"Kristen," the so-called "high-class" call girl who brought down Eliot Spitzer, was outed this morning by the New York papers.
She's Ashley Alexandra Dupre, a 22-year old runaway from New Jersey and aspiring R&B singer, who, in her own words, has battled homelessness and drug addiction. The New York Times apparently tracked her down after she appeared as a witness Wednesday in the federal prosecution of the Emperor's Club.
The NYT linked to Dupre's MySpace page, which we tried to do as well, but at 11:55 a.m, her page went down, with a message that read the user had canceled her membership. At the time, her page had been viewed almost 500,000 times.
Dupre, who the Times is saying is holed up in her apartment hiding from the media (good luck), has posted a status message on her page that says more than all the scandal-heated commentary you've read put together: "What destroys me, strengthens me."
Her last blog entry, from last summer, was in its own way, prescient about her involvement with the governor of New York:
Surround yourself around people that are making moves, and doing what "they want and love" with their lives, positive energy...thats what life is all about...living. Because if you dont, misery loves company, they will only try to bring you down with them...but the question is, are you strong enough, to not let that happen?
Its hard to see if you let it get to that point...
...and then from all those answers you have to decide if that person is worthy of being a part of "your" life....because it is your life, your show...you decide who you want the characters to be...not the other way around. Every person is different, every person has their voice...can you recognize your voice, listen to it, and stick up for it??
Dupre's friends are rallying to her defense, admittedly in their own vernacular:
* "All this pressure is gonna turn you into a diamond. shine on."
* "Compassion is free. A lot of people in this world seem to have none. My thoughts are with you, so are my prayers. Hang in there. We are here for you. Take a minute for yourself. Stay driven."
* "ASHLEY, REMEMBER, "THE ONE'S WHO MATTER WILL UNDERSTAND, THE ONE'S WHO DON'T UNDERSTAND DON'T MATTER" PEACE."
* "Whtas good keep your head up sis you know we got your back all day you how we do and after this blows over we gona make a HOT song like we always do!!!!"
More than one commenter on her page noted that Ashley Dupre was going to be a star as a result of the media onlslaught--at least a 15-minute one. The glare will certainly be brighter before it dims. Stay strong, girl.

How has a runaway, former drug addict, homeless, hooker become the spokesperson for other abused, runaways, drug addicts, homeless and hookers?
Oh! the same way o'bammy thrived: The media

The bidding starts at $100,000 and climbing.

What a bunch of losers. CNN and everyone else is telling us what a hooker's MySpace page lists? Who cares?
This is a proud day for journalism, American values and the mental health of our nation, for sure.

I just can't stop looking at her!!! Good night!!!
Posted by: John Hussein E | March 13, 2008 12:49 PM
Well, one thing is for sure, even bigger $$$$'s will be knocking at her door now. Somebody will offer her a lot of money for a nude photo shoot.

The fact that no one is asking who Clients #1 through #8 are indicates this is a "get Spitzer" drama, rather than a simple whorehouse bust.
He has plenty of enemies. Might be useful to see who and what he was currently investigating.

It's ridiculous to disrespect Barack Obama and say he got this far because of the media. A strong person commands attention, and if the media can't take its eyes off of him, then that simply illuminates his strength. This girl is not horrible, she isn't a five dollar a night hooker, she is an escort that found her way into the spotlight, and now her true character will show from what she does with it.
She is still a person, and let's not judge others to harhly if you don't know where your daughter is right now.

Stop bashing hookers, its one of the oldest professions and probably has saved more lives than any other.
Posted by: Loregazer | March 13, 2008 1:03 PM
For a girl like this, I am not sure I would not have done what Spitzer did. She is worth throwing away a governorship title to me!!!
Posted by: ken | March 13, 2008 1:08 PM
Swamp, great article! And to "Bill"... we're all the same. Everyone of us is part hooker and part angel, and we can learn from each other.
When we are at peace with ourselves, we can see that, don't you think?
Cheers

BS Cassie, the media took down both of his US Senate opponents for him (Jack Ryan and Blair Hull). If the Tribune is so pure that they want to make sure all voters are informed of what's in every candidate's divorce files (as they claimed at the time) then where was the story on Bill Foster's divorce files last week? They read just like Hull's.
I'm not advocating that. I think it has about as much to do with how someone will govern as whether or not they once tried drugs. I'm just saying the media is guilty of a double standard and it's proof that Obama is nothing more than a media creation. Bring it, Obamabots.
p.s. Forget the nude photo shoot, she's sure to get an even more lucrative book deal out of this.

