The Swamp

by James Oliphant

The Internet news site The Huffington Post is reporting that MSNBC personality Keith Olbermann, known for his harsh criticism of the Bush administration, plans to blast Hillary Clinton and her presidential campaign tonight, with the likely subject the failure of the campaign to dump Geraldine Ferraro for her remarks about Barack Obama.

The report, here, says this is the first time the acerbic and polysyllabic Olbermann will be taking aim at a Democrat with one of his "Special Comments." Vids of Olbermann's remarks frequently play well on YouTube.

Last night, on his program Countdown, Olbermann called Ferraro's remarks "clearly racist."

While Keith is undoubtedly a liberal and I don't agree with him on many issues he is very entertaining and a much better broadcaster that I originally gave him credit for when I first saw him after his days on ESPN.
He is usually pointed and very thorough in his commentaries and his staff does their homework in outlining the facts of an issue. I can't say the same for Fox News. I am eagerly anticipating this special comment to see what angle he takes. Is it limited to the Ferraro comment or does it veer off more into the Clinton campaigning tactics? That could be perceived as a pro-Obama stance.

Keith Olbermann is an a## hole. Ferraro's remarks are true. If you really think about what she said there are not racist comments.. This is a non-issue. That said, Ms. Power's comments was a big deal because she said what ever obama saids to the American people he doesn't mean. Stupid!! His campaign makes this to be about race and everyone knows it. Journalist is suppose to report the news not have silly comments about how they think. Keith go to your wife if you have one have her listen to your crap. Obama is a arrogrant liar. Noy everyone is not under his spell.

How can any of us trust this woman? to run a country when she can't even pick a campaign staff that doesn't make her look like a whore? Her whole campaign is racist and divisive. Barack doesn't sink to these Republic levels.

Seriously, this is news? Keith Olbermann rants and makes his face red every single day he's on TV. The former Murdoch employee has made a career out of being a windbag now that he's worn out his welcome at every sports network in the nation.

"MSNBC CAUGHT UP IN "BLACK LIKE ME"

DEAR KEITH:

Geraldine didn't say anything wrong. She made a statement of "fact." She made not a statement of color but race gender in america. It goes both ways there is a "race gender" in female america.

Geraldine is in a way saying if the entire presidential candidates were white females and one black female, America would still be in the "SPIRIT OF RACE" as I recognize her comments; exhililarated by the notion of both spectrums a 99% majority and 1% the minority. America tends to lean towards the 1% as all of American women of any DNA specifications and blacks were the 1%.

So that is what she is saying, It wasn't racial; maybe it doesn't need to be said or heard on the campaign trail. But, it was and then it was taken out of context and the media spin extended to you america "THE WILLING SUSPENSION OF DISBELIEF"

Barrack is a strong man, and rhetorical comments like that from a "friend" should not be inflammed and put in the spectrum of "racial division" yet more of racial conversations of reality in american society.

So Keith as you enjoy your "FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION" when it comes to the "SPIRIT OF RACE" if all of your colleagues were black, america too would look to you as the 1%, remember your early ratings prior to September 11th.

I respect Keith Olbermann and l think it is time for someone to call Hilary tactics to win at all cost even if it means divide everybody according to race, gender and class.

This is what is wrong with America and we must stop it.

I am a white female and l voted for Barack not because he is black but because he is authentic, down to earth, truthworthy and he will be the only person to progress and healed this nation.

Keith loves Obama, so its not surprising. The media just cannot wait to tear down a woman.

I like Keith and his show. I will be sure to watch tonight. The thing is that Keith goes after those who live in glass houses throwing rocks at others and .. and boy does Hillary live in a thin glass house!!

John "Hussein" E:

A new record!! The nutjobs came out on post #4!!

Jan17:

Keith is not a journalist. Never says that he is one. Therefore, he has the right to comment on the news any way he wants.

Jeff:

Seems like the country disagrees with you. He is always 2nd in the ratings to O'Reilly on a network that is carried on fewer networks than Bill is.

I am an Italian American female who voted for Barack Obama. I have no doubt that the Clintons are "tacitly" approving Geraldine Ferraro's comments.

Let's not forget the emphasis on Barack's middle name (Hussein), the darkening of his face, etc.

I still admire Gerry Ferraro and I still plan on voting for Barack Obama if he faces John McCain.

I also think some of what Gerry said is true - can you imagine the headlines in the NY Post if Gerry Ferraro had ties to Tony Rezko??????????? That woman was persecuted by the NY Post.

Perhaps Obama has gotten a free pass from the media because he is African-American. Let me add that I do think Italian Americans who run for office are scrutinized more than candiates of other backgrounds.

I am very proud of my heritage.

Olbermann is a wiener. Phonies like him belong on MSNBC... maybe even Fox News.

I have taken countdown off my dvr list. His nightly man crush on obama and Clinton bashing got to be more than I could take. With half the dems. supporting Hillary he is likely to lose half his viewers.

To Jan17,

Ferraro's remarks are true? Obama's campaign is being racist?

I'm sure you would have no problem admitting then, that Hillary is only doing well because she is a woman, right? After all, her foreign policy experience has been exposed for what it is...crap, nothing, nada.

And I'm sure the Obama campaign took some of his Kenyan, muslim, voodoo magic and made Ferraro say what she did. Even back in 1988 when she said "If Jesse Jackson were not black, he would not be in the race." - Ferraro Washington Post April 15th 1988.

Yes, yes, yes you are so right on the money. It's Barack's fault. He made her say those things AND he told Hillary not to reject or denounce those remarks because he wanted to see her for the person that she is.

Seems to me, you're a little ticked off that the Obama campaign said it like it is, "She will do anything and say anything to get elected."

The next time you want to talk about being under someone's "spell", look at the crap your precious Hillary is doing before you let random comments fly out of your blow-hole.

