I am sad to say, the press has done it's dirty work and made the Texans feel Mike CANNOT win and so, they are voting across the lines for Hillary (saying she is weaker for McCain to go against). As I make calls, I am told time after time that Mike is their 1st choice but all the news channels say he can't possibly win and they are afraid of Obama against McCain. How very sad that people are voting their fear instead of their principles. If you prefer McCain, by all means vote for him. However, Mike Huckabee deserves your vote if you believe he is the best candidate for president. Be careful who you vote for, you may wind up with Hillary as your president!!! I will write in Mike Huckabee if he is not on the ballot in November.

Huckabee has class. I certainly hope he pulls out a big surprise win today.

The media has already voted, let's see what the people say.

I hope we have four candidates in the race after today. Why hurry?

I'm really kinda tired of all the "media killed Huckabee" claims. No offense but it was the media that propped up Huckabee in Iowa and that kept propping him up for the next few state contests. He gained huge free media publicity from all the stories and junk they did on him. They only started claiming he couldn't win after he failed to win any other states before Super Tuesday and after the delegate math on Super Tuesday made the likelihood of him winning near impossible. Think about it, McCain had close to 800+ delegates and Huckabee barely made 200, if that. With around 1200 needed to win and with McCain gaining momentum the odds of Huckabee winning were extremely slim. Yes, the media has turned on Huckabee now, but the claims of "media killing Huckabee" are false.

It wasn't taken off the internet, BobinATL

Mike Huckabee has been lambasted from day one. If it's not about his home state, it's about his accent. If it's not about his background, it's about his "country boy" charm. The media has done a hatchet job on this gentleman who has every quality that would make him a great president! I, too, will write in Mike Huckabee's name on that ballot if he's not included! I will vote for the principles/values/morals that his great man has consistently stood for..WHEN WILL AMERICA stop listening to the biased press/media and COME TO ITS SENSES!!!!

A great car salesman perhaps. Maybe the reasons people don't like or trust him are...

1. He doesn’t believe in evolution: Yep, Huckabee is a supporter of the “intelligent design” theory. He has claimed that this issue shouldn’t matter in the presidential election, but why in the world would we want a president who cannot come to objective conclusions based on present information?

2. He is a scaremonger: Huckabee has called Islamofacscism the greatest threat we ever faced. I think he needs to read a few history books and see that a few terrorists in the Middle East are hardly presenting America with greater threats than those faced in its war for independence, a civil war that tore the nation apart, a world war against Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan, and a Cold War against a nuclear-armed USSR.

3. He thinks AIDS patients need to be isolated: Huckabee once advocated isolating AIDS patients from the general public, opposed increased federal funding in the search for a cure and said homosexuality could “pose a dangerous public health risk.” When recently questioned by the media on this view, he defended his previous statements.

4. He puts rapists on the streets: As governor of Arkansas, Huckabee personally demanded the release of a convicted rapist who had been put in jail under Bill Clinton’s governorship. After the man was released on parole, he promptly raped and murdered a young woman. Huckabee has tried to play down his role in the parole of the criminal, but those involved have confirmed that Huckabee was far more involved than he now claims.

5. He claims to be a “fiscal conservative,” but he is lying: Huckabee raised taxes and spending while governor of Arkansas, revealing that he is a free-spending big-government Republican.

6. He thinks God wanted the American people to re-elect George W Bush: At the 2004 meeting of the Republican Governor’s Association, Huckabee put on a performance in which he received a cell phone call from God in with the almighty endorced George W Bush’s reelection campaign.

7. He supports torture: Huckabee will continue the Bush Administration’s policy of torturing detainees if elected president.

8. He wants to give illegal immigrants drivers’ licenses: Thought that stuff he said about being tough on immigration in the youtube video with Chuck Norris was true? You’ve been fooled.

9. He holds extremist views on abortion: Even many pro-lifers would agree that a 15 year-old mentally retarded girl who was raped by her stepfather should be able to get an abortion. As governor of Arkansas, Huckabee blocked Medicaid funding of just such an abortion.

10. He doesn’t follow the news: When the newest National Intelligence Estimate came out revealing Iran was no longer developing nuclear weapons, Huckabee was one of the last people in America to find out about it. Does this guy ever pick up a newspaper?

11. He thinks God wants him to be president: Yes, Huckabee actually said that.

12. He doesn’t want us to know the truth about his past: Huckabee had computer hard drives used during his time as governor crushed at the end of his term in order to keep the information stored there from the public and the press. What are you hiding, governor?

You might be an idiot if you think ripping off a blue collar comedy skit is the height of wit.

To Logic Prisoner (i.e. God-Hater) - you can stay bound in your own limited mental logic, but please don't vote for President this year because you can't see the bigger picture. Stay concerned about your own life & everything will be ok.

The thing is, Huckabee would make a great president. Charismatic, good-natured... you name it. But the Republican Party has a better choice, as John McCain has quite a bit of experience with politics. As for our idiot jacksmith, it is not correct to point out every way Hill is superior to Osama, erm... i mean Obama (Sorry, really am). I admit that I do not think he is not the best candidate, (Hillary is) but there is no call to talk like... (I don't know) Ann Coulter. Also, Logic Prisoner, an overt use of exaggeration isn't what this is about.

JackSmith, you are certainly the idiot. How is Prez Clinton (God Forbid) fix healthcare. Raise taxes to pre 1980 levels....if you do not recall because you are an idiot...it was over 70 percent for the highest percent. Universal Healthcare...where you wait 6 months for a procedure, because a lawyer deems that it is not important...rolls eyes. Her main tenet of her campaign is ludicrous. She has not addressed difinitively how she would pay for it. Pull out of Iraq without knowledge of the ramifications. 35 years of experience....ok genius tell me all her experience. Tea parties at the White House. She is a joke. If she would not have Clinton as a last name she would have been laughed at if she even ran for state representative. The Democrats are a joke. Go McCain. Hillary will get her just desserts tonight when Obama increases his lead.

Mike Huckabee is all class!

It took some time for some to discover it and that was what was always the weakness in his campaign. There just wasn't enough time for people to get to know this gentleman politician until it was too late.

Sure he got free media after the damage was done by marginalizing him at every debate save the last one at the Reagan library where he fought back. However, what really hurt him was what he himself characterized in his speech tonight as never being allowed by the party establishment to "belong" especially after he had given so much for the party in his Democrat controlled state of Arkansas. The alternative media or should I say the paid for Romney media and the party establishment were never interested in acquainting themselves with the virtues of this man or what was so outstanding about his accomplishments as Governor. The reason they weren't interested is due to a little class warfare of their own. They couldn't abide a candidate winning a nomination that was from Hope, Arkansas. They assumed that because a man talked about what he wanted to do for the guy on main street as sounding too much like a Democrat when in reality his compassion should have stood to shame the same, many who themselves are professing Christians. This "wall street" and now class warfare snobbery on the part of the Republican party establishment has been the continued plague and biggest complaint by many about the Republican party from the outside.

Nevertheless, Mike Huckabee WILL carry the future of the Republican party with him! The Dallas Morning News seems to be one of the few newspapers that has caught this revelation. As for the party establishment, this will be their last hurrah. In the style of Reagan, Mike Huckabee has started a new movement that may have been terminated for now but we will see emerge again in even a greater dimension.