The governor should have just come to RI where prostitution is fine and legal. It is not against the law as long as inside a building and you are not trying to pick up men on the street! This story is outrageous only because many professional and business men do this.
Poor men have to buy
"food", rich men buy "meat". This is a story that will never go away. History has proved this. As long as rich and powerful men are around with extra cash, drugs, etc. there is a demand for the profession. For example a girl on drugs or homeless, even kidnapped (human trafficing is a billion dollar industry for prostitution, check out Interpoll) needs cash and the cycle is continual.

Ashley Alexandra Dupre will come out with her first adult feature film..soon that's properly her next stop adult movies. OH YEAH
Posted by: batman | March 13, 2008 1:23 PM
For cripes sake, leave her alone! The insanity is that this brought down a goody-two shoes governor. So what? Any other civilized country would just brush it off. Get real, folks.

The values of the American society are sickening. No wonder the world hates this country. Why the interest and attention on the life of this woman?
Posted by: Angela | March 13, 2008 1:30 PM
Looks like the FBI would be checking why WE are paying over $200 a night for a political motel room. D.C> has no hookers ---AMAZEING

WOW !!!
spitzer .....clintons .....the hooker......
blows my mind who gave whom ideas to contact hookers

I wonder how much of that $1k per hour fee she got and how much the "pimp" took!
Posted by: ricknhouston | March 13, 2008 1:49 PM
Why don't we worry about the crisis we are having on education instead of searching and looking into a high paid hooker?
Or maybe is that the media and journalism don't have better stories to cover.
Who cares about hookers… don’t people know that prostitution its illegal? Don’t you think she should be prosecuted instead of being praised?

With all the titillation, few seem to be asking the most important question: So What? Not so many years ago, another former attorney general and state governor elevated(?) a white woman to state employment over a more qualified black female candidate, solely because she could "suck a tennis ball thru a garden hose." The same governor was caught on tape suborning perjury, and yet he never apologized, admitted guilt, resigned, or declined to pursue higher office. Anybody want to fill in the blank on this one? Spitzer, by comparison, offers nothing more than his own money for personal services delivered by an experienced professional, and HE is chased from public office. If Barney Franks gets to keep his seat after paying Mr. Gobie for gay sex while Gobie operates a sex-for-sale business from Franks apartment, then what's the big deal with Spitzer? Are straight hookers worse than gay ones? Please!

How long before she appears in "Playboy"? Funny how Vitter showed up in the DC Madam's little black book and didn't resign. Sen. Craig went trolling for a quickie in a men's room and didn't resign, even though he said he would. Just goes to show how all of these politicans either think they're above the law or won't get caught.

To the Obamabots, when Barack's campaign collapses later this year, there will be three words you should always remember: Dukakis, Mondale, McGovern.

what does Obama have to do with this post? wow.... she is smokin in that barely there top!!!

At 5K dollars an hour...there is a good chance his bill might only have come to $300. Thats $100 a minute.

Puritans, jealous puritans, hypocrites and swine. She wasn't stealing, people, get over it.
Why is it OK to rent out certain body parts (like your hands or your brain) but not others?
What a country! We deserve the leaders that we get. And this one is no prize. But the only question that would be asked in a reasonable country is "Was he spending his own money?"

Shame about E-L-I-O-T SPITZER and all being 'caught' with high-priced ‘PROSTITUTEES’ - but why not a 'PEEP' from US SENATOR CHARLES SCHUMER of NY??? Geez you would think CHUCK'the-schmuck' had something to hide??? Just because he gave/offered the numbers/contact info for the 'EMPERORS CLUB' to E-L-I-O-T - why would that cause CHUCK'the-schmuck' to hunker-down??? ‘SPITZ’ rhymes with ‘T^TS’ ain’t the only POLITICAL HACK who likes the T&A’ – is he??? By the way what # was CHUCK'the-schmuck' on the client list??? DID HE DO 'KRISTEN' TOO???