Anita -- In your post above, you mention "Barack the magic negro" this was actually a label placed on Barack by a Democrat and Rush made fun of it because no one ever considered it racist. Helps to know the facts.

I wish more Dem leaders would reject and denounce Ferraro's ravings about how being a black man gives one a leg up in life, and everyone is picking on her because she's white. It's embarrassing, as is the claim that she has no association with the Clinton campaign.

Leading Dems appear to be afraid of antagonizing the racist wing of the party. Guess what? They aren't coming along in the general. Might as well have your Clinton explosion now with more than half a year to mend fences, rather than in late July.

This racism is inexcusable.

They have already looked into the supposed "face darkening" and found that none was ever done. Also, what is the big deal about using his middle name. If he is ashamed of it, then he should change it. I am just curious why all the ranting, raving and name calling are being done by Obama supporters. Oh, and just for the record when you enter a race it is to win and most people who want to win try to do their utmost to win which is why it is called a "Race"!

Dare? ok, I dare you to show me statistical evidence that says that Obama is not getting almost all the black vote, anywhere in this country. Were he not black, this would not be happening among the AA community. Having said that, Ferraro's comments are justified. Without the black vote, he is like John Edwards, not in this race.

Mrs. Jesus?? this blasphemy is inexcusable. I think blasphemy trumps racism any day.

Olbermann is a wiener. Phonies like him belong on MSNBC... maybe even Fox News.

Posted by: Steve S | March 12, 2008 2:56 PM

Special Steve,

It's spelled W E I N E R, not wiener.

When you nutty wingnuts are going to insult someone at least try to get the spelling right beforehand, OK?

I forgot... everyone that disagrees with John E and Bobin are crazed, idiotic, fringe lunatics. Why hasn't this standard of intelligence been brought to our attention sooner?!?!?! I feel so out of touch! Both of them should be right up there with David Hume, Adam Smith, and Plato when it comes setting the standard for intellectual innovation! This poor chickenhawk will now subscribe to whatever they say because I want to be more dominant and respected. THANK YOU, boys!!!

Geraldine Ferraro has a problem every time she confronts a black man!!

A Ferraro flashback

"If Jesse Jackson were not black, he wouldn't be in the race," she said.

Really. The cite is an April 15, 1988 Washington Post story (byline: Howard Kurtz), available only on Nexis.

Here's the full context:

Placid of demeanor but pointed in his rhetoric, Jackson struck out repeatedly today against those who suggest his race has been an asset in the campaign. President Reagan suggested Tuesday that people don't ask Jackson tough questions because of his race. And former representative Geraldine A. Ferraro (D-N.Y.) said Wednesday that because of his "radical" views, "if Jesse Jackson were not black, he wouldn't be in the race."

Asked about this at a campaign stop in Buffalo, Jackson at first seemed ready to pounce fiercely on his critics. But then he stopped, took a breath, and said quietly, "Millions of Americans have a point of view different from" Ferraro's.

Discussing the same point in Washington, Jackson said, "We campaigned across the South . . . without a single catcall or boo. It was not until we got North to New York that we began to hear this from Koch, President Reagan and then Mrs. Ferraro . . . . Some people are making hysteria while I'm making history."

John E... Your parents must have spelled it (wiener) wrong on your birth certificate. Check yourself please. I refuse to get in an argument over how to spell wiener, but I am correct according to spell checker and other language authorities. But I'll let you spell wiener however you like.

Just remember: i before e, except after c. God bless our public school system.

Prcatice what you preach MSNBC. Hire more minorities to do prime time shows!!!

There is no doubt that Obama has gotten a free pass from the main stream media and today he is still receiving that pass because he is African American. The democratic race is race motivated...Look at the past few weeks. Primary results don't lye...African American and whites are divided and as the days go on the divide gets greater. Regardless who played the card, it was played and it only goes to show that when it comes to race, this country is still divided. Races will determine the Democratic Party nomination....WATCH

I have lost all respect for MSNBC during this race (wait, was that racist too). They have no credibility. This man love thing they have with Obama is out of control.

Just remember: i before e, except after c. God bless our public school system.

Now yall be real careful about who you want answering that phone at 3am!!! Please dont make it a Clinton! Forget RACE, what about MORALITY!!!!

Mrs. Jesus?? this blasphemy is inexcusable. I think blasphemy trumps racism any day.

Posted by: Steve | March 12, 2008 3:18 PM

Jesus is a very common Hispanic name. Everyone who has that name is not a blaspemer.

Steve:

You obviously do not read what Johnny D., Brucie, Paulo and Jerry White say about me, John E, and the rest of the liberals here.

They make what we say look tame. We have been called the "Loony Left", traitors, communists, socialists and every other name in the book.

Speaking of Johnny D, where is the mime today?

Despite the assertions of many, here and elsewhere, Ferraro's claim that Obama wouldn't be where he is in the campaign isn't a "fact." It's an opinion.

Otherwise, offer the "proof" demonstrating the truth of the fact claim.

The racism is that Ferraro is demeaning and diminishing Obama's success as an-in-the-end-decisive factor being his race. That treats not just Obama but all blacks as being suspect in their accomplishments merely based on race. That's prejudice, racism; pre-judging one based not on personal traits and behavior, but an impersonal identity trait.

It's an indictment that calls into question the accomplishments of all African-Americns. What about other races/ethincities? Gender?

Olbermann is so self important. The only guy I like there at MSNBC is Chris.

Use common sense, people!

Being a black presidential candidate is like being a short basketball player. You don't see too many of them. They usually don't get very far. Now imagine the next Michael Jordan of basketball was 5'5"... what are the chances that people would accuse that guy of having an edge for being short? It would be the first time in history. It would be absurd.

But there is a nugget of truth to Ferraro's statement: Obama is in this extraordinary position DESPITE his background, but the fact that he has been able to overcome such steep odds has heightened his appeal with many people.

