Mike Huckabee, former governor of Arkansas and ordained Baptist minister, has said he never “majored in math’’ – he only “majored in miracles.’’

Tonight, the math ran out. And the miracle never came.

“I was running as hard toward the bag as I could when they got me,’’ said Huckabee, likening his defeat to Sen. John McCain in the Republican presidential primaries of Texas and Ohio tonight --- and with that the GOP's presidential nomination -- to a legendary baseball story.

“I called Sen. McCain a few minutes ago,’’ Huckabee said tonight in Texas, with his wife by his side. “I extended not only my congratulations, but also my commitment to him… to do everything possible for the party.

“Sen. McCain has run an honorable campaign,’’ said Huckabee, the last serious remaining Republican rival to McCain, and now that McCain has clinched the delegates necessary for the GOP nomination it is time for the party to rally behind him.

“I’m also mindful that the real story of this campaign is going to be in the faces of those of you who are here and the millions of faces of people across this country who never made

“The apostle Paul wrote that I have fought the good fight and I have finished the race,’’ said Huckabee. “Not only have we fought the good fight and finished the race… but more importantly, we have kept the faith. I would rather lose an election than lose the principals that got me into politics in the first place.

“What a journey, a journey of a lifetime,’’ said Huckabee, quoting the prophet Isaiah. “Let me say, while many in the establishment never really believed I belonged, there were many in the country who did… It was their sacrifices… Those of the folks who have given me a voice, and I only pray that I have been able to give them a voice.

“A voice for the unborn children of this county, a voice for life,’’said Huckabee, who had built his campaign for president on the support of social conservatives, particularly evangelical Christians like himself. “For all the conservatives of this country… I also hope there are people… who I have given a voice.

“There are many battles this year that we need not just to fight – we need to win them,’’ he said. “It’s time for us to hit the reset button… We aren’t going away completely. We want to be a part of keeping the issues alive that have kept us in this race.’’

IF ANYONE DID NOT HEAR GOV. HUCKABEE'S SPEECH, THEY NEED TO. HE IS THE FUTURE OF THE GOP. HE SPOKE, NOT FROM A TELEPROMPTER, BUT FROM HIS HEART TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. IT IS MY HOPE AND AMERICAN'S HOPE, THAT THE RUNS AGAIN IN 2012.

Good riddance!!!

Attn logic prisoner...
frankly your logic escapes me. Mike Huckabee is a fine gentleman and a credit to America.

I'm shocked and disappointed that Huckabee would take money from struggling, hard-working Americans in order to fund his campaign. He said in his drop-out speech that it was..."the sacrifices of a truck driver in Michigan, of a housewife who sold her wedding ring on eBay and gave the contribution to the campaign, a janitor in Alabama who has a wife in a wheelchair who gave $20, not out of his abundance, but out of his poverty, so that our campaign could stay on the track." In a bad economy, why would someone running for President take their money to fund a campaign that was clearly going to be fruitless? What would become of the economy if selfish Huckabee were President?

An honorable campaign from an honorable man. You can hold your head up high today, Mr. Huckabee. You gave conservatives and all Americans a choice.

Hukabee is a good man, I would be proud to have him as our Presdent, Hope he run again. God Bless him and his family.

We desperately need a president who's message is hope and a president who has character defined in his words so aptly stated. He is a remarkable man whom the Lord has used and will use again and again. I feel privileged to have listened to his delivery and his heart in the by ways of this nation. Some how the very God of this Universe will bring Huckabee to the fore again. God bless Mike Huckabee and his family.

I am the janitor with the disabled wife. I gave my money freely because I believe Huckabee's campaign was far from fruitless. Nobody reached in my pockets. I gave because the sacrifice was worth every penny. Standing up for what's right is always worth it. You can't rightfully disparage Huckabee for taking money I wanted to contribute. Huckabee stood for my values and was a voice for me when other politicians didn't give a rip about a janitor and his disabled wife. Huckabee was supported by struggling, hard-working Americans like myself because he stood for the values we believed in. There is no shame in accepting the sacrifice people like my wife and I made. If anything it should make Huckabee more humble and resolved to give his very best, which I know he did and is doing now through HuckPAC.