No question about the smokin' hotness Steve. I'm going to go buy her album. Ahh, dumb men are everywhere...
Posted by: Jeff | March 13, 2008 2:54 PM
Its sad to read this girl's story. A run away with drug issues and having to sell her body to live. She must be a wreck on the inside. None of those activities are natural for a woman to pursue. I am heartbroken for her. She is somebody's daughter.
Posted by: Steve Hussein S | March 13, 2008 2:59 PM
I agree, Josh. Selling is legal. Sex is legal. Why isn't selling sex legal. How can it be illegal to sell something you can give away for free? What makes illegal prostitution so dangerous for young women is that it's controlled by pimps, the mafia and other illegal enterprises. By its nature it would never be free from STDs but if it were legal and regulated (as it is in parts of Nevada) then it'd be a lot cleaner, drug free and safe.
Posted by: Jeff | March 13, 2008 3:12 PM
I'm a real Libertarian on pot and prostitution; Legalize both.
Posted by: C.Morris | March 13, 2008 3:30 PM
this is again ridiculous. i have not sympathy for her or him. move on people. why does the media eat this up?
Posted by: bren | March 13, 2008 4:05 PM
Anyone who doesn't think this "tart" is smokin' is either blind or dead. I don't know about $5500 per hour, but she ain't your average "pick-up at the corner bar" type by any means.
This is probably the best thing that could happen to her. She will no doubt parlay this 15 minutes into a more lucrative career (though at $5500 an hour, maybe I shouldn't be so sure..."

Aw, so sad. Poor criminal ... I also have trouble sleeping when the media drags thiefs and assailants into the public spotlight.
Criminals don't deserve this attention. Why can't they break the law in privacy? Society really needs to be more forgiving of who don't follow rules.
Awww, so very sad.

Kristen's song;
(Tom Petty and the Heart Breakers)
I remember when you were his dog
I remember you under his thumb
Yeah baby, when he would call
Every time, you had to come
Hey, baby, you're a free girl now
Hey, baby, you're a free girl now
I remember when he was your boss
I remember him touching your butt
I remember you counting your blessings
Yeah honey, you had to keep your mouth shut
Hey baby, you're a free girl now
Yeah baby, you're a free girl now
Yeah, well all right
Honey, put your sugar down
Dazzle, dazzle the moon above
Lay your victim down
No longer will you be a slave
No longer will you have to crawl
No longer will you suffer
No longer will you stall
One day you'll live for a reason
One day you'll be gone, no more
When you walk from the table
No longer, will you bow down
Hey baby, you're a free girl now
Hey baby, you're a free girl now

MAth Whiz - I think we agree on something.
For a liberal governor, that might have been the best spent $4300.
Nonetheless, the law is the law and by the way this whole investigation did not start out as a prostitution sting - follow the money.

Could someone please explain why prostitution isn't legal, regulated and safe? let the sex workers unionize, end the exploitation. Spitzer is guilty of hypocrisy. The rest is between him and his wife. Why is Vitter still in the Senate? He bought local and didn't buy expensive imports.

You have to understand how men 'think', if you want to call it that.
It's all a weird little fantasy world. She could be a queen, a slattern, anything. It's all buried in the sick sick id of the modern male psyche.

The profession is as old as mankind
It obviously serves a human need
Who has more deceit - the worker or the politician
At least the women is upfront with her costs and services
Count civil servants and politicians as the ones of lowest honour , integrity and honesty and are among the greatest self serving

It all seems worth it - all the luxury and fun
Yet Mrs. Sprizer did not look to thrilled. Wonder what would of happened if she had come across the cancelled checks or worse yet finance or bank charges.
Wonder if Mr. Spritzer bought her any fancy toys or Canadian furs ?