Until big mouth Keith goes after Obama for:

Tony Rezko
Exelon
Swindling Poor People in Illinois
Fraudelent lies and comments
Lande deals
and God know what else

Keith Obermenn needs to SHUT UP!

Hillary Clinton:

I am a 52 year old white woman, and I am deeply offended by your tepid response to Geraldine Ferraro’s blatantly racist statements regarding Barack Obama.

Instead of taking the opportunity to show that women are strong and insist on equality and freedom, you showed that you share Ms. Ferraro’s cowardly, backwards and Jurassic beliefs on this subject. How dare someone in your camp say that a person would be considered for the highest office in the land because they are black or a woman! How dare you wink at her outrageous comments by refusing to immediately and emphatically denounce them!

You have given all women in the United States and in fact this whole country a black eye. Shame on you, Hillary!!! By aligning yourself with, and asking for support from people who share Ms. Ferraro’s opinions, you have lost all support from people who find them abhorrent as I do.

Shorter Steve S.:

Olbermann is a resident of Vienna.

I hope Keith hits her hard tonight. She can't win and she's only ruining her already tattered reputation. As for Ferraro, why do you think Mondale picked you, you nit wit? Shut up already. Sheesh.

To be honest, the thing that the media goes after the most harshly is a statement of truth.

Does anyone believe that Barrack Obama would be getting 90-92 percent of the African American vote if he was not an African American?

It is not likely. And if he were getting the more historically typical split of the black vote that has occured in the past when non two non African American candidates were running for the nomination, even if he was getting a comparable percentage of the African American vote as Clinton is getting among the Latino vote, the delegate count and popular vote would look rather different than it does right now.

When it is pointed out that blacks are voting for Obama, ten to one, it is called "racist" but when someone states that Clinton has a lot of support among woman or older voters, no one is screaming "sexism" or age discrimination.

I am very disappointed in Olbermann.

The word is intolerant, not racist. And don't forget who the party of intolerance is. Tolerance only works when those around you agree with you. As we have just witnessed, Ferraro and I assume Hillary (since she will not fire Ferraro) are both intolerant of Obama as a man, as a Black man, as a politician, etc.

“Mrs. Jesus?? this blasphemy is inexcusable. I think blasphemy trumps racism any day.”

Posted by: Steve | March 12, 2008 3:18 PM

Steve, how do you know she’s being blasphemous? How do you know her husband isn’t named Jesus? In case you didn’t know it, Jesus is a fairly common name among men of certain cultural and ethnic groups. Thus, you are jumping through some questionable intellectual hoops to come to the conclusion, in the first place, that she is making a reference to Jesus of Nazareth, the Messiah.

There is nothing wrong with using the name Jesus. Western society did not retire the name from use simply because it is the name of our savior. It is a name bestowed as an honor by the parents who give it.

In the second place, even if she is referring to Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ, doesn’t the New Testament, itself, refer to the church as the Bride of Christ? Is it not the practice of Roman Catholic Nuns to become Brides of Christ? They DO wear wedding rings, you know.

Every time I see her use this epithet, I just shrug and think that it might actually be something either cultural or religious that prompts her to use this name. Blasphemy, on the other hand, implies an intent to demean or speak evil of God. On its face, her use of Ms. Jesus doesn’t meet that definition. I am, at least, willing to give her the benefit of the doubt about it. You should not judge people until you know why things are done. Or, as Jesus Christ of Nazareth once said, “Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.” (John 7:24.)

Keith is the man... only TV news person I like.

Ithaca is Gorgeous Keith!!!

-I'm a 25 year old Bostonian and I follow the news... be afraid you bitter baby boomers

It's obvious she got where she is because she is a woman. ;-)

Like she said, the easiest thing in the world is to run as a Black man named Barack Obama. ;-)

Oh please!!!!! This is just another poor attempt to pretend the Obama mania is only black based in attempt to turn off voters who will see blacks as being extremely biased therefore Obama becomes an Al Sharpton whom many blacks themselves dislike. The facts are Barack is the breath of fresh air.The new generation has been taught by many that Racism is wrong,so they see Obamas face and they see a human being. They see these kind of faces everyday at school,on the street especially within the inner city. These older extreme conservative idiots are saying any and everything in the most subtle ways that insinuate racism or some sort of possible subconscious unawareness of Racism. The Obama mania is world-wide ladies and gentle men.The worldnews has already conducted the search. If th election were held today some 75 percent(some studies say higher) of this entire World including the U.S is in suoport of Obama being the next president. He is popular among all.

It's funny that it seems that racism is always thought to be targeted to just African Americans. I am a White female and I feel like I am a minority it the United States. I don't feel like African Americans are the minority anymore and haven't been for many years. I feel like I'm hated because I'm white. I am not trying to cause an uproar or be funny. I've never been more serious about my thoughts.

Keith wants to baby in the corner! What a pig!

The comments by Ferraro have been repudiated by Hillary Clinton.

Olbermann, never to be confused with Edward R. Murrow, doesn't need much excuse to trash Clinton. He and the gang at MSNBC having been taking a chain saw to Hillary since day one.

David Shuster refers to Chelsea as being "pimped". He is still on the job unlike Don Imus. Enough said.

To Darrell,

Wow! Why are you so mad Darrell? Still under that phony spell? GF comments are true so get over it. You said It Seems to you that I'm a little ticked off that the Obama campaign said it like it is?Please.... he is no Dr. Phil..Darrell your man is a phony and a liar. Just like his wifey.. If he loses is she really for the first time of her adult life be proud of america? So, Darrell you blow it out your a##. Vote for someone that can do good for the country not someone because of thier skin color or gender. Look at the African Americans are voting 90 to 99% for him because he is african american facts are facts...

To John Hussein E

I am sure you adopted his middle name..Here we go again copycat.Obama whole campaign is about that. Your right Keith is not a journalist he has to be a professional for that. He is Arrogant and obnoxious. MSNBC should just come out of the closet and endorse him already. I also have the right to say anything I want too. Do't be so sensative.

but sir, you must listen to your friend..
...'but you're blech'

John and Bobin, you guys seem to think I'm an O'Reilly fan. I'm not. I can't stand him or Olbermann.

Bobin, I never said Olbermann wasn't popular, either. I said he was a windbag. Most windbags are quite popular because people tune in to see what they'll say next (just look at Howard Stern and Don Cherry).

Anyway, I have no stake in whether or not what he said is right. I just find it odd that one of his commentaries warrants a swamp post. He gets all red in the face defending Obama every time I've ever seen that show. I just can't understand why that's news.

p.s. John, per our earlier discussion I don't know if any woman is worth $4,000 but she's certainly in the "possibly" category.

Newsflash for Geraldine Ferraro. Barack Obama is white. Half white. She's right when she says she's not a racist. She's a deep seated racist.

I STOPPED WATCHING Keith after he became so pro Obama. He and Matthews are like a couple of maddogs who can't wait to nibble at Ms. Clinton. They continue to awe at Obama who is still an empty suit with no backbone. Keith isn't fair anymore. MSNBC keeps the race thing stirred.

I hope Keith notes that 9% of Republicans followed Lmbaugh's advice and voted for Hillary to squeeze her over the top in Texas. Her sly support of McCain should she lose to Obama indicates she puts her own interests before the party and the country.

I am sure that Hillary is shaking in her comfortable shoes...

MSNBC?? isn't that what they put in Chinese food?

to Barack - please reinstate Samantha Power back into your campaign, since your competitor refuses to live by the same standands she is demanding of your campaign, and because Power didn't say anything wrong or untruthful and because it only dealt in an individual's personality and not race. In fact what she said was a compliment compared to how the rest of us feel about your competitor.

Is Olbermann okay?
Lately he has been foaming at the mouth and getting all red-faced. Rabies?
Some other disorder?
No thanks.

susan, you said:
Oh, and just for the record when you enter a race it is to win and most people who want to win try to do their utmost to win which is why it is called a "Race"!

--actually, when these tactics are involved it's called a "fight" and that is the problem. Hillary is fighting and fighting dirty. All she had to do was ask the woman to step down from her finance team. that is all. and she couldn't/wouldn't do it. The only reason she wouldn't do it is so she can play the "reverse discrimination" card in PA. That is what is truly disgusting about it.

I hate Hillary but when I first heard Ferraro's comments I just assumed her campaign would come out and forcefully reject/denouce them and tell us she was resigning. I can't believe that I gave her the benefit of the doubt for even a moment.

Hillary supporters, no one is saying you support Hillary because you are racist. But most of us are saying that it's because you are plain ol' dumb.

Ferraro is just a frustrated old biddy who is bitter that her "fifteen minutes of fame" was twenty-four years ago. Does she honestly believe that her being on the '84 ticket was anything BUT an affirmative action ploy? If Mondale would have had a more credible running mate, he would have won more than one state. The fact that Hillary has not completely disavowed Ferraro and removed her from her campaign speaks volumes about Hillary's "progressive" attitudes - she's nothing but a self-absorbed, power-made, grasping cretin.

am sure you adopted his middle name..Here we go again copycat.Obama whole campaign is about that. Your right Keith is not a journalist he has to be a professional for that. How does it feel to be getting your arse handed to you by a tree hugging, latte sipping liberal like me?

For those of you who think it is such a political jackpot to be African American and run for high office in the US, I ask you to take a look at my poodunk little state of Maine.

Maine has elected as many women to the US Senate as all fifty states have elected African-American men same US Senate since reconstruction.

And you can look it up.

p.s. John, per our earlier discussion I don't know if any woman is worth $4,000 but she's certainly in the "possibly" category.

Yep, politicians who are going to fool should always abide by one simple rule, it's called the Bill Clinton/Larry Craig rule.

If you're going to fool around don't get caught with a boy, a man or a Monica look-alike.

At least Spitzer stuck to the "hot-code", it could have been worse for him.

Racism is an asset to Obama's campaign. If any white person says something negative about Obama, HE or SHE better choose their words carefully or be label a Racist!!

Obama is the one who needs to be reminded he's half white. He is the one who has been trying to mold himself into a 100% black man. He is a racist. I think Ms. Ferraro's comments were accurate---not racist. To ignore the true of her remarks is like trying to ignore the 900 pound gorilla in the room. Just because you don't talk about it doesn't mean it isn't there. And it doesn't mean it's going away.

I heard Ms. Ferraro clarify that she is certain that she was selected to run as VP because she is a woman. That fact that Senator Obama is black is certainly part of his appeal. And it's a truism that he has received much less critical press. Is that because those who do criticize Senator Obama are deemed racists, and the media doesn't want that charge hanging over its head. Gee, why don't we ask Ms. Ferraro what criticizing Senator Obama has gotten her....

If all of you thing that what Geraldine Ferraro said was no big deal, then the same can be said about what Samantha Powers said, NO BIG DEAL....
Hillary and her cronies are always the first to start slinging the mud and she and her campaign advisor's are screwing it up for the Democratic nominee, who the popular vote is saying Obama and who I will be voting for proudly.

She needs to quit the race, get behind Obama as well as Howard Dean and the DNC and start campaigning against McCain. Her campaign is extremely negative and she is desperate. I have lost alot of respect for her.

Maybe she could be the new Governor of New York instead....

Hillary supporters, no one is saying you support Hillary because you are racist. But most of us are saying that it's because you are plain ol' dumb.

These are sad days for the Democratic party. Just like you can't criticize Israel without being called anti-semitic, the current law is that you can't even discuss race without being called a racist. I blame this on Obama, who has run the most underhanded and dishonest campaign I have ever seen a Dem run.
What the Clintons have done for race relations in this country deserve respect and thanks. Instead, Obama has slimed them unfairly and unjustly, and he did that from day one. I have yet to hear Barack go on the offense against Bush and the GOP like he has against Hillary. Instead, I have seen him praise Reagan.
So who's just plain ol' dumb?

I'm a 57 year old white guy and like what Obama has to say, how he conducts himself and the consistency of his message. I believe he is 47 and that is enough experience from public office and real life for me. The way he has managed his campaign speaks volumes for the way he will manage our country. Hillary squandered her war chest on donuts and pizza and will most likely run our govenment that way. She changes her views based on the primary she is in, so I have no idea what she really stands for. If Obama was a white woman, I would still give him my support. Its his message, not race or gender and not the dirty Hillary politics.
Dean

Obviously, this is something that Geraldine F., aka THE BIGGEST LOSER, the VP candidate who lost 49 of the 50 states, who was chosen with nothing on her resume, who never campaigned or faced public scrutiny before being “exalted” at the convention , who never won a single state or a single delegate, who was boosted to the front of the line because she was a white woman, never had. Unfortunately, these continued efforts to marginalize Obama as the "blacks only" candidate, in spite of his winning in Utah and Wyoming, as well as Virginia and Missouri, are not about black votes, but an effort to suppress the votes of white voters who are considering Obama.

Can any Obama supporter out there really say with a straight face that Keith is not in the tank for Obama? Or any of the other so-called reporters at MSNBC? Being Black may not necessarily be an asset for him politically as Ferraro suggested, but the fact is the press is clearly in love with Obama and has pretty much given him a free pass throughout this campaign. While I'm writing this, I just heard Jack Cafferty at CNN say about Obama, "He is smooth, isn't he?" Also, Hillary has already denounced the comments yesterday, how can you possibly say she's taken too long to act on the comments. This is OBAMA being the poitician he really is. What a let-down it's going to be for you people who support him when you finally realize that he's just another politician and the "change" he's talking about is "just words" if you don't know how to get it done. How can you elect somebody if you can't even name any of his major legislative accomplishments? One speech is what he points to. A speech he made as a rep of the most liberal district in IL. What courage did it really take? His US Senate voting record on this subject is almost identical to Hillary's. What has he really done to stop the war. Has he attended any rallies...has he held any hearings? Wake up sheep.

Does anyone watch this moron on PMSNBC?

He sucked on ESPN, he sucks on MSNBC, and he is the reason I won't watch Sunday night football on NBC. Absolute moron

KO scares you, doesn't he Spelling Champ?

The reason you don't get his show on your little Wingnut TV set is because his show has an IQ jamming signal, obviously your IQ doesn't rise to the level that would give you access.

Just stick with Bill Orally and Seany Hannity, that way you won't have to struggle with all the big sounding words.

Maybe Keith Olbermann and a lot of others at MSNBC ARE "in love" with Barack Obama. If they are, it's probably for the same reaon I'm "in love" with him (I'm 61 and white, with a son in the Army; three tours in Iraq.)
And I'd be just as "in love" if he was brown, yellow, or white!
After all these years of Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rove - and yes - Bill and Hillary, I'd be "in love" with ANYONE so elequently articulating a new way of dealing with the enormous problems facing this nation. ANYONE not beholden to the big money elites.
It has nothing to do with race.
With respect to good ol' Bill, "It's the MESSAGE, Stupid!"

Very good special comment tonight on KO.

Hillary: Quit now. We're begging. There are some people who don't hate you, but that number is shrinking fast.

Most people are not racist, but most people are caught in the world of political correctness. Ferraro notes that Obama has his lead because of 90% support from Black voters (a statistical fact) and the media blows it out of proportion like it does with anything that goes against the PC norms. Her comment isn't racist. It is pointing out a racial reality. Obama has connected with lots of folks of all color and for that he should be commended. But 9 out 10 Blacks? Especially for him essentially being a no-name before the campaign vs. a positive 20 year history with the Clintons and Blacks? This points to a real race effect. Why is pointing this out racist? It isn't. But people are so sensitive, especially in camp Obama, that any race comment will be construed negatively. I have watched Olbermann since he first started Countdown. I can forgive his exaggerations toward Republicans because they typically deserve it. But his assault on Clinton is unjustifiable. He should be ashamed of himself. If he wants to point out some issues, fine. But HE and talking heads like him cause division when they twist and magnify everything. I now skip Olbermann and tune into Dan Abrams becuase he at least calls both camps on their cheapshots and blunders and such. And some news for Obama supporters. You better believe you want Ferraro's support if he becomes the nominee. If she sours on him, so will tons of older white women. So calm yourselves. I cannot believe how much divisive talk I hear from Obama supporters on these comment sections. You all have no right to claim 'new' politics with such talk. Please grow up and behave reasonably. I have never been so embarrassed to be a Democrat everytime I read through comments after an article. If we don't come together, ALL this talk will be moot when McCain slides in to office because the Democrats acted like a bunch of rowdy whiny kids.

As usual Keith Olbermann was right on. The Clinton campaign has been desperate and appears to care little about the Democratic Party, but rather selfishly only about Hillary. Apparently it is O.K. with Senator Clinton that McCain be able to name several new Supreme Court justices. I never thought Hillary could be such a terrible and devisive candidate.

Why is Obama so angry about this?

Why do Obama's supporters treat him like he's the Messiah and can't be criticized?

Ferraro's remarks are correct, just ask President Al Sharpton. Sharpton had an easier time than Obama though cause he is blacker. I and all white males are compelled to vote for every black man that runs. Since there are so few white women voters in the Democratic party only a black man has a chance. That is why the government is 100% black male politicians. Just look around you the evidence is in front of you! Why can't you see Jerry is telling the truth!

Olbermann, on his Countdown show, has been on a relentless Hillary bashing campaign going on 4 weeks now . He became nearly apoplectic with anger on the night she won Ohio, TX and RI. He kept sputtering that she should get out of the race, what good was this doing the party etc etc. He looked like he wanted to punch Chris Matthews when Matthews said that this was the way Democracy worked and this is the way the process should play out.

He is CLEARLY for Obama, which is fine, he just needs to come out and preface every new Countdown Show with that. Because he dosen't do that he ends up looking like he's part of the Obama spin machine.

I'll fully admit here that I'm a Liberal... but the sort of Liberal that Olbermann dosen't like. I'm not politically correct. I'm a realist about things. 91% of all blacks dems voted for Obama. That's a racial bias and it's not ok. I won't tolerate the excuse that "African Americans are just proud of one of their own". Can you imagine if Hillary got 91% of all the white vote and the excuse used was "White Americans are just proud of one of their own". Is Obama getting a pass from much of the media because of his skin color? Of course. But you're not suppose to say it publicly or you will be branded a racist. If he was a white man named Barry O'Brien with the same experience he would be relentlessly quizzed in every debate about it. Instead it's been left to the Clinton campaign to point out his shortcomings and every time they do Olbermann trashes Clinton and any of her campaign advisors that dare open their mouth obout Obama.

Let's see: I believe that Mrs Ferraro said,
“If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position,”

This is nonsense. If a 46 year old white man had graduated with honors from Columbia University, and then was chosen by his peers to be
Editor of the Harvard
Law Review, and then was elected by the citizens of Illinois
first to be a State Senator and then to the US Senate- and if he was half as eloquent as Barack- he would be a favorite in this Presidential campaign.
After all, exactly what did a "white man" named George W Bush have going for him that was so special- other than money from Daddy and the oil rich Saudis?
To say that Obama has an advantage because he is black is not racist- it is ridiculous, false, and stupid. Patently, it is a remark made by a scorned grumpy old person who is seeking attention, and should be treated as such.
With friends like her, the Democratic Party does not need any enemies.

He Is the worse person in world

John Weiner E...You can't declare a beatdown just because you can't spell wiener. Get a life... and another hobby!! This one ain't working so well for ya.

"Does anyone believe that Barrack Obama would be getting 90-92 percent of the African American vote if he was not an African American?"

This is one of the stupidest statements that I have ever heard. And I get angry every time I read it from the various comments posted in blogs. The reason?

Bill Clinton got 80-90% of the African American vote, John Kerry same, going back to the time we got the right to vote, some WHITE person got 80-90% of the vote. African American have been one of the, not THE most loyal group to the Democratic party and to me to have them turn on us simply because we support an African American who is accomplished and qualified is wrong on so many levels.

The Clintons started this election with 80% of the AA vote and it wasn't until S. Carolina when Bill tried to belittle Obama that they lost it. Sure they would have probably lost a certain amount once we got to know more about Obama but not in the numbers they are now. Geraldine Farraro's statements are demeaning even if they were not meant to be racists and Hillary should not only have immediately "denounced" and "rejected" them, she should have put a stop to Ms. Farraro's continued broadcast of them.

So calm yourselves. I cannot believe how much divisive talk I hear from Obama supporters on these comment sections.

I hear you. I want a Democratic nominee that will attack the GOP, not another Democrat. I want someone who will champion progressive ideas, not Ronald Reagan's ideas. I also want a candidate who can win Texas and Ohio, two red states that can make or break the election.

KEITH FROM MSNBC IS RIGHT!!

KEITH OLBERMANN: Finally, as promised, a special comment on the presidential campaign of the junior senator from New York. By way of necessary preface, President and Senator Clinton and the senator's mother and the senator's brother were of immeasurable support to me at the moments when these very commentaries were the focus of the most surprise, the most uncertainty and the most anger. My gratitude to them is unbiding.

Also, I am not here endorsing Senator Obama`s nomination, nor suggesting in it is inevitable. Thus I have fought with myself over whether or not to say anything. Events insist.

Senator, as it has reached its apex in their tone deaf, arrogant and insensitive reaction to the remarks of Geraldine Ferraro, your own advisers are slowly killing your chances to become president. Senator, their words and your own are now slowly killing the chances for any Democrat to become president. In your tepid response to this Ferraro disaster, you may sincerely think you disenthralling an enchanted media and righting an unfair advance bestowed on Senator Obama. You may think the matter has closed with Representative Ferraro's bitter, almost threatening resignation letter.

But, in fact, senator, you are now campaigning as if Barack Obama were the Democrat and you were the Republican. As Shakespeare wrote, senator, "that way madness lies." You have missed a critical opportunity to do what was right. No matter what Miss Ferraro now claims, no one took her comments out of context. She had made them on at least there separate occasions, then twice more on television this morning. Just hours ago, on "NBC Nightly News," she denied she had made the remark in an interview, only at a paid political speech.

In fact, the first time she spoke them was 10 days before that California newspaper published them, not in a speech, but in a radio interview. On February 26, quoting, "if Barack Obama were a white man, would we be talking about this as a potential real problem for Hillary. If he were a woman of any color, would he be in this position that he's in? Absolutely not."

The content was inescapable. Two minutes earlier, a member of Senator Clinton's finance committee, one of her Hill-Raisers had bemoaned the change in allegiance by super delegate John Lewis from Clinton to Obama and also the endorsement of Obama by Senator Dodd; "I look at these guys doing it," she had said, "and I have to tell you, it`s the guys sticking together."

A minute after the color remark, she was describing herself as having been chosen for the 1984 Democratic ticket purely as a woman politician, purely to make history. She was, in turn, making a blind accusation of sexism and dismissing Senator Obama`s candidacy as nothing more than some equal opportunity stunt.

The next day, she repeated her comments and a reporter from the newspaper in Torrence, California heard them; "If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. If he was a woman of any color, he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is and the country is caught up in the concept."

And when this despicable statement, ugly in its overtones, laughable in its week grip of the facts, and moronic in the historical context, when it floats outward from the Clinton campaign like a poison cloud, what do the advisers have their candidate do? Do they have Senator Clinton herself compare the remark to Al Campanis (ph) talking on "Nightline" on Jackie Robinson Day about how blacks lack the necessities to become baseball executives, while she points out that Barack Obama has not gotten his 1600 delegates as part of some kind of affirmative action plan?

Do they have Senator Clinton note that her own brief period in elected office is as irrelevant to the issue of judgment as is Senator Obama's, while she points out that FDR had served only six years as governor and state senator before he became president? Or that Teddy Roosevelt had four and a half years before the White House? Or that Woodrow Wilson had two years and six weeks?

Or Richard Nixon 14? And Calvin Coolidge 25?

Do these advisers have Senator Clinton invoke Samantha Power, gone by sunrise after she used the word monster, and have Senator Clinton say, this is how I police my campaign, and this is what I stand for, while she fires former Congresswoman Ferraro from any role in the campaign? No, somebody tells her that simply disagreeing with, then rejecting the remarks is sufficient. She should then call regrettable words that should make any Democrat retch.

And that she should then try to twist them, first into some pox on both your houses plea to stick to the issues, and then to let her campaign manager try to bend them beyond all recognition into Senator Obama's fault. And thus these advisers give Congresswoman Ferraro nearly a week in which to send Senator Clinton`s campaign back into the vocabulary of David Duke; "anytime anybody does anything that in any way pulls this campaign down and says, let`s address reality and the problems we're facing in this world, you`re accused of being racist, so you have to shut up. Racism works in two different directions. I really think they are attacking me because I'm white. How's that?"

How's that? Apart from sounding exactly like Rush Limbaugh attacking the black football quarterback Donovan McNab, apart from sounding exactly like what Miss Ferraro said about another campaign nearly 20 years ago, quote, "President Reagan suggested Tuesday that people don't ask Jesse Jackson tough questions because of his race. Former Representative Geraldine A. Ferraro said Wednesday that because of his, quote, radical views, if Jesse Jackson were not black, he would not be in the race."

So apart from sounding like insidious racism that is at least two decades old, apart from rendering ridiculous Senator Clinton`s shell game about choosing Obama as vice president, apart from this evenings resignation letter; "I am stepping down from your finance committee so I can speak for myself and you can continue to speak for yourself about what is at stake in this campaign. The Obama campaign is attacking me to hurt you."

Apart from all that, well, it sounds as if those advisers wanted their campaign to be associated with those words, and the cheap, ignorant, vile racism that underlies every syllable of them, and that Geraldine Ferraro has just gone freelance.

Senator Clinton, that is not a campaign strategy. This is a suicide pact. This week alone, your so-called strategists have declared that Senator Obama has not yet crossed some commander in chief threshold, but he might still be your choice to be vice president, even though a quarter of
the previous 16 vice presidents have become commander in chief during the greatest kind of crisis this country can face, a midterm succession, but you only pick him if he crosses that threshold by the time of the convention.

But if he does cross that threshold by the time of the convention, he will only have done so sufficiently enough to become vice president, not president? Senator, if the serpentine logic of your so-called advisers were not bad enough, now thanks to Geraldine Ferraro and your campaigns initial refusal to break with her, and your new relationship with her, now more disturbing still with her claim that she can now speak for herself about her vision as Senator Obama as some kind of embodiment of a quota if she wishes.

If you were to seek Obama as a vice president, it would be to Miss Ferraro some called of social engineering gesture, some kind of racial make good. Do you not see, senator?

To Senator Clinton`s supporters, to her admirers, to her friends for whom she is first choice and to her friends for whom she is second choice, she is still letting herself be perceived as standing next to and standing by racial divisiveness and blindness. Worse yet, after what President Clinton said during the South Carolina primary, comparing the Obama and Jesse Jackson campaigns, a disturbing but only border line remark, after what some in the black community have perceived as a racial undertone to the 3:00 a.m. ad, a disturbing but only borderline interpretation, and after the moments hesitation in her own answer on "60 Minutes" about Obama's religion, a disturbing but only borderline vagueness -- after those precedents, there are those who see a pattern. False or true, they see it. After those precedents, there are those who see an intent. False or true, they see it. After those precedents, there are those that see the Clinton campaign`s anything but benign neglect of the Ferraro catastrophe, falsely or truly, as a desire to hear the kind of casual prejudice which still haunts the society voiced, and to not distance the campaign from it.

To not distance you from it, Senator. To not distance you from that which you, as a woman, and Senator Obama, as an African-American, should both know and feel with the deepest of personal pain, which you should both fight with all you have, which you should both ensure has no place in this contest ever.

This, Senator Clinton, is your campaign and it is your name. Grab the reigns back from whoever has led you to this precipice before it is too late. Voluntarily or inadvertently, you are still awash in this filth. Your only reaction has been to disagree, reject, to call it regrettable. Her only reaction has been to brand herself as the victim and resign from your committee and insist she will continue to speak. Unless, senator, you say something definitive, the former congresswoman is speaking with your
approval.

You must remedy this and you must reject and denounce Geraldine Ferraro. Good night and good luck.

George W Bush (a white man "as far as I know,") got 11 % of the black vote in 2004. John Kerry (also a white man "as far as I know" got 89% of the black vote.
Barack Obama is getting anywhere from 70-90% of the black vote because he is intelligent, articulate,a breath of fresh air, and offers change from the same old politics of division and corporate power.
He is also getting some black support that formerly went to Hillary ( a white woman. "as far as I know," )because husband Bill Clinton made his very offensive remarks in South Carolina.
Mrs Ferraro's attempts to diminish Obama's credentials on the basis of race so that her candidate Hillary will get the nomination is simply self defeating and assinine behavior. She didn't help Mondale with this type of talk and she won't help Clinton with her nonsense.
With friends like her the Democratic Party does not need enemies .
Please Mrs. Ferraro. Fold your tents and give it up. You are talking in a very convoluted and absurd manner. It doesn't become you or your candidate.

I wish the Obama critics would make some effort to learn something about the guy instead of seizing on campaign sound bites.
1. Obama is half black and half WHITE.
2. Hussein is not a dirty word. (Remember King Hussein of Jordan?)
3. There is only one campaign doing the mud-slinging and it's not Obama's.
4. Obama does not denigrate or demean anyone.
5. The Clintons are an embarrassment!

ps. to "Informed" Lifelong Democrat - BACK IT UP!

Ok....this is just stupidity in action. Weiner and wiener are both words. The way you spell it Steve, is how many people spell their last name. If you are referring to someone as a "Weiner" than John E is correct and once again you have demonstrated your ignorance. Spell check doesn't pick up the definition of the word just the spelling hence the name "SPELL check". Go back to elementary school, learn how to reference a dictionary and then come back to the big kids table.

Obama 08

I'm sorry, I forgot my place. I have the nerve to vote for a black man. Never mind he's capable, intelligent, and I agree with his policy, I'm supposed to vote for Hillary to prove I'm not voting for a black man because he's black. After all, they have all these advantages -- that's why we have so many black senators and govenors and high up politicians.

Keith O is soo in love with Obama it is sickening to watch him
He tries so hard to be funny and he isnt
If he is so hell bent on going after Geraldine maybe he should invite her on I have no doubt she would be glad to shut him up
He would rather interview pro Obama people and make his ignorant veiws without having to hear the other side
No wonder Bill OReily cant stand nbc or its anchore
I thought Chris was the one with the crush on BO but Keith has a much worse crush on him
Obama should have had Keith be his Obama girl
Keith is trying to take the attention off the reports on fox about BO
By the way Fox is the only network that dares to report the negative on BO
Olberman is pathetic in his attempt to report the news
Whyy doesnt he just wear a I LOVE OBAMA T-SHIRT?
Like I said he talks alot but doesnt have the people he is bashing on the show

To Betty: Please enlighten us with FACTUALLY BACKED criticism of Obama from Fox News. It's easy to make the claim, but where's the evidence?

Phoebe: Apparently you didn't watch Hannity last night attempting to smear Obama because his minister traveled to Libya- which by the way is a very dangerous place now for members of Al Quaida. None of his guests would buy into his guilt by association even though he tried to do it over and over again. To be fair- Sean Hannity dislikes Hillary even more than he does Barack. He doesn't even like McCain for that matter.
Fox Noise is mostly the views of the right wing billionaire Rupert Murdoch- although Bill O'Really
does try to let both sides have their say. Indeed I wish Obama would go on his show. I think he would get a respectful hearing- and I think he would be able to hold his own with our dear Bill

Olberman is my hero, I love the guy... I wrote MSNBC a letter thanking him for his comments.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFe81UtLbCE

Three cheers for Olbermann...

Hilary and her lynch mob need to stick to the issues!!!!!!!

Poor Geraldine. She says that she wouldn't have had a chance to
be nominated for Vice President if her name had been "Gerald." How sad.
It seems that she is implying that she would have rather been born a black man.
Does this make sense to anyone? Maybe it is time for the old soldier to just "fade away."
She also states that she was amazed at the negative response and that it must have been orchestrated by the Obama campaign. I guess she hasn't heard that nearly 2,000,000 people have joined his grassroots effort.
I have never contributed to any election campaign and was a Reagan Democrat. Now everytime I see this type of idiocy, I go to www.barackobama.com and send another $100 in. At this rate we are going to have the best funded campaign in American history.
Thanks Mrs Ferraro. Keep up your misguided rhetoric.

I guess John McCain was fortunate to spend all those years being tortured because being fifth from the bottom in his Naval Academy class- and being a white man,- would not have gotten him where he is today. What a lucky man.

Trickled ON Math Whiz,

I'm not sure how you can watch his show since it has to do with numbers and counting backwards - that must be very confusing to you.

Hillary should "fire Ferraro." Says she doesn't agree with her isn't enough according to Big Mouth Olbermann. Well, Olbermann-- why shouldn't Obama then resign or quit his church. Why can he keep up associations with his pastor who said such hateful things. DOUBLE STANDARD EH? And while you are at it, why not put some decent female newscasters on your pathetic program.

Don't you love it. Olbermann was choked by his own completely ignorant and biased remarks when a day later Obama was the "racist".

Of course, throughout this entire campaign Obama has ALWAYS been the racist, always played the race card and then cried foul. Coward.

Can you imagine this guy as President? Shudders.

Olberman is so much in the tank for obama it is sick!!!!

With her own words, Geraldine
Ferraro has earned the
irrevelance she richly deserves.

I used to respect her, but every
time she opens her mouth
about Barrack Obama, she
shows her inability to evaluate
him objectively. Does she seriously believe that many
black men are standing in line
waiting to run as president?

Her latest remark about his
being "terribly sexist" shows
that she totally missed the
point. He was being dismissive
of what he called the Washington, D.C. habit of
elevating every triviality to
an importance that it does not deserve.

He has been threatened with bodily harm ever since he started running for the nomination, but yet there is no racism in the campaign?

Geraldine Ferraro embodies all that is unappealing about some feminists--the ultrasensitivity to imagined slights, the inability to see that there are different types of bigotry in addition to sexism, and--most importantly--the failure to realize that one woman (namely Hillary Clinton)
is not representative of women
as a whole.

I am now happy that she never
became a Vice-President.
